Richard Moulton
Richard L. "Dick" Moulton, 72, of Newberry, died Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2002 at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette. Mr. Moulton was born December 16, 1929 in Pontiac, son of the late Virgil and Lenore (O'Brien) Moulton.
Following his high school graduation, Dick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and served as a pilot for four years until his honorable discharge. He then resided in Newaygo and was a flight instructor until his hiring as a fire patrol pilot for the Department of Natural Resources. In 1959, Dick transferred to the district office of the D.N.R. in Newberry and continued his employment until his retirement in 1971 due to his health. He continued with a college education and, in 1974, graduated from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie with a degree in business. Dick was a former member of the McMillan Lodge #400 F & AM, member of the American Legion Post #74 and of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, all of Newberry. He was also a member, former manager, and former trustee of the Newberry Country Club. Dick was also a lifetime member of B.P.O.E. #1705 in Newberry, serving as Exalted Ruler from 1968-1969, 1990-1991, secretary for the lodge from 1992-2002 and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for his dedicated service to the Newberry Elks Lodge. Dick was a passionate Newberry sports fan, attending home and away events at all levels of competition.
Besides his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his grandson Aaron Moulton. Survivors include his loving wife, the former Lois DePottey of Newberry, whom he married
December 26, 1975; his children, Gary (Cindy) Moulton of Newberry; Diane (John) Burbach of Newberry and Betty (Paul) Broussard of Houston, Texas; his step-children Don (Stacey) Price of Newberry, Sally (Ron) Jenkins of Gaylord; Bob (Suzette) Price of Mt. Clemens; Pam (Scott) LaFleur of Gladstone and Rick (Sharon) Price of Newberry; 24 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brothers Russell (Vicky) of Newaygo, Kern (Marva) of Carson City, Nevada; and Don (Becky) of Newaygo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Newberry with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 from 4-7 p.m. with an Elks memorial service conducted by the lodge members at 6:30 p.m.
Those who wish may contribute to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the Newberry Civic Center Fund in memory of Richard L. "Dick" Moulton.

Loretta Key
Loretta E. Key, 82, of Montrose, died at 8:25 a.m. Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Mattoon Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 9, 2002 at the Humboldt cemetery, Humboldt, with Rev. Jerry Wilson as officiant. Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Key was born on October 31, 1919 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, a daughter of Chester and Cecilia Cook. She married
Ray M. Key in St. Ignace, Michigan on May 13, 1939. He preceded her in death on November 13, 1992.
Survivors include one son, Ray (Little Ray) Key of Montrose; three daughters, Mrs. Frank (Beverly) Marble of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Mrs. David (Laura Belle) Nottingham of Mattoon; Mrs. Bill (Bob) Snider of Charleston; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Floyd Cook; Albert Krull; Roy Krull; and Otto Krull, all of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; 6 sisters, Betty Willis; Cecilia Belanger; Mildred McKelvie; Madge Schmitt; Grace Solberg; and Ethel Mae Parks, all of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 grandchildren.
Mrs. Key was a homemaker. She was an Elder of the Chippewa Indian Tribe of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She enjoyed Kitty Wells, reading, crocheting, and swinging on the porch.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
John Quigley
John (Jack) H. Quigley, 79, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away at his home on September 8, 2002.
He was born on September 23, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. His parents were Caramel and Lillian (Jacques) Quigley. John served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He worked for the Soo Locks and Jewel Tea Company and later founded Jack Quigley Insurance Agency until his retirement in 1984. He was a lifetime member of Local #593 Musicians Union where he held many different positions.
He is survived by his wife, Delores (Harris) of 59 years; three sons, John William (Sharon) of Ann Arbor; James Wilford (Monica) of Sault Ste. Marie; Robert David (Suzanne) of Sault Ste. Marie, and daughter Cheryl Ann (Larry) Canup of Dallas, Texas. Survivors also include one sister, Rita Toland of Jackson, Michigan; sister-in-law Leda Quigley of Brevort, Michigan. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William Francis Quigley.
He will lie in rest at Clark Bailey Funeral Home, Monday, September 9, 2002 from 7-9 p.m.
Church service will be held at St. Joseph's Church on September 10, 2002 at 10:00 a.m., where he was a longtime member and usher.
Interment will be at Oaklawn cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Chippewa County, or any charity of choice.
WINDSOR, MEREDITH M.
WINDSOR, MEREDITH M., age 80 of Kewadin, Michigan passed away at 8:03 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, at his summer home in Hessel, Michigan, surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial services are being planned for the Traverse City area with graveside services at the Cedar cemetery in Cedarville, Michigan.
Arrangements are being handled by the Reamer Funeral Home of Pickford, Michigan.
Hugh Madigan
Hugh Howard Madigan, born to John A. Madigan and Sara (Campbell) Madigan on December 20, 1917, passed away on November 3, 2002 in Ft. Myers, Florida, in the comfort of his daughter's home.
Hugh, along with his wife of 60 years, Bette (Quack) Madigan, were the owners of Madigan Insurance Agency for over 30 years.
Hugh was a past City Commissioner, past Board member of the Diocese of Marquette, President of the Loretto Catholic Central H.S. School Board, liaison for the Kincheloe Air Force Base, Director of the Sault Savings Bank. Hugh attended the University of Michigan and was a Lieutenant during World War II with the Canadian Army's XII Manitoba Dragoons.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Bette) Madigan on October 25, 2001; a son, Frances John; brothers John, Harry, Walter, Charles, Bernard, Harvard and George; and one sister, Bernice Tavern.
He is survived by his three sons: Douglas (Connie) of Hampton Cove, Alabama; James of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; and Stephen (Susan) of Cedarville, Michigan; one daughter, Cathy (Greg) Eagle of N. Ft. Myers, Florida; two sisters, Mary Madigan and Sara Franco; one brother-in-law, Otto Quack; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; and his friend, golf partner, and U of M roommate, Ken Atkin.
Hugh's first love was his family. Beyond that, he greatly enjoyed the game of golf, starting as a caddie at the Sault Ste. Marie Country Club in the 1920s. Hugh was also an avid fisherman and hunter, especially in Barbeau, Drummond Island, and Wawa, Ontario. He spent his summers, since the early 50s, on Brimley Beach, which was where both he and Bette considered heaven on earth. Since 1978, home was in Matlacha, Florida. Hugh often said life couldn't get any better than having the Gulf of Mexico and Brimley Bay to live on.
There is only one word to describe Hugh Madigan, and that is a gentleman -- a true and civil gentleman. Hugh was a deeply faithful man his entire life, and will surely enjoy eternal life. He will be sadly missed by many.
A private Memorial Service will be held on November 24, 2002 at his daughter's home in Ft. Myers. Michigan friends and family will celebrate his life at a Memorial Service to be scheduled for Summer 2003 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

Harold Bertram
Harold Duane "Buddy" Bertram left this world to be with our Lord on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 2:15 p.m. in Brooksville, Fla. Buddy was born at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. on March 29, 1967.
He graduated from Hernando High School in Brooksville, Fla. in 1985. After graduation from high school, Buddy attended and graduated from "The Conklin Center for the Blind," in Daytona, Fla. where he lived and worked for the Division of Blind Services for a number of years. Buddy moved to Homosassa, Fla. to be closer to his family and was on the Board of Directors for "The Blind Americans, Inc." at 6055 N. Carl G. Rose Hwy., Hernando, FL 34442, where he also taught Braille until early this year when complications with diabetes set in.
Buddy is survived by his loving parents, Duane A. and Rhea Bertram of Brooksville; his brother, Rick D. Bertram of Port Richey; two nephews, Michael D. Bertram of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. and Paul J. Bertram of St. Petersburg, Fla.
A quiet service will be held with the immediate family and close personal friends. He will be missed by all that he touched and that knew him. The comfort comes from knowing that he was a child of the King and is now in a much better place.
Gertrude Martin
Gertrude E. Martin, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 in Gwinn, Michigan. She was born on March 5, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie. She was a member of St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Church.
Mrs. Martin is survived by a son, Victor T. (Betty) Martin of Keller, Texas; three daughters, Jeanette (John T.) McCarthy of Sault Ste. Marie; Joyce Styer of Gwinn, Michigan; Donna (Orville) Payment of Sault Ste. Marie; one sister, Patricia (Robert) Reining of Chicago, Illinois; three sisters-in-law, Lois Baker of Banning, California; Stella Martynowiez of Chicago, Illinois; and Jean Kwiatkowski of Chicago, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, John III and Michael McCarthy, Shannon Schroeder, Ralph II and Greg Styer, Tammy Hawks, Orville Payment, Jr., Stacy Sibanda, Brian and Greg Payment; 10 great-grandchildren, John IV and Michael McCarthy, Eric and Ethan McCarthy, Connor Schroeder, Alec Styler, Gary III and Cierra Hawks, Abigail Payment, and Trinity Sibanda.
Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband, Victor T. Martin (July 23, 2002), whom she married
on March 5, 1943; an infant son, Harold Elmer Martin (1956); brother, Fred Baker; and parents, Elmer J. and Gertrude I. (Brown) Baker.
There will be a memorial mass held on Friday, November 15, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral Church. Clergy is Father Ted Brodeur.
Final resting place will be Riverside cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's Roofing Fund.

George Dick
George C. Dick, age 88, of Drummond Island, Michigan passed away Sunday, March 23, 2003 at his home.
George was born January 28, 1915 in Rochester, New York. He graduated from the University of Rochester in 1936 with a bachelor degree in economics and was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. He lived in Birmingham, Michigan from 1958 to 1983 where he worked as a sales manager for a company selling chemical products to the automotive industry. He was an Eagle Scout and a Scoutmaster.
George spent his retirement years in Drummond Island, Michigan where he was very active in the community. He was a member of the Drummond Island Sportsman Club, Friends of the Library, Medical Clinic Board, as well as other organizations. He and his wife Mildred were named Drummond Island Outstanding Citizens of the Year in 1999 for their work with Friends of the Library.
George is survived by three sons, George Griffith (Jeane Quo) Dick of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Charles Dick of Rochester, New York; and Christopher (JoEllen) Dick of Central Lake, Michigan; two daughters, Marilyn (Steve) Nelson of Attleboro, Massachusetts and Susan Meyer of Dexter, Michigan; and 10 grandchildren, Scott and Eric Nelson, Stacy, Brian, Kevin, Adrian, Carolyn, and Catherine Dick, Henry and Margaret Meyer.
George was preceded in death by his father George C. Dick, in February 1986 and his mother May Dick in October 1961; his first wife, Marion J. Dick on April 13, 1979; his second wife, Mildred Dick on October 20, 1998; and his sister Mary C. Dick in November 1969.
Funeral Services will be at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Drummond Island Lutheran Church with Deacon Charles Krahnke officiating. Friends may call at the church from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Greenwood cemetery, Oak Street, Birmingham, Michigan by Reverend Benjamin Bishop.

Richard Wagner
Richard Charles Wagner of John Street, Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at War Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 22, 1930 in Sewickley, Penn.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Ameritech with over 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sally McDonald whom he married
on July 6, 1953; one son, Scott Wagner of Grass Lake, Mich.; one daughter, Cathy (William) Leclerc of Seattle, Wash.; six grandchidren: Lucius (Kristine) Leclerc, Deanna (Eric) Sherlund, Celesta Leclerc, Jaimee Gigowski, Russell Wagner, and Samuel Wagner. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents -- William and Eva (Powell) Wagner, and a brother, William Wagner Jr.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Waite officiating. Final resting place will be Pine Grove cemetery.

James Schneider Sr.
James J. Schneider Sr. of 310 Dillon St. in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away at War Memorial Hospital, Long Term Care Unit on Wednesday, September 10, 2003. Jim was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Donna M. Schneider on May 22, 2003. Jim is lovingly remembered by his five children, James J. Schneider Jr. of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Gretchen E. Beck of Sparks, Nevada; Martha A. Schneider of Sparks, Nevada; David G. Schneider of Flower Mound, Texas; and Mary Kathryn Richardson of Richmond, Michigan. Also surviving are five grandsons, three granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.
Jim was born on July 8, 1921 in Saginaw, Michigan to George and Grace Schneider, attended Central Michigan University and served his country during the Second World War as a member of the Army Air Corps. Mr. Schneider was employed for 34 years with Michigan Bell Telephone Company, retiring as Commercial Manager in Sault Ste. Marie in 1979.
Jim gave freely of his time and was active in many civic organizations in the Sault including The Michigan Bell Pioneers, Kiwanis International, The Chamber of Commerce, and The Salvation Army. Jim was also a Life Member of the Elks Club.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on September 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. Father Donald Shiroda officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Georgia Freeland
Georgia L. Freeland, 93, passed away on September 24, 2003 at her home on Sugar Island. She was born on July 18, 1910 in Fordsville, Kentucky. She moved to Detroit in 1928 and to Sugar Island in 1961. Georgia was employed by GM for eleven years, several small shops, two of which she was a "Girl Friday."
She and her husband bought and operated a fishing camp on Sugar Island in 1956 known as Freelands Full-View Resort and operated it until 1990. Son and wife, Archie and Ruby joined them in 1978. Winters were spent traveling out west. Twenty years spent at their home in Rockledge, Florida.
Survived by one daughter Ruby Jean (Archie) Freeland; two stepsons Archie (Ruby) Freeland, Sugar Island, Michigan; James (Lorraine) Freeland, Inkster, Michigan; one granddaughter Carol Ann (Patrick) Topij, Kincheloe, Michigan; three great-grandchildren; John (Lattieca) Hafendorfer, Pelican, AK; Cheryn (Rodney) Sanford, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Michael (Barbara) Hafendorfer, Portland, TN; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. One niece Juanita (Lee) Brittain, Sun City, Arizona; nephews Boyd (Fay) Wedding, San Antonio, TX; Robert (Jan) Wedding, Farwell, Michigan.
Preceding her in death are her parents Walter Y. and Cynthia Wedding, one brother Walter Y. Wedding, two sisters, Ada Wedding and Annabelle Rowland. Her husband of 59 years, Arthur J. Freeland.
She was a member of St. Luke's On the Trail Church on Sugar Island. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's On the Trail Church in c/o Mrs. Carol Schrader, 1858 N. Brasser Rd., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783; to Sugar Island Ambulance Association, Sugar Island Community Center, 6401 E 1 1/2 Mile Rd., Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783; or to a charity of one's choice.. Georgia loved cooking, hunting, fishing, and visiting family and her many friends. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.
