Orvella Doering, 86
Orvella Ann Doering (nee Bullert) was born on April 25, 1929, in Green Isle Township, Sibley County, Minnesota, to Fred and Clara (nee Krohn) Bullert, where she was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church. She was confirmed in her faith at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. She graduated from Howard Lake Public School after attending both a country school and St. James Lutheran Grade School.
On May 12, 1949, Orvella married Orlin Doering at St. James Lutheran Church, Howard Lake. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Orvella was a life-long and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Orvella was a hard worker who held several jobs throughout her life. Among those jobs, the more memorable being manager of the Lake Bowl Restaurant, office worker at Howard Lake Creamery, and office manager for Sonstegard Foods, all located in Howard Lake. She also had several part-time jobs that involved cooking with her cousin, Delores Glessing. They had many good times working and laughing together. They operated a lunch wagon, traveling to local auctions, ran the local Legion Restaurant for eight years, and catered small events. In her senior years, she was a volunteer “grandma” for the Headstart Program at St. John’s Church. Working with the children gave her much pleasure.
Orvella leaves a legacy of loyalty to family, hard work, and a feisty attitude to all her offspring. She was a modest person who loved her family and loved cooking for them.
Mom especially loved children and enjoyed being around them. She also cherished every minute she was able to spend with her sister, Donna Krause, traveling, going to concerts, or visiting together. Donna was a faithful and welcomed visitor in Mom’s years of declining health.
Mom and Dad shared life together for sixty-four years before he passed away. Many will attest to her amazing will to live, over-coming several physical challenges in the last years of her life. She will be missed by her many friends, who vouch for her character and loyalty to family and friends.
It was on August 25, 2015, that Orvella went to her eternal home. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Orlin; parents, Fred and Clara Bullert; and her brother, Omer.
Orvella is survived by: sister, Donna (Robert) Krause; children, Durene (Bob) Rogers of Roanoke, Virginia, Rick (Karen) Doering of Delano, and Sheri Fenn of Chaska; seven grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Rogers, Eric (Laura) Rogers, Scott (Lindsay) Doering, Julie (Micah) Martin, Krista (Andy) Giefer, Nick Fenn, and Michael Fenn; five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Josiah, Nora, and Mara Martin, and Chase Lamb; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Orvella’s life was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. A time of gathering was held on Friday, August 28, 2015, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Howard Lake and continued one hour prior to services at the church. Internment was at the Howard Lake City Cemetery immediately following services.

Patricia Kessler, 82
Patricia M. Kessler, 82 of St. Michael, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born on October 13, 1932, in Rogers, the daughter of Matt and Laura (Lenz) Weber.
On November 3, 1953, Patricia M. Weber and William N. Kessler were joined in holy marriage at St. Walburga Catholic Church in Fletcher. God blessed their marriage with four children.
She was a faithful member of The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael and belonged to the Prayer Team.
She enjoyed playing cards, board games and bingo.
She was actively involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. They were very important to her.
Patricia is survived by: children, Pam (Kent) Bjorklund of St. Michael, Nancy (Nate) Richards of Maple Lake, William P. (Kerry) Kessler of St. Michael, and Vicki Dick of St. Michael and fiancée Bill Uter; eighteen grandchildren, Nate, Travis, Adam, and Jake; Rachel, Allie, Ashley, Tyson and Wyatt; William, Sadie, Thomas and Michael; Cassandra, Joe, Mike, Jessica and Nick; eleven great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ellie and Oliver; Crewe, Jaxx and Keen; Avery and Asher; Cobie; Quinn; and William; and other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by: husband William N. Kessler; her parents, Matt and Laura Weber; a sister, Marlene Kessler; and a brother, Gene Weber.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Kessler was held on Monday, August 31, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of St. Michael in St. Michael. Father Peter Richards was the Celebrant. Readers for the Mass were Cassandra Dick and Allie Knutsen. Gift Bearers were Sadie Kessler and Rachel Knutsen. Interment followed at the St. Michael Cemetery.
A visitation was held on Sunday, August 30, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel, St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. Further visitation was one hour prior to Mass at the church on Monday morning, August 31.
Casket Bearers were grandsons Nate Dahlheimer, Travis Dahlheimer, Adam Bjorklund, Jake Bjorklund, Bill Kessler, Tom Kessler, and Mike Kessler.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home served the family.
Paul Kalinowski, 64
Paul Anthony Kalinowski, 64, of Zimmerman, Minn. passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born on March 30, 1951 in Karlstad, Minn. to Anton and Edith (Bloomquist) Kalinowski. He grew up in Lake Bronson and graduated from Greenbush High School in Greenbush, Minn. in 1969. After high school, Paul attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis until he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He went to basic training at Fort Lewis in Washington and then went on to be stationed in Nurenburg, Germany from 1971-1972.
Paul married Kimberly Phelps in 1983 in Buffalo, Minn. They were happily married for 31 years and were blessed with 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
Paul owned his own construction business for many years, until doctors told him that his body could no longer handle working as hard as he did full time. He had given his heart to the Lord in 1983 and fell in love with serving the church, so this news only enabled him to devote more time to the things he truly loved, serving Jesus, others and the church. His servant’s heart led him to many areas of ministry: Men’s Wild Game Feeds, Thanksgiving Food Boxes, Rushing Winds Outreach Camp in Canada, Food Drives for those in need, Hunting Trips for children with disabilities, Missions, and most importantly, leading his family to grow with Christ.
Paul was a husband, father, Papa, brother, friend, leader, hunter, fisherman and above all, a Christian.
He is survived by: his wife, Kim of Zimmerman, Minn.; children, Abbie (Todd) Lux of Buffalo, Brianna (Isaac) Molin of Rochester, Corey (Katie) Kalinowski of Princeton, and Kyle (Kayla) Kalinowski of Becker; sisters, Karen Lips of Andover and Linda (Gabe) Kasprowicz of Sartell; grandchildren, Henry and Harris Lux, Cole, Carson and Kinsley Kalinowski and Elias Molin; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Edith, and sister, Deanna of California.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., and a Celebration of Life Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. (with food and fellowship to follow), on Sunday, Sept. 13 at New Life Church, Princeton, Minn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to “The Thanksgiving Food Box Ministry, ” one of Paul’s greatest passions. Donations can be made during visitation and after the service. For those unable to attend and wish to give, please send to New Life Church with a note of designation toward “Thanksgiving Food Boxes.”
Patricia Matheny, 79
Patricia Ann (Olson) Matheny of Buffalo, Minn. passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015.
Patricia was born in Clarion, Iowa on April 23, 1935 to parents, Paul LaVerne Olson and Mildred (Van Buskirk) Olson. She graduated from Minneapolis Marshall High School in 1953, having enjoyed: dances, golf, modeling stores downtown, singing solos at school concerts, and attending parties with friends.
She and her first husband, Jerry Welch, lived in Heidelberg Germany and Minneapolis. Patricia married a second time to Robert Matheny. Patricia, Bob and Vicki moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Woodstock, Ill., where horses and dogs became an integral part of their lives. They moved back to Paynesville, Minn. on a hobby farm. Bob passed away in 1988.
Pat worked in a number of organizations throughout her career, including the Health Department and University of Minnesota. She lived awhile in Sitka, Alaska. In retirement, she moved to Buffalo.
She led an active and interesting life. She enjoyed: bowling, golf, dancing, cooking, sewed, knitted, crocheted, painted, wrote short stories, and enjoyed email and the Internet. She was a capable, intelligent and caring woman to family and friends alike. She loved dogs and had many of them over her 79 years. She always did her best to do things the right way and was a generous and caring person with whom to talk. She was a valiant and uncomplaining breast cancer survivor and later developed COPD. She will be missed.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cathy, and second husband. She is survived by: daughter, Vicki Lynne (Welch) Buhl; son-in-law, Todd; sister, Mary Jo Nelsen (and husband, Lenn); sister, Nancy Kneeland; and nieces, Moira Bateman and Rachel Kneeland.
Pat’s Celebration of Life will be held at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, Plymouth, Minn. on Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 5-8 p.m., with private interment at Sunset Memorial Park in Minneapolis at a later time.
Marjorie Torblaa, 93
Marjorie Adeline Torblaa, 93, of Delano, Minn. went to be with her Lord on Sept. 7, 2015.
She was born on Feb. 5, 1922 in Grafton, N.D. the daughter of Walter and Adeline (Britnell) Schneider. She attended school in Grafton and graduated from high school in 1940.
She married Gordon “Doc” Torblaa, also from Grafton, in 1940. Besides Grafton, Marge and “Doc” lived in Stephen, Blue Earth and Rockford. They were blessed with five boys: Lon, David, Jon, Mark, and Paul. They owned and operated the Rockford House from 1954 to 1969 and then moved to Tucson, Ariz.
Marge was active with the American Legion and the VFW Auxiliary in Tucson, even serving as the VFW Auxiliary President.
Doc passed away in 1979. Marge then moved to Henderson, Nev. in 2001 to be near her youngest son, Paul. In 2010, Marge moved back to Delano and resided at the Legacy of Delano.
She was the mainstay at the Rockford House as she worked tirelessly to run the restaurant and family at the same time. She passed her tremendous work ethic on to all of her boys. After her working days were over, she enjoyed traveling, playing cards and walking.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Doc, and son, David in 1996.
She is survived by: her sons, Lon (Laverne), Jon (Luanne), Mark (Susan), and Paul; daughter-in-law, Brenda (David’s widow); 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Marjorie Torblaa will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2 p.m., with visitation one hour prior to services, at Cross Lutheran Church in Rockford, Minn.
The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, Minn. assisted the family with arrangements.
Amelia Schippel, 69
Amelia “Millie” Envey Schippel, 69, of Roseville, died Monday, August 24, 2015, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Annandale. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 3, at Alama Cemetery, County Road 5 and 30th Street NW, Annandale. A gathering of friends and family will follow the graveside service at the home of Dave and Barb Lundberg, 500 Lake Drive West, Annandale.
Amelia Ann Envey was born January 15, 1946, in Dearborn, Michigan, to Gregory Cifor and Lempi (Niemi) Envey. She loved her childhood at Lake Sylvia near Annandale. Millie graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis with the Class of 1964. She enjoyed art, swimming, fishing, sports, dancing, and visiting with friends and family. Millie was devoted to her children.
Millie is survived by her sons Andy (Laura) Schippel of Circle Pines and Richard Petterson of Roseville; grandchildren Andrew, Spencer, Caleb, and Ella; brothers Rick (Susan) Envey of Annandale and Greg (Terri) Envey of Sarasota, Florida; aunt Helen Heino of Annandale; and best friend Janet Erickson of Annandale.
Donna Schut, 83
Donna Mae Schut was born September 12, 1931, in Silver Creek Township, northeast of Silver Creek, Minnesota, to Charles and Josephine (Johnson) Rotsolk. She died on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, Minnesota, at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 14 days.
Donna was baptized into the Christian faith by Rev. A. Cloeter on October 18, 1931, and affirmed her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the rite of confirmation on July 14, 1946, with Rev. Martin A. Houser officiating. Both of these blessed events were conducted through Immanuel Lutheran Church of Silver Creek.
She grew up in Silver Creek Township and attended the Carter School, north of Silver Creek, through the 8th grade. She graduated in 1949 from Annandale High School. Donna married Leland Schut on October 21, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Silver Creek with Rev. C. F. Kurzweg officiating. They lived on the farm in Maple Lake Township during their married life. When Leland was in the military service in 1954-1955, she spent eight months in Massachusetts, while he was stationed at Fort Devens outside of Boston.
Donna was a devoted dairy farm wife and mother. Outside of duties on the farm she enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing. At Immanuel Lutheran Church she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was an active member in the Ladies Aid/Lutheran Women’s Missionary League society. She took part in the choir at Immanuel congregation and at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Buffalo, where she currently held membership. Throughout her life, she showed Jesus to those around her in many ways.
Survivors awaiting the resurrection include: husband, Leland of rural Buffalo; son, Rev. Bruce (wife Jan) Schut of Scribner, Nebraska; two grandsons, Jordan and Micah Schut of Scribner, Nebraska; one sister, Delores (husband Jim) Hayes of Maple Lake; and her two sons, Mark (wife Sharon) of rural Buffalo and David (wife Shirley) of rural Monticello; three sisters-in-law, Lola (husband Gene) Veches of Buffalo, Carolyn Krengel of Milaca, and Janet Fredrick of Becker; one brother-in-law Richard Schut (wife Marcia) of Becker; and nephews and nieces.
Donna was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Charles (1956); sister, Eunice (in infancy); and two brothers-in-law, Wayne Fredrick and Ken Krengel.
Visitation was held at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E. Broadway, Monticello, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015. The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Hosanna Lutheran Church in Buffalo. The Rev. Rob Jarvis and Rev. Norm Hanan conducted the service. Diane Kivy was the organist with members of Hosanna Church singing. Burial was at the Corinna Lutheran Cemetery between Silver Creek and Annandale.
Funeral arrangements were with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.
