Hein, Patricia Ann
Patricia Ann Hein, age 52, of 1769 Gilmore Ave., Winona, died on Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Community Memorial Hospital.
Patricia was born on April 17, 1949, in Winona, to Blake and Anita Lawrence Hein. She graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1970.
She is a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church and its LWML; helped with Sunday School; a member of its Singles Club; and worked in the St. Martin's school library. She also was employed at the Winona ORC.
She attended Caraway Cottage and presently attended Benedictine Heights at Callista Court.
She is survived by her parents, Blake and Anita; sister, Jeanne (Ron) Sepiol, Victoria, MN; nephew, Andrew Sepiol; aunts; uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Saint Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. William Flesch officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Dover, MN.
Casketbearers will be Steve Lawrenz, Keith Lawrenz, Dick Baker, Dick Siguere, Steve Fix, and Steve Holmay.
Visitation will be held at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church after noon on Thursday.
Memorials may be directed to Shriner's Hospital.
Popp, Ricky Lee
Ricky Lee Popp, 25, of 1465 East Burns Valley Road Winona, Minn., died as a result of a motorcycle accident.
He was born October 23, 1975 in Winona, Minn. to Ricky Lee and Mary Popp.
He was employed at Benchmark Electronics. He graduated from WSHS where he participated in varsity football and wrestling. Immediately upon graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for five years and one month, traveled the world, and was honorably discharged as Sergeant.
Ricky graduated with honors and was number one in his Marine Air Traffic Control School and Avionics Technician Course in Tennessee. He attended NCO leadership school, SGT Non-Resident program and graduated from Minnesota Southeast Technical with an Associate in Applied Science Degree with 4.0 all the way through.
While serving in the military, he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Letter of Appreciation (3rd award), Meritorious Mast (3rd award), Certificate Commendation (3rd award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2nd award), Navy Achievement Medal, and Expert Rifle Qualification.
Ricky was a member of the Eagle Scouts and of St. T's where he was involved with Travis Gora in a weight lifting program. He enjoyed his hobby of collecting baseball cards. He loved the outdoors and playing sports.
Ricky lived his life to the fullest. He will be truly missed by his family ad friends.
Survivors include his parents Ricky Lee and Mary Popp; brothers and sisters Christina (Jason) Brommerich, Matthew (Morgan Hruby) Popp, Christopher and Andrew Popp; Maternal Grandparents, Glen and Mary Cochenour, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.
He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Duane and Eleanor Darrow and Clifford Popp.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, June 28, 2001 at 12:00 (Noon) at St. John Nepomucene Church with preliminary services at 11:30 a.m. at the Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Reverend Daniel R. Dernek will officiate.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 P.M. and from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a prayer service at 8:45 p.m.
The American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9 will conduct military rites at the cemetery.
Pallbearers are Travis Gora, Lance Thill, Ricky Semling, Jeremy Corey, Shawn Andring, Charlie Harem, Pete Lehnartz, and Andrew Popp.
Ricky touched our lives through his special little teasing, his soft heart, and his ability to stay a step ahead of his challenges. At night when you look up into the sky and find the brightest star, that'll be Ricky shining.

Stumpf, Grace Louise
A memorial service for Grace L. Stumpf was held 11:00 a.m. June 25 at the Hoff Funeral Home in Winona. Internment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Stumpf, 87, died June 19 at Community Memorial Hospital.
Stumpf was born Aug. 4, 1913, in Blair, Wis., to Henry and Anne (Wolf) Stumpf. She received her bachelor of science degree from Milwaukee Downer College (Lawrence University), master of science from the University of Wisconsin Madison and did additional graduate work at the University of Michigan. She served as head dietitian of the 36th General Army Hospital in northern Africa during WWII; chief of dietetic services at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich.; director of dietetics at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; assistant professor at Ohio State University and director of dietetics at the University of Michigan hospitals.
She was a Management by Objectives consultant to the American Dietetic Association in Chicago; a lecturer in nutrition at the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan and the civilian consultant in nutrition to the surgeon general of the U.S. Air Force.
She received the Medallion Award from the American Dietetic Association, appeared in Who's Who in American Women, and was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Omicron Nu. She authored numerous publications in the fields of labor relations and public health.
During her retirement years in Winona, she served as a member of the United Way Board, lectured for the dietetics staff at Community Memorial Hospital, served as chair of the Selection Committee for the first county coordinator in Winona County. She was an avid reader, and thoroughly enjoyed spectator sports at high school, college and the professional level.
Stumpf was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Alice Stumpf and Lucile Youmans. She is survived by a nephew, Jay Youmans of Rochester, and a niece, Ruth Youmans of Seattle, Wash.

Hauser, Anna Marie
Anna Marie Hauser, 58, of 603 W. Fourth St., Winona, died Sunday, June, 24, at Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Winona on Jan. 26, 1943, to Ole and Myrtle (Peterson) Midtovne and married Daniel P. Hauser at Faith Lutheran Church in Winona on June 22, 1963.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. She worked as the head cook at the Winona Middle School until 1986, when she moved to the Winona Senior High School and was head cook there until 1989. For the past eight years she has been the head cook at St. Matthew's Lutheran School in Winona.
Anna is survived by her husband; daughters Cindy (Wendell) Steinfelt, Winona; Jenatte (George) Brown, Eau Claire, Wis.; Tina (Larry) Jacob, Winona; five grandsons Eric and Aaron Steinfeldt, George and Sam Brown and Tyler Quinn; brothers-in-law Roger (Barbara) Munson, Minnesota City, and Willie Midtovne, Porter, Minn.; sisters Laura Engel, Lorraine Gilbertson, Muriel (Ernest) Block, Lois Erickson, Dorothy (Richard) Christie and Joan (Curtis) Schlueter. Anna also had a very special friend, her dog, Shadow.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and four brothers-in-law.
Funeral services for Anna will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, at Faith Lutheran Church. Rev. Mark Dumke will officiate. Friends may call at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. A prayer service will be held there at 8:00 p.m. Friends may also call at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Casketbearers are Brian Trainor, Gene Rackow, Jack Wessin, and sons-in-law Wendell Steinfelt, George Brown and Larry Jacob. Honorary bearers are her great grandsons.

Tews, Verda M.
Verda M. Tews, 70, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at her daughter's home in Zumbro Falls, Minn.
Verda Tews was born June 1, 1931 in Waseoja, Minn. to William and Alice Mae (Stumbaugh) Lewis. On September 19, 1959 she married Robert Tews. He died January 13, 2000.
Verda had worked for Camera Art in Lewiston and most recently had worked for the Lewiston Public School serving lunches to the students. Verda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church at Silo and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Lewiston.
Verda will be remembered for her love of doing embroidery work and fishing.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine (John) Landrum of Zumbro Falls, Minn.; two grandchildren, Barbara (Steve) Hallet and Timothy (Desi) Landrum; seven great-grandchildren; and five brothers, Richard (Charlotte) Lewis of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Bill (Corky) Lewis of Rochester, Minn., Larry Lewis of Minneapolis, Minn., Earl Lewis of West Minster, Cal., and Jim (Lucile) Lewis of Fridley, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and Charles, and two sisters, Harriet and Phyllis.
Funeral services were Tuesday, July 3 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silo with Rev. William Meilner officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Mayo Hospice.

Schultz, George E.
George E. Schultz, 76, of 1110 Gilmore Valley Road, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at his home.
He was born June 26, 1925 in Dodge Township, Pine Creek, Wis. to Michael and Teckla (Pehler) Schultz. He married Ann Wachowiak on May 7, 1955 in Winona.
George served in the U.S. Army, Aircraft Artillery Division as as mechanic from 1951-1953.
He was a member of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post #9.
He worked at Badger Foundry Co., Bay State Milling Co. and later retired from the Winona Housing and Redevelopment Authority in 1989, after 18 years of service.
George enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, and had a great love and respect for animals and all living things. He loved God and his family. He will be remembered for his quiet inner strength, wonderful sense of humor and unselfishly giving of his love, time and many God given talents.
George is survived by his wife, Ann; five children, Georganne (Scott) Kaehler, William, Jeanne (Philip) Handke, Mary, and Elizabeth (Wayne) Kulas; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Trisha and Seth Kaehler, Leah, Kyle and Michaela Handke and Samantha and Dominic Kulas; one sister, Helen Thoma of Whitehall; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Felix and Edward, and sisters, Eleanor Johnson, Gertrude Meilinger and Irene Garrett.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 4 from 4-8 p.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass at the Church Commons. There will be a Christian Wake Service Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, July 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph L. Keefe officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery where the American Legion will provide military honors.
Pallbearers will be William Schultz, Scott Kaehler, Philip Handke, Wayne Kulas, John Thoma and Robert Kleinschmidt.
Honorary pallbearers will be George's "little angels, " his grandchildren.
