Millard W. Heron

Millard W. Heron, 71, of Lapeer for the last 9 months (formerly of Lake), died Friday (March 29, 2002).
He was born Aug. 22, 1927, to Allen and Arabella (Cole) Heron Sr. He married L. Estelle Spitzer in Eastpointe on Nov. 10, 1945.
He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1956, ministering for the American Baptist Association with numerous churches throughout Michigan and New York. He retired in 1989, but, as the family said, never truly stopped spreading the good word. He most recently attended New Hope Missionary Church in Lapeer. He was particularly proud that he and his wife were able to travel to the Holy Land, then to Rome, Italy. He enjoyed writing poetry, camping, hunting and watching Tiger baseball. He also bowled and played church-league volleyball and softball. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was a very devoted grandfather, finding as much time as he could to swim and play with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, L. Estelle Heron of Lapeer; children, Wesley Heron of Madison, Ind., Daniel (Colleen) Heron of Traverse City, Gail (Dan) Hartley of Lapeer, Mark Heron of Petoskey, Nancy (Walter) Mabee of Lapeer; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brothers, Allen (Bernice) Heron of Brooksville, Fla. and Roy (Marilyn) Heron of New Smyna Beach, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his 16-year-old grandson, Mark Benjamin Heron in 1997; and his parents.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bibles.
Funeral services were Tuesday (April 2, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Revs. Gerald Sims, Gary Compton and John Paschen officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery in Mayfield Township.

Norman S. Chamberlin

Lapeer
Norman S. Chamberlin, 92, of Lapeer, died Friday (March 29, 2002).
He was born Oct. 4, 1909, in Royal Oak, to Norman S. and Anna (Sigelow) Chamberlin. He married June Simons, together they shared 71 years of marriage.
Hewas a graduate of the Henry Ford Trade School. He had worked as a tool and die representative. He also enjoyed being the Past Master of Birmingham Lodge 44, also being active with the Boy Scouts and the Shriners Crippled Children.
He is survived by his loving wife, June; son, Norman (Susan) of Bay City; daughters, Sue DeView of Greenbush and Sandra Mawer of Lapeer; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Elizabeth Harris of Sun City, Fla.; sister-in-law, Delores Chamberlin of Brutus.

Wayne Harold Rice

Lapeer
Wayne Harold Rice, 86, of Lapeer, died Thursday (March 28, 2002).
He was born Jan. 3, 1916, in Detroit, to Leslie and Mabel (Pratt) Rice. He married Ila Bates in Baldwin on Sept. 30, 1939.
He was a lifetime farmer and also a tool and die maker. He was past president of the Lapeer Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, Ila Rice of Lapeer; children, Daniel (Judy) Rice of Lapeer, Karen (Tom) Coulter of Lapeer, Richard Rice (friend, Bev) of Lapeer, Roxanne Rice of Grand Blanc; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Durward Dude (Elaine) Rice of Florida, Elmer Rice of Lapeer; and one cousin Howard Rice of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Virginia M. Bouck, 74, died March 27, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; children, Nancy (Keith) Racknor of Lapeer and David (Marlene) of Vassar; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Connie Mott, 60, of Bowling Green, Fla. (formerly of Imlay City), died Wednesday (March 27, 2002).
She was born June 19, 1941 in Lapeer.
She was employed by the Imlay City Schools as a school bus driver. She was a member of the Imlay City Eagles.
She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Mott of Grand Rapids; sons, Douglas (Peggy) Mott of Imlay City, Kevin Mott of Spartansburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Joe (Shannon) Mott, Jamie Mott, Robbie Mott; great-grandchild, Sami Jo Mott; brother, Douglas (Ginger) Miller of Imlay City; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Florence (Smith) Miller.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday (April 2, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Alan Casillas will officiate.

Gerald Jay Stimson

Gerald Jay Jerry Stimson, 65, of Mesa, Ariz. (formerly of Lapeer), died March 26, 2002.
He was born June 22, 1936 to Weldon and Charlotte (Cook) Stimson. He married Peggy Cathey in September 1955.
They had five children. He worked from 1955-64 at Krogers in Michigan as a produce manage. From 1966-70 he ran his own Marathon Station. He then went into the wheel alignment business until moving to Arizona in 1981. While there he became a maintenance supervisor of many complexes throughout the valley.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy; sons, Gary, Terry, Steven, John (Patti); daughter, Kelly; 19 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother, Charlotte Stimson; brother, Jim (Teresa); brother-in-law, John Naggy; sister-in-law, Yvonne; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Weldon; grandson, Grant; son-in-law, Tom Wheeler; brother, Weldon Jr.; sister, Emma; father-in-law, Jesse Cathey; and great-grandson, Jesse Miller.

Jack H. Lewis, 79, of Tawas, died Tuesday (March 26, 2002), at Tendercare Nursing Home in Tawas.
He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Capac, to Earl and Susan Lewis.
He retired from General Motors as a millwright in 1977. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the Davison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4087.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna; children, Dr. Bradley (Carol) of Crystal Lake, Ill., Brian (Shirley) of Oakley and Jack of Tucson, Ariz; grandchildren, Benjamin and Heidi Lewis, Stephanie and Brett Genereux, Stacie Lewis, Aaron Lewis and Abby Hannewald; great-grandson, Ty Genereux; sisters, Barbara Morris of San Diego Calif., his twin sister, Jean Belyea of Marysville, Marge Weston of Imlay City and Gail Mulka of Charlevoix; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;and four brothers, William, Robert, Richard, Herbert and James.

Janet Marie Gardner

Janet Marie Gardner, 53, of Deckerville (formerly of Imlay City), died March 17, 2002 at Autumnwood Nursing Center.
She was born March 23, 1948, in Detroit, to Robert N. and Dorothy B. (Peitzsch) Gardner.
She lived at Oakdale in Lapeer until 1971 and then lived in Imlay City for 31 years. She was a loving child of God and a beautiful daughter.
She is survived by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Gardner of Dearborn; sisters, Patricia (Robert) Olexsey, Kathleen (James) Allen, Susan (Timothy) Ponta; brothers, Neil (Barbara) Gardner, William Gardner, James (Susan) Gardner and Dean Gardner; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Thursday (March 21, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
