Benny A. Poe II
Benny A. Poe II, 46, died Friday, June 3, 2005, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Benny Allen Poe II was born May 6, 1959, in Corvallis, OR, to Benny and Patricia (Pope) Poe. He grew up in Halsey, OR, and graduated from high school in Bremerton, WA. After high school, Benny worked as a waiter in Bremerton.
On July 31, 1987, Benny married Teresa Debuque in Ogden, UT, and they made their home in the Seattle, WA, area. Benny lived for a period of time in Colorado and eventually moved to Detroit Lakes in 2004 to be closer to his daughter. Benny was currently working as a bartender in the Detroit Lakes area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Benny is survived by his daughter, Sierra, Hawley; his mother, Patricia Tanberg, Glenwood Springs, CO; his father, Benny (Ellen) Poe I, Albany, OR; a brother, Matthew Tanberg, Salem, OR; two sisters, Karla (Richard) Poe-White, Mountlake Terrace, WA, and Shawna (Jeff) Blevins, Glenwood Springs; and his grandmother, Charlene Poe, Albany.
A private family service will be held for Benny.
Rev. James R. Peterson
James Richard Peterson, the son of Edward and Minnie (Mattson) Peterson, was born in the Audubon, MN, area on July 3, 1922. He graduated from high school in Detroit Lakes, MN, in 1940. Jim served three years with the 5th Marine Division in the Pacific arena during WWII. Jim was married to Elizabeth “Libby” Wenberg on June 4, 1947, in International Falls, MN. He graduated in 1948 from Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, and from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN, in 1952.
Jim was ordained at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. His first parish was Nome, ND. He also served in Holt, Cook, and Blackduck in Minnesota; and Towner, Williston, and Minot, in North Dakota. In 1994, Jim and Libby moved to Colorado. Libby died July 1, 1997.
On September 28, 2002, Jim was married to Lois Guenthner. They lived in Parker, Colorado, and later in Aurora, CO.
Rev. James R. Peterson, died on Friday, September 9, 2005, in Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, CO, at the age of 83. He had a passion for life and serving others. He loved and was very proud of his family, who all miss him dearly as a husband, dad, and grandpa. He enjoyed building birdhouses, chairs and tables. He also loved watching the moon. It was common to catch him humming or whistling a hymn or visiting with clerks at the grocery store or someone he met on a walking path.
Jim is survived by his second wife, Lois; two sons, Jim (Bev) Peterson, and Tom (Bev) Peterson; four daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Sjostrand, Debbie (Steve) Gibson, Sara (Mark) Cheney, and Annette (John) Haman; a sister, Irene Oien; five stepchildren, Jeanenne Bennett, Tim (Vicki) Guenthner, Jacquie (Jeff) Anderson, Melanie (Mark) DeYoung, and Craig (Havens) Guenthner; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials preferred to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation: Thursday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service: Thursday, September 15, 2005, at 2:00 PM, St Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Audubon, MN.

Zygmunt "Zyggy" Palowski
Zygmunt Palowski, 81, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, June 6, 2005, in his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Zyg was born April 9, 1924, to Adam and Petrusa (Chickonowicz) Palowski, in Springfield, VT. Zyg attended local schools and received his machinist apprenticeship training at Jones & Lamson Machine Company while in high school. Zyg graduated from Springfield High School in 1942.
Zyg enlisted in the US Navy and attended basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Additional machinist training was done at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis campus, where he met his future bride-to-be.
Zyg served in the Pacific Theatre and was discharged May 24, 1946. Zyg married Delores Fischbach, on August 3, 1946, in St. Paul, MN. They made their home with their two children in the Twin Cities until they moved to Moorhead in 1964. Prior to their move, Zyg attended the William Dunwoody Industrial Institution, Minneapolis, specializing in die making.
Zyg was vice president of Atlas Products, sister company of Silverline Boats, Moorhead. He also owned and operated Zyg’s Machine and Tool Company. He retired in 1989, and they continued to reside in Moorhead. Zyg was a life member of Moorhead VFW.
Zyg is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Delores; one daughter, Nannette (Dennis) Bakko, Walcott, ND; one son, Dennis (Diane) Palowski, Arthur, ND; four grandchildren, Shaina and Jared Bakko, West Fargo, ND, and Chad and Adam Palowski, Arthur; two sisters, Helen (Fred) Miglorie, White River Junction, VT, and Jean King, Dracut, MA; and two brothers, Stanley Palowski, Springfield, VT, and William (Linda) Palowski, Sebastian, FL. Zyg was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Zyg will be Thursday, June 9, 2005, from 6 - 8 PM, with a vigil service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, 409 - 8th St. S., Moorhead. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, June 10, 2005, at 1 PM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
Connie M. Oxton
Connie M. Oxton, 77, Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, in Moorhead Healthcare Center. Constance Merle Mustad, daughter of Gilbert and Bertine (Hilstad) Mustad, was born Jan. 19, 1928, in Finley, ND, where she grew up and graduated from high school. On Sept. 6, 1947, she married Donald R. Oxton in Chicago, IL. After a short time in Chicago, they made their home in Moorhead.
Connie worked as an accountant at Comstock Memorial Union, Moorhead State College, and retired after thirty years of service. Connie was active in the VFW Auxiliary, Moorhead, as well as a volunteer for Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead. She was fond of cats. She was loved by her family, friends, and anyone who knew her.
Connie was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Karen, her parents, seven sisters, and one brother.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandy (John) Silletto, West Valley City, Utah; a son, Larry (Lezlee) Oxton, Loveland, CO; three sisters, Laura Madsen, Fulsom, CA, Trudy Gilbertson, Moorhead, and Sybby (Odin) Knutson, Valley City, ND; one brother, Robert (Marlys) Mustad, Glasgow, MT; and two grandchildren, Jack and Jessica Oxton.

Olga Ott Kinlaw
Olga Ott Kinlaw, 86, Franklinton, LA, died peacefully on April 22, 2005, in Baton Rouge, LA.
Olga Ott was born June 5th, 1918 near Mt. Hermon, LA, to James and Dora Ott. She married A. J. Kinlaw of Columbia, SC. He died in 1970. She is survived by two sons, Jim Kinlaw (Judy), of Fargo, ND and Larry Kinlaw (Dot) of Denham Springs, Louisiana, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Jim & Judy are blessed to be members of Brookdale Baptist Church, Moorhead, MN where the lessons of the Bible are accurately taught.
Since Olga put her faith and trust in the Lord, her spirit is already in the presence of our Lord and all the glory of Heaven. Her body will finally receive the rest that it has earned as she was buried at Silver Springs Cemetery, near Osyka, Mississippi.
Leonardo R. Orona
Leonardo R. Orona, 84, Dilworth, MN, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Leonardo Rojus Orona was born November 6, 1921, in Crystal City, TX, where he grew up and received his education. On November 6, 1946, he married Lucia Rodriquez in Crystal City. They made their home in Crystal City in the winters and worked as farm laborers for Astrup Farms in the summers. In 1956, they settled in Dilworth where Leonardo continued to work for Astrup Farms until his retirement.
Lucia died on November 14, 2001, and Leonardo continued to make his home in Dilworth.
Leonardo is survived by two sons, Felix (Linda), Dilworth, and Leonard (Kathy), Houston, TX; one brother, Florentino Orona, Crystal City; fifteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Bryan Opskar
Bryan J. Opskar, the son of Erling and Betty (Arndt) Opskar, was born February 14, 1973, at Princeton, MN, where he grew up and received his education. While in high school he played hockey, football and track. He graduated from high school in 1991. After high school Bryan played junior hockey in Anoka, MN, for a year and then in Fargo, ND, for a year. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, for a year and a half, and played hockey for the Cobbers. After attending Concordia, he worked at Tires Plus in Fargo and then returned to Princeton to work.
In 1998, Bryan enlisted in the US Marine Corps. After training, he was assigned to the 3rd LAR Battalion in Twentynine Palms, CA. In March of 2003, his unit took part in the Iraq invasion. He returned to California and in February of 2004, was assigned to Charlie Company, 2nd LAR Battalion in North Carolina. In March of 2005, his unit was sent to Iraq, where Bryan was killed in combat on July 23, 2005. He was 32 years old.
On December 31, 2004, Bryan was united in marriage to the love of his life, Leandra Dougherty, in Fargo. Leandra and Bryan had known each other for twelve years.
In addition to his wife, Leandra, Bryan is survived by his parents, Erling and Betty of Pelican Rapids, MN; a brother, Christopher (Rebecca) Opskar, Brooklyn Park, MN; grandfather, Ervin Opskar, Enderlin, ND; grandmother, Dorothy Arndt, Fargo; Leandra’s parents, Lauri and Leo Dougherty, Missoula, Montana; and Leandra’s brother, Kristopher (Jaime Peterson) Dougherty, Sartell, MN.
Visitation: Monday, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Florence North
Florence Inez Brendemuhl was born Oct. 11, 1922, at Sabin, MN, the daughter of Chris and Agnes (Krabbenhoft) Brendemuhl. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sabin. She graduated from Moorhead (MN) State Campus High School in 1940. Following graduation, she worked as a waitress at the Blue Bird Coffee Shop in Moorhead. During this time, she met Robert North, who was a young Army cadet from California, in officer candidate school at Moorhead State University.
Florence and Robert where married on February 28, 1945. To this marriage, one son, Robert Jr., was born.
Florence and Bob North lived in Los Angeles, CA, for a number of years, during which, Bob was employed as an artist for the Walt Disney Corporation and Universal Studios. In about 1955, following Bob’s death from cancer, Florence and their son, Robert, Jr., moved back to Sabin. Florence was employed by Shotwell Ready to Wear in Fargo, ND, for more than twenty years.
In February of 1985, Florence moved to Sharpview in Moorhead, and in July of 1995, she moved to Eventide, first in the Living Center and later in the Lutheran Home, where Florence died on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the age of 82.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents, Chris and Agnes Brendemuhl, and her brother, Leland “Bud” Brendemuhl.
Florence is survived by a son, Robert; two sisters, Fern Wilson of Torrance, CA, and Dixie (Ron) Jackson, Moorhead; a sister-in-law, Elouise Brendemuhl, Moorhead; and several nieces and nephews in California and Minnesota.
“God rest the soul of this courageous little woman and give her peace.”
