Gertrude Meier
Gertrude “Gert” Meier, 93, of Windom died March 25, 2003, at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.
Services were held Friday at American Lutheran Church in Windom with Rev. Gregory Hall officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Vought, organist.
Casketbearers were Jim Meier, Al Meier, Barry Meier, Craig
Meier and Jennie Meier.
Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Gertrude Emily Heltorp was born July 12, 1909, to John and Gina (Larsen) Heltorp in Windom. She received her education in Windom Public Schools, graduating in 1928. For one year, she attended Normal Training for teachers in Windom, then taught for three years in Windom.
In 1932, Gert married Gottfried Meier in North Mankato.
Gert and Gottfried lived in Windom, where Gert worked for 33 years at the Ben Franklin Store in Windom.
In 1997, she became a resident at Sogge Good Samaritan Center in Windom.
Gert was a longtime member of American Lutheran Church in Windom as well as its choir and ladies aid. She also was a member of the Sons of Norway.
Gert enjoyed antiquing and being a member of the Birthday Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gottfried Meier; a son, Robert Meier; and two grandsons, Randy and Brad Meier.
Survivors include her sons, Richard (Karen) Meier of Red Wing and Donald (Patti) Meier of Plymouth; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Earl Anderson
Earl Anderson, 84, of rural Revere died March 27, 2003, at North Central Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services were held Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Walnut Grove with Rev. Norman Fonss officiating.
Special music was provided by Nancy Harnack, organist.
Casketbearers were Arlie Anderson, Bruce Anderson, Todd Anderson, Curt Nelson, Jim Hoyt, John Bakken, Ron Bakken and Bob Heggerston.
Interment was at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in Ann Township of Cottonwood County.
Walnut Grove Funeral Home of Walnut Grove was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Earl Arnold Anderson was born Feb. 25, 1919, to Oscar and Ida (Fingarson) Anderson on the family farm in Ann Township of Cottonwood County. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He attended rural school
District 13.
In 1954, Earl married Gustie Bedwell at St. Olaf Lutheran Church and lived on the family farm.
Earl began farming at age 14, with his father and brother, and later farmed on his own until retiring in 1968. He also raised livestock and especially enjoyed horses.
After retiring from farming, Earl went into the auto repair business.
Earl was involved in the Walnut Grove Lions Club, Lutheran Brotherhood, and church and township boards.
He enjoyed carving, singing, telling jokes, bird watching, watching television and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn, and a sister, Lyla.
Survivors include his wife Gustie of rural Revere; three daughters, Kari (Duane) Ourada of Westbrook; Lori (George) Erbes of Tracy; and Heidi (David) Hansen of Revere; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Arvid (Eunice) Anderson of Lamberton.
Donald Palm
Donald Palm, 79, of Willmar, formerly of Windom, died March 25, 2003, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar following a battle with cancer.
Services were held Thursday at First Covenant Church in Willmar with Rev. Dan Johnson officiating.
Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Windom.

Donald Charles Palm was born March 4, 1924, to Charles and Hannah (Carlson) Palm in Windom. He grew up in the Windom area, where he attended country school and farmed with his family.
He moved to Willmar where he worked as a human service assistant for Willmar State Hospital.
In 1946, Don married Gladys Buhr at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Windom. The couple lived in Willmar, where Gladys joined her husband in working at the state hospital. Don continued working there for over 40 years. He also had a yard service, mowing lawns and blowing snow.
Don was baptized and confirmed at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Windom. He was currently a member of First Covenant Church in Willmar, where he served as an usher.
He also enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening and building things around his home. He also enjoyed animals, volunteering at the Kandiyohi County Humane Society.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Knuteson.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Willmar; a brother, Ellsworth (Betty) Palm of Willmar; a brother-in-law (David (Marcella) Buhr of Blaine; 11 nieces and nephews, including Ronnie Palm of Jeffers and Marlin (Maureen) Palm of Mt. Lake; and his dog, “Kayo.”
Catherine Jeske
Catherine Jeske, 91, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of the Windom and Jeffers areas, died April 16, 2003, at Encore Senior Village in Mesa, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held this summer in Windom.
Catherine Matilda Tasler was born Oct. 17, 1911, to Edward and Katrina Tasler in Jeffers. She was one of 11 graduates from Jeffers High School in 1931.
In 1933, she married Harold Jeske, who was vice president of Windom State Bank when he retired in 1972. While living in Windom, the couple spent retirement summers in Arizona.
After Harold died in 1985, Catherine moved to Arizona.
While in Windom, Catherine was involved in activities at United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her two daughters, Beverly McLaughlin of Riverside, Calif.; and Jodi Wilson of Dadeville, Ala.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Grace McShane of Maple Grove.
Anne Noe
Anne Noe, 99, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of rural Jackson, died April 24, 2003, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque.
Services were held Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen with Rev. Rachael Christianson officiating.
Special music was provided by Carol Sandve, organist.
Casketbearers were John Osier, Tom Osier, Douglas Elness, Chad Elness, Mitchell Elness and Ralph Elness.
Interment was at Hauges Cemetery in rural Jackson County.

Anne A. Hill was born Jan. 18, 1904, to Ben and Ida (Asbe) Hill in Kanawha, Iowa. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kanawha and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Bergen.
She received her education in Jackson Public Schools and at Lutheran Seminary in Winona, graduating in 1922.
In 1923, Anne married Emmett Elness in Jackson. Emmett died in 1931.
In 1937, Anne married Ralph Noe in Iowa. The couple moved to Dubuque, Iowa, in 1945, then to Lake Wales, Fla., after Ralph retired in 1970. The couple also spent their summers in Bellevue, Iowa.
Ralph died in 1982. Anne continued living in Lake Wales and Bellevue.
While living in the Dubuque area, Anne was a member of the Eastern Star for 56 years and a Past Worthy Matron. She was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dubuque and a member of the PTA.
Anne was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and politics.
In addition to her husbands, Emmett and Ralph, Anne was preceded in death by a son, Loren Elness, who was killed during the Korean War; a sister and brother-in-law, Selma (Orven) Elness; and four brothers, Hans, Ingman, Bert and Harris Hill.
Survivors include her two daughters, Ihlene (Luvern) Stockel of Dubuque, Iowa; and Ruth Anne Lord of Carpentersville, Ill.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Gertie Laffrenzen
Gertie Laffrenzen, 83, of Worthington died April 26, 2003, at Worthington Regional Hospital in Worthington.
Services will be held today (Wednesday) at 10:30 a.m., at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington with Rev. Robert Schulze officiating.
Casketbearers will be Gertie’s grandchildren: Michelle and Landon Siem, Dawn and Travis Kerkaert, Michael and Christy Rust, and Gregory and David Laffrenzen.
Honorary casketbearers will be her nephews: Roger Doeden, Larry Doeden, Jerry Vogt, Tom Martinson and Alvin Sachen.
Interment will be at Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worthington.

Gertie Catherine Sachen was born March 13, 1920, to Edward and Barbara (Paul) Sachen in her parents’ home near Rushmore. She was baptized in 1930 and confirmed in 1936.
Gertie grew up in the Rushmore area, where she attended country school, and helped on the family farm. She also taught Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
In 1946, she married Henning Laffrenzen at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Rushmore. Together they lived and farmed in the Worthington and Reading areas until retiring in 1983 and moving into Worthington.
Gertie was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for 57 years and a member of its ladies aid.
She enjoyed embroidery, milking cows, watching high school basketball and playing cards.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include her husband Henning of Worthington; three children, James (Paula) Laffrenzen of Worthington, Lois (John) Rust of Deerwood and Duane (Toni) Laffrenzen of New Ulm; six grandchildren; six sisters, Lillie (Heinz) Obermoller, Edith Vogt, Emma (Don) Feit, all of Worthington; Hazel (Ivar) Martinson and Clara (Virgil) Martinson, all of Brewster; and Minnie Nelson of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a brother, Edward Sachen of Rushmore; and a sister-in-law, Clara Sachen of Worthington.
