Agnes Kohnen, 89
Agnes M. Kohnen, 89, of Albertville, formerly of Loretto, died quietly in her sleep on Friday, March 25, 2016 at her residence.
She was born on June 8, 1926 in St. Leo the daughter of Joseph W. and Margaret (Eilen) Volkenant.
On Oct. 30, 1946, Agnes M. Volkenant and Marlin C. Kohnen were joined in holy marriage at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. God blessed their marriage with six children: Gary, Kathleen, Mark, Steve, Janet, and Peggy.
Agnes and Marlin engaged in dairy farming in Greenfield for many years. She was a faithful member of St. Albert’s Catholic Church in Albertville.
Survived by: her loving children, Gary (Vivian) Kohnen of Buffalo, Kathleen Vergin Beaudry of Otsego, Mark (Eveleen) Kohnen of Buffalo, Janet (Arthur) Jones of New Hope, and Peggy (Ron) Buerman of Richmond; a daughter-in-law, Linda (Steve) Kohnen of Rogers; 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Anderson of Maple Plain; a sister-in-law, Lucille Thies of Hopkins; brothers-in-law, Dave Sovell of Maple Plain and Elton (Darlene) Kohnen of Mesa, Ariz.; and other relatives and friends.
Preceded in death by: husband, Marlin C. Kohnen; a son, Steve J. Kohnen; two sons-in-law; her parents; and seven siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Agnes Kohnen was scheduled at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30 in the Church of St. Albert, Albertville, with Father Peter Richards as the Celebrant. A visitation was scheduled at the church on Tuesday, March 29, with further visitation at the church on Wednesday morning an hour prior to Mass.
Casket bearers: Nathan Kohnen, Randy Vergin, Daniel Kohnen, Thomas Kohnen, Katie Jones, and Keith Robeck.
The Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home served the family.
Joseph Schaust, 90
Joseph Leo Schaust, 90, of Delano passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016 with his family by his side. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.
Joseph was born on July 12, 1925 to Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust in Franklin Township, Minn.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust; siblings and spouses, Leona (George) Fake, Anthony Schaust, Betty (Rich) Gabrelcik, Loren (Dorothy) Schaust, Glen Litfin, and Bob Farniok; grandson, Craig Peterson; brother-in-law, Ray (Bernice) Kittock; and sister-in-law, Kitty (Marty) VanLith.
He is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Lorraine (Kittock); children, Joseph Schaust Jr., Mary Peterson, Pat Honebrink, Tom (Marlene) Schaust, Rick (Tammy) Schaust, Larry (Joyce) Schaust, and Vicki Schaust; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings, Arlene Litfin, Jean Farniok, George (Joan) Schaust, Leonard (Maxine) Schaust, and Matt (Estelle) Schaust; and sister-in-law, Deloris Schaust.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 1 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, Minn. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. with 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service and continues Friday from 10 to 11:00 a.m. (with 9:30 a.m. Rosary Service), all in Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Delano.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Peter Catholic Church.
Arrangements are by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
Viola Braegelmann, 81
Viola K. Braegelmann, 81, of Delano went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 11, 2016.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1934 in Blue Earth to Ben and Evelyn (Zutz) Donnay.
Viola was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a 4-H leader for many years, an active member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of the Homewreckers Club. Viola enjoyed listening and dancing to Old Time music. She loved to garden, cook, socialize, play cards, and don’t forget the chocolate ice cream.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Jerry; two infant siblings; and brother-in-law, Pete Bautch. She is survived by: her husband of 63 years, Fritz; children, Judy (Mike) White, Joan (Marty) Nimerfroh, Jim (Mary Jo) Braegelmann, John Braegelmann, Jay (Clari) Braegelmann, Joe (Vicki) Braegelmann, and Janice (Jeff) Schweiss; 18 grandchildren, Jamie (Paul) McCullough, Jodi White, Justin Mielke, Erin (Nick) Czech, Kerri (Nathan) Metz, Jordan Braegelmann, Krista Braegelmann, Jessica (Paul) Muckenhirn, Jacqueline Braegelmann, Jake Braegelmann, Mandi (Jeff) Brown, Alex (Brian) Juhnke, Abbi Braegelmann (fiancé Mitch Kelzer), Jesse Braegelmann, Jacob Schweiss, Jack Schweiss, Josh Schweiss, and Jared Schweiss; 11 great-grandchildren, Madelyn Czech, Claire Czech, Lily Czech, Ayden Metz, Colynn Matti, Lucy Matti, Natalie McCullough, Everett Brown, Ella Brown, William Ferguson, and Gretchen Juhnke; and siblings, Roland (Rita) Donnay, Audrey (Jim) Hennen and Ivone Bautch.
Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled on Tuesday, April 19 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano, with visitation, Rosary and prayer service on Monday at Martha’s Hall of St. Peter Catholic Church (visitation continued Tuesday at the church prior to Mass).
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
Ralph Fobbe, 90
Ralph T. Fobbe, 90, of Maple Lake died Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, Minn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22 at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake with Fr. John Meyer as the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Timothy’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Friday, both at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel, Maple Lake. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Ralph Thomas Fobbe was born July 13, 1925 in Maple Lake Township to John and Ellen “Nellie” (Ward) Fobbe II. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He continued working on the family farm, in addition to other farms.
At the age of 18, Ralph entered the United States Army and honorably served his country during World War II.
Upon his discharge, he returned home and on Oct. 2, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ann Juetten at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale. After their wedding, they briefly lived with Dorothy’s parents before they purchased the Fobbe family farm.
Ralph worked construction for Orfei’s and Sons 25 years, along with running the farm. Ralph was an active member of the Maple Lake American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of Farmer’s Union, as well as St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. Ralph volunteered his time for Wright County Community Action, as well as Wright County Human Services, helping at Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Projects. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, traveling, and gardening. Ralph enjoyed socializing and was liked by everyone. Ralph’s greatest enjoyment was the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ralph is survived by: his children, Michael (Jean) Fobbe, Patrick Fobbe, Richard (Jolynn) Fobbe, and Debra (Grant) Krohn, all of Maple Lake; six grandchildren, Shawn and Shannon Krohn, both of Maple Lake, Michelle Killian of Minneapolis, Tara Buermann of Kimball, Jena Pauls of Kimball, and Brooke Geyen of Minneapolis; nine great-grandchildren, Courtney, Katlyn, Erin, Malia, Zoe, Ralph, Kadon, Maddy, and Kyra; brother, Mark (Pearl) Fobbe of Maple Lake; sisters-in-law, Ethel Fobbe and Naomi Fobbe, both of Maple Lake; and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Ralph was preceded in death by: his parents; wife; grandson, Adam Hansen; brothers, John III, Raymond, Roy, and Donald Fobbe; and sisters, Viola Desmarais and Mabel Ann Emon.
John Ward, Tom Ward, Paul Fobbe, Tim Fobbe, Kevin Elfstrand, and Jessi Knese will serve as pallbearers. Krista Elsenpeter-Tarbox and Shannon Paumen will provide music for the service.

Carl Gutknecht Jr., 92
Carl George Gutknecht Jr., 92, of Buffalo passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Buffalo Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1924 in Frankfort Township, Wright County, Minn., the son of Carl H. Sr. and Eleanor Fredricke Wilhelmina (Pautzke) Gutknecht.
He was baptized on March 9, 1924 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake by Pastor W.C. Schrader. He was also instructed in the Lutheran catechism and confirmed in his Christian faith on Aug. 15, 1937 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake by Pastor W.C. Nickels.
Carl graduated from Buffalo High School in 1942 and participated in choir and sports.
Carl Gutknecht met Roberta Haase at a dance in Minneapolis, and continued old time dancing from there onward. The two were married on May 16, 1953 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bertha, Minn. (a double wedding ceremony with his sister-in-law, Alice Haase, and Sverre Waagen) by the Reverend A.J. Kretzchmar. God blessed their marriage with six children.
He was a faithful member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake. Through the years, Carl held several church offices, was a church elder, president of the church counsel, and sang in the choir.
He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict between 1946 and 1947.
Carl was a farmer and a Mallard Seed Corn Dealer. Besides farming, Carl enjoyed playing the harmonica, making wine, sitting in his orchard, going to the family lake cabin, time spent with his grandchildren, and attending family events. He had a great sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Roberta Gutknecht; great-grandson, Isaiah; parents; infant brother; brothers, Elmer, Richard, Walter, Arthur, and Elroy; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Gutknecht, Doris Gutknecht and Darleen Gutknecht; and brother-in-law, Johannes Fure.
He is survived by: his children, Laura (Jon) Cella of Copperas Cove, Texas, Karla McPherson of Buffalo, Claudia (Micah) Ernst of Eugene, Mo., Teresa (Douglas) Umphrey of Twin Valley, Minn., Daniel K. Gutknecht of Buffalo, and Barbara (Ron Schliesman) Clifton of Montrose; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Lillian (Edwin) Duff of Sun City, Ariz.; sisters-in-law, Florence Gutknecht of Buffalo, Beatrice Fure of Shakopee and Alice (Sverre) Waagen of Clearwater; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Funeral services for Carl Gutknecht were scheduled on Friday, April 15 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church-Pelican Lake with Pastor Stephen A. Smith officiating and with interment following at the church cemetery. A visitation with prayer service was scheduled on Thursday, April 14 at the church, with further visitation on Friday at the church an hour prior to the services.
Casket bearers: Uriah Ernst, Joshua Ernst, Amanda Campbell, Miranda Dittmer, Undria Davis, Rachel McPherson, Rebecca Cella, Tommy McPherson, and Diana Steele.
Honorary casket bearers included all other grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church - Pelican Lake or West Lutheran School in Plymouth.
Serving the family is the Peterson Chapel of Buffalo.
Raymond Hertell, 72
Raymond Olaf “Shorty” Hertell was born at San Francisco, Calif. on July 20, 1943 to Olaf A. and Ellen Helen (Hobakoski) Hertell. He grew up in Minnetonka, Minn. He attended and graduated from Hopkins High School.
On Oct. 1, 1963, Raymond entered the United States Army and served as a small arms repairman. Part of his service time was spent in Wertheim, Germany. Raymond retired from the military in 2003.
On April 9, 1977, Ray married Dianne Topel at Buffalo, Minn. The couple made their home in Cokato, Minn., and to this union, two children, Kyle and Nicole, were born.
Ray worked in many places during his life, and some of them were: Pako Manufacturing, Honeywell, Roberts Automatic Products, and SSDI. He enjoyed hunting, shooting and fishing, and he coached 4-H shooting sports. He was a member of the VFW in Hopkins, Wolf Lake and Litchfield, and a member of the American Legion in Litchfield. He was a member of the NRA, Disabled Veterans, Rainbow Sportsmans of Cokato, and Wolf Lake Sportsman.
Raymond passed away at the Golden Living Center of Delano, Minn. on April 13, 2016. He had reached the age of 72 years, 8 months and 23 Days.
Survivors include: his wife, Dianne of Cokato; son, Kyle of Menahga; daughter, Nicole of Montrose; grandchildren, Paige and Tyler; and other relatives and many friends. Ray was preceded in death by his parents.
A time of gathering and visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Cokato. Interment will be at Camp Ripley Cemetery of Little Falls, Minn.
Mildred Holm, 95
Mildred I. (Wolfsteller) Holm, 95, of Annandale died on Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Annandale Care Center.
Funeral services was scheduled on Friday, April 15 at the Annandale Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Jeff Droogsma officiating and with burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Visitation was scheduled an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Mildred Ida Holm was born Jan. 6, 1921 in Albion Township to Emil and Anna (Engelman) Wolfsteller. She grew up on the family farm and attended high school in Annandale. In 1942, she moved to California, where she worked as a welder in the shipyards during World War II. Following the war, she worked various jobs while also raising her family. She later owned and operated a motel in Monterey, Calif.
In 1980, she returned to the Annandale area. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Holm.
Mildred was a member of the Annandale Evangelical Free Church, as well as the Maple Lake VFW Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, bowling, gardening, angling, snowmobiling, and was an avid golfer. She was also a pilot and enjoyed flying alongside her husband and traveling the world. Her family and her faith were of the utmost importance to her.
She is survived by: her son, Duane Saksa of Annandale; grandchildren, Harold (Christine) Saksa of Maple Grove and Michele (Pat) Siebenaler of Bloomington; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Emma Saksa, and Emily and Erin Siebenaler; brothers, Gilbert Wolfsteller of St. Paul, Marvin (Jean) Wolfsteller of Fridley and Lester (Barbara) Wolfsteller of Reno, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, LeRoy; and siblings, Ervin and Ray Wolfsteller, Evelyn Geyen, Doris Ross, Norma Thurber-Zander, and Arlene Zeidler.
Harold, Evan and Emma Saksa, Pat, Emily and Erin Siebenaler were asked to serve as pallbearers.
