Morcomb, Stella Mae
Stella Mae Morcomb, 95, of Lake Winona Manor and formerly of 460 West Fifth St., Winona, died Thursday, June 20th at Lake Winona Manor. She was born in Clintonville, WI. on May 6, 1907 to Ernest and Gertrude (Fletcher) Marshall.
Stella married Lyle G. Morcomb on May 17, 1927 in Rochester, MN., he preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1977.
She was a housewife, and member of Central United Methodist Church and its Ladies Aid, member of Winona Chapter #141, Order of Eastern Star.
Stella is survived by her son, Ross R. (Vera) Morcomb of Reistertown, MD.; four grandchildren Cathy Morcomb-Steinfeldt, David, John and Robert Morcomb and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant daughter, a sister, Arlene and a brother, Merle.
Funeral services for Stella were Monday, June 24th at 11:00A.M. at the Fawcett- Junker Funeral Home, Rev. Mary Hurmence of Central United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona. Casket bearers were Larry Oevering, Duane Ringler, Les Nelson and Jerry Miller. Memorial gifts may be directed to Lake Winona Manor.
Tullius, Galen William "Bud"
Galen William "Bud" Tullius, 70, of rural Fountain City, WI., died Thursday, June 20, 2002 at his home with his loving wife and family at his side.
Galen was born on April 21, 1932 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin to Lewis and Emma (Sutter) Tullius. On July 15, 1952 he married Joan M. Glodowski at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Winona.
He was a lifetime farmer of rural Fountain City and was also employed at Lake Center Industries Model Shop in Winona for 38 years. He retired in 1996.
During his retirement Galen enjoyed restoring antique tractors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife; four sons-Roger (Gloria) Tullius, Ronald (Wanda) Tullius, Robert (Theresa) Tullius, all of Fountain City and Ryan (Judy) Tullius of Duluth, MN.; two daughters - Roxane (John) Becker of Fountain City, WI. and Rachael (Charles) Gilkes of Holmen, WI. Twenty-one grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Two sisters - Louaine Tacke of Fond du Lac, WI. and Ardelle Cierzan of Winona. A brother-in- law - Rodney (Ann) Ressie, Rice Lake, WI. and a Sister-In-Law, Arlene Tullius of Winona, MN. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-Rebeca, two brothers-Orville and Loyal Tullius, three sisters-Arbutus Kutchara, Dorothy Glaunert and LaVonne Ressie and a grandson-Barry (BJ) Tullius.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00A.M. on Monday, June 24th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fountain City, WI., Rev. John Parr officiating.
Interment was at Fountain City Public Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Galen's sons; Roger, Ronald, Robert and Ryan Tullius and Son-In- Laws, John Becker and Charles Gilkes.
Honorary bearers were James and Dennis Tacke, Richard and Mick Glaunert, Loyal and Glenn Tullius, Scott and Kevin Ressie and John Cierzan.

Jilk, Shirley
Shirley (Holmgren) Jilk, 72, of Artesia, California died Monday, June 24 at Lakewood Regional Hospital in Lakewood, California. Shirley was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 5, 1929.
She married Sylvester Jilk, and they had 13 children; 11 of which are surviving.
Rosary will be Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a mass of Christian burial Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Artesia, California. A regular 11:00 Sunday mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church will be held in her memory in Winona this Sunday.
All Souls Cemetery and Mausoleum at 4400 Cherry Avenue, Long Beach, California, 90807 is coordinating the funeral arrangements.
Tomashek, Grace W.
Grace W. Tomashek died early Monday morning, June 24, 2002 at Community Memorial Hospital, Winona.
She was born March 3, 1903, in Winona, MN to Albert and Jane (Gordon) Schwietzer. Grace married William M. Tomashek on September 8, 1926. William died December 17, 1970.
Grace is survived by: William (Martha) Tomashek, Ruth (Richard) Hartert, Howard (Patricia) Tomashek; 13 grandchildren: Michael (Cindy) Tomashek, Edward (Sandy) Tomashek, Vicki (John) Riester, Carol (Jeff) Noll, Lori (Phil) Glomski, Lisa Loechler, Charles Tomashek, Mark (Nancy) Tomashek, Ann Johnston, Paul (Kelly) Tomashek, Kay (Scott) Poe, Sue (Pierre) Hilo, Steve Tomashek; 24 great grandchildren: Sarah, Joshua, and Andrew Tomashek; Ryan, Kevin and Katie Riester; Michael and Patrick Noll; Kelly, Amy and Joseph Glomski; Craig, Lindsay, and Cory Loechler; Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Joseph Tomashek; Grace Johnston; Joshua, Jenna, and Jade Tomashek; Ian Poe; Jacque and Sara Grace Hilo; sister Eva Srnec of St. Anne, Winona.
William and Grace were early members of St. Mary's Parish in Winona, at the time there were only 40 families in the Parish. Grace was a member of Circle A at St. Mary's and was very active in other church functions such as: Distribution of CCD Pamphlets to parents of new borns and pre-school children, The Rosary Society and Quilters. Grace was also an active member of the Cotter Mothers Club. She was also a member of a neighborhood 500 club for 50 years. In 1966, William and Grace moved to Minneiska, MN and joined St. Mary's Church there. In 1976, after William's death, Grace moved back to Winona and joined the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Parish. She moved to Callista Court, in assisted living, in October 1998-2001, and to St. Anne Hospice in July 2001. Grace celebrated her 99th birthday, on March 3, 2002 at St. Anne with her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Monday, July 1, 2002 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, Winona, with Rev. Shawn T. Haremza, officiating. Preliminary services will be at 10:00 AM at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Michael, Edward, Charles, Mark, Paul and Steve Tomashek.
Granddaughters will be honorary casket bearers: Vicki Riester, Carol Noll, Lori Glomski, Lisa Loechler, Ann Johnston, Kay Poe and Sue Hilo.
Memorials may be given to the donor's choice or Saint Anne Extended Healthcare, Winona.
Lauer, Mary E.
Mary Eveline Neverman Lauer went Home to be with the Lord Jesus in the early morning hours of June 20, 2002. Mary was born on January 9, 1914 in Neillsville, Wisconsin to Julius ("Jules") Louis Rudolph and Carrie Amelia Beardsley Neverman, residing at 29 Hewitt Street. She was the only living child of the Nevermans.
Mary graduated Neillsville High School in 1931, then spent a year at Winona Business College and promptly joined the secretarial staff of the J.R. Watkins Company in Winona, Minnesota. In 1936 and 1937 there were jobs with the WPA and the Soil Conservation Service, where she met Wilfred Lauer, Jr., her future husband (from Minneapolis, Minnesota). In mid-1937 Mary began working for the Winona Water Department and stayed until August 1938. On September 10, 1938 Mary and Bill celebrated their marriage in a ceremony at the Neverman home in Neillsville.
Bill and Mary continued to reside in Winona for the next 40 years and were instrumental in establishing the community of Goodview to the north. They were members of the Central Methodist Church in Winona. Mary continued to work for the community of Winona through the church and the Winona Girl Scouts, helping to establish the Girl Scout Camp, Wi-Gi-Sco-Ca at the Trempealeau Wildlife Refuge. Bill and Mary established W.H. Lauer Forest Products Inc. in 1947 with Mary running the business at home until 1972. Mary was one of the first women in Real Estate in Winona from 1959 to 1969, then worked for the Lake Center Switch Company in Winona from 1969 to 1979.
In June of 1979 they both retired and moved to 335 Lake Drive, Merrillan, Wisconsin, just 19 miles from Neillsville. Mary died peacefully at their home in Merrillan after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant child, Karen May Lauer.
Bill and Mary were blessed with four children-Cassandra Lauer of Avondale, Arizona; Heidi Lauer of Merrillan, Wisconsin; Germaine Sarna of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Ted (Carol) Lauer of Tomah, Wisconsin, who all survive her; also 11 grandchildren-Kevin (Arizona) Sarna, Torrance California; Scott Bremer, Lake City, Colorado; Tiffany (Jace) Kelley, Avondale, Arizona; Sarah (Troy) Eastman, Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jennifer (Rayburn) Gilner, Overland Park, Kansas; Brian (Andrea) Lauer, Eagan, Minnesota; Beth (Arlo) Swinton, New Hartford, Iowa; Wendy Lauer, Bloomington, Illinois; Carolyn Bremer, Kingfield, Maine; Eric (April) Lauer USAF, Layton, Utah; Adam Lauer, Tomah, Wisconsin.
There are 10 great-grandchildren: Stephanie Victoria Swinton, Kaitlin Coryn Gonzagowski, Amelia Grace Eastman, Cody Austin Swinton, Mason Jordan Gonzagowski, Jaren Orion Kelley, Jakob Wolf Kelley, Mystic Green, Jaycen Eric Lauer, Autumn Carol Lauer.
Mary was dearly loved and cherished by her husband Wilfred (Bill) Lauer-known locally as "The Man in the Hat, " writer of stories of "days gone by."
She was loved and appreciated by her children and their families for her elegance, intelligence and sense of humor and we all enjoyed her interests and hobbies-gardening, crocheting, sewing, upholstery, home decorating, shopping, crossword puzzles, memorabilia and stamp-collecting, bird-watching, wildlife identity, and playing solitaire.
Matthew 28:20 "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: AND, LO, I AM WITH YOU ALWAY, EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD. AMEN."
A memorial service for Mary was held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. Pastor James Mohr officiated.
Lowenhagen, Lorraine
Lorraine A. Lowenhagen, age 83, of Winona, died on Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Lake Winona Manor, Winona.
Lorraine was born on April 12, 1919 in Minneiska, MN, to August and Mabel (Lindquist) Nelson.
On June 30, 1945, she married Hilmar C. Lowenhagen at Lake City, MN. He died on November 12, 1993. She formerly was employed at Sauer Memorial Home and St. Mary's University both of Winona. She lived in the Winona area her entire life and she was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona.
She is survived by her daughter Sharon (Robert) Mueller of Goodview; a grandson John Mueller of Goodview; a granddaughter Amy Mueller stationed in Germany; two brothers Ronald Nelson of Wabasha and Raymond (Bonny) Nelson of Utica, MN; a brother-in-law Eugene Stroot of Wabasha and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Sydney, and sister Francis.
Funeral services were Monday, April 22, 2002 at 11:00 AM, at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Winona, MN with Rev. Oliver H. Lindholm and Rev. James D. Nelson, officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Minneiska, MN.
A memorial is being arranged.
Funeral arrangements are being completed by the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona.
Kuhlmann, Esther H.
Esther H. Kuhlmann, 82, of Rochester, Minn., died of cancer Friday, April 19, 2002 at her home.
Esther Harriet Fleischfresser was born July 14, 1919 in Winona. She married Darwin Kuhlmann on September 1, 1941. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1980.
Esther was born and raised in Winona. She worked for Wincraft Manufacturing for many years. Esther's husband was a barber.
She was a Pocahantas in the Redmen Club of Winona.
Survivors include two children, Sharon (Frank) Ellenz of Winona and Debra (Dean) McConochie of Rochester, Minn.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, LuAnn Wenzel of Lewiston, Minn., and Bernice (Bob) Danzeisen of Rosemount, Minn.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin, and one son.
A memorial service was held Monday, April 22 at Northgate Plaza in Rochester. A Memorial Mass was held Tuesday, April 23 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Winona. Esther's body was cremated and was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona.
The Macken Funeral Home of Rochester was in charge of arrangements.
O'Bieglo, Dale
Dale O'Bieglo, 41, of Mabel, Minn., died Thursday, April 18, 2002 at Fairview University Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services were Tuesday, April 23, at the Mabel First Lutheran Church with Revs. Allen Hermeier and Gene Hermeier officiating. Burial was in the Mabel Lutheran Cemetery.
Smith, Russell G.
Russell G. Smith, 73, of Minnesota City, Minn., died Friday, April 19, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services were Monday, April 22, at Watkowski-Pronschinske Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Olson of Central Lutheran Church officiating. Burial was in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.
