HELMLINGER, MARY, Age 91, passed from us on July 8, 1999 at the Romeo Nursing Center. Mary was a woman of great ambition and drive. A woman before her time. An entrepreneur, a restaurant owner, a writer, a wife, a mother and a grandmother. She owned and operated Helmlinger s Restaurant in the Warren area for over 25 years. Later opened Club Chevelle and successfully operated it for 6 years. She and her late husband, Mike, retired to the "Thumb" area on 540 acres and enjoyed raising cattle, horses and her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter Carol Taylor from Clinton Township, son Conrad and daughter-in-law Carolyn now residing in Des Moines, Iowa, eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; sister of Peter Kilbert, and daughter/cousin of Helen Willard and husband Dick. Mary had a zest for life, and gave to all around her. She wrote her first cookbook at age 80, a life long dream. It was a collection of all her favorite recipes from over the many years of her career. Her family and friends who treasured and enjoyed her company will miss her. Services will be held Monday, July 12 at 10 AM at the Lyle Elliott Funeral Home, 31730 Mound Rd. (2 blocks North of 13 Mile). Visitation at the funeral home will be Sunday, July 10 from 2-9 PM.
