Mary Lou Paavola

Mary Lou Paavola, age 82 of Annandale died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Buffalo Hospital
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale. Rev. Thomas Queck will officiate and burial will be in Corinna Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to the service, Wednesday at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mary Lou Paavola was born April 15, 1928 in New Your Mills, Ottertail County to John and Emily Kumpula. She married Alvin Paavola on May 10, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills. Together, they lived in Minneapolis for 42 years, before moving to Annandale in 1989. Mary Lou worked at Emerich Baking Company in Minneapolis for 25 years, retiring in 1989. She volunteered at the Annandale Senior Dining, delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Senior Council for 2 years. Mary Lou was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the LWML, the Altar Committee, the Fellowship Council and Busy Needles. Mary Lou enjoyed baking, fishing and loved to work with seniors and spend time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin of Annandale; children & their spouses, Richard & Carole of Minneapolis, Linda & Kevin Dorsey of Buffalo and Robert & Colleen of Little Canada; six grandchildren, Joseph, Lisa, Kristi, Gary, Matthew and Reed; four great grandchildren, James, Wyatt, Jackson and Aubrey; sister and brother & their spouses, Shirley & Clarence Paulson of Golden Valley and Charles & Sue Kumpula of Brainerd; sister in law, Arlis Kumpula of New York Mills. She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jeanette Saari, Wilma Perna and Agnes Thelen; and brothers, Martin Kumpula and Alvin Kumpula.
Pallbearers will be Joseph, Matthew and Reed Paavola, Gary Marsyla, James and Jeff Thompson and Kevin Dorsey. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wyatt Marsyla and Jackson Paavola.

Esther Henrietta Brunko

Esther H. Brunko, age 93, of Watkins died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Hilltop Care Center where she has been a resident the past year.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. with Memorial Services held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball. The Rev. Timothy Nerud will officiate.
Esther Henrietta Brunko was born November 4, 1913 at Fairbank, Iowa to Henry and Mary ( Huebner) Brunko. She worked on the family farm near Fair Haven and was a homemaker. She lived the past eight years in Watkins, previously living in Kimball. Esther enjoyed warming the hearts of everyone she gave a smile, quilt making, completing crossword puzzles, card playing, and traveling especially to the casino.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her siblings, Carl, Adolph, Frederic, Walter, Rosa & Irene Brunko, Clara Dahnke, Dorothy Yerks, Marie Schauer, Martha Schiffman, and Vera Pherigo.

Ruby Olga Victoria Strand

Ruby O. Hasselberg Strand, age 90, of Buffalo and formerly of rural South Haven died Monday, October 16, 2006 at Lake Ridge Care Center, Buffalo. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Union Evangelical Covenant Church, south of South Haven with Rev. Lloyd Melvie officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Lake Union Covenant Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Lake Union Evangelical Covenant Church. Ruby was born on September 22, 1916 in French Lake Township to John and Hulda (Anderson) Hasselberg. She married Robert H. Strand on May 16, 1937 in rural South Haven and he preceded her in death on August 1, 1977. Ruby was a lifelong member of Lake Union Evangelical Covenant Church, South Haven and lived in rural South Haven all of her life. She provided home care to many neighbors and relatives. She was a former president of the Lake Union Covenant Women, Sunday School teacher, caretaker of the church, and member of Helping Hands community club. She enjoyed bible study and singing with her husband and sisters. Ruby is survived by her brother, Rueben Hasselberg of Staples; many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. Her husband; parents; brother, Arthur Hasselberg; sisters, Signhild Wiberg, Hildur Olson, Vivian Person and Edith Johnson preceded her in death. The pallbearers will be Roland and Rodney Olson, David, Glen, John and Joe Hasselberg; honorary pallbearer will be Timothy Hempel. Marleigh Rumsey, pianist, Carole Looman, Wallace, Ronald and Charles Strand, vocalists, will provide music for the service. Arrangements were made by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.

Douglas Bennett Vadner

Douglas B. Vadner, age 70, of South Haven died Tuesday, November 07, 2006 at the V.A. Medical Center, St. Cloud.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Fair Haven. Rev. Timothy Nerud will officiate and burial will be in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Kimball American Legion Post 261. Friends may call one hour prior to the services.
Douglas Bennett Vadner was born January 12, 1936 in Buffalo to Lester H. and Alma C. (Coulter) Vadner. He graduated from Kimball High School and was a member of the Strategic Air Command in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He worked as a High Rigger and Welder and was employed through the Boilermaker`s Union. He married Vivian Schmidt Gunnerson on June 6, 1987 in Kimball and has lived in South Haven since 1988. He was a member of the Kimball American Legion Post 261 and the Boilermaker`s Union Local 647, Minneapolis. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian of South Haven; son, Douglas W. (Cheryl) Vadner of New York; daughter, Tamara (Michael) Opatz of Hampton; 5 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; step sons, Greg (Audrey) Gunnerson of Annandale, Kevin (Nancy) Gunnerson of South Haven, Carl (Cora Lee) Gunnerson of Litchfield, Joe (Annette) Gunnerson of South Haven, Todd (Nancy) Gunnerson of Maple Lake; step daughters, Sherry (Terry) Duncan of Ogilvie, Mona (Wayne) Weisman of Kimball; 19 step grandchildren; 12 step great grandchildren; brothers, Kermit of Nashville, TN, Russell (Donna) of Paynesville, Walter (Lois) of Anoka; sisters, Evelyn Johnson of Sedan, Beulah Clapshaw of Villard, and Kathleen Anderson of Alexandria. His parents; daughter, Ramona; and brothers, Dale and John preceded him in death.
The urn bearers will be Abraham Vadner and Tim Boelke. The honorary urn bearers will be Jamie Vadner, Steve Holter, Carlyle Melbo, and Herb Schabel. Michael Opatz and Esther Neuman will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Kimball.

John Fobbe

John Fobbe III, age 100, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at his farm home north of Maple Lake. He was born July 29, 1906 in Maple Lake to John II and Ellen (Ward) Fobbe. John married Eleanor Goelz on June 28, 1939. He was preceded in death by Eleanor; daughter, Janet; son, John Adam; son in law, Bob Stellmach; 2 sisters and 2 brothers. John is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Stellmach of Stillwater; son, Paul & his wife, Marilyn of Maple Lake; brothers & their wives, Donald & Naomi, Ralph & Dorothy, Mark & Pearl; sister in law, Ethel Fobbe, all of Maple Lake; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. John loved farming, doing so his entire lifetime. He also loved family, friends, baseball, card playing and deer hunting.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 12, 2006 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The family offers their special thanks to St. Cloud Heartland Hospice for all their caring help and services. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice. The pallbearers will be Doug, Bob, Tim, Mike & Ronnie Fobbe and Jim Goelz. Sarah Goelz & Krista Elsenpeter Tarbox will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.

Irene Clara Caroline Gordon

Irene C. Gordon, age 94, of Buffalo and formerly of Maple Lake died Friday, October 27, 2006 at Park View Care Center, Buffalo.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Silver Creek. Rev. David Fretham will officiate and burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Annandale. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral Sunday at the church.
Irene C. Gordon was born July 18, 1912 in Corinna Township to Albert and Margaret Klemz. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Corinna Township. She married Robert H. Gordon on June 11, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church, Corinna Township and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2001. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Silver Creek. Irene loved baking, cooking and spending time with family. She had a gift of hospitality and was an excellent baker.
Irene is survived by her children and their spouses, Hanford of Maple Lake, Larry and Betty of Maple Lake, Dennis of Burbank, CA, Judy and Gordon Bryan of St. Louis Park and Faith and Terry Christensen of Hutchinson; sister, Laura Schut of Becker; sister-in-law, Marilyn Gordon of South Haven; brother-in-law, Warren Christopher of Cokato; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; and 2 step great great grandchildren. Her parents; husband; granddaughter, Debbie Searcy; great granddaughter, Miranda Biedler; and sister, Irma Dalman preceded her in death.
The pallbearers will be Larry R., Larry A., John A., Andrew, Brian and Randy Gordon and Brent Bryan. Delores Hayes, organist and Darlene Fretham, soloist will provide the music for the service. Arrangements were made by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.

Sylvia Irene Brooks

Sylvia I. Brooks, age 89, of 440 Second St N. Cokato died Friday, October 27, 2006 at Mercy Hospital, Coon Rapids.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 30, 2006 at Our Saviour`s Lutheran Church, French Lake with Rev. Edward Groop officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, French Lake. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church.
Sylvia Irene Brooks was born October 1, 1917 at Annandale to Steven and Mary (Rissanen) Lampi. She lived in Brooklyn Center until moving to Cokato in 1997. She was a member of Our Saviour`s Lutheran Church.
She is survived by special friend, Eldon Swanson of Cokato; 2 sons & their wives, Steve & Shirley Hill of Annandale, Warren & Mary Hill of Carrollton, TX; sisters, Jennie Lampi of Annandale, Elizabeth Mattson of Annandale; 5 grandchildren, Chris, Ryan, David, Jeff, & Troy Hill; 6 great grandchildren, Brayden, Bryce, Tanner, Drake, Joshua & Zachary Hill. Her former husband, Ernest Hill; son, Ronald; and 6 brothers, Helmer, Richard, Martin, Wayne, Enoch & Rudolph Lampi preceded her in death.
The pallbearers will be Troy, Jeff & Chris Hill, David & Wesley Mattson, and Butch Marjapori. The organist for the service will be Margaret Groop and the arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.

James Robert Steere

James R. Steere, age 65, of Annandale died Friday, September 1, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital after a strong & courageous battle with lung cancer.
Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Thomas Queck officiating. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale and one hour prior to services at the church. There will be a prayer service at 5:30 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Coborn Cancer Center, 1900 CentraCare Circle, St. Cloud 56301.
James Robert Steere was born July 24, 1941 in Minneapolis to Frederick and Eleanor (Siese) Steere. He served his Country in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division. Jim was a beautician, owning & operating The Beauty Hut in Deephaven for 20 years and was most recently employed by Jude Vending, Maple Lake. He was a former member of the Waverly Lions Club and enjoyed time with his family, traveling, golfing & casino trips.
He is survived by his wife, Myra of Annandale; children, Jodi (Jason) Blomer of Chaska, Shari Steere of Mound; step children, Paula Ergen of Maple Lake, Shawn (Ranee) Ergen of Maple Lake, Shannon (Paul) Veches of Annandale; 10 grandchildren, Tyler Gould, Morgan & Madison Blomer, Brad, Joe & Brock Schindele, Katelyn & Shelby Ergen, Samantha & Bailey Veches; brother, Frederick `Buzz` (Sandy) Steere of Brooklyn Center, sister, Beverly `Jean` Melsness of Crystal. His parents and brother in law, Joe Melsness preceded him in death.
The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care, Annandale.

Ronald James Lauer

Ronald J. Lauer, age 73, of Maple Lake died Monday, August 28, 2006 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 31, 2006 at St. Timothy`s Catholic Church, Maple Lake with Fr. Mark Huberty officiating. Burial will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Chatham Township, Wright County. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9-10 a.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. There will be a prayer service 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Ronald James Lauer was born May 2, 1933 in Mandan, ND to Theodore C. and Dina A. (Loran) Lauer. In 1951 he graduated from Maple Lake High School and then served his Country during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Marines. Starting during high school he worked his entire lifetime in the lumber business at Central Lumber in Maple Lake, Mora & Sandstone; Windom Lumber, Windom; Fullerton Lumber in Kimball & Bird Island; and for the past 41 years for Maple Lake Lumber Co., Maple Lake. Ronnie was a member of St. Timothy`s Church, Catholic Order of Foresters & Maple Lake Legion Club Post #131. For many years he instructed gun safety classes and was a Charter/Life member of the MN Deer Hunters Assn. Ronnie was a former member of the Sandstone & Kimball Fire Departments and was a 26-year member of the Maple Lake Fire Dept. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and his family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; 5 children & their spouses, Mike & Deanna, Mark, Sharon & Rick Heberling, Bart & Marlys, Tom & Melissa, all of Maple Lake; 6 grandchildren, Jason, Kate, & Ann Heberling; Jordan, Dominic & Alana Lauer; 5 step grandchildren, Alicia, Derek, Adam, Daniel & David Northenscold; and a sister, Doris Turner of Mokelumne Hill, CA.
The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of Maple Lake Fire Department and Sarah Goelz will provide the music for the service. The arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.

Paul Francis Stein

Paul F. Stein, age 72, of Kimball died Friday, October 20, 2006 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Kimball with Fr. Tom Knoblach officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Kimball and one hour prior to the funeral Tuesday at the church. There will be a prayer service Monday at 6 p.m.
Paul F. Stein was born May 11, 1934 north of Kimball to Carl and Teresa (Osflag) Stein. He married Mary Kaye Menden in June of 1984 in St. Cloud. He worked on the farm all his life. Paul enjoyed golfing, bowling, flower gardening and traveling. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Kimball.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaye; children and their spouses, Michelle and Jerome Cleveland of Lusby, MD, Suzette and Bob Young of Lexington Park, MD, and John and Shirley Kockler of La Crosse, WI; brother and his wife, Don and Elsie Stein of Kimball; and four grandchildren. His parents and brother, Leo preceded him in death.

David Paul Engh

David P. Engh, age 71, of New Hope died Monday, August 2, 2010 at his residence.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. with Memorial Services held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. The Rev. DJ Lura will officiate and interment will be at Sylvan Cemetery, Middleville Township, Wright County.
David Paul Engh was born October 15, 1938 at Starbuck to Carl and Emma (Skaret) Engh. He was an aeronautical engineer for McDonald Douglas, then owned Plywood Minnesota in Dubuque, Iowa and later a salesman for Home Valu in Minnetonka. He was an avid reader and outdoorsman.
He is survived by a son Eric & his wife Susan of New Hope, granddaughter Erika, brother Norman & his wife Pauline of Burnsville, sister in law Carol Engh of Starbuck, and former wife Karen Compton of Annandale. His parents, sister Ellen, and brother Carl preceded him in death.

Jeffrey Scott Colbenson

Jeffrey Scott Colbenson, age 34 of Maple Lake died Sunday, August 22, 2010 in Clearwater Township, Wright County as a result of an airplane crash.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church, 12449 Clementa Ave NW, Monticello with Rev. Jim Tetlie officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake and Friday one hour prior to services at the Church.
Jeffrey Scott Colbenson was born June 8, 1976 in Buffalo to Gregory and Gloria (Gramsey) Colbenson and in 1994 graduated from Monticello High School. He worked construction for CS DuBois and enjoyed doing construction projects on his own, the backyard fish pond, the outdoors, snowmobiling out west, camping, and fishing. Jeff was engaged to be married to Beth Blizil this Saturday, August 28.
He is survived by his fiancée Beth Blizil & their son Carter Matthew Colbenson of Maple Lake, parents Greg & Gloria Colbenson of Monticello, brothers Joseph (Nicole) & their daughter Anna of Monticello, Jason of Clarissa, grandmother Eleanore Jean Colbenson of Annandale. His grandparents Milford Colbenson and Virgil & Deloris Gramsey preceded him in death.
The pallbearers will be Dave Roden, Chris Drossel, Ritchie Johnson, Steve Langanki, Aaron Vetsch, Kevin Davidson, Dude Zoller, Rob Johnson, Kyle Gramsey, and Todd Borell. The organist will be Sandy Repke and the arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care of Maple Lake.
