John K. Allard
A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Sept. 29 for former Grosse Pointe Farms resident John K. Allard.
Mr. Allard, 67, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, in his home in Harper Woods.
Mr. Allard attended Grosse Pointe High School and served in the U.S. Army. He was a surveyor for Mason L. Brown in Detroit and retired from Cottage Hospital where he worked as a security guard.
Mr. Allard is survived by his wife, Katherine; three daughters, Diane, Deborah Sternad and Judy Chauvin; three sisters, Florence Heitzan, Mary Eichberger, Peggy Shawe; two brothers, William and Jim; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Behrend; and four brothers, Warren, Lloyd, Marvin and Sherman.
Funeral arrangements were handled by A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Eugene A. Gargaro
Eugene A. Gargaro died in his Grosse Pointe Farms home on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999 at the age of 90.
Mr. Gargaro was an officer and director of Gargaro Co. which specialized in water and sewer tunnel construction. He was also a developer of commercial and office buildings in Detroit.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; son, Gene Jr.; daughter, Carol Gargaro Lyons; and four grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated for Mr. Gargaro on Saturday, Oct. 2 at St. Paul Catholic Church. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum.

Rudolph B. Helm
Grosse Pointe Woods resident Rudolph B. Helm died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999 in Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 87.
Mr. Helm was born in Jamestown, N.Y., and was a 1930 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was the owner of Bending Specialities Co. in Warren.
Mr. Helm was a member of the Detroit Lodge No 34 of the B.P.O. Elks for 60 years where he was past exalted ruler, past state president and chairman of the major projects committee. He enjoyed bowling, golf and oil painting.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen McCormick; son, David; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Valentine; two sisters, Geneva Schaffran and Nora Adams; and two brothers, Paul and Arthur.
A funeral service for Mr. Helm was held Saturday, Oct. 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Detroit. Interment is at Gethsemane cemetery in Detroit. Funeral arrangements were handled by A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Richard G. Jantz
Grosse Pointe Farms resident Richard G. Jantz died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Beechwood Manor Nursing Home in St. Clair Shores. He was 86.
Mr. Jantz was born in Detroit and was a retired real estate investor and developer. He was a member of the Senior Men's Club of Grosse Pointe and the Grosse Pointe Farms Boat Club and enjoyed sailing.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Mary Lou and Dorothy; four sons, John, Richard, William and Thomas; a brother, Alfred; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated for Mr. Jantz on Monday, Oct. 4 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements were handled by A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods. Interment is at Mount Olivet cemetery in Detroit.

Susanne Jerger
Suzanne Jerger died in her Grosse Pointe Woods home after a lengthy illness on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1999 at the age of 72.
Mrs. Jerger was born in Detroit, was a 1951 graduate of Wayne State University and was a teacher in Eastpointe. She enjoyed reading and needlework.
Mrs. Jerger is survived by her husband, Frank; daughter, Nancy; two sons, James and Thomas; a brother, William Kamm; and two grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Jerger was held at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Peter J. Phillips
Grosse Pointe Shores resident Peter J. Phillips died of a heart attack at Bon Secours Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999.
Mr. Phillips, 83, was born in Oshkosh, Wis., and was a graduate of Southeastern High School in Detroit and attended Wayne State University. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army and was a sales manager for the Ponchatrain Hotel in Detroit.
Mr. Phillips was a Mason and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Freda; his son, Philip; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mr. Phillips was held Wednesday, Sept. 22 at A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Erich Michael Springstead
Erich Michael Springstead, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in a car accident in Traverse City. He was 20.
Mr. Springstead was born in Billings, Mont., and lived in Higgins Lake and the City of Grosse Pointe. He was a 1997 graduate of Roscommon High School and was attending Northwestern Michigan College. He played football, soccer, baseball and skied.
Survivors include his father, Michael; mother, Cheryl; sister, Erin; brother, Seann; grandparents James and Midge Robinson, and Virginia Springstead.
A funeral Mass for Mr. Springstead was held Saturday, Oct. 2 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Roscommon. Funeral arrangements were handled by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Roscommon.
Memorial donations may be sent to the family for a fund to be established in Mr. Springstead's name at Roscommon High School.
Helen Kidnie
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church at 2 p.m. for former City of Grosse Pointe resident Helen Kidnie, of Traverse City, who died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City at the age of 92.
Mrs. Kidnie is survived by her husband Raymond; daughter, Gail Matthews; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was also held Monday, Oct. 4 at the Pavilion's Chapel in Traverse City.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Burkholder Funeral Home in McBain.

Joseph Crea
Grosse Pointe Farms resident Joseph Crea died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999. He was 76.
Mr. Crea was born in Detroit, was a graduate of Detroit's Northeastern High School and attended Clemson College in South Carolina. He worked for Detroit Edison for 42 years where he was a chief systems supervisor. He served for 25 years on the Wayne County Planning Commission. He also was a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II.
Mr. Crea was a former board member and president of the St. Paul School Board, former president of the St. Paul Athletic Booster Club, lifetime member of the St. Paul Usher's Club, former basketball and football coach at St. Paul School, former coach for the Grosse Pointe Little League Association and former member and commodore of the Grosse Pointe Boat Club. He was also a member of the Engineering Society of Detroit, Grosse Pointe Garden Club and the Senior Men's Club of Grosse Pointe. He enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening.
Mr. Crea is survived by his wife, Angela; three daughters, Patricia Ritter, Linda Hynes and Diane; a son, David; a sister, Catherine; and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Josephine and brother, John.
A funeral Mass was celebrated for Mr. Crea at St. Paul Catholic Church on Thursday, Oct. 21. Interment is at St. Paul Columbarium. Funeral arrangements were handled by A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Grosse Pointe Woods.
