KORTE, THOMAS A., passed away May 31st, 1999, (Memorial Day) after a short illness. Born on September 15, 1929 to the loving parents, Albert and Vera. Tom graduated from St. Mary s High School in Mt. Clemens and attended U of D. He served proudly in the Korean War where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He is survived by his loving and gracious wife, Marlene; his loving children, Thomas, Lisa, Mark (Gemma), Mary (David) Berg, and Ruth; also loving grandchildren, Thomas (T.J.), Emily, & Jessica, who stand as a legacy to his life. He is also survived by his brother Robert, and his twin sister, Louise, who will "always be his twin." The deep affection of his legion of his friends, and the respect of his associates, attest to his caring and loving nature. An avid golfer, great husband, father, and grandfather will be sorely missed. Memorials may be made to the Matt Gaberdy Foundation. SCHAAFSMA, SYBRANT J. Age 74, May 31, 1999, of Montague, formerly of Grosse Pointe Park. Beloved husband of Miriam Jane (nee Cooke). Loving father of Mary Helen Schaafsma of Chicago, Simothy Sybrant (Krista) Schaafsma of Grand Rapids, Jane Elizabeth Schaafsma of Chicago, James Edward (Nancy VanderKuyl) Schaaftsma of Ann Arbor. Grandfather of Allison Rachel, Rebecca Anne and Elizabeth Clare Schaafsma, all of Grand Rapids. Also many loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Sybrant and Bertha (Eerdmans) Schaafsma, and brothers Garrit and Bernard Schaafsma. Mr. Schaafsma worked in retail managment in the Detroit area 40 years, retiring in 1987, was a WWII Army Veteran, attended Calvin College and graduated from U of M. Visitation at Sytesma Funeral Home 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI Thursday 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services 11 a.m. Friday at Bethany Christian Reformed Church. For a more lasting memorial, please consider C.R.W.R.C., Bread for the World, or Crossroads, an outreach ministry in Detroit.
