Moe, Hayden Mathias
Hayden Mathias Moe, infant son of Richard Allen II and Amy Jo (Pfaff) Moe, died shortly after his birth on Thursday, March 8, 2001 at Mayo Medical Center Rochester Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Private family services were held Tuesday, March 13, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sparta, Wis., with Rev. James Leary OFM Cap officiating.
Thompson, Dr. Emerit O. "Tom" Sr.
Dr. Emerit O. "Tom" Thompson, Sr., 76, of Rochester, Minn., died Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Season's Hospice in Rochester. He had been ill since October of last year.
Tom was born January 17, 1925, in Stevens County, Minn., to Ernest C. Thompson and Alma M. Harstad.
He graduated from Morris (Minn.) High School. After high school, he enlisted and served in the Air Force during World War II from 1943-1945. Her attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry and graduated in 1949. Tom married Dorothy L. Kammer on November 5, 1949, in Hammond, Ind.
He practiced optometry in Morris, Benson, Anoka and then moved to Winona in 1956. In Winona, Dr. Thompson practiced optometry at King Optical and later at Plymouth Optical. While in Winona, he founded Tom's Lock Service in 1969. In 1986, Dr. Thompson moved to Mankato, where he worked with Sears Optical until 1993, when he moved to Rochester.
Tom is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Thompson; children, Lynn (Jim) Lawlor of Lewisville, Tex., Christine (Larry) Speltz of Dayton, Ohio, Steven (Janet) Thompson of Robbinsdale, Minn., Cindy Thompson of Winona, Emerit Jr. (Julie) Thompson of Winona, Eric (Jane) Thompson of Winona, and Amy (Scott) Moszer of Stewartville, Minn.; and fifteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Susan.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 13 at Martin-Myhre Funeral Home in Winona with Rev. Tom Schoen officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Military rites were provided by Leon J. Wetzel American Legion Post No. 9 at the cemetery.
The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Todd, Robert F. "Bob"
Robert F. "Bob" Todd, 80, of Houston, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, WI.
He was born on October 23, 1920, in Money Creek, Minnesota to Frank and Vera (Harris) Todd. Bob was raised in Money Creek and Graduated from Houston High School. He married Louella Schiebstad on February 23, 1941, in Decorah, Iowa.
Bob worked as a D.H.I.A. supervisor for 23 years, testing milk for farmers. He retired from the Houston Fire Department after 25 years of service. He was also a volunteer at the Houston County Recycling Center.
Bob's pleasures in life came from his family, his work, socializing with his farming friends, gardening, grilling, cars, and drives through the country.
Bob is survived by his wife, Louella; five sons: Jim (Jan) Todd, Richard (Doris) Todd, Dennis (Karen) Todd, Dan (Kathy) Todd, all of Houston, and Mike Todd of New Hampton, Iowa; four daughters: Janice (Dale) Nelson of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Pat Palmquist of Rochester, Minn., Alta (Stan) Mueller of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Linda Hansen of Waverly, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 13, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Bob's body will be cremated with burial of his cremated body in Money Creek Cemetery at a later date.

Ronnenberg, Valery T. "Buster"
Valery T. "Buster" Ronnenberg, 77, Winona, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at the Watkins Home.
He was born February 1, 1924 in Rushford, Minn., to Fred and Elizabeth (Lekivetz) Ronnenberg.
He farmed in the Fountain City area prior to moving to Winona. He managed the Motor Inn and AAA Service in Winona.
He was a loving father and grandfather to: three sons, Andy of Winona, Alex of Galesville, Wis., and Mark Ronnenberg of California; five daughters, Angela Knoblock of St. Cloud, Minn., Valerie (Dale) Mauss of New Albin, Iowa, Patty (Doug) Schulte of Hazel Run, Minn., Irene (Tom) Sonsalla of Stoughton, Wis., and Christine (Joseph) Gorghuber, St. Cloud, Minn.; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Leeland Ronnenberg of Greeley, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Niles Ronnenberg, five brothers and three sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 0:30 a.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Church with preliminary services at 10:00 a.m. at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. Rev. John M. Sauer will officiate. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rushford, Minn. in the spring.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home with a Christian Wake Service at 8:30 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Randy Northrup, Dale Mauss, Joseph Gorghuber, Tom Sonsalla, Rick Volkman and Jamie Volkman.

Fakler, Mary R. (Bronk)
Mary R. Fakler (Bronk) passed away February 21, 2001 in Hopkins, Minn.
Mary was born in 1909 to Julius and Stella Bronk in Winona and moved to the Minneapolis area in 1974.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Fakler, her parents, and five siblings.
She is survived by her brother, Erv (Emily) Bronk of Sun City West, Ariz.; daughters, Marilyn (Ed) Klis of Edina, Minn. and Deb (John) Woodworth of Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Katie (David) Wick, Steve (Stacey) Klis, Dan Klis, Sara Klis, Mike Woodworth, and Anne Woodworth; and two great-grandchildren, Ted and Emma Wick.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, March 17, at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Koenig, Jerome F.
Jerome F. Koening, 64, of Rt. 2 Winona died March 8th at his home.
Jerome was born January 16, 1937 in Whitewater Township of Winona County to Clement and Thelma (Peabody) Koening. He served in the Army from August of 1955 to August of 1958. He and Ruth Licht were married in 1958, they later divorced. In 1985 he married Paulette Ball Bigelow. She died in 1998. Jerome lived in Kansas and California, in 1977 he returned to the St. Charles area. He lived in Elba until Paula's death in 1998 and has lived at Bass Camp since.
Jerome was a welder and a diesel mechanic specializing in heavy equipment.
Survivors include a daughter Michele (Robert) Nichols of Chatfield, a son Jeffrey of Illinois, three grandchildren, four step- children; Paul, Kim, Julie and Joey Bigelow, two brothers, Lloyd (Roberta) Koening of St. Charles, and Ray (Sadie) Koening of Bethany, and a sister Genevieve (Howard) Beyers of Winona. In addition to his wife Paulette his parents and a sister Loretta preceded him in death.
There will be a Memorial Service 1:30 PM Thursday at Hoff Funeral Home's St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Forbes of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Cremation will occur with burial in Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview in the spring. Friends may call from noon until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Haugen, Valbourg
Valborg Haugen, 94, of Rushford, died Monday, March 12th at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. She was born May 30, 1906, in Rushford to August and Hilda (Amundson) Hanson. After her mother's death, she and her twin brother were sent to an orphanage in Beloit, Iowa where she was also confirmed. She graduated from Canton Lutheran Normal School in Canton, South Dakota. At the age of 17 she returned to Rushford. She married Walter Haugen on July 13, 1924. They lived in the Rushford area most of their married life. Walter passed away in July of 1977. Valborg worked as head cook at Grassby Home Café, Niggle's Café and Johnny's Café until her retirement. She loved to do embroidering and work in her flower and vegetable gardens. The last six years she had lived at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Apartments with her pet cat, Andy. Valborg is survived by two sons, Wallace (Valaira) Haugen of Golden, Colorado and Roger (Esther) Haugen of Burlington, North Dakota and one daughter, Margie (Arlyn) Brevig of Rushford, a daugher-in-law, Ann Haugen of Rushford, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Haugen, a grandson, Wayne Haugen, a daughter-in-law, Donna, four sisters and four brothers. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Rushford Lutheran Church in Rushford with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2001, at Hoff Funeral Homes Cook Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
Hill, Eva K.
Eva K. Hill, 88, of Houston died, Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Valley View Nursing Home in Houston. She was born on March 10, 1912, in Houston to Anton and Emma (Peterson) Forsyth. She married Elmer Hill on July 15, 1932. Eva and Elmer farmed in the Rushford and Houston area until the time of Elmer's death in 1973. Eva then moved to Houston. She loved gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking, and harvesting and processing walnuts. She is survived by two sons: Carroll (Corrine) Hill of Winona, Minn. Raymond Hill of Frenchtown, Mont.; two daughters Helen (Pete) Keller of Nerstrand, Minn., and Carrie (Richard) VanCitters of Minnetonka, Minn.; five grandchildren: John, Catherine, David, Daniel, and Angela; three great-grandchildren: Blake, Lindsey, and Ireland; one brother: Allen (Patty) Forsyth; two sisters-in-law: Helen Forsyth of Minneapolis, Minn., and Bernice Forsyth of Houston. She was preceded in death by her Husband, two daughters, LaVonne and Evelyn, three brothers: Harley, Carl, and Herman. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2001, at the Houston Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Drier officiating. Burial will be at the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral Homes Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
Jonsgaard, Harry A.
Harry A. Jonsgaard, 92, of Rushford, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.
He was born on April 12, 1908, in Fremont Township of Winona County to Andrew and Margaret Jonsgaard. He married Agnes Bailey on November 24, 1928. Agnes died December 1, 1994.
Harry was a farmer for several years, following that he worked for U.S. Steel in Winona for many years, retiring in 1974.
Harry was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Winona. He enjoyed fencing on the farm and fishing. When Harry lost his mother at a young age he took on a large part of the child raising responsibilities for his younger siblings.
He is survived by eight sons: Harris (Bernice) Jonsgaard, Marvin (Yvonne) Jonsgaard, Allen (Jean) Jonsgaard, Wilbert (Patty) Jonsgaard, all of Lewiston, Minn., Harold (Anna) Jonsgaard, Curtis Jonsgaard, Arvid (Patricia) Jonsgaard all of Winona, Minn., and Eldon D. (Carolyn) Jonsgaard of Rushford; more than 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers Roy (Elnora) Jonsgaard of Utica, Minn., and Joe Jonsgaard of Stockton, Minn.; two sisters: Seldie Bartelson and Teresa Meyer, both of Rushford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two daughters, and several brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at Rushford Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Arendahl Lutheran Cemetery in rural Peterson, Minn. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Church.

Frisch, Rev. Joseph
Rev. Joseph C. Frisch, age 80, a priest of the Diocese of Winona, died on Saturday, March 10, 2001.
Joseph Frisch was born November 10, 1920 in Winona, the son of George J. and Elizabeth Cieminski. He studied at St. Mary's College in Winona from 1938-1940. He studied philosophy also at St. Mary's College from 1940 to 1942. He completed his theology studies at St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. in December 1945 through a war accelerated program and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Winona on December 22, 1945 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona by Most Rev. Leo Binz. D.D., Bishop of Winona.
Father Frisch continued graduate studies at Laval University in Quebec, Canada, receiving a Doctorate Degree in Philosophy in May of 1967. He received a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Institut Catholique de Paris on December 9, 1970. He continue graduate studies at the University of Minnesota in 1973, at the University of Wisconsin, LaCrosse.
Father Frisch served at Sacred Heart Parish in Waseca, St. Jarloth's, Iosco, St. Augustine, Austin, and St. Leo's, Pipestone. He became pastor of St. Nicholas in Freeburg in 1951. He also served as pastor of parishes in Lanesboro, Eyota, Brownsville, Millville, Hammond, Minnesota City, Altura, Minneiska, Dakota and LaMoille. Father Frisch also served as Chaplain of St. Mary's Hospital in 1961, and administrator at Caledonia and Kellogg. He was, at the time of his death, Parochial Administrator of Holy Cross in Dakota, Minn.
Father Frisch is survived by two brothers, John of Milwaukee, Wis. and George of Caledonia, Minn.; a sister, Elizabeth of Bloomington, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Parish in Dakota, Minn. from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 16, with evening prayer from the Office of the Dead at 8 p.m. There will be visitation at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona starting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 17. Bishop Bernard J. Harrington will be the main celebrant at the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona.
