Kristina "Tina" Novotney, 43, of Brown City (formerly of Columbiaville and Lapeer), died Tuesday (July 23, 2002).
She was born to Albert and Susan (Book) Pearson. She married Craig Novotney.
She, her hiusband and their children have been active in local 4-H for many, many years.She was a wonderful mother, wife, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Craig Novotney of Brown City; children, Annie and Curt Novotney of Brown City; siblings, Richard (Sheri) Pearson, Karin (Mike) Rivest and Eric (Veata) Pearson; father-in-law, Albert Novotney; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Marguerite Novotney.

Viola D. Fisher
Died: Monday, July 22, 2002
Age: 91

Lapeer

Viola D. Fisher, 91, of Lapeer, died Monday (July 22, 2002).
She was born May 20, 1911, in Lapeer, to William and Grace (Whittstock) Fisher.
She worked 23 years for Russell's Drug Store in Lapeer and many years for Gwinn's True Value Hardware. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer and active in the Lutheran Guild at church. She loved to play bridge and euchre.
She is survived by her brother, Harold Fisher of Lapeer; nieces and nephews, Bill (Karla) Fisher of Flint, Jeanette Thompson of Otter Lake, Doug (Carol) Fisher of Brown City, Joni (Russ) Hitchcock of Lapeer, Chuck Fisher of Tennessee, Marilyn (Gary) Hellebuyck of Lapeer and Rex Fisher of Lapeer; many great-nieces and nephews, ranging all the way to great-great-great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Bob Fisher; and sister-in-law, Irene Fisher.
Memorial contributions may be made to Genesys Hospice.
Funeral services were Thursday (July 25, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Marvin Ramthun officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Lapeer.

Dave Utley
Died: Sunday, July 21, 2002
Age: 57

North Branch

Dave Utley, 57, of North Branch (formerly of Lapeer), died July 21, 2002.
He was born Nov. 25, 1944, in Goodrich, to Elmer and Avis (Castle) Utley. He married Gladys Chapman in Davison on Dec. 23, 1966.
He was in the livestock business, as a dealer and trucker for over 32 years. He enjoyed hunting and collecting John Deere equipment. The family was particularly proud of him for helping with Lapeer County 4-H for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Utley of North Branch; children, John (Tracy) Utley of North Branch, Rhonda (Nick) Ewald of Jacksonville, Fla., Vicki (Steve) Chown of Lapeer, Kathy (Dan) Pickett of Otisville and Steve (Cindy) Jones of Columbiaville; grandchildren, Jacob, John, Shyanne, Samantha, Austin, Chaslyn, David, Nicole, Frank, Mike, Michelle and Johnathon; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, William Utley.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Harry M. Fansler
Died: Saturday, July 20, 2002
Age: 75

Newaygo

Harry M. Fansler, 75, of Newaygo, died June 20, 2002 at his residence.
He was born May 9, 1927, in South Bend, Ind., to Warren Eldred and Pauline (Alcock) Fansler.
He was a salesman for Sonic Air of California until November 1998. He was a member of Croton American Legion Post 381 and the Grand Rapids Elks Post 48. He was a veteran, having served in the Navy during World War II from May 14, 1945, to July 4, 1946, when he was discharged as a Store Keeper 3/C V-6.
He is survived by his special friend and companion, Ruth Bajema of Newaygo; children, Kerry (Philip) Waterman of Fort Myers, Fla., Jeffrey (Mary) Fansler of Howard City and Susan Fansler of Rockford; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Douglas (Dorothy) Fansler of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Newaygo County, C/O Fremont Area Community Foundation.
A memorial service will be announced later.

Garrold Jackson
Died: Friday, July 19, 2002
Age: 48

North Branch

Garrold "Jerry" Jackson, 48, of North Branch, died Friday (July 19, 2002).
He was born Sept 12, 1953, in Saginaw, to James and Arlene (Belil) Jackson. He married Stephanie Joseph on Nov. 8, 1986.
He grew up in Vassar and graduated from Vassar High in 1971. He was employed at H&H Tool in Lapeer as a machinist. He was an avid sports enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; children, Sara and Garrett, both living at home; mother, Arlene (Bill) Reid of Vassar; father, James Jackson of Prescott; parents-in-law, Harold and Patricia Joseph; sisters, Nancy, Kathy and Patty; sisters-in-law, Christine Garrett, Sharon Ball and Kathy Hutchinson, brothers-in-law, Michael (Maureen) Joseph and Grant Joseph; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the family.
A memorial service was Monday (July 22, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch.

Gertrude C. Houck
Died: Friday, July 19, 2002
Age: 82

Utica

Gertrude C. Houck, 82, of Utica, died Friday (July 19, 2002) at Crittenton Hospital, Rochester Hills.
She was born Dec. 14, 1919, in North Branch, to George and Josephine (Vielhaber) Schank. She married Joseph Henry Houck on June 22, 2002.
She was employed by Mandel Greenhouse for 32 years. She was a member of St. Kieran Catholic Church in Shelby Township and a member of the Altar Society.
She is survived by her children, Joanne (Gary) Phillips of Shelby Township, William and (Camille) Houck of Harrison Township and Patricia (Barry) Pines of Shelby Township; adopted daughter, Sally Morgan of Lake Orion; grandchildren, Jennifer Michelle Phillips, Matthew (Jennifer Ann) Phillips, Heidi (Roger) Mucci, Brian (Laurie) Houck, Richard (Corinne) Doran and Michelle Pines; adopted granddaughter, Dolly (Alan) Gott; great-granddaughter, Alison Kobylski; adopted great-grandchildren, Cory and Jessica Gott; four brothers and four sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Henry Houck, on June 30, 1983.
Funeral Mass was Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at St. Kieran Catholic Church in Shelby Township.

Eleanor M. Brockreide
Died: Friday, July 19, 2002
Age: 90

Columbiaville

Eleanor M. Brockriede, 90, of Columbiaville, died Friday (July 19, 2002) at Genesys Health Park.
She was born Aug. 1, 1911, to Joseph and Teresa (De Pratti) DeMartin. She married Charles Brockriede in Flint on June 20, 1938.
She graduated from the Flint School District. She taught school in Columbiaville and retired from Beecher School District in 1971. She was a member of the Lapeer Seventh Day Adventist Church and she enjoyed fishing, gardening and sewing.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Ronald (Karen) Brockriede and Dr. Donald (Kathy) Brockried,e both of Columbiaville; grandchildren, Mitchell, Alice, Teresa, Charles and Thomas Brockriede; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and James; brother, Dr. Roland (Louise) DeMartin of Mason; two nieces and two nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Charles.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lapeer Seventh Day Adventist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services were Monday (July 22, 2002) at Blackburn Chapel-Martin Funeral Home, North Branch. Elder Earl Zager officiated. Burial was in Sunset Hills cemetery.

Dryden

Judith Ann Boik, 49, of Dryden, died Thursday (July 18, 2002).
She was born Jan. 17, 1953 in Detroit. She married Robert Boik in Warren on May 25, 1991.
She was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed going to the park, biking, swimming, walking the dogs, shopping and going up north. She was a teacher at Chatfield Elementary School.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Boik of Dryden; and son, Jonathan Boik of Dryden.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A private memorial service has been held.
