Ruth Wagner, 95

Ruth Amelia Bertha Wagner, 95, of Buffalo passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1916 in Frankfort Township, Wright County, the daughter of August and Bertha Zitzloff Bruska Sr.

She became a child of God when she was baptized on Dec. 24, 1916 at her parent’s home by Pastor C.J. Schrader. She renewed those vows when she was confirmed on Aug. 17, 1930 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church by Pastor J. Weiss.

On Nov. 17, 1937, Ruth Bruska and August E. Wagner were joined in holy marriage. God blessed their marriage with four children, Cynthia, William, Harris, and Diane. They lived on the family farm in Buffalo Township. Ruth later worked in housekeeping at Park View Care Center for many years.

She was a faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church all her entire life. She was a member of the Ladies Aid. Ruth also belonged to The Extension Group.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Ruth also was fond of gardening and her flowers.

After leaving the family farm, she lived a number of years at Woodmere Apartments in Buffalo and at Lake Ridge the last year and a half.

Survived by: her loving children, Cynthia (Franklin) Hohl, William “Bill” Wagner and Diane (Donald) Munsterteiger, all of Buffalo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother, August Bruska, of Buffalo; and other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by: her husband, August Wagner; a son, Harris Wagner; her parents; two brothers, Leonard and Marcus Bruska; and two sisters, Amanda Hahnke and Sylvia Georges.

Funeral services for Ruth Wagner were held on Thursday, June 21, 2 p.m., at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake. Pastor Stephen A. Smith officiated, and interment followed at the church cemetery. Organists for the funeral service were Karen Davis, Ashley and Rachel Czanstkowski. A visitation was held on Thursday from 1-2 p.m. at the church.

Casket bearers were: Chad Munsterteiger, Donald Czanstkowski, Bradley Hohl, Brian Kenmir, Steve Frykholm, and Kieth Pfeffer. Bill Wagner and Jeff Munsterteiger were honorary casket bearers.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Jerome Lambert, 72

Jerome Elmer Lambert, age 72, of Delano passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at his residence.

He was born on February 9, 1939 in Buffalo the son of August & Dolores Knight Lambert.

He was formerly employed for thirty years as a heavy equipment operator for the City of St. Louis Park. He belonged to the 49ers.

Jerome enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, rodeos, snowmobiling and camping.

Survived by his wife: Dianne Lambert; four sons: Melvin Lambert and Dean Lambert both of Delano, Michael (Julie) Lambert of Buffalo and Ronny Lambert of Delano; grandchildren: Austin Lambert and Cody Lambert; a sister: Evangeline Berthiaume of Annandale and by a brother: Harold (Catherine) Lambert of St. Louis Park; other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers: Duane, Orville and Melvin.

A Memorial service was held on Saturday, August 13th at 1:00 P.M. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Chaplain Bob Haskin officiated.

Special music was provided by Tony Kline and he sang "The Old Rugged Cross."

Honorary Casket Bearers were Clifford Lambert, Harold Lambert Jr. and Charles Wagner Jr.

Dennis Oeffling, 55

Dennis James Oeffling "Denny", age 55 of St. Michael succumbed to injuries after a tragic accident at work. Loving husband, dad, grandpa and friend to many. Denny died peacefully at North Memorial Hospital on Sunday, August 14, 2011 with his loved ones. He was born January 25, 1956 to Peter and Rose (Klonne) Oeffling in Wayzata.

Denny grew up in Hamel and graduated from Delano High School. He enjoyed working on the family farm and doing all the chores associated with it. He was his family's handyman, fixing everything and anything. He enjoyed racing cars, working in the pit crew and spending time with his friends talking racing.

Denny and Karen enjoyed traveling, seeing the country and doing things together. He and Karen loved their dogs, Malcolm and Stella who were key parts of their lives.

Denny was employed at Westside Tire for 16+ years. He truly loved his work and took great pride in serving the Corcoran community and surrounding area.

Survived by wife Karen; children Alison (Curtis) Keplin, Erica Gourneau, D.J., Angie, Richie; grandchildren; siblings John Oeffling, Marie (Henry) Dubay, Lorraine (Ronald) Hartneck, Margie Dalbec, Carolyn Anderson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. Visitation on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church prior to Mass. Rev. Nathanial Meyers will celebrate the Mass with Deacon Darrell Courier.

Harold Schilling, 80

Harold William Schilling, 80, of rural Annandale passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 27, 1930 in Gaylord, Minn., the son of Alexander and Pauline (Bomersine) Schilling. He was the second of seven children. Harold was baptized and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. His Confirmation memory verse was Matthew 26:41. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1949.

Harold honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. As a sergeant he did two tours during the Korean War, earning the Purple Heart. After military service, he attended Augsburg College.

On Dec. 22, 1956, Harold Schilling and Harriet Hanson were joined in holy marriage in Minneapolis. God blessed their marriage with two daughters.

He was formerly employed by Sheehy Construction Company in St. Paul for over 30 years, serving in many capacities.

Harold loved his small farm in Albion Township, where he raised beef cattle, pheasants and grew vegetables which he happily shared with anyone who wanted them. He enjoyed cooking for family, feeding wild birds, gardening, taking care of his animals, getting together with his friends, and helping others.

He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township, Wright County. Harold served as Trustee and could often be found down at the church doing odd jobs, including the removal of snow for many years.

Survived by: loving daughters, Darcia (Andrew) Tatham of West St. Paul and Debra (Wayne) Seppelt of Howard Lake; a granddaughter, Anneliese Tatham; siblings, Donald Schilling of Florida, Arlene Schilling of St. Paul and Ruth Ludwig of Colorado; six sisters-in-law, Joyce Perrault of Arlington, Bev Schilling of St. Paul, Lu Schilling of Washington, Ruth Schilling of Arlington, Lois Hanson of Minneapolis, and Elvera Wood of Wisconsin; and other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by: his loving wife, Harriet Schilling in 2002; his parents, Alexander and Pauline; and by three brothers, Edward, Dale and John.

A visitation for Harold took place on Sunday, May 15 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Middleville Township (rural Annandale) from 1-3 p.m. Funeral services followed at the church with Pastor Lynn Machula officiating. Interment with military rites followed at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery.

Casket bearers: Todd Schilling, Joe Carlson, Elisabeth Edmonson, Tim Edmonson, Wayne Seppelt, and Andrew Tatham.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.

Mary Lou Wagner, 95

Mary Lou Wagner, 95, of Buffalo passed away last Monday, May 16, 2011 at her home.

A Mass is taking place at 11 a.m. this Friday, May 20 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Buffalo. A visitation is being held from 4-8 p.m. this Thursday at the Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, with further visitation Friday at the church an hour prior to the Mass.

Virgil Birkholz, 77

Virgil Awalt Birkholz was born October 10, 1932 on the family farm in Middleville Township, rural Howard Lake, the son of Awalt and Frieda (Stueven) Birkholz. A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church he was baptized on November 13, 1932 by Reverend C.G. Seltz and confirmed in his faith on April 14, 1946 by Reverend Theo. Melinat. On September 22, 1951, he was married to Ann Peikert at Cokato Evangelical Lutheran Church by Reverend Oscar Peterson. Their marriage was blessed with four children.

Virgil and Ann made their home on a dairy farm north of Howard Lake. In 1977, they sold the cows and farmed the cropland until 2000 when he retired. Virgil was devoted to his faith, family, farming and friends. He enjoyed playing cards, sports, hunting, fishing, family vacations, spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially at family Sunday night suppers. For 20 years, he served as a Middleville Township Supervisor.

While at home on March 14, 2010, with Ann by his side, Virgil was called to his eternal rest. He had reached the age of 77 years, 5 months and 4 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Awalt and Frieda Birkholz; brother, Wilton; great-grandsons, Brandon and Dylan Gabbert and other close relatives.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Ann; children, Viann (Alan) Montgomery, Larae (Terry) Ostgulen, Gregory (Cathy) Birkholz of Howard Lake and Mark (Judy) Birkholz of Wayzata; sisters, Ruby (Don) Drusch, Wilma Nelson; brother, Merrill Birkholz; brother-in-law Dr. Carl (Jean) Peikert; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Wesley) Grussendorf and Ruth Maddox; nine grandchildren, Mindy (Rob) Shulfer, Marey (Mike) Woolhouse, Matthew (Leah) Montgomery, Mitchell Montgomery, Angela (Justin) Gabbert, Trisha (Tom) Hempstead, Sara (Justin) Niesen, Adam Birkholz and Jenna Birkholz; fourteen great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ben Shulfer; Marissa, Madyson, Kobey and Carson Woolhouse; William Montgomery; Taylor, Shelby, Brooke and Gracie Gabbert; Morgan, Abby and Brody Niesen; nieces; nephews; and a host of family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were his grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Officiating at the celebration of his life on Thursday, March 18th, 2:00 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake will be Reverend Martin Schoenfeld and Reverend Michael Nirva. Special music by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends from the St. James Worship Choir. Mrs. Nancy Butterfass will serve as organist. Interment will follow the services at the Howard Lake Cemetery.

Kenneth Erickson, 77

Kenneth Gerald Erickson, 77 of Buffalo, passed away September 16, 2010 at the Buffalo Hospital in Buffalo, Minnesota.

Kenneth Gerald Erickson was born February 7, 1933 in Marysville Township, Wright County, Buffalo, to Walfred and Mildred (Mattson) Erickson. He grew up in Marysville Township and attended country school. After school he worked on the family farm and later for the railroad for a few years.

Kenneth was united in marriage to Mary Ann Decker on June 2, 1956 in Monticello. The family lived in several places throughout Minnesota. Kenneth drove ready mix truck for fifteen years and was a brick layer and cement mason for twenty years. His hobbies included listening to country and western music, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, traveling, camping and playing cards. Kenneth loved to dance, especially the polka. Kenneth enjoyed his trips to Breezy Point Resort and his puppies. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, being a prankster and his love of lutefisk. Kenneth was a member of the Hanover Lions Club, the Brick Layers Union, and St. Francis Catholic Church.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Mary Ann Erickson of Buffalo, children; Kathleen (Jim) Krotzer of Akeley, MN, Deborah (Dan) Noling of Annandale, Julie (Gary) Skjod of Hanover, Laurie (Jon) Olson of Maple Lake, and Kenneth Gerald Erickson Jr. of Buffalo; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Eileen (Lewis) Swanson of Tower, MN, Floyd "Buck" (Marlene) Erickson of Buffalo, Harlan (Arlene) Erickson of Buffalo, Theodore (Judy) Erickson of Montrose, and Sharon (Don) Chamley of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walfred and Mildred Erickson, his siblings; Vernon, Don Bernice, Lois, Eleanor, and Muriel and an infant grandson Richard Noling.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo, with Fr. David Hennen, celebrant. Visitation was Sunday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. Interment was in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Buffalo.

Casket bearers were Joseph Skjod, Andrew Skjod, Tim Kopp, Garret Noling, Clinton Noling and Joe Engval.

The Peterson Chapel of Buffalo assisted the family with arrangements.
