RAKER, DOROTHY CORTHELL April 7, 1998. Dorothy was originally from Toledo, Ohio and moved to Texarkana, Texas where she was a pioneer in the Geriatrics field. She created the first federally funded Meals on Wheels Program in the United States and served on the Presidents Council for Aging while she was Director of the Office of Aging. She was instrumental in the building of a large innovative retirement home located in Texarkana. Dorothy was considered an expert on care of the aged. Her Geriatrics Programs were widely known and she was invited to many major universities to lecture on establishment of facilities for the elderly. Privately Dorothy was gregarious and actively supportive of her neighbors, friends and family. Many people through Texas remember her as an artist, a talent she discovered in her late fifties. She was widowed in 1992 after 56 years of marriage to Robert. They had only one daughter Carol Maraldo of Berkley, MI; whom she resided with the past two years. She is survived by her dear sister Mary Edner; 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Graveside memorial service May 2nd, 2 p.m. at Toledo Memorial Park cemetery, Sylvania, Ohio.
