Barten, 61 of Hattisburg, who died May 18, 2000 at his home after a lengthy illness. The Rev. Barry Dickerson will officiate. Born in Kalkaska, MI, Mr Barten received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Central Michigan UNiversity, Mt. Pleasant, in 1960, and his Master of Hospital Administration from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1968. He retired from healthcare administration in Michigan in 1997 and relocated to Hattiesburg with his wife where he ws an adjunct professor at The University of Southern Mississippi and healthcare consultant. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick John Barten. Survivors include his wife Joan L. Exline, PHD, of Hattiesburg, Daughter Robin King of Fenton, MI. Mother Francys Caswell of Mt. Pleasant, MI and a sister Sally Wilson of St. Louis, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer Freeman M.D. in 1977. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Hadasa in Detroit, MI and several Medical Auxiliaries.
