Helen McLeish, 84, of Lapeer, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) at the Fisher Convalescent Center, Mayville.

She was born Aug. 18, 1917. She married Hal Dodge who preceded her in death, and then married Harold McLeish.

She loved to travel with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; children, Hal Jr. (Sharon) Dodge of Lapeer; Alonzo Rollo (Betty) Dodge of Calif.; grandchildren, Lisa, Lon, Jerry, Jeannie, Michelle and Hilda; 8 great-grandchildren; step-children, Donald (Cecila) of Tuscon, Ariz., James of Auburn Hills, William of Pontiac, Harold (Carolyn) of St. Helen, Marilyn (Allen) Thorp of Mayville, Linda (Colin) Webb of Davison, Margaret (Alan) Natzel of Phoenix, Ariz.; 17 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer.

Joseph Slavich
Died: Friday, October 05, 2001
Age: 81

Lapeer

Joseph Slavich, 81, of Lapeer, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001) at Heritage Manor Flint.

Joseph was born Jan. 3, 1920 to Anthony Slavich and Katherine Muzuran.

Funeral services were held Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Deacon Jerry DeShaw officiated. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Detroit.

Vernon Lee Hounchell
Died: Friday, October 05, 2001
Age: 60

Imlay City

Vernon Lee Hounchell, 60, of Imlay City, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001).

He was born Dec. 22, 1940 in Hazard, Ky. He married Katherine A. Bates in Wayne on Sept. 29, 1979.

He had lived in Imlay City for two years, previously living in Westland. He had been employed by Ford Motor Co. in the Maintenance Dept. at the Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne for 19 years. He served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine of Imlay City; parents-in-law, John and Brenda Bates; sister-in-law, Sheri (Raymond) Billig of Attica; niece, Victoria Billig of Attica; and nephew, John Billig of Attica.

Funeral services took place Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.

Ella C. Brierly
Died: Friday, October 05, 2001
Age: 91

Metamora

Ella C. Brierley, 91, of Metamora, died Friday (Oct. 5, 2001).

She was born June 12, 1910, in Eau Galle, Wis., to William H. and Ann (Samuel) Weber. She married Robert G. Brierley in Jacksonville, Fla. on Dec. 20, 1934.

Ella was proud to have been a member at St. James Episcopal Church, Birmingham. She was most importantly a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Lapeer; daughter, Judith (William) Taylor of Dryden; grandsons, Geoffrey Bartig and David A. Bartig.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service has taken place. Deacon Bill Bones officiated. Burial was in White Chapel cemetery, Troy.

Steven P. Stroh
Died: Thursday, October 04, 2001
Age: 48

Lapeer

Steven P. Stroh, 48, of Lapeer, died Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001).

He was born June 30, 1953, in Wyandotte, to Paul and Lucille (Turner) Stroh. He married Carolyn Hill in Lapeer on Sept. 10, 1977.

Steven was an avid snow skier and loved making wine. He also enjoyed camping with his family and friends, as well as photography. He was employed with B.A.S.F. in Southfield for 15 years where he worked as a chemist. He served in the U.S. Army for 25 years, currently as Lt. Col. with the Active Reserves.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; son, Brian Joseph of Kalamazoo; daughter, Elizabeth Cara of Lapeer; parents, Paul and Lucille of Lincoln Park; sisters, Christine (John) Rankin of Japan and Paula Joan Heizer of Springhill, Tenn.; many brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated in his honor Monday (Oct. 8, 2001) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lapeer. Burial was in Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

Thomas G. Omans
Died: Wednesday, October 03, 2001
Age: 65

Almont

Thomas G. Omans, 65, of Almont, died Oct., 3, 2001.

He was born March 29, 1936, in Houghton, to Lewis E. and Eunice A. (LeClaire) Omans. He married Anna Hogancamp in Highland Park on Oct. 8, 1955.

He was a graduate of the Washington Trade School in Detroit. Mr. Omans owned and operated Pebble Pushers, Inc., and Cement Express trucking companies. He retired from the Teamsters Local 247. He was a member of the F.O.P. in Sterling Heights, the Detroit Blues Society as well as the Friendship Club.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; daughters, Cheryl M. Lovett of Swartz Creek and Debra A. of Ypsilanti; son, Thomas G. II of Metamora; grandchildren, Brian H. Lovett IV and Erin E. Lovett; brothers, Milton of Milwaukee and Lewis E. Jr., of Ferndale; sister, Paulette Goolsby of Rochester Hills; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Herbert, Clyde, and Paul.

Funeral services were held Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. Rev. Fred Timm of the Dryden United Methodist officiated.

Kimberly Kay Montgomery
Died: Wednesday, October 03, 2001

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Kimberly Kay Montgomery, 27, of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and Chicago (formerly of Lapeer) died Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2001).

She was born June 5, 1974 in Seoul, Korea.

Kimberly graduated from Lapeer West High School in 1992. Since graduation she has worked for various Internet development companies including, Caught In The Web, Inc., Digit Interactive, Inc. and Web Design Group, Inc. Most recently Kimberly was the Director of Creative Design for Sapient Corporation in Chicago. She was a passionate artist. Kim loved the city-life and traveling.

She is survived by her parents, David and Cecelia (Parsch) of Lapeer, Fiancˇ Philip Hogarth of Ottawa; brother, James of Lapeer; grandmother, Faith of Lapeer; dear niece, Lydia Andrews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Harrison Montgomery and Vincent and Margaret Parsch.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mass Cards or the Kimberly Montgomery Scholarship Fund. Checks payable to David Montgomery.

Visitation will be held 1-8 p.m., Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday (Oct. 11, 2001) at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer. Father David Parsch will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Loretto cemetery, Lapeer.

Edna Rosalie Proulx
Died: Monday, October 01, 2001
Age: 89

Metamora

Edna Rosalie Proulx, 89, of Metamora, died Monday (Oct. 1, 2001).

She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada, to John and Lou (Sylvester) Murphy. She married Edmund Lambert Proulx in Detroit, in 1934.

Mrs. Proulx worked very hard her entire life. She and her husband owned and operated many businesses and Edna did the accounting for all of them. Mrs. Proulx also worked for many local manufacturers doing their accounting.

She is survived by her children, Rosalie (Bob) Parr of Brown City, Anne (Tom) Kinch of Oxford, Linda Smith of Fairview, Jane Yorks of Metamora, Steven (Sue) of Dryden, Cathy Moore of Oxford and David (Debbie) of Lapeer; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Williamson of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Gerry Murphy of Texas; brothers, Jim Murphy and Franklin Murphy of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund in 1974; sons, Samuel and Carl; parents, John and Lou Murphy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mass Cards.

Visitation will be held 1-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m., Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. A Scripiture service will be held 7:30 p.m., Wednesday (Oct. 3, 2001) at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday (Oct. 4, 2001) at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer. Father Janusz Iwan will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Loretto cemetery, Lapeer.

Edward A. Allen
Died: Saturday, September 29, 2001
Age: 73

Brown City

Edward A. Allen, 73, of Brown City, died Sept. 29, 2001 at Marlette Community Hospital.

He was born April 21, 1928, in Kings Mill, to Frank and Alma Allen. He married Norene Raymond on June 13, 1953.

He was employed at the National Twist Drill in Rochester for 33 years. He had also been a farmer and excavator for 10 years. He worked as a maintenance man at Riverview Towers for 10 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Norene; sons, Jeffery (Pam) of Maryland, Charles of West Branch and Michael (Cathy) of White Lake, Rebecca of Davison; 9 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Aileen Ford of Lapeer and Pauline Silkowski of Utica.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Williams and brother, Leo.

A Military service was held Tuesday (Oct. 2, 2001) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Arnold Bracy officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery, Lapeer.
