SANDS, EARL E., December 22, 1920 - October 7, 1999. survived by his wife of 54 years, Beatrice P. Sands, children E. Michael (Cheryl) of Bedias TX, M. Martha (Laura) of Clawson, Matthew D. (Judy) of Cadillac, Paul M. (Janet) of Arroyos Seco, N.M. Everfaithful Newfoundland Angel and sister Virginia Hayward of Ann Arbor. Also survived by ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many grand-dogs. Preceded in death by parents Michael J. and Ida Bates, a sister Dorothy Seery. Earl was raised in Pleasant Ridge and graduated from St. Mary s Royal Oak High School in 1938. He continued his education at Edison Institute of Technology in Greenfield Village graduating in 1942 as an Agricultural Engineer. Before beginning employment at Ford Motor Co. during WW II, he served as an Ordinance and Munitions officer with the 509th Composite Group (Enola Gay) on Tinian in the Pacific. He continued employment with Ford Motor Co. in the Tractor and Implement division and retired in 1980 with 35 years of service. He delighted in working with tractors and maintained the School athlete Fields and Dad s Club Ice Skating Rings during his 17 yrs. as a member of Precious Blood Parish in Detroit as well as his services to elderly neighbors as their snowplower. As an Algonac resident since 1972, he continued to plow snow for elderly neighbors and acquaintances because it was the neighborly thing to do until his declining health in 1998. Named as 1997 Algonac Citizen Of The Year, he was honored for his years of Civic involvement which began in the city s Urban Renewal Years. He is a past member of the Algonac Zoning Appeal Board, City Planning Commission, St. Clair County Economic Development Commission, St. Clair County Solid Waste Management Board as well as a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, and 50 yr. member of American Society of Agricultural Engineers. His Love of God, Country, Family and Animals is well known in the community and he will be a cherished memory in the lives of all that knew him. WALKER, PHILIP MICHAEL 52, of Ann Arbor (formerly Detroit), died October 5, 1999. He was preceded in death by his father Frank Walker (of West Virginia) and sister Barbara Diane Walker. Surviving relatives are his children, Melissa Walker and Philip Michael Walker, Jr. of Detroit, his mother, Megan Walker and sister Irene Delyth Balmer of Ann Arbor. He leaves dear friend and "buddy" Paula Burnett, and numerous friends and extended family members. Mike served in the U.S. Army, including 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Mike s gentle, loving presence will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He devoted his life to serving others. What Mike had he gave away freely. He was a talented, creative and sensitive soul who loved nature and had a unique ability to connect with the animal world. Now in mid life he was beginning to express his true nature. A sudden turn, from an accidental fall, has taken him beyond our earthly vision, yet his love continues to bless us all. Visitation will be at theMuehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor, MI, Friday, October 8, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., with a prayer vigil at 8 p.m. A grave side service will be led by Rev.
