Alvin Schwartz
Memorial service for Alvin Schwartz, 78, Elk River, took place Oct. 6 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Schwartz died Sept. 29, 2006. He was born Sept. 24, 1928 in St. Nicholas and was a retired architect, carpenter and general contractor.
He is survived by his former wife, Lucille; children, Paul (Susan) Schwartz, Patricia (Duane) Sigrist, both of Maple Grove, Greg (Karin) Schwartz of Elk River, Christopher (Jean-Loic) Trudeao of Granby, Quebec, and John Schwartz of Robbinsdale; 13 grandchildren; and 11 brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers.
Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel.
Evelyn Vaala
Funeral service for Evelyn Virginia Vaala, 90, Andover, took place Oct. 9 at Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka. Rev. Jim Scott officiated.
Vaala died Oct. 5, 2006 at Farmstead Assisted Living, Andover. She was born July 6, 1916 in Duluth to Carl Olaf and Ida Marie (Ortegren) Nordvall. She was a retired school teacher.
She is survived by her son, Dwight (Jeanne); daughter, Janice (Walter) Jopke; grandchildren, Jonathan and Julie Vaala, Allyson (James) West and David Jopke; great-grandson, Audie West; brother, Rev. Kenneth (Ann) Nordvall; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold; and sister, Irene Porvaznik.
Interment was at Bergund Lutheran Church Cemetery, Madison. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home.
Jordan Whittet
Funeral service for Jordan E. Whittet, 23, East Bethel, took place Oct. 10 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Whittet died Oct. 7, 2006. He was born Sept. 16, 1983 and was a graduate of Centennial High School.
He is survived by his parents, Lois and Steven; brothers, Richard Johnson and Greg (Jessica) Whittet; sister, Veronica (Nick) Chial; niece, Zoey Whittet; grandparents, Margaret Sullivan, Agnes and Ken Karius, Robert and Lu Whittet; many uncles, aunts and cousins; and special friends, Ashley, Patty and Peter.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tom Sullivan; aunt, Margo; and cousin, Brian.

Ernie Benjamin
Memorial gathering for Ernie Benjamin, 80, Coon Rapids, took place Nov. 6 at Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Benjamin died Nov. 3, 2006. He was born March 16, 1926 in Cumberland, Wis., and was a retired night manager.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E.; daughters, Mary (Kristian) Hansen, Nancy (Woody) Belpedio; son, Peter (Carla) Benjamin; four grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
LaVerne Benolken
Memorial service for LaVerne Ruth Benolken, 86, Blaine, took place Nov. 10 at Constance Evangelical Free Church, Andover. Rev. Randy Discher officiated.
Benolken died Nov. 5, 2006. She was born Aug. 28, 1920 in Grey Eagle to Charles Edward and Ida Elaine Swatfager.
She is survived by her children, Kathy Clark, Ted (Tammy), Charlene Benolken and Cheryl Brescancini; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother; and one sister.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Tom Chartier
A memorial celebration of the life of Tom Chartier, 51, will take place tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 18), 12:30 p.m., at Bunker Hills Regional Park, Site 1.
Chartier died suddenly Nov. 7, 2006. He was an Eagle Scout and active in the Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his son, Joe; granddaughter, Genna; father, Gene; siblings, Denise (Greg), Gary (Karen), Jeannine (Gary), John (Darla), Janet (Jerry), Julie (Dale); many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosemary.
Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Jesse Frank
Funeral service for Jesse D. Frank, 24, Blaine, took place Nov. 11 at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Dr. John Bucka officiated.
Frank died Nov. 4, 2006 in Fridley. He was born March 18, 1982 in Robbinsdale. He was a construction laborer.
He is survived by his parents, Steven (Laureen) Frank and Sandra Frank (Cliff Romberg; sister, Alyssa; best friend, Alicia Lester; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Interment was private. Arrangements were by Washburn-McReavy Seman Chapel, Coon Rapids.
Mildred Hamblin
Funeral service for Mildred Helene Hamblin, 99, Anoka, took place Nov. 15 at Zion Lutheran Church. Rev. Norman R. Berg officiated.
Hamblin died Nov. 10, 2006 at Anoka Care Center. She was born March 24, 1907 in Northfield to John and Annette (Swenson) Roisum and was a retired salesperson at Dayton's and Montgomery Ward.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Florek of Coon Rapids and Carol Huser of Anoka; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Claire; brothers, Art and Ben Roisum; and sisters, Helen Johnson, Alma Roisum and Mary Ann Blundell.
Pallbearers were John and Jacob Huser, Peter Dale and Carl, Natalie and Brooke Morgan.
Interment was at Sunset Memorial Park, Minneapolis. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
Steven Kitner
Funeral service for Steven D. Kitner, 50, Blaine, took place Nov. 9 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Spring Lake Park. Rev. Paul Strawn officiated.
Kitner died Nov. 6, 2006. He was born Nov. 11, 1955 in Minneapolis and was a supervisor.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, Darrell and Daniel; mother, Janey (Harvey) Burklind; brother, Chuck (Gail) Kitner; sister, Kim (Bill) Lehman; and nieces, nephews, stepbrothers, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Sydney Larson
Funeral service for Sydney George Larson, 90, Coon Rapids, took place Oct. 21 at First Baptist Church, Coon Rapids. Rev. Paul Lundgren officiated.
Larson died Oct. 18, 2006 in Roseville. He was born May 19, 1916 in Enfield to Ole and Eva Larson and was a retired Baptist minister.
He is survived by his wife, Grace; sons, Eldon (Emily) and Jerry (Mary); daughters, Marilyn (Mike) Reynolds, Connie (David) Wetzell and Betty (Gerald) Nyberg; grandchildren, Kaylan, Danielle, Jon, Dan, Sarah (Tom), Tim, David, Chris (Adam), Cathy (Phillip), Cassie, Linnea (Kevin), Anna (Jeff), Paul and Carl; great-grandchildren, Carolynn, Cayla and Samuel; brothers, Paul and Glenn (Laverna); sisters, Halo Thompson and Grace (Ed) Protheroe; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Interment was at Morningside Memorial Gardens, Coon Rapids. Arrangements were by Gearhart Funeral Home, Coon Rapids.
Kathryn Peters
Funeral service for Kathryn Kay Peters, 57, Bethel, took place Nov. 15 at Family of Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. Dennis Perryman officiated.
Peters died Nov. 10, 2006 in Anoka. She was born June 18, 1949 in Moose Lake to Neal Arthur and Vera Marie (Schmidt) Tait. She was the owner/operator of Northstar Driving School and was retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons, Trevor and Adam Peters; siblings, Judith (William) Sarro, Betty (John) Cardinal, Donald Tait, Bonnie (Lawrence) Hayden, Vicki Collins, Michael Tait, Kelly (James) Sauer and Shelly (Michael) Rice; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry Tait.
Pallbearers were William Sarro, Jack Cardinal, Michael Rice, James Sauer and Donald and Michael Tait.
Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements were by Thurston-Lindberg Funeral Home, Anoka.
