Donald A. Evans, 87, of Lapeer, died Sunday (July 28, 2002).
He was born June 23, 1915 to Alex and Bessie Evans. He married Marjorie M. Johnson in North Branch on Feb. 28, 1934.
He was the oldest child of 13 children. He was a farmer, sawmill operator and welder. He owned and operated the family business for 50 plus years. He was a Wold War II veteran, having served in the Pacific throughout the Philippines and Japan. He was a member of the Lapeer American Legion Post 16. In his later years he loved to travel to Florida, Texas, Wyoming and Las Vegas, Nev. He enjoyed people, country music and Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer. He also loved his dogs, Tony, Lucy and Curley.
He is survived by his children, Peggy Jenkins of Coca, Fla., Marie (George) Connors of Cody Wyoming, Cathy (Russell) Norton of Clio, Stephen (Dawn) Evans of Columbiaville, Vicky Manns of Oxford and Andy (Linda) Evans of Gaylord; his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; his extended family, Ken and Harriett Miller and their children and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; daughters, Neila McNiel Bonnie Arndt and infant Debra; and son, Donald A. Evans Jr.
Visitation was Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at Baird-Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Arnold Bracy will officiate. Burial will be in Stiles cemetery with graveside honors under the auspices of the Lapeer American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard.

Reuben M. Arzoomanian

Clifford
Reuben M. Arzoomanian, 94, of Clifford, died Saturday (July 28, 2002) at Marlette Community Hospital, Marlette.
He was born Aug. 9, 1907, in Turkey, to the late Minas and Ruth Arzoomanian. He married Helen Goshgarian in Highland Park on Dec. 16, 1962.
He was a graduate of Highland Park High School. He moved to the Clifford area in 1969 from Detroit. He worked and retired from the Kelvinator Refrigeration Co. He was a past member of the Clifford Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Kenneth Johnson of Lake Orion and JoAnn Johnson of Clifford; step-sons, Gary Arzoomanian of Detroit and Steve Arzoomanian of Texas; and grandson, Seth Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the organization of the donors choice.
Funeral services were Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at the Clifford Baptist Church. The Rev. Timothy Rich will officiate. Burial will be in West Burlington cemetery, Silverwood.

Mary Hardy

Lapeer
Mary Hardy, 94, of Lapeer (lifelong resident), died Friday (July 26, 2002).
She was born May 7, 1908, in Five Lakes, to George and Maud (Shaver) Reed. She married Arthur I. Hardy. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She worked at many places, including Dr. Zemmer and Dr. Dorland's office, Michigan State Home, Fabricators, Paul Wynn's Dry Cleaners, Sanderson's Carpet and Burnside's Carpet Store. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, Richard (Betty) Hardy of Livingston, Texas; grandsons, John (Janice) Hardy of Monroe, Jeffery (Laura) Hardy of Monroe and James Hardy of Belleville; great-grandchildren, Jeffery Hardy Jr., Marnia Hardy, Jessica Hardy, Brian Hardy and Justin Hardy; several nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur I. Hardy in 1968; grandson, Jeremy in 1987; siblings, Frank Reed, Bessie Kersten, Emma Watson, Edna White and Edwin Reed; and her parents.

Funeral services were Tuesday (July 30, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Todd Smith officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Lapeer.

Eleanor Caldwell

Eleanor "Connie" Caldwell, 78, of North Branch, died Friday (July 26, 2002) at her home.
She was born Sept. 1, 1923, in Almont Township, to Frederick and Catherine (LaBeau) Rabert. She married Carlton Caldwell on Sept. 18, 1948 in North Branch Township.
She grew up in the Almont area. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed gardening and canning.
She is survived by her husband, Carlton "Pecky" Caldwell; daughters, Marsha (Gary) Sabo of Lapeer and Bonnie (Rod) Bridger of North Branch; son, Carlton "Jake" (Linda) Caldwell of Mayville; sisters, Evelyn Bennett of North Branch, Rosemary (John) Bruner of Florida and Rosalie (Willie) Bellamy of Shelby Township; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her son, Glennie Robert; brothers, Arthur, Ronald, Joseph and Fred; and sister, Bernice.

Evelyn F. Bond, 100, of Hadley, died July 25, 2002.
She was born April 16, 1902, in Owosso, to R.Z. and Lena (Hoyt) Smith. She married Kenneth H. Bond Sr. in Flint on Jan. 1, 1923.
She retired from AC Spark Plug after 25 years. She also worked hard as a homemaker for her family. She was a loving mother, special grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth H. (Verneda) Bond Jr. of Hadley, Clare E. (Doris) Bond of Metamora; grandchildren, Joyce Sierra, Daniel (Rosa) Bond, Sharron Lilley, Eugene Bond, Duane Bond, Joann (Donnie) Fitzpatrick, Aaron (Juanita) Bond, Judy (George) Knockhart, Carol (Mike) Brewer and Peggy (Rod) McMullen; 17 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Shirley) Smith of Au Gres and R. Hoyt (Carolyn) Smith of Midland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth H. Bond Sr.; son, Russell Bond; parents; and brother, Duane Smith.
A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 7) at her farm, 3379 Green Corners Road, Hadley. Family and friends are welcome.
Paul Glenn Miller

Paul Glen Miller, 61, of Imlay City, died Thursday (July 25, 2002) in Lapeer.
He was born Oct. 8, 1940, in St. Paul, Va., to Fred and Anna Miller. He married Carol Scott in Rochester on Nov. 12, 1960.
He was a truck driver for Tony Angelo Cement Construction Co. for many years. He was an active member in the Wolverine Horseshoe Pitchers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Miller; children, Glen (Beverly) Miller of Brown City, Laura (Joe) Milnar of Imlay City, Kimberly (Tom) Wheeler of Capac, Scott (Christina) Miller of Imlay City and Shannon (Jeff) Pitts of Brown City; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers, "Pee Wee" Larry and Joe; and sisters, Linda and Delores.
He was preceded in death by his parents and baby son, Troy David Miller.

Madelyn L. McComb

Madelyn L. McComb, 86, of Lapeer (formerly of Croswell), died Wednesday (July 24, 2002).
She was born March 19, 1916, in Elk Township, Sanilac County, to Roy and Gladys (Henshaw) Colclough. She married Gordon McComb on Aug. 22, 1934.
She was a licensed realtor-broker and receptionist at Frontier Real Estate for 25 years. She was a pianist, taking lessons for 20 years and teaching lessons for 30 years. She also played the organ, violin, accordion and enjoyed listening to other artists. She enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her children, G. Dale McComb of Florida, Marjorie Jones of Billings Montana, Garth (Judy) McComb of Lapeer, Marilyn Shaver of Ohio, Lowell (Chong Cha) McComb of Birmingham, Dwight (Sharon) McComb of Lapeer and Galen McComb of Durand; son-in-law, Nelson Keefer; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Guyette of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon McComb in 1982; daughter, Garnet Keefer; son, Terry McComb; two grandchildren and her parents.

Mary Ann McNicol

Mary Ann McNicol, 79, died Tuesday (July 23, 2002) at Genesys Hospice Care Center Goodrich.
She was born March 23, 1923 to Joseph and Nellie (Novakowski) Gosch. She married Whelton "Mac" McNicol on Aug. 9, 1969.
She resided in the Davison area since December of 1994, previously of Mount Morris, Boyne City and Hale. She graduated from Berlin Wise High School in the Class of 1941. She and her husband owned and operated Mary Mac Inn in downtown Mount Morris from 1969-1974, Boyne River Inn of Boyne City from 1974 until retirement in 1984. She was a member of the Lapeer Auxiliary Fraternal Order of Eagles 2427, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7435 of Hale and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church of Davison.
She is survived by her husband, Whelton "Mac"; children, Louise (David) Doty, Claudia (Randy) Vogle, Diane (Robert) Noblett and John (Marie) Brunsman; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Joseph (Virgina) Gosch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gordon and Lawrence Gosch; one sister, Josephine Christensen; one step-daughter, Barbara Ann McNicol; and her first husband, Robert Brunsman.
Funeral Mass was Friday (July 26, 2002) at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. The Rev. Andrew Czajkowski officiated. Cremation has taken place at the request of the family.
