BARBOUR, MARIAN E., Age 86. Died Friday, April 3, 1998, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral Service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 6, 1998 at Court Street United Methodist Church, with Reverend Steven J. Buck officiating. Entombment at Flint Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the Dodds-Dumanois Funeral Home, 901 Garland St., Flint, from 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday. The family asks that contributions be made in lieu of flowers, to the Court St. United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Crossover Downtown Outreach Ministry, or the Dr. Fleming A. or Marian E. Barbour Scholarship Endowment Fund at UofM Flint. Mrs. Barbour was born in Jackson, MI on June 12, 1911, the daughter of Lacerne V. and Nellie (Purdy) Patch. She had lived in Flint most of her life. She married Dr. Fleming A. Barbour on June 21, 1936, and together they celebrated over 61 years or marriage. Mrs. Barbour was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church and had belonged to many service organizations throughout the Flint area, including the American Medical Association Auxiliary, in which she was the first person in Flint to hold office for. She was active in the Genesee County Medical Society Auxiliary and was a secretary for the American Medical Association Auxiliary. Mrs. Barbour did volunteer work for The United Way, Flint International Institute, YMCA, Red Cross and Crossroads Village, and also many other community organizations. She was co-chairman of the Flint Committee Welcoming International Visitors and also donated two weeks a year with her husband, Dr. Fleming A. Barbour, going to Third World countries, especially Honduras, and also Dominican Republic, Taiwan, India and Algeria, with the Christian Medical Society, giving eye care to the people of those countries. Mrs. Barbour was also an avid bicycle enthusiast, frequently participating in P.A.L.M. (Peddling Across Lower Michigan). She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Surviving are her loving family members: husband, Dr. Fleming A. Barbour of Flint; son, David Barbour and wife, Nancy, of Alexandria, VA; daughter, Elizabeth Stine and husband, Dr. Patrick Stine, of Middlebury, VT; son, Philip Barbour and wife, Margaret, of Huron, OH; seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Forrest Patch of Jackson, MI.

BOYD, JAMES F., Of Charlevoix, age 71, departed this life on March 21, 1998 while wintering in Sun City, Florida. A Navy veteran of WWII he was President and Owner of Experi-Metal Plastics in Sterling Heights, MI until he sold the firm and retired to the Charlevoix area in 1988. Formerly married to Roberta Boyd, beloved father of Patrick M. Boyd of Richmond, MI survived by two loving sisters Patricia Bentley, Port Charlotte, FL and Kimberly Zuehlke of Escanaba, MI two grandchildren Angel and Makenzie Boyd; three nieces, Jeanette Forest of Commerce Twp., Jacqi and Holli Hall of Ann Arbor, MI A grandniece Stacey Schoeder, a grandnephew Troy Joseph Forest both of Commerce Twp. He was the nephew of Betty Monroe and cousin to Sue Morrish and Sandy Brady of Charlevoix, MI By his plan and wishes he was cremated in Florida. His ashes will be returned to Michigan for Interment. Plans for a memorial service are incomplete at this time. It is the wish of the family that memorials be gifted to The Diabetes Foundation in his name.
