Lou Anne Vadney
WARREN, Minn. -- Lou Anne Vadney, 70, Warren, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Good Samaritan Center, Warren.
Louella Anne Kilfoyle was born Feb. 15, 1928, the daughter of James and Anne (Cheney) Kilfoyle, in Warren, where she graduated from high school in 1946. She moved to Renton, Wash. She married Harold Vadney. He preceded her in death. She lived in Washington until returning to Warren four years ago.
She is survived by a daughter, Camille, Washington; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and a sister, Kathleen (David) Horgen, Warren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jim. (Quanrud-DuBore, Warren).
Joney E. Flatland
HALLOCK, Minn. -- Joney E. Flatland, 62, Hallock, formerly of Kennedy, Minn., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, Hallock.
Joney E. Flatland was born Feb. 28, 1936, the son of John and Esther (Jensen) Flatland, in Gully, Minn. He attended school in Trail, Minn. He married Gloria Rebhahn on Aug. 31,1955, in Fosston, Minn. They lived in Fosston and Thief River Falls before moving to Kennedy in 1959. He worked for Crookston Coca-Cola Bottling Co. and in the Kennedy school system. He retired Dec. 8, 1993. They moved to Hallock in October 1998.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Scott (Joetta), Kennedy, Jeffrey (Julie), Fargo, Jon, New Town, N.D., and David (Linda), Thief River Falls; eight grandchildren; and his mother, Fosston.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Marvin; and a sister, Adeline.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hallock.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7: 30 p.m. prayer service, in the church.
Burial: Kennedy Cemetery (Hughes, Hallock).
Bertyl Pederson
NEWFOLDEN, Minn. -- Bertyl Pederson, 66, Newfolden, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Oakland Park Nursing Home, Thief River Falls.
Bertyl LeRoy Pederson was born May 2, 1932, the son of Gilbert and Olga Amanda (Larson) Pederson, in Viking Township, Marshall County, Minn. He attended high school in Newfolden. He married Beverly Bakke on June 15, 1963, in Newfolden. They farmed the Pederson farm in New Solum Township, Marshall County. He moved to Oakland Park Nursing Home on June 6, 1997.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Nancy (Curt) Hutchins, Kalamazoo, Mich., and Pam Pederson and Brenda Pederson, both of Thief River Falls; a granddaughter; brothers, Gaylord (Sonya), Thief River Falls, and Vernon (Pat), Moorhead; a sister, Arlyee (Jim) Andrews, Apopka, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pederson, Thief River Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brent; and a brother, Gerald.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township.
Lester Larson
CLEARBROOK, Minn. -- Lester Larson, 90, Clearbrook, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Good Samaritan Center, Clearbrook, where he resided since November 1997.
Lester Larson was born April 22, 1908, the son of Ludvig and Caroline (Steffenson) Larson, in Sinclair Township, Clearwater County, Minn., where he attended school. He married Gladys Hanson on Nov. 23, 1939, in Bagley, Minn. They farmed until 1956, when they moved to Clearbrook. He worked as a cement finisher in construction and later did exterior house painting.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Darlene (John) Vandermyde, Minneapolis, Janet Korsmoe, Bothell, Wash., and Judy (Bill) French, Alexandria, Minn.; sons, Darrell (Patsy), Luton, England, Larry (Pam), Bothell, Jim (Julie), Thompson, N.D., and Lance (Kathy), Lakeville, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Durwood (Myrtle), Renton, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Clearbrook.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Silver Creek Cemetery, Clearbrook (Cease, Bagley).
Palma Newell
FERTILE, Minn. -- Palma Newell, 84, Fertile, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in First Care Hospital, Fosston, Minn.
Palma Johnson was born June 19, 1914, the daughter of Thomas and Clara Johnson, in Gonvik, Minn., where she attended school. She worked for families in the Gonvik area, doing housekeeping and domestic work. She married Elmer Kise. She worked for a nursing home in Clearbrook, Minn. She later moved to Grand Forks, where she worked in area restaurants. She also worked at Whitey's Cafe, East Grand Forks. She married Edward Newell. She lived in International Falls, Minn., and Bemidji before moving to Fertile in 1990. Edward Newell preceded her in death.
She is survived by sons, Kenneth (Edna) Kise, Dennis (Rose) Kise, both of Bemidji, and Randy Kise, Grand Forks; daughters, Shirley (Don) Lunski and Connie (Bill) Lunski, both of Grand Forks; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Sidney (Marg), Bemidji; and a sister, Dorothy Westrum, Bemidji.
She was preceded in death by a son, Leslie Kise; a grandson; brothers, Floyd, Paul and Wilfred; and sisters, Myrtle Lien and Thelma Voxland.
Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday in Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.

Bennie Bestul
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Bennie Bestul, 76, Bagley, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Clearwater Memorial Hospital, Bagley.
Bennie Bestul was born Feb. 27, 1922, the son of Isaac and Bella (Westberg) Bestul, in Shevlin, Minn. He attended school in Shevlin and Bagley. In the late 1930s he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. He joined the U.S. Army in January 1942 and served during World War II. In 1946, he returned to Bagley. He married Lorraine Vold on Dec. 6, 1947, in Bagley. He did carpentry, worked at Galli Furniture, Bagley, and drove school bus. He worked at Jasperson Chevrolet, Bagley, for 16 years, and Strandien Ford, Bagley, for 17 years. He retired in 1988.
He is survived by his wife; children, Denny (Barb), San Jose, Sherry (Bob) Young, Park Rapids, Minn., Cindi (Dave) Lee, Bagley, Lorri (Tom) Swanum, Duluth, and Bob (Lisa), Ely, Minn.; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Ernie (Iva), Eugene, Ore., Art (Elaine), Grande, Fla., and Ken, Laramie, Wyo.; and sisters, Alice Haaven, McIntosh, Minn., and Ida Irons and Mildred Carter, both of Minneapolis.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bagley.

Vernon G. Mossberger
BAGLEY, Minn. -- Vernon G. Mossberger, 61, Bagley, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, in Greensview Health Care Center, Bagley.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Mossberger, Bemidji; and a brother, Duane, Appleton, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Faith Lutheran Church, Bagley.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, Northern Township, Beltrami County, Minn. (Olson-Schwartz, Bemidji).
Raymond Sagstuen
NEWFOLDEN, Minn. -- Raymond Sagstuen, 76, Newfolden, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.
Raymond Arnold Sagstuen was born Feb. 20, 1922, the son of Ludvig and Ragna (Moberg) Sagstuen, in Viking, Minn. He attended school in Holt, Minn. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Marles Peterson on Sept. 26, 1944, in Thief River Falls. He worked for the Alton Carlson store in Holt and later purchased the Holt Mercantile with his brother, Louis, and operated it until 1952. They moved to Duluth until 1958, when they moved to Grand Forks. He worked for Base Exchange at Grand Forks Air Force Base and Sear's store. In 1974, they moved to their farm in Newfolden Township, Marshall County, Minn.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Renae (David) Myers and Mardell (Jerry) Humble, both of Grand Forks, and Julie (Lee) Norman, East Grand Forks; sons, Gary (Lynette), Grand Forks, and James, Newfolden; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a sister, Dorothy Morkrid, Baudette, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Sagstuen, Newfolden.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Louis and Arnold; and a sister, Margaret Peterson.
Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Nazareth Lutheran Church, Holt.
Visitation: 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Green Funeral Home, Thief River Falls, and one hour before services in the church.
Burial: Holt Cemetery.

Julia Sannes
ERSKINE, Minn. -- Julia Sannes, 86, Erskine, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, in Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, where she had lived since March 1996.
Julia Marion Berglund was born Dec. 8, 1912, the daughter of Oluf and Olive (Lund) Berglund, in Clearbrook, Minn., where she graduated from high school. She attended Bemidji State College. She taught rural school in Gonvick, Minn. She worked for B.B. Lunch Cafe in McIntosh, Minn. She married Arthur Sannes on Oct. 21, 1939, in Bagley. They lived and farmed south of Erskine. Arthur Sannes died in 1981.
She is survived by a son, James, Erskine; a daughter, Laurel Nabben, Thief River Falls; and sisters-in-law, Eleanor Berglund, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Clara Jacobson, St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Alpha Berglund and Beatrice Welte; and brothers, John Oliver, Wilfred and Ted.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home, Erskine.
Visitation: One hour before services in the church.
Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Erskine.
Allen W. Drury
FERTILE, Minn. -- Allen W. Drury, 84, Fertile, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at home.
Allen Walter Drury was born July 23, 1914, the son of Issac and Jenny Drury, in Menomonie, Wis., where he attended school. He worked with his family farming, logging and clearing land. He also worked as a farm laborer. He joined the U.S. Army on Oct. 15, 1940 until Sept. 26, 1945, when he returned to Menomonie. In 1947, he moved to Cheyenne, Wyo. He married Gertrude Lemon on June 23, 1947, in Cheyenne. They moved to Moorhead, and in 1949, they moved to Fertile, where they operated a dairy and small grain farm. In the late 1970's he sold his dairy cattle.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Jim (Lorraine), Fertile; daughters, Elsie Delong, Arden Hills, Minn., and Alice Ritchie, Scotts Valley, Calif.; a daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Lehmann, Boise, Idaho; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Phillip, Chippewa Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bill Lehmann; a daughter, Lilly Hickok; two grandchildren; a sister, Lilly Netland; and brothers, Logan, Francis, Robert and Lester.
Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile.
Visitation: One hour before services in the funeral home.
Burial: First Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, Fertile.
Katherine J. Eggen
ADA, Minn. -- Katherine J. Eggen, 46, Bismarck, formerly of Ada, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital.
Katherine J. Hasz was born Aug. 31, 1951, the daughter of Marvin and Evelyn (Tinnel) Hasz, in Ada. She attended school in Borup, Minn., and Ada, where she graduated in 1969. She married Arlen Eggen on Aug. 30, 1969, in Ada. She received her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Minot State College, and was working on her master's degree in criminal justice. She was planning to teach at Bismarck State College this fall. She worked for APCOA as a parking lot attendant at the airport. She and her husband were foster parents for eight years, taking in over 250 children.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Eric (Kelly), Bismarck; a grandson; her mother, Evelyn Opgrand, Hillsboro, N.D.; sisters, Janice Tracy, Perley, Minn., Judith Bjerken, Kansas City, Mo., and Sheila Compeau, Grand Forks; and a brother, Daniel, Marshall, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her father; and her stepfather, Carleton.
