LaVern Bacon

LaVern F. Bacon, the 11th child of Frank and Viota Bacon, was born September 26, 1925, in LeRoy, Minnesota. He grew up and received his education in the Spring Valley, MN, area.

During World War II, Vern served his country in the US Navy. He served aboard the battleship, USS New Jersey, in the Pacific Theatre of War.

On June 15, 1946, Vern was married to Connie O’Byrne, at Spring Valley. They lived in Spring Valley until 1967, when they moved to Champlin, MN. In 1973, they moved to Fargo, ND. Vern served as manager of the Amoco Oil Company pipeline terminal in Moorhead, MN. He retired in 1988.

His wife, Connie, died in 1990. Vern continued to live in the Fargo-Moorhead area until August of 1999, when he became a resident of Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN.

Vern died at Sunnyside Care Center on Thursday, February 3, 2005, at the age of 79. In addition to his wife, Vern was preceded in death by his parents, nine brothers, and three sisters.

Vern is survived by a son, Thomas (Diane Wright) Bacon, Mesa, AZ; three daughters, Pamela (Gordon) Schroeder, LaGrange, Texas, Deanna King, Luverne, ND, and Brenda (Paul) Jacob, Gillette, Wyoming; three sisters, Frances Bacon, LaVonne Walters, and Evelyn Strain, all of Rochester, MN; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Sunday, 4 PM to 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour prior to the funeral, at the church

Funeral: Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at 2 PM, Brookdale Baptist Church, Moorhead

Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Fargo

Helen M. Arnseth

Helen M. Arnseth, age 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Helen Mirion Geiger was born on January 11, 1918 in Fargo, North Dakota. She grew up and received her education in Fargo, and in Moorhead, where she graduated from high school. On June 4, 1938, Helen married Norman Arnseth. They lived in Moorhead, and Helen worked at Deimert’s Tavern.

In the mid 1960’s Helen moved to Williston, ND, where she worked as a cook, and at a local motel. In 1972, she returned to Fargo, where she lived until moving to Fairmont East in Moorhead in 2000. In July of 2001, Helen became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Karen (Richard) Evanson, Moorhead; her son, Roger (Mary) Arnseth, Moorhead; thirteen grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Monday, the hour prior to the funeral.

Funeral service: Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at 2:00 PM, Bottolfson Chapel, Eventide Lutheran Home Moorhead, MN.

Burial: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.

Carol L. Andres

Carol L. Andres, 67, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, in Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis, MN.

Carol Louise Thoma was born January 13, 1938, to Louis R. and Agnes E. (Muehlbauer) Thoma, in Little Falls, MN, where she grew up and graduated from high school.

On August 7, 1956, Carol married Richard G. Andres in Little Falls where they made their home. Carol and Richard moved to Alliance, Ohio and Warren, Indiana. They eventually returned to Little Falls where Carol worked as a nurse’s aid at St. Otto’s Care Center

In 1969, they moved to Moorhead and Carol worked at St. Ansgar Hospital as a nurse’s aid and ward clerk. Carol then worked as a caregiver for CCRI, Moorhead, until her retirement in 2003.

On July 9, 2002, Richard died and Carol continued to make her home in Moorhead.

Carol enjoyed spending time with family, especially at “the nest”, the family lake home. She loved flowers and plants. She frequently played Bingo and took trips with her siblings. One of her greatest joys in the recent year was taking care of her cat, Marsh.

Carol is survived by a son, Richard, Moorhead; four daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Bruggeman and Karen (Terry) Bruggeman, both of West Fargo, ND, Renee (Mark) Visser, Ada, MN, and Janice Andres, Mankato, MN; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Shawn, and David Visser, and Justin, Ashley, Nick, and Cassandra Bruggeman; three brothers, Ted (Fran) Thoma, Montana, Gerald (Lorraine) Thoma, Swanville, MN, and Eugene Thoma, Harris, MN; three sisters, Mary (Dick) Becker, Browersville, MN, Bernice (Leo) Posch, Bowlus, MN, and Christine (Robert) Kolling, Rochester, MN.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Fred Thoma, and one sister, Suzanne Fischer.

Visitation for Carol will take place on Friday (July 1, 2005) from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 11 AM in St. Frances de Sales.

Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.

Gale E. Anderson

Gale E. Anderson, age 78, died peacefully Sunday, August 14, 2005, in his home in Dilworth, MN. He was under the loving care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, whom the family wishes to gratefully thank for their excellent loving care.

Gale Eldon Anderson, the son of Albin E. and Mildred (Leroy) Anderson, was born July 5, 1927, in Killdeer, ND. The family moved to Wadena, MN, and later to Staples, MN, where Gale grew up and received his education.

In January of 1946, Gale entered the US Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged in May of 1947. After his discharge, he returned to Staples and worked in a gas station.

On June 14, 1950, Gale was united in marriage to Delores Dickman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Staples, where they made their home. While in Staples, Gale worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad.

In 1958, the family moved to Dilworth, where they have lived since. Gale worked as a bricklayer on the construction of St. Ansgar Hospital in Moorhead, MN. He worked at FM Asphalt Inc. for 23 years and from 1974 until 1987, he and his wife owned and operated the Tastee Freez on 8th Street in Moorhead.

After selling the Tastee Freez, Gale was semi-retired, but continued to work for local farmers and as a partner with his sons, “The Garage Guys”. For the last 22 years, Gale and Delores have wintered in Texas.

Gale was a man of strong Christian faith, and deeply loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Delores, Dilworth; three sons, Gary (Barbara), Fargo, Greg (Julie), Moorhead, and Gene (Stefanie), Fargo; two sisters, Agnes Rychner, Staples, and Dorothy Buberl, Stillwater, MN; and seven grandchildren, Alan and April, Ben and Michelle, and Zachary, Katelyn and Courtney.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Delbert, who was killed in combat in Europe during WW II.

Visitation: Tuesday, from 5 PM to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral: Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005, at 1:30 PM Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth with burial in Felton City Cemetery, Felton, MN.

Richard Anderson

Richard “Dick” Duane Anderson was born July 2, 1942, to George and Julia (Peterson) Anderson in Moorhead, MN, where he grew up and graduated from high school. After high school, Dick joined the Air Force. Upon his return to the Moorhead area he worked for WestCo and then for the Fairmont Creamery as a delivery driver.

On April 24, 1965, Dick married Lenora Gray in Downer, MN, and they made their home there. Dick worked for F-M Vending as well as various other businesses in the F-M area until his retirement in 2004. Lenora died on September 1, 1985, and Dick continued to make his home in Downer.

Dick died Saturday, October 22, 2005, in MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo, ND, at the age of 63.

Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to visit with company. He was a proud grandpa and great-grandpa. Dick was also a member of the American Legion, Barnesville, MN.

Dick is survived by three sons, Brad (Jayne), Mark (MaryLou), and Kelly (Becky); a daughter, Tammy (Steve) Cusey; four grandchildren, Brandon (Connie), Ryan (Amy), Jason and Marissa; one great-grandchild, Ethan; one, stepgrandchild, Samantha; and two step-greatgrandchildren, Aaron and April.

Visitation: one hour prior to the service

Funeral Service: 10 AM on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN

Interment: Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead

Wayne L. Allen

Wayne Lawrence Allen, the son of Hilmer and Viola Allen, was born at Crookston, MN, on July 29, 1931. He grew up and received his education in the Fertile-Beltrami, MN, area, where he graduated from high school. He attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, for two years.

Wayne served his country in the US Army. After his discharge he attended and graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo.

On August 10, 1957, Wayne was united in marriage to Doris Johnson, in Fargo, where they made their home. Wayne worked for American Life Insurance Company in Fargo. In 1988, Wayne and Doris moved to Urbandale, Iowa, and Wayne continued to work for American Life in their Des Moines, Iowa, office. In 1991, Wayne retired as executive vice president of American Life Insurance Company. He later owned and operated a Mail Box Store, until he fully retired in July of 1999.

Since February of 2000, Wayne and Doris have spent winters in Mesa, AZ, where Wayne could continue to enjoy the game of golf. Wayne died at his home in Mesa on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the age of 73.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; a son, Brent (Sue) Allen, and their children, Ryan and Rachelle, of Fargo; two daughters, Diane (Dean) Jensen of Frisco, Texas and Amy (Kelly) Schneider, and their daughter, Madison, of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Joyce Woidtke, Roseau, MN; along with a host of relatives from Crookston, MN

Visitation: Wednesday, from 5:30 PM until 8:00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.

Funeral service: Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 10:30 AM, in Bethel Evangelical Free Church, Fargo, North Dakota.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND.
