Norma McMunn, 94, of Morenci passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. She was born on May 5, 1914, in Essex Co., Ontario, the daughter of Clarence & Myrtle (Sell) Stultz. In June of 1938 she married Virgil Shaffer. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1971. Then on December 9, 1976, in Seneca she married Leland S. McMunn. He also preceded her in death on April 25, 1988.

Norma was a homemaker living all of her married life in the Morenci area.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruanne (Larry) Ehinger of Sand Creek and Roberta (Larry) Stahl of Fairfax, Virginia; a son, Larry (Cindy) Shaffer of Morenci; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Stultz of Adrian.

Besides her husbands, Virgil Shaffer and Leland McMunn, Norma was preceded in death by her parents; a great grandson, Garrett Shaffer; a sister, Ferne Grant; and a brother, Harold Stultz.

Funeral services for Norma McMunn will be on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at noon at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Lenawee Medical Care Facility Castlewood Hall.

Lynn F. Farley
May 21, 1936 - March 25, 2009

Lynn Farley, 72, of Morenci went home in the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Fulton Co. Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio. He was born on May 21, 1936, in Seneca Twp. the son of Lewis & Gladys (Horn) Farley. On June 20, 1964, in Morenci he married Kathleen Keller and she survives.

Lynn was a life long Morenci area resident, attended Jackson Community College and graduated from Morenci High School Class of 1955. He retired from Tecumseh Products in 1999, after 42 years of service and from Goodwill Industries in Adrian in 2009, with over nine years of service. Lynn was a very active member of Morenci Bible Fellowship Church, Men's Promise Keepers, was involved in the Morenci Schools Mentoring Program, 4-H Leader, enjoyed traveling and was a devoted husband who dearly loved his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Lynn besides his wife, Kathleen are three daughters, Dawn (Mitch) Blonde of Adrian, MI, Kimberly (Scott) Bower of Britton, MI and Lynn Ann Farley of Marshall, MI; five grandchildren, Grace and Grant Blonde and Megan, Sara and Ava Bower. He was preceded in death by his parents, and foster brother, Norman Holmes.

A funeral service for Lynn will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Morenci Bible Fellowship Church with Rev. James Yatzek officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci and on Saturday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to Morenci Bible Fellowship Church.

Florence Thomas
September 4, 1917 - March 22, 2009

Florence Thomas, 91, a life long resident of the Morenci area passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Michigan. She was born September 4, 1917, in Seneca Twp., Michigan the daughter of Arthur and Birdie E. (Deline) Kutzley. She married Cleve Thomas on April 16, 1937, in Morenci and he preceded her in death on April 22, 2006.

Surviving Florence is one daughter, Sharon (Arnold) Ebersole of Eaton Rapids, Michigan; one son, Rocky Thomas of Canandaigua, Michigan; one brother, Lawrence (Luva) Kutzley of Morenci; daughter in-law, Jeannie Thomas of Morenci; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Larry Thomas, one brother, Burton Kutzley, six sisters, Ruth Keller, Pauline Zemlo, Myrna Smith, Velma Pulliam, Glenna Belle Lawson and one in infancy.

Funeral services for Florence will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. Visitation will be Tuesday for 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to Canandaigua Church.

Erwin L. Smith
June 29, 1932 - March 23, 2009

Erwin L. Smith, 76, of Lafayette, Indiana, formerly of Hillsdale, passed away Monday, March 23, 2009 at his home. He was born June 29, 1932 in Hillsdale to William E. & Helene (Horton) Smith. He was married to Janett Lowe and she preceded him in death February 2, 1999.

Erwin was a graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Dentistry. He practiced dentistry from 1963 until his retirement in 2003. Erwin was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Hillsdale Masonic Lodge. His father William was the former owner and operator of Smith's Flowers in Hillsdale.

He is survived by three sons, Alex (Audrey) Smith of Rochester Hills, Robert (Kim) Smith of Brownsburg, Indiana, Andrew Smith of Chicago, Illinois; and four grandchildren.

Besides his wife Janett, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Jeanne.

Funeral services for Erwin Smith will be Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale with Rev. Gary Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial donation to the American Heart Association or the Disabled American Veterans.

Teresa Ann Pontious
March 9, 1961 - March 10, 2009

Teresa A. Pontious, 48, of Morenci passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in West Unity, Ohio. She was born on March 9, 1961, the daughter of Robert & Shirley (Shay) Huff. On September 18, 1982, in Munson, Michigan she married Roger Pontious and he survives.

Teresa was a life long Morenci area resident and graduate of Morenci High School Class of 1979. She enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, travelling north with their friends to their property and was a member of Zion United Brethren Church and Morenci Eagles #1297.

Surviving Teresa besides her husband, Roger is a son, Steven at home, her mother, Shirley Hall and father, Robert Huff both of Morenci; four sisters, Linda (Fred) Dusseau of Yuma, Arizona, Vickie (John) Maginn of Fayette, Ohio; Bobbie (Greg) Betz of Morenci and Denise (Steve) Mynhier of Wauseon, Ohio; one brother, Allen (Carol) Huff of Sand Creek, Michigan; mother in-law, Elaine Pontious of Wauseon; father in-law, George (Connie) Pontious of Ruskin, Florida; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents and step father, Robert Hall.

Funeral services for Teresa Pontious will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Zion United Brethren Church in Ogden Center with Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation on Friday at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Zion United Brethren Church.

Roberta L. Back
December 18, 1961 - March 3, 2009

Roberta L. Back, 47, of Jonesville, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at her home. She was born December 18, 1961 in Detroit, Michigan to Marvin H. & Audrey V. (Miller) Angle, he survives in Alabama.

She was married Oct. 24, 1992 in Ron Back and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Holly & Lisa Back, both at home. A sister, Debbie (John) Pisani of Redford and two brothers, Michael (Leigh) Angle of Mississippi and Larry (Linda) Angle of Dearborn Heights.

At her request, cremation has taken place. Memorial services will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Paul G. Schaffner
November 15, 1923 - March 26, 2009

Paul G. Schaffner, 85, of Fayette, Ohio passed away Thursday, March 26, 2009, at his home. He was born November 15, 1923, in Fayette, the son of Earl V. and Helen (Quillet) Schaffner. He married Naomi Clay on March 8, 1946, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on September 19, 1990. He then married Goldie E. (Kirby) Schwartz on June 25, 1994, in Perrysburg, Ohio and she survives.

Paul was a lifelong farmer and was previously employed at the Fulton County Engineers Office. He graduated from Gorham Fayette High School Class of 1941, was a member of Wauseon First Baptist Church and the Fayette Lions Club, was an avid Ohio State fan, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving Paul besides his wife, Goldie of Monclova, Ohio, are three sons, David (Paula) Schaffner of Fayette, Rollin (Vicky) Schaffner of Fayette, and Randy (Karen) Schaffner of Lansing, Michigan; one daughter, Dianne (Mike) Lumbrezer of Fayette; 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Ardith Rupp of Archbold, and Lynnette (Norm) Hooker of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three step daughters, Shirley (Hap) Warner of Toledo, Char (Randy) Samko of Toledo, and Tina (Dave) Hadley of Monclova; one step-son, Danny (Vella) Williams of Toledo; nine step-grandchildren, and four step-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Naomi; two brothers, Arlen and Robert Schaffner; and one grandson in infancy.

Funeral Services for Paul will be Monday, March 30, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ron Shipley and Pastor Rex Stump officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette, Ohio.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may make memorial contributions to the Fayette Lions Club or Wauseon First Baptist Church.

Patsy L. Rogers
December 7, 1930 - March 17, 2009

Patsy L. Rogers, 78, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at her home. She was born December 7, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents were Norman N. Briggs and Eva May (Meek) Riley. She was married August 31, 1961 to James Rogers, and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Patsy was a retired nurse and a former resident of Osseo, prior to moving to Hillsdale.

Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Robison of Osseo; four sons, Michael Gibler of Osseo, Danny Lee (Chris) Gibler of Jackson, Gary (Velene) Gibler of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Norman Gibler of Hillsdale; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister.

At her request, cremation has taken place. There will be a private family graveside memorial service at a later date at Frontier cemetery in Frontier. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Maryann Gillespie
December 11, 1933 - March 25, 2009

Maryann Gillespie, 75, of Sand Creek passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born on December 11, 1933, in Fulton Co., Ohio, the daughter of Grant & Dorothy (Richardson) Double. On December 31, 1961, in Seward, Ohio, she married Lyle Gillespie and he survives.

Maryann was a life long Morenci area resident. She drove school bus for the Morenci Area Schools for twenty nine years retiring in 1993. She was a devoted wife and dearly loved her children and grandson. She loved music, quilting and sewing.

Besides her husband, Lyle, Maryann is survived by a daughter, Maliea Pate of Morenci; a grandson, Alex Pate; five sisters, Phyllis (Roy) Hintz of Munson, Audrey Hildrith of Delta, Ohio, Viola (Lou) Hindall of North Baltimore, Ohio, Carol (Ronnie) McCance of Wauseon, Ohio, and Linda (Danny) Willet of Sand Creek; two brothers, Leslie Double of Wauseon, Ohio, and Butch (Bev) Double of Metamora, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Maryann was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Allen in 2006.

Funeral services for Maryann will be Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will be in the Lyons cemetery in Lyons, Ohio. There will be a visitation on Saturday from 2:30 until the time of service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fairfield Fire Department.
