Charles Bosley
Charles W. "Chuck" Bosley, age 66 of DeTour Village, Michigan passed away early Tuesday morning, January 28 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Chuck was born on September 13, 1936 in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was a lifelong resident of Mackinac and Chippewa Counties. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He was self-employed at Bosley's Home Building and was a homebuilder, boat builder, and tugboat Captain when he retired.
He was a member of the DeTour Volunteer Fire Department and served on the DeTour Village Council and the DeTour Village Water Department Board. He enjoyed building boats, hunting, fishing, woodworking, dancing, and boating. He loved to play his violin and mandolin at many area dances and for his family's enjoyment.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. (Hamel), whom he married
on June 16, 1956 in DeTour Village; four children, Yolonda (Terry) Barrette of Petoskey, Michigan; Charles (Lorecia) Bosley of Drummond Island, Michigan; Jeff (Paula) Bosley of DeTour Village; and Patti Bosley-Soule of DeTour Village; seven grandchildren, Jason and Stacy Barrette, Krystal, Josh, Emily, and Scott Bosley, and Tyler Soule; four sisters, Sharon (Burt) Hamel of DeTour Village; Dolores (Fred) Rye of Pickford, Michigan; Carol (Murray) Hansen of Hessel, Michigan; and LuAnn (Chuck) Harrison of Moran, Michigan; one brother, Anthony (Sue) Bosley of DeTour Village; and sister-in-law, Delores Bosley of St. Ignace, Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Grace Bosley; a brother, Jack Bosley; and a sister, Denise Thompson.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, January 30 at noon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeTour Village, Michigan with Fr. Jacek Wytklo celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery in DeTour Township, Michigan.

Patricia Caskey
Patricia Caskey, 60 of St. Ignace died Monday afternoon at Northern Michigan Hospital following a lingering illness. She was born May 10, 1942 in St. Ignace to James B. Sr. and Mary (Durkalic) Massaway. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1960 and has lived in St. Ignace all her life. She worked at an early age at the family business, restaurants, and many years at the Flame Restaurant her father built, and continued working for her brother in the restaurant. She later owned two motels, the Wayside in St. Ignace and the Vagabond in Mackinaw City. Pat was most content with her family, and in later years she enjoyed being a mother to her boys. She has been in poor health for several years. She is a life member of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians and the Catholic Church.
She married
Russell Caskey on February 1, 1986, and he survives. Also a son and his wife, Michael David and Amanda Massaway of Albany, New York and step-son, Rusty Caskey of Naples, Florida and St. Ignace; three sisters, Marianna Paquin of St. Ignace; Lois (Jerry) Boring of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; and Ruth Massaway of St. Ignace.
She was preceded in death by brothers, James Massaway, Jr. in 1989 and Wallace T. Massaway in 2001.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home on Thursday, January 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday, January 31 at 10 a.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, where Pat was a member and worshiped all her life. Burial will be in St. Ignatius cemetery in the spring.
JONAS, JAMES R.
JONAS, JAMES R., 79 of St. Ignace, died at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 28, 2003 at his home. Arrangements are incomplete, and handled by Dodson Funeral Home, St. Ignace.
Elmer Eckroad
Elmer Eckroad, age 102, of Minneapolis, MN., passed away on March 21, 2003. Preceded in death by wife Sara Adell. Survived by son Richard Eckroad of Minneapolis, grandsons, Aaron (Janet) Eckroad of Minneapolis, Chris (Kellie) Eckroad of Darwin, MN., granddaughter, Polly (Mike) Franta of St. Paul, MN., 5 great grandchildren, and sisters Wanda Hall of Massillon, Ohio, and Iris Salenko of Laguna Hills, CA.
Elmer was born in Ohio but was a long time resident of the Soo where he was employed for 30 years by the Corps of Engineers at the Soo Locks. At the Locks he worked as an engineering assistant on ice surveyes, water levels, and drafting. Prior to his employment at the Locks, Elmer trapped furs in the U.P. and Canada. After retiring from the Locks in about 1962, he worked for several years in construction. In the late 1940's and 1950's he and his wife operated a photography business on the side, photographing the locks area and most of the ore boats. Also during this time he developed and published a booklet about the history and operation of the locks which he marketed to sailors on the ore boats and tourists. He was well known in the area as a hunter and fisherman. In 1994 Elmer moved to Minneapolis to be near his family. Inurnment will be at a later date at Riverside cemetery in the Soo.
Memorials prefered to the American Heart Association.
SWANSON, CARL O. "SWANEE"
SWANSON, CARL O. "SWANEE", of Dearborn Heights, Michigan, died of an illness on March 23, 2003 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born on November 19, 1919. Arrangments are being handled by the R.G. and G.R. Harris Funeral Home in Livonia, Michigan.
Velma Atkins
Velma J. Atkins, of Phoenix, Arizona, died at 5:30 a.m. on February 6, 2003 in Phoenix, Ariz. She was born on July 22, 1912 in McCarron, Mich.
She had previously resided in the Sault. She was a housewife, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Bob Atkins, of Show Low, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Walter D. Atkins, who died in 1982; and her sisters: Jesse Larke, Vera Atkins, and Ruby Raffaele.
Her final resting place is Green Acres Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale, Ariz.
KOIVISTO, ELSIE
KOIVISTO, ELSIE, passed away at Tendercare Nursing Home on June 24, 2003. She was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. on May 30, 1919. Arrangements will be announced at a later date by Hovie Funeral Home.
Jeanette Zwolinski
Jeanette V. Zwolinski, age 76, of Raber, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, July 27, 2003. She was born on October 2, 1926 in Detroit to Edward and Violet (Kamon) Gull.
Jeanette spent much of her early childhood in the Goetzville area. She graduated from Western High School in Detroit, attended college and then worked for a time for Ford Motor Company. From 1954 to 1974, she and her husband owned and operated Mike's Landing Resort in Raber.
Jeanette was a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Goetzville, the Raber Am Vets Ladies Auxiliary Post #79 and the Red Hat Society. Always very active, she enjoyed oil painting, sewing, knitting, berry and mushroom picking, and playing cards with her neighbors every Monday night.
Surviving Jeanette are one son, Michael J. Zwolinski of Onstead, Michigan; three daughters, Carol (Jim) Tate of Riverton, Wyoming, Leslie Beaupre of Holland, Michigan and Valerie (Martin) Ledy of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Zwolinski, on January 28, 1993 and by one grandson, Jody Hansen, on September 10, 1988.
Visitation will be at Reamer Funeral Home in Pickford from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, with parish prayers at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church with Father Jerome Nowacki celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus cemetery.
Memorials may be left to Raber Am Vets Ladies Auxiliary Post #79.

Charles Muscott
Charles Dean Muscott, 66, of St. Ignace, died Sunday afternoon, Nov. 24 about 2 p.m. in the Schoolcraft County in Delta 2, near Delta Creek Pool, Seney Wildlife Area, of an apparent heart attack. He was born March 3, 1936 in Alma, Mich. His parents were Dean and Florence (Greening) Muscott.
He graduated from the University of Michigan was an MBA after attending Alma College and U of M. His undergraduate degree was in Industrial Science. He was a manufacturing representative for Chevrolet for 18 years and traveled the USA as a trouble-shooter for GM. He spent a summer in Alaska during college mining gold.
Chuck was an avid hunter, and made many hunts in Alaska, New Zealand, the Yukon and Africa. He is a member of NRA, Ducks Unlimited, MCCU, Straits Area Sportsman's Club, Safari Club International, and Ohio Antique Gun Show. He is also a licensed gun collector and dealer.
He is a board member of CVB, St. Ignace, holds a builders license, and a class III private Assessor. He was on the Dearborn Reserve Police Department as a sharp shooter and instructor. The family moved from Dearborn in 1970, purchasing Castle Rock Campground, which they still own. They have owned the K Royale Motel for the past 10 years, and formerly owned Victorian Village and Castle Golf. He is a member of Zion Lutheran Church, St. Ignace.
On Sept. 7, 1957, he married
Delores Spiegoski in Dearborn, and she survives. Three daughters, Leslie Gail (Don) Adiska, Ann Arbor; Patty Muscott, Ann Arbor; Crystal (Frank) Venuto, Windsor, Ontario; his mother, Florence Muscott, (Ithaca) St. Ignace and Summerville, S.C.; a brother, James (Elise) Muscott, Summerville, S.C.; three grandchildren, David, Daniel and Clara. His father, Dean Muscott, died 10 years ago, and a sister, Bonnie, died at two years of age.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home on Friday, Nov. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. Services will be Saturday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey and Pastor Greg Rowan officiating. Burial will be on Monday at Ithaca cemetery, Ithaca, Mich., next to his father and sister in the family plot.

ARBIC, PEARL, age 91, died at her home in Sault Ste. Marie on November 19, 2002. She was born in DeTour, Michigan on November 19, 1911. A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. on December 29, 2002 and will be held at Central United Methodist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Hovie Funeral Home.

DEMPSEY, SHIRLEY M., passed away at Tendercare Nursing Home on November 26, 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie, born on January 1, 1916. Arrangements are being handled by Hovie Funeral Home.
Laura Alice Godin
Laura Alice Godin of Sault Ste. Marie, died at War Memorial Hospital on October 7, 2003. She was born on July 8, 1922 in Dafter and was a member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Before retiring, she worked 20 years at Lake Superior State University. In her younger years, she loved to bowl and play cards. In the most recent few years, she spent a few days a week with her extended family at Take 5.
Laura is survived by four daughters: Chris Godin, Kay (Jim) Makela, Edith Godin, and Lori (Joe) Krzykwa all of Sault Ste. Marie; two sons, Pat (Thelma) Godin of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and John (Maria) Godin of Berkley, California. Laura is also survived by one step-son, Levi (Lucy) Godin of Pickford; five grandchildren: Isaac and Paul Godin, Laura and Teresa Makela, and Levi Godin; two step-grandchildren, Charles (April) Godin and Suzette (George) Klukowski; two great-grandchildren, Maija and Micah; and six step-great-grandchildren, DeLynn, Ruby, Kristine, Ky, Harley, and Carmella. She had one step-great-great-grandchild, Alyssa. She is also survived by one brother, William Hill of Brimley, and one sister, Alvera Horn of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Levi Godin, in 1977; two sisters, Lillian and Mary, and a brother, Alec.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chippewa County Community Action Agency Take 5 program.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2003 at 1 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. LaVon Stephenson officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens.

Nancy Getzen
Nancy Ann Getzen, 58, of St. Ignace passed away on Friday, December 19, 2003, at noon at Mackinac Straits Hospital after a brave struggle with cancer. She was born on September 4, 1945 in Detroit.
Her parents were Francis and Eileen Patricia (Sullivan) Droze. She held an Associate's Degree and moved to St. Ignace in 1975. She was a motel owner for 20 years, and very active in the community. She was past president of the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce; a cub scout leader, active with Little League, Right to Life and St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church.
She was a longtime friend of Bill W. Recently, she was very active on the H.O.M.E. board in St. Ignace. She worked for Diane Peppler Crisis Shelter.
She is survived by her family; Paul & Laurie Getzen, Commerce Township; Geoffrey Getzen, Livonia; Katherine & Nic Haarhoff, Royal Oak; Karolyn Getzen, MSU in E. Lansing; brothers: Michael & Sue Droze, Livonia; Martin & Laura Droze, Northville; sisters: Susan Hanawalt, Grosse Point; Maureen & Tom Bosman, Livonia; two grandchildren, Eileen Patricia Getzen & Benjamin Getzen. She is also survived by her best friend and fiance, Charles Williams of the Soo.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home on Sunday, December 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec 22 at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. C. Michael Rhoades officiating. She will be then taken to Garden City for services and burial in St. Hedwig's cemetery. The John N. Santeiu and Son Funeral Home in Garden City will handle arrangements for burial.

Mr. Robert A. Schultz
Mr. Robert A. Schultz, 72 of Gaylord died Friday, August 18, 2000 at his home. Mr. Schultz was born in Albion, Michigan on January 19, 1928 and was raised in the Albion area. He and his wife moved to Florida in 1975. He had been a resident of Gaylord since April 1991. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn (Lewis). He is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Wayne) Wyrembelski of Gaylord and Dana (Jerry) Root of Holland. He is also survived by two sisters; Carolyn (Lee) Zenoniani of Cape Coral, FL and Judy (Terry) Manley of Pittsfield, Vermont; six grandchildren; Emily (Jeffery) Burley, Joseph Wyrembelski, Robert Wyrembelski, Derek Root, Craig Root, and Breea Root. Mr. Richard Allen Howe
Mr. Richard Allen Howe, 71 of Gaylord died Tuesday, August 15, 2000 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Howe was born in Charlevoix on March 3, 1929 and moved to Gaylord in 1975 from Royal Oak. Mr. Howe was a retired electrician and in 1976 purchased Howe's General Store in Vanderbilt. He loved animals and enjoyed working on his "projects". He served in the United States 5th Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. On March 11, 1949 in Ferndale, Michigan he married
the former Patricia Mae Burkart, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Ronny (Audrey) Howe of Sarasota, FL, 10 grandchildren; Robert, Ryan, Amy, Nicholas, Beau, Sonny, Carly, Ronny, Rex and Rossi. Mr. Howe was preceded in death by his sons Rick and Randy and his brother Donald Lowing. FUNERAL SERVICES were held on Saturday, August 19, 2000 at 2:00 PM from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. Mr. Stanley S. Styles
Mr. Stanley S. Styles, 79 of Gaylord died Monday, August 14, 2000 at Pine River Health Care in St. Louis, Michigan. Mr. Styles was born February 4, 1921 in Waterloo, Iowa. He was raised in Pleasant Lake and lived in the Gaylord area since 1938. Mr. Styles had been a real estate developer and had owned Styles Real Estate and Styles Investment Company. He was a veteran and a member of the Elks. In 1950 in Manistique, he married
the former Helen Merry, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Greg Styles and Doug Styles, both of Florida, one daughter, Dyann Otero of Green Bay, WI, 10 grandchildren, and one sister, Jane "Pat" Galvin of Traverse City. Mrs. Helen Oley
Mrs. Helen Oley, 75 of Gaylord died Sunday, August 13, 2000 at her home. Mrs. Oley was born in Detroit on January 26, 1925 and moved to Gaylord in 1978 from Pontiac. She was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. Mrs. Oley was preceded in death by her husband, George on April 28, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her sister-in-law, Mary Chala. She is survived by one cousin, Betty Parsley of Pontiac, two sisters-in-law, Terry Rypien and Marge Pettoello, both of Spokane, Washington, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Vivian D. Weiss
Mrs. Vivian D. Weiss, age 82 of Clarkston died Tuesday August 8, 2000 at Crittenton Hospital . She was born in Gaylord, March 20, 1918 where she resided until she was 22 years old. Vivian moved to Cheboygan and lived there from 1940 until approximately 1964. She then moved to East Lansing, where she worked for the Michigan State Police Department in Lansing as a bookkeeper for almost 20 years and retired from there. Vivian moved to Traverse City upon retirement and lived there until 1992. She has been residing in Clarkston since 1992. She loved oil painting, gardening and her cats. Mrs. Vivian Weiss is survived by; her sister Beverly Baumgras of Waterford; her brother Leland (Dorothy) Krauss of Fowler; grandchildren Nicole (Kevin) Delaney of Hawaii and Tonya Molag of Grand Rapids; great-grandchildren Chloe, Tyler, Taryn and Tes Vivian. She was preceded in death by her Son Lewis Weiss in 1991. GRAVESIDE SERVICES will be held for Mrs. Weiss at the Fairview cemetery in Gaylord Saturday, Aug. 12 at 1PM. Rev. John Naile officiating. Mrs. Christie A. Amthor
Mrs. Christie A. Amthor, 64 of Gaylord died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at her home. Born in Charlton Township on June 17, 1936 she had been a lifetime resident of the Gaylord area. Mrs. Amthor was a member of St. Mary Cathedral parish. She loved her kids and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Amthor is survived by; her husband Jerry; four children, Jerry Jr. (Shirley) Amthor of Gaylord, Cindy (Tom) Corby of Gaylord, Time (Lisa) Amthr of Lansing, and Todd (Lisa) of Saginaw. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Jaime, Nikki, Matthew, Jason, Zach, Angela, Bradley, Meghan and Lynsey, two great-grandchildren; Zoey & Katelin; 1 sister and 4 brothers; Elaine (Joe) Schmidt of Traverse City, Jim (Alice) Larsen of Wisconsin, Bob (Maggie) Larsen of Gaylord, Terry (Nancy) Larsen of Gaylord, Glen (Joan) Larsen of Gaylord; and one sister-in-law; Barb Larsen of California. Mrs. Amthor was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Brandon and Brandie and three brothers; Alfred Jr., Dave, and Norm. Mr. Roger A. Howard
Mr. Roger A. Howard, 57 of Gaylord died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at Otsego Memorial Hospital. Mr. Howard was born in Detroit on November 23, 1942 and was raised in Highland. He graduated from Milford High School and later enlisted in the United States Army. After the service he attended Lawrence Institute of Technology and graduated in 1971, with honors, as an electrical engineer. In the late 1960's he purchased property and began spending time in the Gaylord area. Mr. Howard was currently employed with K-Byte as an engineer. He was an avid sportsman and loved aviation. Mr. Howard is survived by; his fiancé, Sharon Fuller of Gaylord; his son, Shawn (Monica) Howard of Atlanta, GA; his mother, Mary Ann Howard of Byron; 2 grandchildren, Amanda & Marissa; his brother, Ronald Howard of Byron; and his sister, Janet Wolf of Linden.
