Lawrence "Peanuts" Koenig
Lawrence “Peanuts” Koenig was born October 4, 1906, in Canby, MN, to Frank and Emma Koenig and was raised in that area. The family moved to a farm south of Moorhead, MN, in 1918.
Peanuts was married to Louise Biewer October 10, 1939, in Moorhead. They moved into Moorhead in 1943 and he began working for the Northern Pacific Railway. He retired in 1961 and they continued to make their home in Moorhead. Louise died June 12, 1994, and Peanuts moved to Apple Valley, MN. Peanuts passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2005, in Ebenezer Ridges Care Center, in Burnsville, MN, at ninety-nine years of age.
Peanuts is survived by two sons, Donald (Diane), Apple Valley, and Gerald, Minneapolis, MN; a daughter, Doris (Larry) Whitcomb, Maplewood, MN; six grandchildren, Melissa (Troy) Mathwig, Minneapolis, Nicholaus (Allison) Koenig, Richfield, MN, Sarah Koenig, Madison, WI, Chantel (Derek) Larson, Maplewood, Shawn Whitcomb, Denver, CO, and Corey (Lily) Whitcomb, Singapore; nine great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Alyssa, Gabriel, Zacharia, Hunter, Jake, Summer, Ellie, and Brendon; sisters, Alvina Boder, Duluth, MN, Margaret (Sonny) Ehlke, Enumclaw, WA, and Marcella Folden, Hawley, MN; brother, Raymond (Nora), Osseo, MN; sister-in-law Cathaleen Koenig, Moorhead; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Peanuts was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Frank; Louise, his beloved wife of fifty-five years; his brothers, Victor, Paul, and Francis; and his sisters, Tillie, Bernice, Loretta, and Viola.
Visitation for Peanuts will be Sunday, December 11, 2005, from 3 - 6 PM, with a prayer service at 5 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral mass will be Monday, December 12, 2005, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
Dorothy Kjos
Dorothy Eleanor Hoefer, the daughter of Alfred and Florence Hoefer, was born August 22, 1915, in Lampman, Saskatchewan, Canada. She grew up and received her education in Canada. On October 18, 1931, Dorothy was united in marriage to Martin Kjos at Glen Ewen, Sask., Canada. After their marriage they made their home in Sherwood, ND, where they raised a family of nine children.
Her husband, Martin, died on Dec. 1, 1976. In 1978, Dorothy moved to Moorhead, MN, to live with her daughter, Marilyn Bristol. Dorothy was an active volunteer at the Moorhead Thrift Store for many years.
In 1999, Dorothy became a resident of Elim Pioneer House in Fargo, ND. In November of 2003, she moved over to Elim Care Center in Fargo, where she died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005, at the age of 89.
In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, three sons, Donald, Edward and Mark; three brothers and one sister.
Dorothy is survived by six children, Eleanor Harris, Westland, Michigan, Marilyn Bristol, Moorhead, Robert (Mavis) Kjos, Fargo, Monte (Nola) Kjos, Fargo, Terry (MaryLou) Kjos, Garland, Texas, and Star (Gary) Tarason, Minot, ND; a daughter-in-law, Jane Kjos; a sister, Phyllis Dickau; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, in Elim Chapel

Merle Kirkhorn
Merle Alden Richard Kirkhorn was born June 4, 1926, to Morris and Cordella (Hendrickson) Kirkhorn in rural Rustad, MN, where he grew up. He received his education at Comstock (MN) High School.
Merle worked on the family farm until joining the National Guard. On November 12, 1952, Merle married Beverly Ann Eva Gess in Moorhead, MN, and they made their home in rural Rustad. In 1956, they moved to Comstock and Merle continued to farm and he also worked at American Crystal Sugar Co., Moorhead, for a period of time.
Merle then began working for the Clay County Highway Department. He work in road maintenance for 17 years, retiring in 1990.
Merle died in his home on Sunday, February 20, 2005, at the age of seventy-eight.
Merle loved to play cards and dice. He enjoyed camping and spending time at Spirit Lake. He also loved to socialize and visit with friends.
Merle is survived by his wife, Beverly, Comstock; a son, Wayne Kirkhorn, Moorhead; three daughters, Gayle (Steve) Knudson, Great Falls, MT, Karen (Craig) Krabbenhoft, Fargo, ND, and Janeen (Mike) Langowski, Coon Rapids, MN; six grandchildren, Adam, Jacob, Alysse, Kayla, Megan and Laurin; and one brother, Ronald (Carol) Kirkhorn, Sabin, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Irene K. Kamletz
On September 20, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer, Irene Kamletz joined her Savior in Heaven.
Irene was born August 31, 1939 to Lester and Leona Pingree of Georgetown, MN. After graduating from Moorhead High School, she moved to Sioux City, IA, where she married Don Shepherd. They had one daughter, Kim. Irene and her daughter returned to this area shortly after.
Irene spent many years in the restaurant business as waitress and owner. She loved visiting with the people she met there.
In 1981, she wed Harry Kamletz of Fargo, ND. They had five short, but very happy years together before Harry died, in 1986, of cancer.
Irene was active in her church, enjoyed building dollhouses and listening to music, and most of all loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jessica, David, Ruth, Elizabeth, and Joshua.
She is survived by her daughter Kim (Robert) Gilbertson of Barnesville, MN.; a brother, Donald (Kathy) Pingree, Georgetown, MN; two sisters, Barb Armstrong, Fargo, and Sharon Pingree, Winsted, MN.; five grandchildren, Jessica, David, Ruth, Elizabeth and Joshua Gilbertson, Barnesville; three nieces, Nancy Armstrong, Dallas, TX; Sheila (Steve) Anonsen, Fargo; Colleen (Dave) Gripentrog, Breckenridge, MN; and two nephews, Jim (Melody) Armstrong, Georgia, and Terry Armstrong, Fargo.
Visitation for Irene will be Friday, Sept. 23, 2005, from 6 - 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her funeral will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, at 2:30 PM, in First Congregational United Church of Christ, Fargo. Burial will follow in Kirkebo Lutheran Cemetery, Perley, MN.
Herbert L. Johnson
Herbert L. Johnson, 86, of Medford, WI, formerly of Moorhead, MN, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Country Gardens Assisted Living Center, in Medford.
Herbert Lennart Johnson was born August 3, 1918, to Emil and Esther (Lindberg) Johnson, in Bridgeport, CT. Herbert was raised in Stratford, CT, where he graduated from high school. He attended Connecticut Trade School before entering the US Army on March 21, 1941. Herbert served in the 102nd Infantry and saw action in Guadalcanal, New Zealand and New Caledonia, traveling 24, 508 miles by sea before his discharge from the service.
He attended Bethel College in St. Paul, MN, from 1946 to 1948, where he met Elizabeth “Betty” Lindblom. They were united in marriage in Fergus Falls, MN, on August 13, 1948. They moved to Moorhead in 1950 where he worked as a salesman. Herb worked at Branick Manufacturing of Fargo, ND, for more than thirty years. He began as Parts Manager but was promoted to the position of Quality Control. He retired on September 1, 1983 and they continued to make their home in Moorhead. Betty died November 25, 2001.
Herb was a member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fargo and was a charter member of Moorhead Baptist Church. His other interests included hunting and fishing. Because Herb was interested in family history, he traveled to Sweden where he visited family and further investigated his family history.
Herb’s family wishes to extend a special thanks to all his caregivers and staff at Country Gardens Assisted Living Center in Medford. Their personal care and attention to Herb and his family is gratefully recognized and appreciated.
Surviving Herbert is his four children: Lynn (Bruce) Quernemoen, McKinney, TX, H. Brent (Diane) Johnson, Ogema, WI, Eugene Johnson, Grand Forks, ND, and Kay Johnson, Greenfield, WI; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Warren (Beverly) Lindblom, Overland Park, KS.
In addition to his wife and parents, one brother preceded Herbert in death.

Funeral: Tuesday, February 15, 2005; 11 AM, in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo.

Myrtle C. Johnson
Myrtle C. Johnson, 89, of Glyndon, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at Sunnyside Care Center, rural Lake Park, MN.
Myrtle Christine Versdahl, daughter of Herman and Anna (Ekre) Versdahl, was born August 28, 1916, in rural Wyndmere, ND, where she grew up and received her education. After working for a few years at the Sears and Robuck Store in Fargo, ND, she was united in marriage to Lloyd Johnson on July 14, 1940, in Fargo.
The couple began farming near Enderlin, ND, and later bought a farm near Walcott, ND. In 1960 they purchased a dairy farm near Glyndon. They retired in 1976, and Myrtle continued to tend her garden, husband, children, and grandchildren. After her husband, Lloyd, died in 1996, she moved to the Sunnyside Care Center.
Myrtle is survived by her three sons, Larry (Janet), Kensington, MD, Lynn, Washington D C and Walter, Las Vegas, NV: one brother, Oscar (Ruth) Versdahl, Wahpeton, ND; one sister, Helen (Wally) Charlson, Belle Fourche, SD; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lloyd, Myrtle was preceded in death by one daughter, Marian Ahles.

Ed Jensen
A memorial service for Ed H. Jensen of Moorhead, MN, will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2005, at 1:00 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead.
Ed, known to his friends as “the jackhammer” was a truck driver who drove for Valley Dispatch. He died on February 22, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN, at the age of 74. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine “Dolly” Jensen.
