Robert Volochenko
Robert “Bob” Dean Volochenko, 48, Moorhead, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, in his home.
Bob was born on July 13, 1955, to Henry and La Donna Volochenko in Minot, ND. As a small child, Bob moved with his family to Moorhead where he attended school, graduating from Moorhead High School in 1972. He then attended Moorhead Technical College receiving a degree in Construction Electricity in 1974. In 1975 Bob joined the Electrical Workers Local #1426 and started his journey as an electrician working with various local electrical contractors.
Bob was united in marriage to Alice M. Wendell of Dilworth, MN, on November 19, 1976. The couple made their home in Moorhead. In 1984 Bob began working for Brandt Electric out of Olivia, MN. During this time, Bob served as a journeyman electrician and foreman on a number of Brandt Electric projects, including the Beltrami County Jail, Beltrami, MN, 3M Plant in Brookings, SD, Moorhead Wastewater Treatment Facility, and the Fergus Falls Wastewater Treatment Facility, Fergus Falls, MN. Illness forced Bob’s retirement in 1995.
Bob loved fishing, woodworking, motorcycle riding, working on cars, and spending time with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, Alice, Moorhead; one daughter, Kari Ann (Jamie) Abner, Fargo; one son, Michael, Moorhead; two granddaughters, Ashleigh and Aleigha Abner; his parents, Henry and La Donna, Moorhead; three brothers, Steve, Balfour, ND, Ron (Lori), Winter Haven, FL, and Paul, Silvis, IL; two sisters, Kathy (Dave) Prouty, Mantorville, MN, and Mary Kay Volochenko, Moorhead; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Mavis Falk
Mavis A. Falk, 72, Moorhead, MN, died Monday, December 15, 2003, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mavis Adela Rhodes was born December 12, 1931, to Elmer and Cleo (Brandt) Rhodes, in Lawton, ND, where she was raised and graduated from high school. She then graduated from Mayville (ND) State Teachers College.
On August 9, 1957, Mavis married Iven G. Falk, in Lawton, and they made their home in Moorhead. Mavis taught in the Fargo and Moorhead school systems for over forty-five years with an emphasis on learning disabilities. Iven died November 24, 2002, and Mavis continued to make her home in Moorhead.
Mavis is survived by her three sons, J. Scott and Gregory Falk, both Moorhead, and Rodney Falk, Ottertail, MN; four grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne Magnuson, Bremerton, WA.

Donald Clukey
Donald Joseph Clukey, the son of Irvin and Eleanora (LaChapelle) Clukey, was born February 13, 1934, at White Earth, MN. He grew up and received his education in the White Earth-Waubun, MN, area.
On Feb. 3, 1954, Donald was united in marriage to Genevieve Sloan, at White Earth. They lived in White Earth and later in Detroit Lakes, MN. Donald worked in construction, at Armour Company, a meat processing plant in West Fargo, ND, and as a mechanic at Freeberg & Welle, the International Harvester dealership in Detroit Lakes.
In 1965 the family moved to Moorhead, MN. Donald worked at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center from 1965 until injury forced his early retirement in 1973.
Don and Gen spent winters in Mount Dora, Florida. Don was an avid fisherman.
Donald Clukey died on Friday, December 19, 2003, at the age of 69, at the Moorhead Healthcare Center. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Donalyn.
Donald is survived by his wife, Genevieve, Moorhead; two daughters, Joy Olson, Dilworth, MN, and Karen (Bruce) Gravalin, Nevis, MN; two sons, David (Marsha) Clukey, Nevis, and Terry (Silvia) Clukey, Moorhead; two sisters, Darlene Priem, Fargo, ND, and Doris Zurn, Crystal, MN; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Deanne Johnson
Deanne Jean Bassingthwaite was born October 6, 1959, in Sioux City, Iowa, to David and Jeanne (Wall) Bassingthwaite. She was raised in Sarles, ND, and attended Border Central High School in Sarles. She graduated from North Dakota State University, Fargo, ND, in 1985 with a bachelor of science in Agronomy.
On July 24, 1982, Deanne married David G. Johnson, son of Gordon and Marge Johnson, in Fargo, ND, where they made their home. Deanne enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and reading. She was a Girl Scout leader, a tutor, and did professional sewing out of her home. Deanne died Friday, October 31, 2003, at the age of 44, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.
She is survived by her husband, David, Fargo; a son, Devin and a daughter, Desiree, both of Fargo; her parents, David and Jeanne Bassingthwaite, Apache Junction, AZ; a brother, Scott (Penne) Bassingthwaite, Grand Forks, ND; a sister, Kathy Jo (Brian) Carlton, Stafford, VA; two nieces and ten nephews.

Hjalmer Houglum
Hjalmer Clarence “Chub” Houglum was born June 25, 1921, in Perley, MN, to Bendick and Clara Houglum. He graduated from Borup (MN) High School in 1940. He farmed with his brother, Bennett, at Perley.
Hjalmer married Joyce Kathleen Gravalin at Bethania Lutheran Church in Perley, December 30, 1950. They lived in Perley until 1952 when they moved to Moorhead, MN, where he worked for Crystal Sugar, Fairmont Creamery and Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1956 he started with Federal Mogul Corp., later becoming manager. In 1969 he became custodian at Moorhead Senior High School. In 1984 he transferred to George Washington School in North Moorhead, retiring in 1986. Hjalmer died Sunday August 17, 2003, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo, ND, at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Arnold, Bennett, and Ernest.
Hjalmer is survived by his wife, Joyce; daughter, Sharon (Glen) Pedersen, Harwood, ND; son, Steven, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Kathryn, William, and Thomas Pedersen; great-granddaughter, Adrianna Pedersen, all Harwood; two sisters, Gertrude Aubrey, Moorhead, and Corrine Johnson, Huntington Beach, CA; two sisters-in–law, Dorothy Houglum, Perley, and Elaine Houglum, Moorhead; eight nieces and two nephews.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and talking to people. He loved spending time with friends and family, going to Rollag Steam Threshers Reunion every year and watching Moorhead Spuds play hockey, football and basketball.

Evelyn Huard
Evelyn M. Huard, age 85, of Moorhead, Minnesota, died on Wednesday, October 1, 2003, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Evelyn Muriel Gullickson, daughter of Oscar and Bertha (Torpet) Gullickson, was born February 27, 1918, at Fertile, MN, where she grew up and received her education. She graduated from Fertile High School in 1936. She attended beauty school in Grand Forks, ND, and worked at a beauty shop in East Grand Forks, MN. The beauty shop was operated by a Japanese American family, who was interned in California, after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and Evelyn never heard from them again.
On October 3, 1945, Evelyn married Hector Huard, at Fertile. They lived in Grand Forks for five years and then moved to Detroit Lakes, MN. In Detroit Lakes, she worked at Rossman Elementary School for 25 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an award-winning bowler. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. One of the highlights in her life was traveling with family to Norway to visit relatives she had never met.
In April of 2002, Evelyn became a resident of the Moorhead Healthcare Center in Moorhead. In the summer of 2002, she became a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Hector, Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Randi (Kent) Weisser, Moorhead, and Peggy Hanson, Bemidji, MN; a son, Richard Huard, Baldwin, WI; and two granddaughters, Rachel and Whitney Weisser, of whom Evelyn was so proud.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, a brorher, Ervin Gullickson, and her sister-in-law, Gertie Gullickson

Phyllis Twohig
Phyllis V. Twohig, 84, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003, in Moorhead HealthCare Center, Moorhead.
Phyllis Victoria Olson was born November 2, 1918, in Halstad Village, MN. She grew up and received her education in the area. On December 1, 1956, Phyllis married James Twohig in Breckenridge, MN, where they made their home. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge before moving to Alexandria, MN, where she worked at Douglas County Hospital. On June 25, 1988, James died. Phyllis became a resident of Moorhead HealthCare Center in June of this year.
Phyllis is survived by three sisters, Marjorie Nealy, Fargo, ND, Maxine Uhlich, Mohall, ND, and Ardis Priddy, Deerfield, WI; two brothers, Donald (Lola) Freitag, Wahpeton, ND, and DeWayne (Bonnie) Freitag, New Hope, MN; and many grandchildren.
