Mary Novack
Funeral services for Mary A. Novack, 60, Coon Rapids, took place June 2 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.
Novack died in an auto accident with her husband Pat May 23, 2004. She was a member of the Coon Rapids Jaycee Women, Red Hats (Ruby's Rebels), Miss Coon Rapids Scholarship Pageant and Coon Rapids Snowflake Association.
She is survived by her sons Michael and Sean (fiancee Cheryl); grandchildren, Christopher and Miranda; sisters, Carol (Byron) Pederson and Patricia (Lyle) Nelson; brother, Nathan (Arlene) Manley; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Veda Manley.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Patrick Novack
Funeral services for Patrick M. Novack, 57, Coon Rapids, took place June 2 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Coon Rapids.
Novack died in an auto accident May 23, 2004 with his wife Mary. A Vietnam veteran and retired Minneapolis Police officer, he was a lifetime member of the VFW, member of the Coon Rapids American Legion, the Emerald Society, the Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation, the Miss America program and a U.S. Jaycee Ambassador.
He is survived by his sons Michael and Sean (fiancee Cheryl); grandchildren, Christopher and Miranda; sister, Eileen (John) Wolf; brother, Jerome (Scarlett); nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Catherine; and brother, John.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Gearhart.
Douglas Roberts
Funeral services for Douglas Ernest Roberts, 80, Anoka, took place June 24 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Doug Whittlef officiated.
Roberts died June 19, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. He was born June 4, 1924 in Joliet, Ill., to Harry W. and Daisey M. (Welfare) Roberts and was a retired custodian at Hamilton Elementary School.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Joe (Sonja) Roberts, Julie Roberts, Rick (Debbie) Berg, Debbie Simons, Darlene Berg and David Berg; grandchildren, Andrew (Ellen) Roberts, Stephanie Roberts and Travis Simons; sister, Winnie Kowen; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard.
Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Mary Russell
Funeral services for Mary Alice Russell, 93, Andover, took place June 11 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Anoka. Rev. Mike Van Sloun officiated.
Russell died June 9, 2004 at her home. She was born Dec. 3, 1910 in Anoka to Henry Leo and Alice (Green) Stack. She was a former teacher in Anoka County schools.
She is survived by her son, Irwin (Linda) of Andover; daughters, Carol (Bud) Reese of Milaca, Rosella Baker of Spokane, Wash., Nancy (Dick) Lehn of Andover, Pat (Bob) Janssen of Arden Hills, Susan Huggett of Big Lake, Bette (Jerry) Frank of Andover and Gail Russell of Zimmerman; sons-in-law, Bob Gorshe and Don Baker; sister, Catherine Wredberg of Anoka; 25 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; granddaughter, Maria Reese; brothers, Jim, Leon, Gerald and John Stack; and sister, Margaret Vessely.
Pallbearers were Matt Gorshe, Russell Reese, Charles Lehn, Grady Russell, Clint Hemsworth, Dana Docken and Kyle Huggett.
Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Anoka. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Ernest Scurry Jr.
Funeral services for Ernest Scurry Jr., 75, Dayton, will take place today (Friday, June 25), 11 a.m., at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Abe Cardosa will officiate.
Scurry died June 20, 2004 at Mercy Hospital. He was born Dec. 11, 1928 in Galveston, Texas, to Ernest Sr. and Mary E. Scurry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a retired supervisor for ITT.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie; children, Ernest Scurry III, Shirley Elaine Scurry, Ronnie (Beverly) Gordon, Barbara Jackson, Felicia Clark, Daphne (Howard) Handy and Briana Scurry; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Matthew and Jerome Jackson, A.J. Bursh, Trevor and Roderick Wade and Joe Lugo. Honorary pallbearers will be L.D., Jimmy and Lonnie Wade and Robert Scurry.
Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Marilyn Stromgren
Memorial services for Marilyn Jeanette Stromgren, 73, Ham Lake, took place June 20 at Constance Evangelical Free Church. Rev. Randy Discher officiated.
Stromgren died June 17, 2004 as a result of an automobile accident. She was born Aug. 2, 1930 in Ham Lake to Carl and Marie Peterson. She was employed at Honeywell for 24 years.
She is survived by her husband, Ordean; children, Tim (Linda) of South St. Paul, Dan (Linda) of Cambridge, Lori Stromgren and fiance Chuck Maxwell of Cambridge, Vicki (Dale) Sanborn of Ham Lake; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Violet Luke of Frederic, Wis.; brother-in-law, Marvin (Kathy) Stromgren of Coon Rapids; sister-in-law, Eunice Johnson of Spring Lake, Mich.; and many other relatives and friends.
Interment was at the Soderville Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Strike Funeral Home - Isanti Chapel.
Dennis Sursely
Funeral services for Dennis Sursely, 70, Coon Rapids, took place June 16 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Sursely died June 11, 2004.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; mother, Margaret; brother, Daniel (Brenda); sister-in-law, Debra; brother-in-law, Cary (Carol) Callisto; nephews, Jeffrey and Barry; niece, Allison; and aunt, Sara.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Henry.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Carl Swenson II
Memorial services for Carl August Swenson II, 87, Otsego, formerly of Brooklyn Park, took place June 23 at Union Congregational United Church of Christ, Elk River.
Swenson died June 16, 2004 in Monticello. He was born Aug, 10, 1918, to Carl and Ray Johns Swenson and grew up in Duluth. He was an electrical and aerospace engineer for Honeywell Corporation for 42 years. He was active in many public and civic activities, including service as member and chairman of Anoka-Hennepin District 11 School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Ardelle (Rosenwald) Swenson of Otsego; children, Carl Swenson III of Crystal, John Swenson (and wife Linda) of Isanti, and Karen Swenson (and partner Paul Gilliland) of St. Paul; grandchildren, Kim, Erik and Sarah; great-grandchildren Ashley, Kayla and Ryan; and cousins from both the Johns and Swenson families.
Interment will be in Otsego Cemetery. Arrangements are through Dare's Funeral Home, Elk River.
Walter Biernat
Funeral services for Walter Leonard Biernat, 82, Columbia Heights, took place June 2 at Miller-Methven-Taylor Funeral Home, Columbia Heights. Rev. Bill Hugo officiated.
Biernat died May 28, 2004 at the St. Cloud VA. He was born Aug. 17, 1921 in Minneapolis to Stanley Biernat and Agnes Rockwell and was a retired truck driver and lifetime VFW member.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; children, Sharon (William) Schuldt, Deborah (Neil) Schuldt, Paul Biernat; grandchildren, Derek, Bill, Nicole; siblings, Ted, Stanley, Gladys Fisher, Ed, Joe; many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Walter; parents; and siblings, Frank, Adeline, Stephanie and Vi.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Methven Taylor Funeral Home, Miller Heights Chapel.
Debra Emery
Funeral services for Debra Helen 'Deb' Emery, 40, Ramsey, took place July 1 at Glen Cary Lutheran Church, Ham Lake. Rev. Paul Settergren officiated.
Emery died June 27, 2004 at Fairview University Medical Center, Minneapolis. She was born Jan. 21, 1964 in Fergus Falls to Gary Dean and Fern Lavonne (Rollag) Emery.
She is survived by her companion, Mike Ornat of Ramsey; mother, Fern Emery of Ramsey; father, Gary (Nancy) Emery of Ham Lake; siblings, Dan Fjeld, Anita (Rodney) Parenteau, Linette (Timothy) Carlson; stepsister, Jennifer Bradshaw; nieces and nephews, Alicia, Ashley, Tyler, Brandon, Quentin and Qadira; and many other relatives and friends.
Interment was at Glen Cary Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Alvin Mason
Funeral services for Alvin Allen Mason, 79, Andover, formerly of Palo Alto, Calif., took place June 25 at Zion Lutheran Church, Anoka. Rev. Timothy G. Johnson officiated.
Mason died June 21, 2004 at his home in Andover. He was born April 16, 1925 in Fresno, Calif., to Arthur Leonard and Charlotte Inez (Herman) Mason and was a retired design draftsman in the electronics industry.
Her is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, Patti Brooks, Alan Mason, Gary Mason, Marc (Nanci) Mason and Gaelyn Mason; grandchildren, Steven Brooks, Jaclyn and Elliott Mason; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Charlotte Mason; stepmother, Laura Mason; and brother, Malcolm.
Interment was at Zion Church Columbarium. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
