Charles Brill
Charles E. Brill passed away on June 25, 2003 at War Memorial Hospital as a result of an accident at his home. He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on February 2, 1932.
Charles served in the Air Force and was a graduate of the University of Minnesota. He retired from the faculty of Kent State University School of Journalism. He moved to Paradise in 1996 where he enjoyed boat building, and enjoyed his life in the woods and on the waters of the area.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; his son, Mark (Deborah) of Tucson; his daughters: Lisa of Cleveland and Amy (Frank) Selke of Boston; grandchildren Haley and Alex Brill and Michelle, Eric, Nicholas and Amanda Selke; and his brother, James Brill of Menominee Falls as well as many dear friends.
Services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Sault Ste. Marie at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
SHEPARD, CLOYCE F.
SHEPARD, CLOYCE F., of Kincheloe passed away unexpectedly on June 26, 2003. He was born on February 25, 1921. Arrangements will be announced by Hovie Funeral Home.
Louise Hagen
Louise F. Hagen, 92, of Brevort died at 10:45 p.m. Friday evening, July 11, 2003 at Mackinac Straits Hospital Long Term Care. She was born in Detroit on February 24, 1909. Her parents were Charles E. and Minnie (Jones) Clark.
She graduated from Grosse Pte. School and spent four years at Albion College, graduating in 1933 with a Life Certificate in Education. She met and married
Harley Hagen from Brevort, and they were married
in Grosse Pte. on April 30, 1935, making their home in Brevort. She was a home economics teacher from 1957 to 1974 in the St. Ignace system, and her husband was an elementary principal and teacher. Harley died at the age of 66 on September 19, 1974.
Louise was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort, and served in many capacities of the church. She was a member of the MEA and NEA, served on the Moran Township Board from 1974 to 2001. She was an avid gardener, and all the folks of Brevort community benefited from her garden. She considered the Brevort area her extended family, and they helped her stay in her own home until April of 2003, when she entered the extended care facility.
She is survived by her family, daughters Anne and William Anderson of Bemidji, Minn., Lynn and Roger Van Dok of Arvada, Colo., and Elizabeth and George Hannigan of Scotch Plains, N.J.; a son, Harley Jr. "Butch" and Darleen Hagen of Junction City, Ore.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles E. Clark Jr., and a sister, Florence Strong.
Friends may call at Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace on Monday evening, July 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. A family and community sharing will be at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brevort with Pastor Tari Stage-Harvey officiating. Louise will lie in state at the church one hour before service time. Interment will be in Brevort cemetery, next to her husband.
Margaret Wright
Margaret L. Wright, 80, of Sault Ste. Marie entered eternal life on Saturday morning, July 12, 2003 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on August 2, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie and was a lifetime resident of the Sault.
Margaret joined hands in marriage to Everett Wright on October 8, 1974 in Sault Ste. Marie.
Her beloved husband, Everett, has preceded her in death on July 29, 1974.
She is survived by her loving children, Carl (Barb) Wright of Crystal Lake, Linda (Roy) Clow of Sugar Island and Charles (Karen) Wright of Sault Ste. Marie; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Annie McMann of Toledo, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at 3 p.m. at Ross Funeral Home, 260 East Main Street, Pickford with Pastor David Letscher officiating. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Her Final Resting Place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens cemetery beside her husband, Everett.

Vera Parr
Vera A. (Underhill) Parr passed away on July 13, 2003 at Tendercare Nursing Home in Sault Ste. Marie. Vera was born on St. Joseph Island, Ont. on April 22, 1915.
Vera was a lifelong resident of Neebish Island. She was a charter member of the Neebish Island Presbyterian Church (an elder for many years), and a member of the Neebish Ladies Group. She spent her life sharing love and sending cards, letters, and phone calls to family and friends. She loved caring for her many flowers and plants.
Vera was married
to Fred Parr for 61 years. Fred predeceased her in 1997. She is survived by two sons, Raymond (Vanita) Parr of Lowell, Ind., and Kenneth (Sharon) Parr of Sault Ste. Marie; and daughter, Verna (Herb) Brown of Sault Ste. Marie. Vera has nine grandchildren: Vicki (Bill) Valentine of Hebron, Ind., Leesa (Alex) McCready of Neebish Island, Nicole (Jeff) DeYoung of Portage, Ind., Roger (Jill) Parr, Richard (Sue) Parr, Lannie (John) Castagne, of Sault Ste. Marie, David (Theresa) Brown of Crown Point, Ind., Raymond Brown and Herb (Colleen) Brown of Sault Ste. Marie; and 14 great-grandchildren. Vera is also survived by one sister, Gertrude Parr, of Saginaw. She was predeceased by three sisters: Mildred Hadden, Evelyn Searle, Doris Armstrong and a brother, John Underhill of Ontario.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Hovie Funeral Home from 12 to 3 p.m. Services will be held at the Neebish Island Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, July 16, 2003 at 11 a.m. with a viewing commencing at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at the Neebish Presbyterian Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be left to Hospice of Chippewa County Inc., or a charity of your choice.
Beverly Thompson
Beverly J. (Soper) Thompson passed away at Tendercare Nursing Home on July 12, 2003. She was born on May 26, 1929 in Iron Mountain. She loved to be with all her children and grandchildren. Beverly kept beautiful gardens, enjoyed bird watching and being in nature.
Surviving Beverly are her three sons: Daniel (Marianne) Soper, Dave (Jeannie) Soper and Don (Karla) Soper, and her daughter, Sue Mackie, all of Sault Ste. Marie. Her grandchildren are Ashley and Holly Soper, Carissa (Matt) Leazier, Dane Soper, Ryan and Denny Soper, and Shelby Mackie. Beverly had four brothers, two sisters and four great-grandchildren.
Preceding Beverly in death are her previous husband, James Soper, and her second husband, Don Thompson.
Visiting hours will be held at Hovie Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. also on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Hovie Funeral Home with Dean Lever officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside cemetery.

Denise Thompson
Denise Elizabeth Thompson, age 44, of Kromiller Road, Cedarville, Michigan, died unexpectedly at 7:45 p.m. on Monday evening, May 27 at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.
Denise was born in St. Ignace, Mich. on October 25, 1957. She grew up in DeTour Village, and graduated from DeTour High School in 1975. She worked as a residential care specialist for the mentally impared in St. Ignace and Moran, Mich. She received training at the Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace, where she became a certified nurse's aid. Denise worked until September of 2001, when her health prevented her from continuing.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed Scrabble, cooking and baking.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dale R. Thompson, whom she married
on September 9, 1977 in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; one daughter Nickole (James Lannnoo) Thompson of St. Ignace, Mich.; two sons: Chad and Dustin Thompson of Cedarville, Mich.; two grandchildren, Jacy Keith and Cooper Lannoo; two brothers, Charles (Marilyn) Bosley and Anthony (Sue) Bosley both of DeTour Village, Mich.; four sisters, Sharon (Burton) Hamel of DeTour Village, Mich., Delores (Fred) Rye of Pickford, Mich., Carol (Murray) Hansen of Hessel, Mich. and Lu-Ann (Charles) Harrison of Moran, Mich.; and one sister-in-law, Delores Bosley of St. Ignace, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Bosley, on November 4, 1971; her father, Ross Bosley on Sept. 21, 1975 and her mother, Grace (Rabideau) Bosley on Dec. 7, 1977.
No visitation will be held. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 31 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Hessel, Mich. with Father Jacek Wtyklo celebrant. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before services. Interment will be private.

Audrey Ailing
Audrey D. "LeSage" Ailing of J.K. Lumsden Way, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan died on Sunday, May 26, 2002 at General Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
She was born on December 2, 1932 on Sugar Island, Mich.
She worked for Community Action (Head Start), and retired from the Department of the Interior in 1991. She was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and was very influential in helping the community realize their Native American Heritage.
She is survived by her sweetheart, Joe Boissoneau; children: Kim (Walter) Santigo, Lynn (Marsha) Ailing, Lee Ailing, Adrienne (Graz) Shipman, Lon (Adrienne) Ailing and Leslie (Tracy) Ailing, along with 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Raymond & Corella LeSage; brothers: Gary LeSage and Darrell (Happy) LeSage; sisters: Joan Jones and Rayona Eson; son, Lance Ailing; and grandson, Zaagidwin Shipman.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 28 beginning at 6 p.m. at The Neeganageezhic Ceremonial Building and continuing until Thursday, May 30 at 10 a.m.
Traditional ceremonies will be Wednesday evening, May 29. Her final resting place wil be Mission Hill cemetery.

Helen Vournakis
There will be a graveside service for Helen Vournakis, 97, of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., at Riverside cemetery on Thursday, May 30, at 10 a.m. She passed away on November 16, 2001.
Vincent Lewis
Vincent H. Lewis, 87, of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening, July 24, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born January 15, 1915, in Escanaba, the son of Grover and Catherine (Rousseau) Lewis. Vincent was a life-long resident of Escanaba. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and Escanaba High School, graduating in 1934.
He was employed with L&L Trucking until 1958, Stang Tank Line until 1976, and then CBC Labs until his retirement in 1994.
Vincent H. Lewis married
Dorothy "Dottie" Joki on January 16, 1937, at St. Patrick's Church in Escanaba.
Vincent enjoyed going to the casino to play slots and also loved playing cards. He was a member of the Teamsters and a 60-year life member, Exalted Ruler, Past Elk of the Year, and Past Officer of the Year for the Elks Lodge 354. Vincent was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
Vincent is survived by: his wife of 65 years, Dottie; three sons, Dean Vincent (Bette) of Escanaba; Richard of Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Michael (Mary Beth) of Crown Pointe, Indiana; four daughters, Sandra (Richard) Hiss of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Linda (Jack) Shaski and Susan (Brent) Belleau of Sault Ste. Marie; and Patricia (Robert) Roch of Inverness, Florida; 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
Vincent was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary; two sisters, Catherine Potvin and Jeanette McGee; and a brother, Herbert Lewis.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Elks Lodge 354 memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Parish prayers will be recited at 6:30 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba with Rev. Arthur Parotta officiating. A luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall. Entombment will take place at Gardens of Rest cemetery.
Pearl Lamma
Pearl Marion Lamma, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Sunday, September 8, 2002 at her home. She was born on August 12, 1922 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
She was a member of the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and also TOPS. She was retired as a nurses' aide, and enjoyed her grandchildren and doing various crafts.
Mrs. Lamma is survived by her son, Harvey Lamma of Menominee, Michigan; three daughters, Ilene Cargin of Vancouver, Washington; Delores Clor of Scottsdale, Arizona; LeeAnn Pulfrey of Newberry, Michigan; nine brothers and sisters, Pat Snider of Clare, Michigan; Hazel Bergeron of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Gladys Stein of Duncomb, Iowa; Helen Finner of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Bill Payment of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Vicky Jacobson of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Betty Lopes of Providence, Rhode Island; Ruth Hopper of Ionia, Michigan; Chuck Payment of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; 13 grandchildren, and 26 and a half great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lamma was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Lamma, Sr. in 1993, and a son, Alfred Lamma, Jr. in 1995, and her parents, Fred and Josephine Payment.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father Ted Brodeur. Final resting place will be at the Riverside cemetery. Maria "Nancy" Capriccioso
Maria "Nancy" Capriccioso, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan. She was born on September 8, 1915 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
A Sault Michigan resident for over 60 years, she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a former President of the St. Joseph Catholic School Parent Teacher Association, and worked as a cook in the Sault public school system. Nancy was very family oriented, deeply loving her children and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Capriccioso is survived by two sons, John M. Capriccioso of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; Richard P. (Sharon) Capriccioso of West Bloomfield, Michigan; three daughters-in-law, Marcella Capriccioso of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Linda Clos of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Sharon Capriccioso of Midland, Michigan; one brother, Anthony Provenzano of Yonkers, New York; one sister, Grace Burns of O'Fallon, Illinois; and grandchildren, Caryn Capriccioso of Boulder, Colorado; Gina Capriccioso of Louisville, Colorado; John K. Capriccioso of Chicago, Illinois; Robert Capriccioso II of Washington, D.C.; David Capriccioso of East Lansing, Michigan; Jena Capriccioso of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Christina Capriccioso of West Bloomfield, Michigan; and Richard Capriccioso II of West Bloomfield, Michigan.
She is predeceased by her husband, John Capriccioso; and two sons, David James Capriccioso and Robert Joseph Capriccioso.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Prayers will be at 8:00 p.m.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Final resting place will be the Riverside cemetery.
