Son of the late Chiai-Ching and A-Wen Chen of HaiNing, CheKiang. Dr. Chen served a long and distinguished career as: Chief Radiologist, Providence Hospital, Southfield, Associate Professor of Radiology, Wayne State University Medical School, and as a consultant to Detroit Receiving Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, Wayne County General Hospital, Detroit Memorial Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital and Highland Park General Hospital. He was a past president of the Chinese Cultural Club and Four Seas Club of Detroit; a member of Rotary Club International, American Medical Association, Wayne County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Roentgen Ray Society of North America, American Radium Society, American Society of Therapeutic Radiologists, Society of Nuclear Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. Dr.Chen received recognition from Wayne State University Medical School, a 50 Year Service Recognition from the American Medicine Club and American Radium Society and 50 year Medical Service Award from the Michigan State Medical Society. GLENN, DR. HELEN L., Age 79, wife of 59 years, mother of ten children, international missionary, evangelist, Christian women's leader, and the first African-American female Detroit Police Chaplain, died of complications of a stroke and heart attack on Sun., Nov. 29, 1998. For the past two years, she resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Pastor and Mrs. Jon D. Brock, in Clovis, New Mexico. A native of Girard, Kansas, she married her childhood sweetheart, George L. Glenn, whom she loved until his death, January 19, 1997. survived by nine children, Lawson, Marshall, George R., Al, Phyllis, Sylvia, Cynthia, Sybil and Jacqueline, (Helen Ilene, preceded her mother in death), sons and daughters in law, 26 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, a sister, Leona Clemmon of Detroit, and two brothers, James and Theodore Lane of Denver, Colorado, many nieces and nephews, and an extended church family and friends. KANE, JOHN COTTER, In Lansing, MI, age 78, passed away Monday, November 30, 1998. John was born August 20, 1920 in Dayton, OH. He graduated from Lansing St. Mary's High School in 1938. He attended Michigan State University and graduated from the University of Detroit Law School with a Juris Doctor law degree, following his grandfather, John M. Kane, his father, James M. Kane, his uncle, Patrick H. Kane, and his cousin, Edward T. Kane into the practice of law. He practiced law in Algonac, MI for over 25 years. He served in World War II in the South Pacific as a Naval Aviator, dive bomber pilot and completed over 40 missions. He was awarded the Navy Air Medal following the Battle of Rabaul. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, past President of the St. Clair County Bar Association, and former City Attorney of Algonac. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Gardner Kane, 4 daughters, Christine E. Kane of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary Elizabeth Kane of DeWitt Township, Constance H. Witherspoon of DeWitt, Patricia B. Kane of East Lansing and two grandsons, John Kane Witherspoon and Patrick James Witherspoon of DeWitt. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Havens, Anna (Michael) Magnotta Sr., and Frances (Royce) Francis, brother-in-law, Vito H. Lilla, cousin Henry L. Wood, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Cotter Kane, his father, James Manion Kane, and his sister, Kathleen Carroll (Vito) Lilla. John was a loving family man who devoted his time to his wife and daughters and who thought the world of his grandsons. He was an avid gardener and golfer with a wonderful sense of humor. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. According to his wishes, his body was donated to the Michigan State University Medical School. A memorial mass will be held at the Michigan State University Alumni Chapel, Auditorium Road, (on the MSU campus) at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
