Mark L. Yoder, 30, of Capac, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001) at Troy Beaumont Hospital. He was born March 18, 1971, in Lapeer, to Ronald and Betty (Smith) Yoder. He married Tricia Aleman of North Branch, in Lapeer, on Nov. 21, 1998.
He was a 1989 graduate of Almont High School and attended The University of Michigan. Mark worked for Daimler Chrysler in Centerline and attended The Church of Christ in Romeo.
He is survived by his wife, Tricia of Capac; his parents, Ronald and Betty of Almont; grandfather and step-grandmother, Leon and Zelda of Almont; sisters, Doreen of Madison Heights, Suzanne (Nathan) Dunn of Orlando, Fla.; brother, Paul (Canille) of Warren; nieces, Madison Aleman and Betty ; nephews, Joey Aleman and Jason; many aunts uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son, Steven; grandparents, Harold and Doris Smith formerly of Capac; grandmother, Lourene Yoder.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Oct. 30, 2001) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. Minister, Paul St. Louis of the Deerfield Church of Christ officiated.
Burial was in Almont-Hough cemetery.

Florence A. Diaz

Florence A. Diaz, 82, of Riley Center, died Friday (Oct. 26, 2001).
She was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Mexico, to Luiz and Inez (nee Arredondo) Granado.
She married Thomas Diaz in Texas on July 12, 1938.
She was an employee of Vlasic Food from 1966-1986. Florence's greatest joy was being a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas; sons, Armando (Dolores) of Imlay City, Richard (Ruby) of Lapeer, Tom (Vicky) of Deckerville, Manuel (Cheryl) of Imlay City, August (Robin) of Florida, Luiz (Maria) of Florida; daughters, Carmen (Frank) Hernandez of Wisconsin, Rita of Riley Center, Gloria (Richard) Villareal of Flint, Fidela (Toni O.) of Riley Center and Florence (Quentin) Walters of Holly; 37 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchidlren; sisters, Josephine Acosta and Faustina Vasquez both of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Viviana; brothers, Francisco and Macedonio Granado; sister, Maria Martinez.
A Funeral Mass was held Monday (Oct. 29, 2001) at St. Mary Mystical Rose Catholic Church, Armada. Burial was in Willow Grove cemetery, Richmond.

Bernice Zupan

Bernice Zupan, 80, of Lapeer, died Oct. 24, 2001.
She was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Howell, to Bert and Maude (Pierce) Randall. She married Frank Zupan.
She is survived by her niece, Ann (Ed) Mills of Lansing; several great-nieces and nephews; good friend, Pat Dempsey of Lapeer; as well as her dog Dukey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Zupan.
At her request there will be no services.

Luella M. Osterhout
Died: Tuesday, October 23, 2001

Columbiaville
Luella M. Osterhout, 80, of Columbiaville (formerly of Lapeer), died Oct. 23, 2001.
She was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Paris, MI, to Giles and Edna (Westenburg) Schermerhorn.
Mrs. Osterhout worked for General Motors for over 16 years. She also worked for Lue's Lake Side Store for several years.
She is survived by her children, Michael Horwath of Tawas City, Pamela Allen of Davison; many grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Beatrice O'Toole of Kingston, Harold Schermerhorn of Arizona and Lyle Schermerhorn of Mount Morris.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert Horwath in 1981; siblings, Bernice Parks, Walter Schermerhorn; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or Genesys Hospice.

Michael Scott Lints

Michael Scott Lints, 25, of Walker (formerly of Lapeer), died Oct. 23, 2001.
He was born April 7, 1976, to Richard and Lynn (Brockman) Lints.
He graduated from Lapeer East High School, class of 1994 and from Grand Valley State University in 1999. Michael ran track for four years at Grand Valley State University where he set two school records in the 4x100 relay and the Hammer Throw. He coached the Grand Valley State University Track Team, twice to the National Championships. Mike was a teacher and football coach for Kenowa Hills Junior High School.
He is survived by his parents, Richard and Lynn of Lapeer; brother, Scott (Andrea) of Flint; nephew Christian; niece, Kennedy; grandparents; Jack and Betty Brockman of Green Valley, Ariz.; special friend, Brandi Bernards of Walker; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jule and Irma Lints.
Funeral services were held Saturday (Oct. 27, 2001) at the First Presbyterian Church, Lapeer. Rev. Todd Smith officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery, Lapeer.

Robert Albert Staats

Robert Albert Staats, 79, of Lapeer (formerly of Sterling Heights), died Aug. 1, 2001.
He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Ohmaha, Neb., to Charles and Edna (Delezene) Staats.
He is survived by his sister, Yvonne (Farlow) Oswald Marshall of Walled Lake; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.

Felice "Phil" Spezia

Felice Phil Spezia, 84, of Brown City, died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001).
He was born May 25, 1917, in Rochester, to Louis and Angelina (Carnagie) Spezia.
He married Clementine Gasloli at the Assumption Grotto Church, in Detroit, on Feb. 12, 1944.
He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a lifetime livestock farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was interested in antique tractors. He enjoyed spending his time with his family on the family farm and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clementine; three sons, Richard (Rusty) of Brown City, Gerald (Linda) of Farmington Hills and Donald (Janice) of Corunna; three daughters, Marianne (Ward) Smith of North Branch, Debra (Paul) Valko of Oakland and Barbara (Michael) Michon of Rochester Hills; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandsons; three brothers, John (Marie) of Leonard, Lyle of Lake Orion and Louis (Thornita) of Lake Orion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Robert; and three sisters, Theresa, Ann and Mary.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Funeral mass was Saturday (Aug. 4, 2001) at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church of North Branch. The. Rev. Richard Schmidberger officiated. Burial was in Westlawn cemetery in North Branch.

Elinore V. Weidner

Elinore V. Weidner, 86, of Lapeer, died Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2001).
She was born May 28, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., to Charles and Bessie (Blackwell) Grayson. She married John Weidner on Nov. 21, 1940.
She was a member of the St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Mick) McPhee of Alpena and Lapeer; four grandchildren, Tracey, Scott, Paul and Teresa; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on April 26, 2001; and one son, Jack.
Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice of your choice.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
