Dale C. Michael, 44, of Lapeer, died Friday (Feb. 16, 2002).
He served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He was a truck driver for 14 years. He loved fishing, hunting, golfing and playing pool. He was on the Lapeer County Pool League and the Arcadia Hills Golf League. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Kevin (Nada) Michael of Babenhausen, Germany, Anthony Langhorne of Florida, Zaccaria (Deanna) Schlaud of Elba and Gabriel Schlaud of Lapeer; grandchildren, Devin and Antonia Schlaud; mother, Jaqueline Michael of Lapeer; brother, Douglas (Michelle) Michael of Lapeer.
Funeral services were Monday (Feb. 18) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. Burial was in Stiles cemetery, Lapeer.

MaryLou Perry

White Lake
MaryLou Perry, 72, of White Lake (formerly of Dryden), died Saturday (Feb. 16, 2002) at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Pontiac.
She was born Oct. 4, 1929, in Pontiac, to Harry and Olive (Martin) Woodruff. She married Lavern Edward Perry in Pontiac on April 2, 1955.
She graduated from Pontiac High School. She was employed by AAA as an office manager in Birmingham and also worked for Dryden Schools in the cafeteria.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Scott) Dunaway of Carleton; sons, Tim (Erica) Perry of Dryden, Jeff (Andrea) Perry of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Noah Dunaway, Abigail Dunaway, Margaret Perry and Hannah Perry; sisters, Dorothy Fearnow of White Lake, Arlene Pittman of White Lake, Joanne McDonald of White Lake, Roberta Levitt of Waterford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Perry on Aug. 27, 1998.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday (Feb. 20) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Glenn Sattelmeier will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.

John R. Simmons

North Branch
John R. "Jack" Simmons, 78, of North Branch and Holmes Beach, Fla., died Feb. 15, 2002.
He, along with his younger brother, Bill, was the third generation born on the Simmons farm in North Branch and the fourth of six generations to operate the family farm. As a young man, he excelled at sports. He was the state champion sheep shearer. He played the saxophone in the FFA National Band. He was a lifelong member of the North Branch Methodist Church and served on various committees in his church and community. He and his brother, Bill, built their farm to over 1,000 acres of crops and over 1,000 head of beef cattle, also producing milk, pork and maple syrup along the way. He officially retired from farming in 1991, but remained an enthusiastic tractor pilot and advisor for his son, John, on the family farm. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, woodcutting and trapping. His face was very familiar to local golfers, as he also enjoyed his retirement job as a golf ranger at Washakie Golf Course in North Branch. His many Florida friends enjoyed his company at golf, cards and socializing every winter.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (Laur); sons, George of Albuquerque, Jim (Maureen) of Alden, John C.(Sherry) of North Branch; daughter, Jill (David) Dik of New Jersey; grandchildren, Rose and August, Arlo, Asa, Zachariah, Effie, Kristina, E. Stacey, John W., Curtis, James and Andrew; great-grandson, Skuyler; and brother, Bill of North Branch.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Saturday (May 25, 2002) at the North Branch United Methodist Church. A luncheon and visitation time will follow.

North Branch/ Holmes Beach, Fla.
John R. "Jack" Simmons, 78, of North Branch (winter resident of Holmes Beach, Fla.), died Feb. 15, 2002.
He was born March 18, 1923 in North Branch. He married Joan Simmons.
He was a retried farmer in North Branch. He and his wife became winter residents in Holmes Beach, Fla., 30 years ago. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, North Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of North Branch and Holmes Beach, Fla.; daughter, Jill of Glen Ridge, N.J.; sons, George of Albuquerque, N.M., James of Alden, John of North Branch; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild, and one brother, William of North Branch.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Branch. Cremation has taken place.

Thomas H. Langa

Metamora
Thomas R. Langa, 75, of Metamora (formerly of Madison Heights), died Friday (Feb. 15, 2002).
He was born Oct 20, 1926, to Caspar and Mary Langa.
On Feb. 2, 2001, their 25-year marriage was blessed by the Roman Catholic Church.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WorldWar II. He taught math and science at the Anderson Middle School in the Berkley School District. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and loved golf. He was a loving husband, father and especially a grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Langa of Metamora; children, Elaine (Robert) Langa of Chelsea, David (Staci) Secord of Keego Harbor, Linda (Brian) Withers of Apollo Beach, Fla., Sue (Bob) Perrish of Livonia; grandchildren, Kim, Bree, Stephen, Sarah, Rebecca, Dylan; siblings, George (Catherine) Langa of Ohio, Florence Thomas of Maryland, Margie Langa of Ohio, Ed (Winnie) Langa of Ohio, Ethel (Carl) Kovach of Ohio, Joann Biefus of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church.
Funeral services were Monday (Feb. 18) at Immaculate Conception Church, Lapeer. Father Janusz Iwan and Deacon Jerry DeShaw officiated.

She was born to Herbert and Angeline Maschke.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Elizabeth; granddaughters, Stardust, Melissa and Angel; great-grandchildren, Rob, Jeremiah and Jasmine; brother, Herbert Maschke of Freemont; sisters, Audrey Hutchison of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Freida Swain of Lapeer.

Gregg Allen Gardiner, 45, of Lapeer (formerly of Mount Clemens), died Feb. 12, 2002.
He was born July 27, 1956, in Mount Clemens to James and Dolores (McAdams) Gardiner.
He is survived by his parents, Dee and Jim Gardiner of Prudenville; brothers, Patrick Gardiner of New Baltimore and Michael (Lorraine) Gardiner of Harrison Township; sisters, Deborah Gardiner of Houghton Lake and Tracy (Christopher) Kanaziz of Imlay City; nephews, Jeremy Gardiner, James Kaul and Gunner Kanaziz; aunts, Maggi Bennedict of Genesee and Jean Groth of Colorado.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Michigan Humane Society.
Funeral services were Friday (Feb. 15) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pastor Peter DeKlerk officiated. Burial was in Denton Township cemetery, Prudenville.

Burl Brown

Burl Brown, 80, of Imlay City, died Feb. 12, 2002, at Metamora Manor A.F.C.
He was born July 3, 1921, in Perry, Okla., to Jesse and Minnie (Hale) Brown. He married Ruth Lindke on Dec. 17, 1944, who preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 1996. He then married Velma Hollenbeck in Bay Port on Oct. 12, 1997.
He was employed by Brown City Schools for over 30 years as a Science and Agriculture teacher and later as Principal before retiring in the mid 1970's. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the South Pacific. He was an avid fisherman and field tester of fishing equipment.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Brown of Imlay City; daughters, Marilyn (Warren) Hofert of Capac, Jean (Sam) Bowman of Swartz Creek; brother, William (Evelyn) Brown of Fort Stockton, Texas; sister, Betty (Ernie) Harden of Ponco City, Okla.; grandsons, Kevin (Stacey) Hofert, Michael (Lysa) Hofert, Christian Froude; great-grandchildren, Tyler Humphrey and Delaney Hofert; step-sons, Laverne (Joyce) Ferrett of Imlay City, Jerry (Roberta) Ferrett of Lapeer, Jim (Rose) Ferrett of Troy; step-daughters, Joyce (Hank) Morocco of Imlay City, Kathy (Pat) Burgess of Caro, Sharon (Sam) Pennisi of Arcadia, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth; sister, Dorothy Burch; brothers, Robert Brown and Paul Brown; grandson Brandon Bowman.
A memorial service was Saturday (Feb. 16) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Hal Phillips officiated.

Sharon Louise Sommers

Sharon Louise (Rowbotham) Sommers, 55, of Greenville, S.C., died Feb. 11, 2002.
She was born July 4, 1946 in Port Huron. She married Robert Sommers in Saginaw 35 years ago.
She graduated from Mayville High School in 1965. She was a waitress at McGuffy's Restaurant in Greenville, S.C. She liked figurines and loved her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Charles (Kelly) of Korea, Laura (Robert) Williams of Williamston, S.C., Chad of King Bay, Ga.; grandchildren, Allen, Alex, Calib, Connor and Samuel; father, Calvin S. (Nora Germain) Rowbotham of Mayville; brothers, Calvin (Judy) of Mayville, Gerald (Laura) of Vassar, Edward (Judy) of Texas, Thomas (Cheryl) of Mayville, John (Diane) of Mayville, Timothy (Delana) of Mayville, Jeffery (Laurie) of Fostoria; sisters, Nancy McLaughlin of Texas, June (Lewie) Perales of Imlay City, Cynthia DaSantos of Caro, Sandra (Jeffrey) Cunningham of Fostoria; 39 nieces and nephews; 43 great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Lillian Rowbotham in 1970; and Aaron Tierney in 1992.
