Margaret Larson
Margaret I. Larson, age 92, died on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Bethany Homes in Fargo, ND.
Margaret Irene Larson was born at Perley, MN, on June 14, 1911. She grew up and received her education in the Perley-Hendrum, MN, area. She later attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.
Margaret taught school for two years in Lancaster, MN. She lived in Minneapolis, MN, where she worked as a bookkeeper at the Atwood Larson Company. She later returned to Moorhead, where she worked for Minneapolis Moline in their Fargo office for 17 years, and for A & T Supply Company in Moorhead. Margaret retired in 1976.
Following retirement, she continued to live in Moorhead. In May of 1998, Margaret became a resident of Bethany Homes in Fargo, where she had lived since.
She is survived by a nephew, Darrell (Victoria) Johnson of Stillwater, MN.
Memorial service: Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003, at 11 AM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
William Johnson
William E. “Billy” Johnson, age 54, of Fargo, ND, died in rural Glyndon, MN, on Wednesday, Dec. 3. 2003.
William Earl Johnson, known as Billy, was born on September 21, 1949, in Moorhead, MN. He was the son of Stanley and Vi (Dankert) Johnson. Billy grew up in Glascow, Montana, where he received his education.
In 1966, Billy returned to the Fargo-Moorhead area. He worked as an over-the-road truck driver and was a member of the North Dakota Army National Guard.
On April 3, 1976, Billy married Diane Kramer in Fargo. They made their home in Fargo, and Billy continued to work as a truck driver. He was currently driving for Strata Corp., which is a local sand and gravel company.
Billy is survived by his wife, Diane, Fargo; a son, Stanley, Fargo; two daughters, Roberta (Josh) Olson and Nicole (Shannon) Fiedler, both Fargo; a grandson, Zach Olson; two brothers, Clifford and Timothy; and two sisters, Carol (ElRay) West and Karen Johnson, both Seattle, WA.
Visitation: Sunday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral, at the church.
Funeral service: Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at 10:30 AM First Assembly of God, Fargo, ND.
Burial: Argusville Cemetery, Argusville, ND.
Alfred Holweger
Alfred L. Holweger, 72, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, September 6, 2003, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Alfred Lyle Holweger, the son of Fred and Lena Holweger, was born November 24, 1930, in Emerado, ND, where he grew up and attended school. For years, Alfred was a diesel mechanic employed by E. E. Hurner and then Cossette Trucking, both of Fargo, ND. In 1992 he retired from Fargo Freightliner, also of Fargo.
On March 21, 1969, Alfred married Katherine (Aamodt) Aaser in Moorhead. Alfred was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Moorhead. He enjoyed spending time at the self-made lake home on Lake Lida, a good game of pinochle, as well as hunting and fishing.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, four brothers, stepson, Roger Aaser; grandson, Roger Aaser Jr.; and stepdaughter-in-law, Janet Aaser. He is survived by his wife, Katherine of Moorhead; sons, Mark (Janice) Holweger, Walcott, ND, and Wayne (Laurie) Holweger, Aberdeen, SD; daughters, Claudette (Gary) Grandbois, Fargo, and Kristi (Ronald) Johnson, Alexandria, MN; stepsons, Richard Aaser, Mandan, ND, Steven (Brenda) Aaser, League City, TX, and Scott (Carey) Aaser, Iron, MN; brothers, Donald (Glenna) Holweger, East Grand Forks, MN, Milton Holweger, Grand Forks, ND, and Wilmer (Darlene) Holweger, Chattaroy, WA; and a sister, Clara (Henry) Taylor, Newport, WA; 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Alfred’s funeral service is scheduled for Tuesday, (9/9/03), at 1:30 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead. Visitation is planned for Monday, (9/8/03), from 4pm to 8pm with a public prayer service at 7 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial will be at Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley, 1701 38th Street SW, Suite 201, Fargo, ND 58103-4499 to benefit the wonderful service they provide. Alfred’s family would also like to extend a special note of thanks and appreciation to the special, caring Hospice staff.
Edward Hohnadel
Edward J. Hohnadel was born October 14, 1912, to John and Annie Hohnadel, in rural Georgetown, MN. Edward married Mary Evelyn Stasch, October 23, 1940, in Georgetown, where they lived and farmed with his brothers. Mary died July 9, 1999, and Edward moved from the farm to Moorhead Healthcare Center that year. Edward died Saturday, October 4, 2003, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND, at ninety years of age.
Edward is survived by his son, Edward (Shelby) Hohnadel, Thornton, CO; two grandsons, Greg (Sonia) Hohnadel, Moorhead, and Kevin Hohnadel, Georgetown; one granddaughter, Stacey Hohnadel, Springfield, OR; five great-granddaughters, Adrienne and Shantelle Hohnadel, and their mother, Sandra of Fargo, Vanessa and Alexis Yzaguirre, Moorhead, and Trista Hohnadel, Springfield; a brother-in-law, John Stasch, Georgetown; and close family friends, Bob and Muriel Dacar, Elgin, ND.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents; four sisters; three brothers, and a great great grandson, Santiago Angel Torres.
Visitation for Edward will be Tuesday, October 7, 2003, from 5 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at 10 AM, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Georgetown. Edward will be buried next to his wife, Mary, in Wild Rose Cemetery, Georgetown.
Norma Hoglin
Norma Evelyn Moritz was born August 20, 1918, to Henry and Alma (Swanson) Moritz, in Kennedy, MN, where she was raised. Norma attended cosmetology school in Minneapolis in 1937. Norma was married to Helmer Hoglin, June 15, 1940, in Warren, MN, and they lived in Lancaster, MN, Thief River Falls, MN, and Wahpeton, ND, before moving to Fargo, ND, in 1966. Norma furthered her cosmetology studies when they lived in Thief River Falls and that enabled her to teach cosmetology at Roberts Hairstyling in Fargo for six years. Helmer died October 25, 1978, and Norma remained in Fargo until moving to Brainerd, MN, in 1997, where she died Thursday, September 25, 2003, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village, at eighty-five years of age.
Norma is lovingly survived by a son, Gary Hoglin and his wife, Diane, of Baxter, MN; a daughter, Linda Knight and her husband, William, of St. George, UT; two sponsored sons, Murphy Yi of Las Vegas, NV, and Kevin Yi of Oxnard, CA; four grandchildren, James and Tim Hoglin, and Karen McConnell and Angie Knight; and a sister, Jean Somers and her husband, Perry, of Maple Grove, MN.
Visitation for Norma will be Monday, September 29, 2003, from 6 - 8 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The funeral will be Tuesday, September 30, 2003, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
Marie Hammerud
Marie H. Hammerud, 79, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, in her home.
Marie H. Hasskamp was born July 15, 1924, in Crosby, MN, to William and Hannah (Wiger) Hasskamp. The family moved to the Ulen, MN, area where she graduated from high school. Marie graduated from college in Moorhead, and she taught in the Comstock, MN, school district for twenty-eight years. On June 11, 1945, Marie married Earl Hammerud in Comstock where they made their home. They moved to Moorhead in 1986 and Earl died June 5, 2002.
Marie is survived by a number of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Harry and a sister, Grace.

J. Paul Gunkelman
J. Paul Gunkelman, 81, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.
James Paul Gunkelman was born on March 2, 1922, to Ada (Lockhart) and Ralph Frank Gunkelman, in Fargo. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1940. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years. When the war started, he came home to help run the family business. He managed the R.F. Gunkelman and Sons elevators in Grandin, ND. He married Inez Hanson from Litchville, ND, on June 30, 1946. They made their home in Grandin until 1972. They moved to Fargo, where he established Agra By Products and later Dakota Quality Bird Seed.
Paul was very active in the Grandin community where he served as a volunteer fireman, school board member, and clerk of the city. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Masons in Hillsboro and El Zagal Temple of the Shrine in Fargo. He also served on many committees in the agricultural field. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fargo and while living in Grandin, the First Presbyterian Church.
What was most important to Paul was his family. He enjoyed summers at Floyd Lake, MN, gardening, playing bridge with friends, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his devoted wife, Inez; his six children, Ginny (Tim) Wheeler, Burnsville, MN, Jim (Julie), Kindred, ND, Susan (Bernie) Zimmerman, Albert Lea, MN, Julie (Larry) Leitner, Fargo, Lee (Tracy), Fargo, and Bob (Liz), Glenwood, IA; and fifteen grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Tod (Do), Tom, and Dorothy (Wayne) Gustafson.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Steven; his parents, Ada and R.F. Gunkelman; siblings, Lloyd, Robert, John, Alice, and Betty.
The family requests that memorials be given to the First Baptist Church, Fargo, and Hospice.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 5:00 - 7:00 PM, at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, with a prayer service at 7:00
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Fargo.
Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
Ruth Geraghty
Ruth V. Heggeness was born November 14, 1927, in Detroit Lakes, MN, the youngest daughter of Ole and Vera (Pearsson) Heggeness. Ruth graduated from Moorhead High School and she attended Moorhead State Teachers College where she was a member of Pi Mui Phi Sorority. Ruth married Darrell D. Geraghty April 14, 1950, in Moorhead, where they made their home until they moved to Fargo, ND, in 1979. Ruth worked in the Moorhead Public School System for twenty-three years and retired as administrative secretary to the superintendent of schools. Ruth died Wednesday, October 8, 2003, surrounded by her family, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, at seventy-five years of age.
Ruth is lovingly survived by her six children, Ginger (Tim) Lenzmeier, Pueblo, CO, Dan (Pat) Geraghty, Moorhead, Jeff Geraghty, Brooklyn Park, MN, Susie Geraghty, Fargo, Tom (Michelle) Geraghty, Moorhead and Jill (Gary) Lindemoen, Fargo; a sister, Lorrain Rothe, Minneapolis, MN; sixteen grandchildren, Scott (Becky), Brian (Sandra) and Craig (Krista) Lenzmeier, Tony (Tessa) and Jessica Geraghty, Adam and Jay Geraghty, Ben and Katie Boatz, Megan, Shane, Nickolas and Jacob Geraghty, and Brenna, Alexa and Marissa Lindemoen; and five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Joshua, Nicolle, Danielle, and Owen Lenzmeier.
Visitation for Ruth was Friday, October 10, 2003, from 6 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM, in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Her funeral will be Saturday, October 11, 2003, at 3:30 PM, in Olivet Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
Clara Geiszler
Clara Geiszler, 70, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, September 7, 2003, in MeritCare, Fargo, ND.
Clara Joan Geiszler was born July 8, 1933, in Moorhead, MN, to John and Esther (Hahn) Leonhardt. Clara graduated from Glyndon (MN) High School. On June 9, 1956, she married Alvin B. Geiszler on her parents farm in Glyndon. Clara and Alvin made their home in Moorhead where she worked at St. Ansgar Hospital and Camelot Cleaners, both in Moorhead.
Clara is survived by her husband, Alvin, Moorhead; two sons, Dennis (Janet), Moorhead, and Ken, West Fargo, ND; three daughters, Shirley O’Hearn, LaCrosse, WI, Cindy (Mark) Charlton, Moorhead, and Janet (Mike) Mosbrucker, Moorhead; two brothers, Charles Leonhardt, Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Fred (Linda) Leonhardt, Osage, MN; two sisters, Ethel Bohnak and Carol (Jerome) Fjelstad, Kindred, ND; and eight grandchildren.
