Suzanne Kay "Suzie" Stimer

Coldwater - Suzanne Kay "Suzie" Stimer, age 49, of Coldwater, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at her home following a long illness.
She was born December 2, 1954 in Sturgis, daughter of Paul and Beverly (Arney) Wagaman and lived most of her life in Branch County. She graduated in 1971 from Colon High School and had worked several years as a secretary. She later attended Kellogg Community College and became a Registered Nurse, working in Kalamazoo and Battle Creek Hospitals. She was then hired to work at both Lakeland and Crane Prisons in Coldwater where she became second shift nursing supervisor.
Suzie married Dennis Stimer on December 19, 1986 in Cioldwtaer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha, a Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer of the Sunday School. She was also a member and served many years as Treasurer of the Tekonsha Athletic Boosters.
Her many hobbies included needlework, reading, crafts, sewing, ceramics, cooking an baking. She recently baked cookies for the children's ball game.
Surviving are her husband Dennis, daughters, Abigayle Stimer and Gabrielle Stimer, both at home; her Mother, Beverly Oliver of Coldwater; her sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Dave Lanning of Bronson; brother Donald Oliver II of Bronson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Sheri Oliver of Tekonsha and Thomas and Beth Oliver of Tempe, AZ; her step-father Don Oliver of Colon, step-father Dan Seymour of Kalamazoo; her Grandparents, Elwin and Margaret Arney of Union City, her Mother and Father-in-law, Gayle and Lillian Stimer of Jackson; her sister-in-law Kittie Manthei of Albion and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her brother Terry Oliver preceded her in death in 1997.
A Memorial Funeral Service will be held at 11 AM Friday, June 4, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha with Pastor David McGarvey officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 4 - 8 PM Thursday also at the First Baptist Church in Tekonsha where Memorial Donations may be made to a college fund for Suzie's daughters. Arrangements are by the Kolcz Funeral Home of Bronson.

Virginia C. Wilson

Bronson - Virginia C. Wilson, age 79, of Bronson, died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis.
She was born February 22, 1925 in Bronson, daughter of Frank and Bernice (Paprocki) Ludwick and was a lifelong Bronson area resident. She married Thomas Wilson on March 17, 1945 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bronson. Thomas died June 6, 1976
Virginia had worked a total of 43 years. She was first employed at the LA Darling Co. in Bronson for 14 years; then at the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis for another 29 years. She retired in 1985. Virginia was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She is also a member of hte UAW Local 797 Retirees. She enjoyed cooking and crafts.
Surviving are her daughter Constance Sue Wilson-Blomme of Maumee, Ohio; her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Donna Wilson and Franklin and Deborah Wilson all of Bronson and Tim and Linda Wilson of Golden Canyon, Arizona; 14 Grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and her sisters, Elizabeth Sielken and Nellie Hyska both of Bronson and Lillian Warkoczeski of Coldwater and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Robin Wilson , and Michele Henning; her sisters, Clara Ludwick and Wanda Rzepka and brothers, Frank Ludwick, George Ludwick and John Ludwick
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson. Prayers before Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Kolcz Funeral Home.
Visiting hours are Monday, May 10, from 4 - 8 PM at the Kolcz Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7 PM Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Rev. Fr. Evanson Njogu Mission in Kenya, Africa. Envelopes are available at the Kolcz Funeral Home.

Rosa Ong Saygan
November 5, 1921 - April 17, 2008

Location: VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale

Service: Wed., April 23, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillsdale Free Methodist Church
Memorial Contributions:St. John McComb Bi-County Hospital, Henry Ford McComb Hospital or Triumph Hospital.

Rosa Ong Saygan, 86, of Warren, Michigan and formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, at the Henry Ford Bi-County Community Hospital in Warren. She was born in Fookien, China on November 5, 1921 to Ong & Lim (Kuay) Bo. She was married in 1930 to Procopio Saygan and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Saygan was a member of the Free Methodist Church while she was a resident of Hillsdale.

Surviving are five children, Dr. Lucio (Jean) Saygan of Hillsdale, Robert (Doris) Saygan of Grosse Ile, James (Astrid) Saygan of Columbus, Ohio, Myrna (Teddy) Ulep of San Antonio, Texas and Mike (Cris) Saygan of Troy; 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Rosa Saygan will be Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at the Hillsdale Free Methodist Church with Pastor Keith Porter officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday from 6-8 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. John McComb Bi-County Hospital, Henry Ford McComb Hospital or Triumph Hospital.

Olive C. Rice

Bronson - Olive C. Rice, age 83, of Bronson, died early Tuesday morning, May 4, 2004 at the Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She had been in failing health.
Olive was born February 4, 1921 in Orleans, Indiana, daughter of Oliver and Mahala (Clements) Trinkle. She married Purl O "Buck" Rice on March 15, 1942. He died on January 15, 2003. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Bronson and an active member of the Bronson American Legion Auxiliary.
Olive retired in 1984 from the former Kirsch Company in Sturgis where she had worked for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, crossword puzzles and she loved her grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter Bonnie Megenhardt of Indianapolis, Indiana; her son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Bucky" and Esther Rice of Bronson; four grandchildren and a sister, Geneva Morris of Indianapolis.
Funeral Services celebrating the life of Olive Rice will be held at 11 AM Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Pastor Terry Siler of the First Congregational United Church if Christ officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Homer from 6 - 8 PM Wednesday where Memorial Donations may be made to the Bronson American Legion Auxiliary or to the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Wallace "Reed" Cash Jr.
April 28, 1953 - April 28, 2008

Location: Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio
Visitation: Monday, May 5, 2008 from noon until time of service
Service: Monday, May 5, at 2:00 p.m.
Memorial Contributions: May be made to the family

Reed Cash, age 55, of Alvordton, Ohio passed away Monday, April 28, 2008, at Cleveland Clinic. He was born April 28, 1953, in Adrian, Michigan to Wallace Reed and Mary Alice (Greier) Cash Sr. He married Kristine Kelso on February 21, 1986, in West Unity, Ohio and she survives.

Reed was employed at Fayette Auto Parts.

Surviving Reed besides his wife, Kristine of Alvordton is his mother, Mary Alice Trull of Leesburg, Florida; two sons, Dustin Shane Cash of Napoleon, Ohio and Jeremy Odell Cash of Bowling Green, Ohio; two grandsons, Brandon and Bradley Cash; one sister, Cathy Jo (Glen) Root of Leesburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father and step father, Bobbie Trull.

Funeral services for Reed will be Monday, May 5, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio with Pastor Crystal Goodnight officiating. Visitation will be Monday from noon until service time.

Patricia E. Ross

Bronson - Patricia E. Ross, age 59, of Bronson, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Battle Creek Health System. She had been in failing health.
Pat was born March 11, 1945 in Whiteville, North Carolina, daughter of James Homer and Doris (Dew) Ross. Her father died while she was two and a half years old, and her Mother remarried. So, Patricia was raised by her Mother and Stepfather John and Doris Sobczak.
She graduated from Hallsboro High School in Hallsboro,N.C. in 1963, then in 1967 from Pembroke State University (now Univ. of North Carolina at Pembroke). She taught school for a year in North Carolina, then moved to Michigan and taught at Quincy for three years before moving to Bronson where she has been the Home Economics Teacher for the past 35 years.
She was a member of the Michigan Education Association and the National Education Association. Pat was a well known and extremely well liked high school teacher who genuinely cared for the welfare of each and every student. She was extremely well organized and lived life on her own terms.
Surviving are her five sisters and brothers-in-law, Jeannie and Michael Galloway of Papillion, Nebraska, Josephine and Nicholas Albergo of Inverness, Florida, Doris and Wayne Bell, RoseMary and Van Davis and Anna and Jimmy Etheridge all of Whiteville, North Carolina; eight nieces; two nephews; two great nieces and two great nephews. She was preceded in death by her Father, her Mother and her Step-father.
The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson, MI from 3 - 8 PM Friday, April 30, 2004 where Memorial Donations may be made to the Home Economics Dept at Bronson High School for a special purchase in her name.
Pat will then be transferred to the Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville, North Carolina for visiting hours on Sunday, May 2, 2004 and graveside services on Monday at the Hillcrest cemetery in Waccamaw, North Carolina

Genevieve H. Rzepka

Bronson - Genevieve H. Rzepka, age 87, of Bronson, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility. She had been in failing health.
She was born September 14, 1916 in South Bend, Indiana, daughter of John and Barbara (Knapp) Albrycht and moved to Bronson with her family. Genevieve was proud to have attended the Island School near Snow Prairie Road in Branch County. She married Charles Rzepka on September 2, 1939 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson.
Prior to her marriage she did domestic housecleaning, then had worked for the former Douglas Manufacturing Company (now Douglas Autotech) until 1942. Mainly, Genevieve was a farm wife and home maker.
She was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Sacred heart Society. She enjoyed baking, an occasional trip to the casino to play the slot machines and mostly, her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband Charles, her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Daniel Junker of Bronson; son Edward L. Rzepka of Coldwater and son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Cindy Rzepka of Bronson; six Grandchidlren; six Great Grandchildren and a brother Frank Albright of Coldwater.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bernice Sikorski and Gladys Ratkowski and her brother, Henry Albright, Matthew Albright and two infant brothers.
The Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Genevieve Rzepka will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 1, 2004 at St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Bronson with Rev. Fr. Leon Pohl officiating. Prayers before Mass will be held at 10: 30 AM at the Kolcz Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 2 - 8 PM Friday where the Rosary will be recited at 7 PM Friday. Memorial Donations may be made to St. Mary' s Catholic Church.

Dolly Jane Shepherd
Quincy - Dolly Jane Shepherd, age 50, of Quincy, formerly of Bronson, died early Monday morning, April 26, 2004 at her home. She had been in failing health.
She was born October 10, 1953 in Stanford, Kentucky, daughter of Walter and Martha (Begley) Humphrey and graduated from Blufton High School. She attended Ball State University, then completed her education at Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She married Wilburn "Gene" Shepherd on April 10, 1971. The couple moved to Michigan in 1972 . He died September 7, 1993
Dolly worked for the Creal Corporation for many years, both at the former Bronson Nursing Home, then at the former Carriage Inn. She continued her employment with the change of ownership to the Laurels of Coldwater. Her illness forced her early retirement in 2001. She was a dedicated Nurse who loved her occupation and always strived to be the best that she could be.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Angola, Indiana; enjoyed playing softball, bowling and oil painting, but especially loved her family.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, candy and Jeffrey Bodine of Quincy and Penni and Jon McGuire of Bronson; daughters April Kinsey of Coldwater and Sandy Newhard and her fiancé Ross Sibery of Avilla, Indiana' her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Mary Anne Shepherd of Pleasant Lake, Indiana; 16 Grandchildren; her Mother Martha Humphrey of Blufton, IN; two sisters, Mary Lou Conrad of Sims, Indiana and Barbara LaFever of Keystone, Indiana; brothers, Mark Humphrey, Charles Humphrey, Wayne Humphrey. Kenneth Humphrey all of Blufton, IN and Hargis Sizemore of Ossian, IN and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, two brothers, Jerry Humphrey and Carlos Humphrey and two sisters, Sue Shepherd and Lena Humphrey.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Rev. Ben Sherfield officiating. Interment will follow in Bronson cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson from 5 - 8 PM Wednesday where memorial Donations may be made to the Activity Fund at the Laurels of Coldwater or to the Oncology Unit at the Community Health Center of Branch County.

Richard A. "Dick" Murray
August 30, 1928 - April 12, 2008

Richard A. "Dick" Murray, 79, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born August 30, 1928 in Hillsdale to Richard & Ruth (Scammond) Murray. He was married February 24, 1950 to Jo Ann Case and she survives.

Dick retired from WCSR in Hillsdale after 32 years of service. He was a member of the U.S. Marine Corp. serving during WWII. He was a member of the Hillsdale American Legion and the Moose Lodge, serving in both organizations for over 25 years. He was also a member of the Board of Directors for the Hillsdale Rural Fire Dept.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann, two daughters, Karen (Ralph) Crane, Toledo and Jackie (David) Bowers, Addison; three sons, James (Patsy) Murray, Hillsdale, Bryan Murray, Hillsdale and Kevin (Tabby) Murray, Hudson; 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia (Jack) Wertz, Hillsdale.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.

Funeral services for Dick Murray will be Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Dr. August Peters officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Lakeview cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the family of Dick Murray.

Clyde A. Hawley

Union City - Clyde A. Hawley, age 89, of Union City, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the Laurels of Coldwater following a several week illness.
He was born April 23, 1915 in Branch County, son of Frank and Agnes (Dovey) Hawley and was a lifelong Branch County resident. He married Mary Dean on October 14, 1939 in Coldwater. Mary died August 8, 1987.
Clyde and his wife were both very active with Branch County 4-H and both had served as 4-H Leaders for many years. They also operated an upholstery business out of their home for several years. But Clyde's main occupation was farming on the family farm; not only grain farming but also dairy cattle, sheep, hogs, raising chickens and selling eggs for many years. Clyde also served as sexton of the Batavia Township cemeteries for 17 years.
In his spare time, he enjoyed his dog, taking care of his lawn, hunting, fishing and anything to do with the outdoors.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Neil Furney of Coldwater and Betty and Leonard Kolcz of Bronson; his son John Hawley of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister Beulah Pothoof.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at the Kolcz Funeral Home in Bronson with Rev. Mona Joslyn of the First United Methodist Church of Bronson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the Kolcz Funeral Home from 5 - 8 PM Tuesday where Memorial Donations may be made to the Branch County Humane Society.
