Blanche E. Howard
Mrs. Blanche E. Howard, 89, of Vanderbilt, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, at the Fenton Extended Care Facility in Fenton, MI. Mrs. Howard was born May 13, 1904, in Brimley, had lived most of her life in Sault Ste. Marie and moved to Vanderbilt in 1969. She was a member of the Vanderbilt Community Church. In 1931 she married
Vernard Howard, he preceded her in death in 1987. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Elaine Burke and Helen Evans and 1 brother, Frank Forrest. Mrs. Howard is survived by her children Jack (Carole) Howard of Freemont, CA; Jeanne (Allen) Howard of Zellwood, FL; Donald (Donna) Howard of Burton, MI. 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Hazel Wowak of Chicago, IL. Funeral Services were held Thursday, April 15, 1999 at 2:00 p,.m, from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Boyd, officiated. Burial will be in Evergreen Hills cemetery in Vanderbilt. Janette R. Lukas
Janette R. Lukas, 13, died Saturday, July 29, 2000 at Otsego Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Port Huron on January 21, 1987, she was an 8th grader at the Gaylord Middle School. Her friends were her circle of fun. Surviving are her parents, Pamela Lukas of Gaylord and William (Dawn) Pelton of Barryton; 2 brothers, Jacob Lukas of Gaylord and Owen Pelton of Barryton. Maternal grandmother, Marlene Lukas of Vanderbilt; special uncle, Douglas Lukas of Alganac. Also, several aunts, uncles, cousins and step siblings. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, August 1st from the United Methodist Church in Gaylord, the Rev. Daniel McVey officiated. Susanne A. Finnerty
Susanne A. Finnerty, 16, of Elmira died Sunday, July 30, 2000 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Susanne was born May 30, 1984 in Petoskey. She was a 10th grader at Gaylord High School. She loved to sing and write poety. Susanne is survived by her mother and step-father, Susan and Dennis Kucharek of Elmira; 11 brothers and sisters: Cinnamon Finnerty of Cadillac, Spencer, Ben, Nathan, Adam and Angela Finnerty all of Gaylord. Erik and Derek Kucharek all of Gaylord. Grandmother, Barb Johns of Cadillac; 3 nephews, Blake, Dylan and Dakota. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Leroy Finnerty in 1997. She was also preceded in death by her sister Susan J. Finnerty and her grandfather Kent Johns. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2000 from the First United Methodist Church, Rev. Scott Los, officiating. Jason L. Mead
Jason L. Mead, 21, of Gaylord, died Sunday, July 30, 2000 in Big Rapids due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Jason was born September 15, 1978 in Reed City and was raised in the Gaylord area. Her was a 1997 graduate of Gaylord High School and was currently attending Ferris State University majoring in music industry management. He was active in track, football, basketball, hockey and was a member of the Lacrosse Team at FSU. He was a member of the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church Youth Group and the TLFC Group. Jason was a member of a band in Gaylord and Big Rapids. He is survived by his parents; Dr. Ronald and Lori Mead of Gaylord; sister, Kristin of Gaylord; paternal grandparents: Don and Alberta Mead of Ovid, maternal grandparents, Walt and Marilyn Miller of Elsie; maternal great grandmother Lila Miller of Ashley. Aunts and uncles, Brenda (Tim) Miller Quine of Banister, Carrie Hire of Banister, Scott (Jane) Miller of Elsie, Ray Mead of Lansing and Wayne Mead of Punta Gorda, FL. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, August 2, 2000 from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Rev. James Mathis officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery in Gaylord. Lawrence J. Welling
Mr. Lawrence J. Welling, 90 of Vanderbilt, died Sunday, November 19, 2000. Mr. Welling was born in Wolverine on March 2, 1910 and he lived most of his life in Vanderbilt. He and his wife had moved to the Alten Zimmer Senior Center in Gaylord of 1998. Mr. Welling had retired from Quigley Industries in Vanderbilt after 10 years of service. Prior to that, he worked at Higgins Industries and was a bus driver for the Vanderbilt School. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Mr. Welling was a member of the Wolverine American Legion #122, and the Vanderbilt Community Church. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home, Rev. John Naile, officiating. Burial will be in Silver Lake cemetery in Wolverine. Mr. Welling is survived by his wife, Carrie; 2 children; John (Marie) Welling of Bethlehem, PA and Elsie (John) Konopaski of Vanderbilt. 8 grandchildren: Patricia (James) Reinhold, Amy (Ken) Craft, Beck (Mike) Fornell, Jim Welling, Jerry Belanger, Renee (Jay) Savell, Mary (John) Peterson and John (Kim) Konopaski. 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; 3 sisters; Lova Wells and Marie (Willard) Howe, both of Cheboygan, and Lenna Young of Luna Pier, MI. 2 sisters-in-law; Helen Sherman and Helen Sharrow. Mr. Welling was preceded in death by 1 great granddaughter, Jennifer. Julianne Y. Johnson
Julianne Y. Johnson, 20 of Gaylord, died Friday, January 17, 2003. Julie was born and raised in Gaylord. She graduated from Gaylord High School in 2001 and was pursuing a Cosmetology degree from Kirtland Community College. Julie was active in gymnastics and was proud of her gymnastic awards earned in the Silver Championship Category. She loved animals. While in school, she was cheerleader and played basketball. She also loved the water and enjoyed jet skiing and boating. Julie was employed by S&K and Mooney’s in Gaylord as an Assistant Manager. She is survived by her parents, Steve and Debbie of brother, Joshua (Samantha) and nephew, Dakota Johnson all of Gaylord. Paternal grandparents, Dale and Beverly Johnson and maternal grandparents Betty and Leo Liddy and James Lynch all of Gaylord. Great grandfather, Hubert Pierce of Tawas City. Aunts and uncles Kevin (Darce) Johnson, Kris Neil, Michelle Lynch and Jamie Lynch all of Gaylord, and many cousins, great aunts and great uncles. Funeral Services for Julianne Johnson were held on Monday, January 20, 2003, from the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Rev. James Mathis officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Joyce E. Ralston
Joyce E. Ralston, 76, of Gaylord died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. Mrs. Ralston was born in Detroit on September 29, 1926 and was raised in Vanderbilt. She was a woman of “strong faith”. For 50 years she had been a “born again” Christian and has been attending the Vanderbilt Baptist Church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Mrs. Ralston enjoyed crocheting quilting, and gardening. Most important to her was her family. On April 6, 1942 in Saginaw she married
Clarence A. Ralston, who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Jim (Margaret) of Oklahoma, Mary Norton & Terry (Michelle) all of Gaylord; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Burill of St Helen; brother, Lee (Joanne) Clapp of Clare. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Riness and her sister Kate Woodruff. Funeral Services were on Monday, July 14, 2003 Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor Jerry Woodruff, officiating. Mr. Robert Brado
Robert Brado, 74, of Posen, passed away Friday, September 19, 2003 at his home following a brief illness. Robert was born June 18, 1929 in Vanderbilt to Henry and Mabel (Sehl) Brado. He was raised in the Vanderbilt area, graduating from Vanderbilt High School in 1947. He married
Carol Welling September 4, 1954 in Gaylord. They moved to the Alpena area in 1959. Robert retired from Stoneport in 1994 after 28 years of service. He was a member of Leer Lutheran Church and Alpena Hopper Lodge #199 F&AM. Mr. Brado is survived by his wife, Carol, children; Susan (Walter) Jackowiak of Lachine, Donald (Gail) Brado of Lachine, Cheryl (Mark) Freske of Rogers City; eight grandchildren; Robert (Laurie) Jackowiak, Krystal Jackowiak, James (Heather) Brado, Jennifer Brado, William Brado, Karen Freske, Becky Freske, Alan Freske, a sister; Marion Henry of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada; mother-in-law; Helen Sharrow of Gaylord and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Marjorie Loshaw, Maxine Weiberg, and three brothers; Donald, Harold, and Kermit. Funeral Services for Mr. Brado were held at Leer Lutheran Church, Rev. Daniel E. Deutsch officiating. Burial in church cemetery.
Leslie Hill
Mr. Leslie Hill, 53, of Vanderbilt, died Saturday, November 8, 2003. He was born in Royal Oak on August 10, 1950. He moved to the Otsego Lake area and spent most of his time in the Otsego County area. Mr. Hill worked as a meat cutter for Circle M Ranch and later worked for Heartland Distributors. He was an avid hunter, a Vanderbilt Lions Club member, and he loved his family dearly. He is survived by his wife, Doreen; children Brent & Kylie, Stacy & Joe, Jeremy & Sarah, and Stephanie and Rob. Stephen Charles Koenig
Stephen Charles Koenig, 52, of Gaylord, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003. Stephen was born on Oct. 24, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from University of Detroit in 1969 and from the University of Michigan with a degree in journalism in 1973. He wrote for the Cadillac Evening News from 1976 to 1979, the Traverse City Record Eagle from 1979 to 1983 and OUR HOME TOWN Newspaper from 1984 to 1985. He was an avid skier and ski instructor and enjoyed sailing, photography, reading, and car racing. He was a member of Gaylord Evangelical Free Church. Stephen has given hope to many other brain tumor patients through his 22-year survival of brain cancer with his survivor story posted with the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Information. He was thankful to see his children grow up and graduate from high school and go to college. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Bud” Koenig; his grandparents Carl and Norma Koenig and Emma and Arch Montague; and niece Kirsten Irene Heacock. Marian E. Oliver
Marian E. Oliver, 78, of Vanderbilt, died Monday, February 16, 2004 at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord. Mrs. Oliver was born June 3, 1925 in Ypsilanti, the daughter of Alvin D. and Mabel (Gault) Maulbetsch. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Vanderbilt High School in 1943. Mrs. Oliver retired in 1988 after a long career as administrative secretary for the Vanderbilt Area School. For many years she served as treasurer as well as organist and member of the choir at the Vanderbilt Community Church. She also held the position of clerk for the Village of Vanderbilt and Corwith Township for many years, and was a lifetime member of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Oliver will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Mrs. Oliver is survived by her four loving children and their spouses: Connie and Harvey Letson of Vanderbilt; Michael and Jacqueline Oliver of Austin, MN, Patrick and Erma Oliver of Kensington NH, and Bailey and Delores Oliver of Potterville. She is also survived by one sister, Marjorie and her husband Joe Ozimek of Taylor; and a brother Jack Maulbetsch and his wife, Zola, of Vanderbilt. Mrs. Oliver is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Oliver leaves nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild who were the delight of her life. Her granddaughter Becki (Kent) Strawderman was her primary and loving caregiver in her home for the past seven years. Calling hours at the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord are today, Wednesday, Feb. 18, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Vanderbilt Community Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19, the Rev. Fred Nose officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Vanderbilt Community Church.
Marion Augusta Cyzkoski
Mrs. Marion Augusta Cyzkoski, age 85, of Vanderbilt, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Rochester, New York, while staying the winter with her son in New York. Marion was born in Vanderbilt on August 18, 1920. She had been a cook for the Vanderbilt School System, the Methodist Church camps, private clubs in the Pigeon River Association and most recently, the Northern Michigan Livestock Association. Marion was a very caring and generous woman, whose acts of kindness were many. She was a life-long member of the Vanderbilt Community Church. She is survived by her children: Michael Cyzkoski and Linda (Junior) Barnes both of Vanderbilt; Patrick (Paige) Cyzkoski of Boise, Idaho, Richard Gault of Kuna, Idaho, Robert (Barb) Gault of Rochester, NY, Dawn (Tom) Glazier of Boise, Idaho. 3 stepchildren, Orville Cyzkoski Jr. of Wolverine & Texas, Linda (Junior) Barnes of Vanderbilt and Sharon (Robert) Glazier of Boise, Idaho. Several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville E. Czykoski, Sr. on August 13, 1995, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and her stepdaughter Betty Powers. Funeral Services for Marion Augusta Cyzkoski were held Friday, March 10, 2006 from the Nelson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in ths spring at Evergreen Hills cemetery in Vanderbilt.
Phyllis E. West
Phyllis E. West, 82, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, March 2, 2006. Mrs. West was born December 31, 1923 in Vanderbilt, Michigan, the daugther of Everett and Florence (Lewis) Davis. Mrs. West was a former Wave of WWII, a homemaker and involved in the Eaton Special Riding Program. She was known as Grandma Phyllis when she worked in daycare from 1989 to 1992. Mrs. West enjoyed traveling to Germany and Europe with her mother and then later by herself. She loved family reunions and playing cards. She is survived by her son, Mel West of LaPorte, Indiana; daughter Alana (Mike) Stahl of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren, Scott West, Christopher Sand and Adam Sheets; brother, Leonard (Marion) Davis of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral Services were held March 4, 2006 at the Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, Michigan with Reverend Carol Spangenburg officiating. Interment will be at Ft. Custer cemetery in Augusta, Michigan.
MacGregor, Robert D.III
Mr. Robert D. ‘Dee’ MacGregor III, age 60 of Vanderbilt, died on Thursday, April 17, 2008. He was born in Grayling on September 26, 1947 to Robert and Mildred (Dunckley) MacGregor. Robert graduated from Benzie Central High School and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service. He also worked for Consumers Power at Big Rock Nuclear Power for 17 years. He enjoyed woodworking, clock making and fixing just about anything. Robert loved to travel and loved his motorcycle. He was the best dad and grandfather anyone could ask for. He was a good friend to many and was very much loved. He will be missed by all. Robert is survived by his wife Marta (Gurden) MacGregor; children, Corrie (Dwayne)Smolarz of Gaylord, Jaime MacGregor of Petoskey, and Robert IV, (Amber Gibson) of Gaylord; three grandchildren, Aaron, Alex and Brayden Michael; two brothers, Philip (Patricia) and Patrick (Carlene); mother and father-in-law, Leston and Pauline Gurden of North Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. William ‘Bill’ Ernest Boyd
Mr. William ‘Bill’ Ernest Boyd of Hartland, near South Lyon, MI, formerly of Gaylord, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 peacefully in his sleep at home. Bill was born in Wyandotte, lived in Northville from 1954 to 1984, then moved to Gaylord from 1984 to 2002, and returned south to Hartland from 2002. Bill was born to Ellsworth Ernest and Eileen (Nottingham) Boyd on October 9, 1933. He married
Mitsue ‘Miki’ Asano on Sept. 3, 1954 enjoying 53 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife Micky and son Kenneth (Carol) Boyd, all of Hartland. He was preceded in death by his parents and a younger sister Lois Jean Boyd. He had many family and friends in the Vanderbilt and Gaylord area. He owned Ramsey’s Bar in Northville, and was a life member of the VFW Post 4012 in Northville. He enjoyed woodworking and was known to be very creative. He also like to hunt and travel all over the United States with his loving wife ‘Miki’. Bill served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Casterline Funeral Home in South Lyon, MI, Reverend Matthew M. Coleman officiating. Mrs. Shirley Jane Buchholz
Mrs. Shirley Jane Buchholz of Vanderbilt passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008 at home. She was 73. Shirley was born in Grand Rapids on Oct 24, 1934. She loved camping and spending time with her family. On Oct 12, 1968 in Gaylord she married
Ronald E. Buchholz, who survives. She is also survived by her children: David Jenkinson of Vanderbilt, Cathy Brink of Vanderbilt, Mary (Don) Howard of Vanderbilt, Linda Knoch of Alanson and Tracy Matts of Belgium. 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren with “one on the way” in July, 1 great great granddaughter and 4 brothers: Virgil & Robert Hilliker of Alaska, Kenneth Wilson of Charlevoix, Stuart Wilson of Wisconsin She was preceded in death by her son Steve Jenkinson, brothers Edward and Loren Hilliker, parents Kenneth & Vivian Wilson, and mother in law Lillian Pomarzynski. FUNERAL SERVICES were held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 11am from the Vanderbilt Community Church, Pastor Joe Sereno, officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. Arthur S. Erat
Arthur S. Erat, 94, of Vanderbilt, died on Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Beloved husband for 65 years of Violet, brother of Lillian Mikolon, dear father of Rosalyn (Robert) Benson, Sharon (Albert) Fosco and Linda (Albert) Sidell. Also survived by seven grandchildren, Peter (Heather), Leah and Patrick Fosco, Allison (Dominic) Villella, Derek, Kody (Samantha) and Clayton J. Sidell, three great-grandchildren, Mia and Amelia Villella and Tyler Sidell, and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by brothers Henry and William, and grandson Michael Benson. Arthur was born in Detroit. He was an active union organizer in the Detroit machine industry and later retired from working as a salesman and jewelry repair person at Charles Warren/Dayton Hudson in downtown Detroit. Arthur enjoyed participation in Holy Cross Lutheran church as an usher, school board member, and youth baseball coach. He also participated in many bowling leagues and was an officer in several of them. When he retired to live in Vanderbilt, he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher. He spent the last 25 years living in the country, spending time with family and friends, growing vegetables, transforming the property around his home and enjoying the beauty of northern Michigan. A memorial service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 30. Betty Gouthier
Mrs. Betty J. (Harker) Gouthier, 82, died Dec. 5, 2009 at her home in Vanderbilt, with her daughters at her side following a 17 month battle with lung cancer. She was born Jan. 20, 1927 in Gaylord and in 1950 she married
the love of her life Harold J. Gouthier, who preceded her in death 29 years ago this week. Together they built and operated the Elkland Motel until his death in 1980. Betty also worked at Cooper Standard and retired in the early 1970’s after more than 20 years. She loved horses and last rode in October 2008 at the age of 81. She enjoyed bingo, working outdoors, reading, and most of all her family. She was a very giving, hard-working, strong-willed lady and will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Dianne M. (John) Wren and Linda (Gary) Hayman. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Larry Grizzel, Stacy Philips and Ginger and Ty Hayman. Per her request, services will be held at the Vanderbilt Community Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday Dec. 9, 2009. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Hill cemetery in Vanderbilt. The family extends their greatest appreciation for the care provided by Hospice of Michigan and Otsego Memorial Hospital, during a difficult time. Miyako 'Micki' Calkins
Miyako “Micki” Calkins, age 78, of Gaylord, died February 10, 2011 at Hiland Cottage in Petoskey. She was born in Japan on March 29, 1932. She moved from Northville, MI to Vanderbilt in 1960. Micki was employed at Standard Products from 1965-1992 and enjoyed doing puzzles and knitting. She is survived by her sisters, Chiyoe Sakamoto and Tosuko Matsuda; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Kincaid on October 12, 1968; and by her second husband, George Calkins on February 27, 1995. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will take place on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home, Pastor John Bifoss of the Vanderbilt Community Church officiating. James Blair Jr.
James Edward Blair Jr. age 70 of Vanderbilt passed away Friday April 12, 2013 in Foley Alabama with wife Nancy and best friend Robert Strange at his side. Born July 15, 1942 he was the oldest child of James Sr. and Lois (Carroll) in Detroit Michigan. Jim graduated with Wayne Memorial High School’s class of 1960, on August 20, 1960 he married
Nancy (Dechert). Together they had four children Robin (Doug) Cary, Rhonda (Rick) Berdan, James (Marilyn Payne), and Kenneth (Kathy Thompson). Jim worked for Ford Motor Company Dearborn Engineering for 30 years retiring at age 49. Upon retirement he and Nancy moved to Vanderbilt where he built her the home of her dreams on a hill. His love of golfing and skiing landed him a part-time position at Treetops Resort for 14 years as well as positions at the Loon Golf Resort, Marsh Ridge Resort and Black Bear Golf Course. A talented guitar player Jim loved playing music and singing with his friends and family. He is survived by his wife Nancy, children, 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Vanderbilt Community Church at 11 am, with a celebration of life following at the Corwith Township Hall in Vanderbilt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vanderbilt Community Church in him memory.
Terry Loshaw
Terry Loshaw, age 66, a lifelong resident of Vanderbilt, passed away on April 13, 2013 in Winter Haven, Florida. Terry was born August 30, 1946 to Ray and Marjorie (Brado) Loshaw. He was a 1964 graduate of Vanderbilt High School and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1966-1969, Vietnam from 1967-1968. Terry began work at H&H Tube Mfg. in Vanderbilt on September 6, 1977 and retired on February 27, 2009. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Terry is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joyce (Green) Loshaw; daughter, Valerie (Greg) House; son, Patrick (Andrea) Loshaw; grandchildren, Nicholas and Heather House, Madeleine, Amelia and Ella Loshaw; brother, Robert (Diana) Loshaw; sister, Johanna (Dave) Chafer; sister-in-law, Rheta (Harold) Loshaw and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Terry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard, Larry and Harold Loshaw. Terry loved to travel and enjoyed baseball, basketball and football. His quick wit and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 4:00 PM at the Gaylord Evangelical Free Church, Pastor Joe Sereno, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday (May 4) from 3:00 PM until the time of services at 4:00 PM. Robert Lee Loshaw
Robert Lee Loshaw, 72, peacefully passed away on January 8, 2014, at the U-M Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Robert was born March 11, 1941 to Ray and Marjorie Loshaw in Vanderbilt, Michigan. During his high school years, Robert was active in sports excelling in football, basketball and baseball. In 1960, Robert tried out for the Detroit Tigers during spring training. He was invited to return the next spring, but instead married
the love of his life, Diana, and started their family. His love of sports stayed with him throughout his entire life. His close group of friends attended the high school basketball state finals each year for well over 25 years. In later years, he was a top-notch armchair coach for the Tigers and Lions filling the air with colorful disagreements with the current coaching staff. He was honored to be inducted into the Greater Otsego Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. Robert worked for over twenty-five years for Oven Fresh Bakery. Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diana; two sons, Mike and Kelley Loshaw and Jim and Heather Loshaw; four daughters, Sandy and Tom Heering, Lori and Brian Pearson, Janet Anter and Bobbi and Bill Guthrie; a sister, Joanie and Dave Chafer and two sister-in-laws, Joyce Loshaw and Rheta Loshaw. Robert was blessed to have twelve wonderful grandchildren and three great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was also a beloved "treat" to his grand dogs. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Richard, Larry, Harold and Terry. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to your local blood bank or the American Red Cross, as it was donated blood that increased his quality of life during his illness.
Kendahl Brooke Glazier
Infant daughter of Eric Glazier and Leslie Korona, born Oct. 9, 2013 and died in Ann Arbor on Jan. 3, 2013 in the arms of her loving parents. Kendahl is survived by her parents, a brother Kamren Korona. She was the niece of Greg and Tabatha Glazier; Valorie Glazier and Buddy Butts; Gerrett Glazier and Toshia Butts, Chris Korona and Jamie Newhouse and Vickie Korona and many cousins. Kendahl is also survived by her grandparents Dale and Joan Glazier; Tonya and Brian Korona and great grandparents Bernard and Jeanette Prusakiewicz; Les and Jackie Brown; and Delores and Sylvester Korona. Kendahl was preceded in death by Vanetta Brown; Mel and Doris Glazier; and Morgan. Services were held at Nelson Funeral Home. Donations can be made to ‘Karing for Kendahl’ through the Awakon Credit Union. There will also be a silent auction and a benefit dinner by donation held at the Vanderbilt Community Church on January 31st from 5 to 7 p.m.
Reeta Freeborn
Reeta VanDusen Freeborn, 99, of Sault Ste. Marie passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2002, at War Memorial Hospital's Long Term Care.
Reeta is survived by two children and their spouses, David and Doreen Freeborn, and Susan and Vic Trombley of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Her grandchildren include; Robert Freeborn of New York City, Tim Freeborn of Dearborn, Michigan, Terri Parker of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Vicki and Roger Kaley of Traverse City, Michigan, Mike Trombley of Pelston, Michigan, and Jay and Brenda Trombley of Westland, Michigan. Her great grandchildren include Matthew Parker, Hannah Trombley, and Jacob Trombley.
Reeta was preceded in death by Earl M. Freeborn, her husband of 54 years. Also preceding Reeta in death are her sister and brother in law Jerry and Arthur Killin, and her great grandchild Jasper Kaley.
Reeta was born July 1, 1903 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, to David and Margaret VanDusen. She graduated from Sault High in 1921 and went on to pursue her teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. She returned to the Sault and taught for 39 years.
Reeta and her husband Earl were USFSA judges for the Hiawatha Skating Club. She was very active in the Historical Society of Sault Ste. Marie and Michigan. Reeta was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church where she served in many capacities over the years. She belonged to the War Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Retired Teachers and People to People. She has been recognized for many other accomplishments in the community.
A memorial service in celebration of Reeta's life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Wednesday November 13, 2002 at 2:00 P.M..officiated by Reverend Russell Murphy. Interment will take place at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorials may be left to War Memorial Hospital's Long term Care or St. James Episcopal Church. Robert L. Williams
Robert L. Williams of Sault Ste Marie died Sunday, November 10,2002.
Bob was born June 3, 1917 in Cadi11ac, Michigan. He founded and owned Williams Sporting Goods located in Cadillac, Michigan, and passed the business on to his son, Mart in 1982. He moved to Kelden with his wife Dorothy in 1993.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and wife and is survived by his son, Mart (Teresa) Williams of Cadillac, and their children, Jeremy and Marty. Bob is also survived by his daughter Adele (Crit) Holland of Sault Ste Marie and their children Abbie, Dylan, and Greta.
A memorial service will be held in Cadi11ac at a later date. Hovie Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Donna Mercer
Donna C. Mercer passed away after battling cancer for 29 years, at War Memorial Hospital on Friday, November 8, 2002.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 14, 1953. Donna sponsored the Mercer Mavericks hockey team. She was also involved with many other organizations throughout her life.
Donna is survived by her husband, Craig. She has seven brothers and sisters, and 19 nieces and nephews who also survive.
There will be no services held by her request. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sault Hockey Association.

Sylvia Johnston
Sylvia Johnston, age 52, of Kincheloe, Michigan passed away Saturday, August 31, 2002 at Marquette General Hospital.
Sylvia was born in Marion, Indiana on November 15, 1949, the daughter of the late Robert and Jean Elizabeth Cloud. For many years, she worked grooming pets. Within the last year, she was becoming more active with the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching movies, and working with animals. She loved living in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
She is survived by two daughters, Lisa (Don) Johnston-Bilger of Traverse City, Michigan and Michelle (Robert) Duran of Kincheloe, Michigan; a son, Michiel W. (Lindsey) Johnston of Kincheloe, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Tia, Deanna, Ashton Lynn, Robert, Ricky, Makayla, and Mya; and her husband, Michiel D. Johnston.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2002 at Hovie Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Funeral Home with Deacon Bill Piche officiating. Burial will be at the Kinross Lakeside cemetery.
Dolores Fisher
Dolores Jean (Gibbons) Fisher, 70, of Drummond Island, Michigan passed away after a lengthy illness at 11:15 a.m. on January 27, 2003 at Mackinac County Long Term Care Facility in St. Ignace, Michigan. She was born September 25, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan.
Dolores has been a resident of Drummond Island for the past 31 years, moving from Toledo, Ohio. She was a cook for the Drummond Island Senior Citizens for several years in the 1970s. Dolores enjoyed working word puzzles, keeping her home immaculate and caring for her beloved cat, Baby Cakes.
Dolores is survived by one son, Alex (Linda) Fisher of DeTour, Michigan; three daughters: Janet Davidovich of Drummond Island, Michigan, Josie (Richard) Benoit of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Bobbi Dee (Michael) O'Grady of Cheboygan, Michigan; 10 grandchildren: Lisha Slater, Jessica Fountain, Michele Fisher, Kyle Fisher, Gary Benoit, Jared Benoit, Kelli O'Grady, Nathan O'Grady, Cory Hall and Claire Savoie; and three great-grandchildren: Katie Slater, Rachelle Fountain and Justin Fountain. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas (Shelby) Gibbons of Drummond Island, Michigan and Michael Gibbons of DeTour, Michigan; and two sisters, Rosemary Wright of Drummond Island, Michigan and Elaine (Marvin) Chard of Pickford, Michigan.
Dolores was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Gibbons; her mother, Evelyn Thon; her sister, Marie Church; her brother, Patrick Gibbons; and her grandson, Bobby Glasser.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 31st at 11:30 a.m. at St. Florence Catholic Church on Drummond Island, Michigan with Father Jacek Wtyklo celebrant. Friends may call at the church from 10:30 until time of services. Burial will be in the Drummond Island cemetery in the spring.
