Warren Laur

Flint
Warren "Boots" Laur, 70, of Flint, died Aug. 3, 2002 at his home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1931 in Flint. He married Joan Maddock. They met at the age of 16 in their homeroom class on the fifth floor of the tower at Central High School.
He worked for his father, L.H. Laur and Sons Decorating Contractors firm, along with his three brothers during high school. He served in the Army 's 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C., from 1952-1954. After being honorably discharged, he resumed work with his father. He then started working for Buick Motor Division Factory 36 in 1962, retiring as a supervisor and reliability representative in 1987. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church since 1992, having spent time in the Adoration Chapel at the church.He was an avid outdoorsman and loved his northern get-away. His dogs, Hector, Dorcie and Mindy Sue, were his constant companions.
He is survived by his son, Kevin Laur of Grand Haven and Flint; daughter, Deborah Woolman; grandsons, Ryan Jon Laur of Grand Blanc and Robert Woolman; brothers, L. Barry (Bonnie) Laur of Merrit Island, Fla., and Gerald (Junie) Thompson of New Port Richey, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and very special friend, Jim Jacobs of Flushing; former wife, Joan (Laur) Cook of Grand Blanc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Gladys Laur; a sister, Phyllis Pascoe; and a brother, Richard "Dick" Laur.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Redeemer Organ Fund, Flint Institute of Music, the Humane Society, or the American Legion.
Visitation for family and friends will be 9:30 a.m. Friday (Aug. 16) at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Burton.
A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday (Aug. 16) at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Burton. The Rev. William F. Wegher and Deacon Jim Corder will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Metamora
Mary Ellen Leonard, 84, of Metamora (formerly of Lincoln Park), died Friday (Aug. 2, 2002).
She was born March 30, 1918 in Peoria, Ill.
She was a bookkeeper for the A&P Grocery for 27 years, retiring in 1982. She attended Bethel Assembly of God in Lincoln Park.
She is survived by her daughter, Joann Mary (David) Solak of Metamora; grandchildren, Linda Park, David Solak Jr., Janice Wilson, Frances Chiarelli Moody, Perry Chiarelli, Peter Chiarelli and Paul Chiarelli; eight great-grandchildren; her niece that she raised and loved as her own, Mary Ellen Costello Leonard; nephew, Peter Louis Costello; brother, Louis (Evelyn) Sheets of Metamora, Ill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph William Leonard in 2001; daughter, Janet May Chiarellil; eight siblings; and her parents, Rowland and Josephine (Schwinn) Sheets.
Memorial contributions may be made to Macular Degeneration Fund.
Funeral services were Monday (Aug. 5, 2002) at Calvary Bible Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Reid Kitchen officiated. Burial was in Michigan Memorial cemetery, Flat Rock.

Newell James Scott

Imlay City
Newell James Scott, 86, of Imlay City, died Thursday (August 1, 2002) at McLaren Regional Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born March 30, 1916, in Boyne City, to Ben and Maude (Jones) Scott. He married Florence Marie Burdette in Pontiac on November 16, 1940.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He was employed by Garrett Airesearch in El Segundo, Calif., for 30 years. He worked as the head of technical publications and retired at age 58. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheryl S. Roland of Forest Falls, Calif.; son, Gregory (Christine) of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.; grandchildren, Autumn May of Long Beach, Calif., Nicholas May of Forest Falls, Calif., Arnie Scott, andDavid Scott, both of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence on May 29, 2002; brothers, Deo, Ben, Bernard and F.O. Scott; sisters, Margaret Scott and Angelia Lewis; brother-in-law, Gene Burdette; and sister-in-law, Audrey Burdette.

Dallas Dorman

Metamora
Dallas Dorman, 79, of Metamora (formerly of Snover), died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002).
He was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Snover, to John and Daisy (Moore) Dorman. He married Florence E. Buskirk in Snover on Oct. 11, 1941.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He was an international union representative for the United Auto Workers for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lapeer, and Masons in Hazel Park. He enjoyed golfing, boating and woodworking. He loved his family, people, the water, and was a great story teller.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Dorman of Metamora; children, Sally (Bob) Wilkins of Livonia, Nancy (Glen) Roberts of Troy, Dr. Daniel (Marcia) Dorman of Metamora, Darlene (Dr. Ron) Geb of Rochester and Susan (Dr. Tony) Purdy of Rochester Hills; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one brother, Winston (Florence) Dorman of Snover.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice or Trinity United Methodist Church.
A memorial service was Monday (Aug. 5, 2002) at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. Colin Stover and Terry Euper officiated.

Mary Theresa Davis, 84, of Clawson (formerly of Dryden), died Thursday (Aug. 1, 2002) at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.
She was born Oct. 6, 1917 in Troy, N.Y.
She was the past president of St. Cornelius Altar Society in Dryden and secretary of the P.T.A. She bowled with her league "The One O'Clock Rollers" and was also a great fan of all Detroit sports. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, she took pleasure in her travels and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Thomas (Faith), James (Sharon), Gerald (Linda) and Deborah (William) Jastrebski; daughter-in-law, Joan; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Michael (Evie) Diviney and Theresa (Daniel) Bora.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Marshall Davis on Jan. 23, 1970; a son, Donald, in 1991; and brothers, Patrick, in 1979, and Francis, in 2000.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Guardian Angels School Endowment Fund.
Visitation was Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., Clawson.

Clyde Klauka

Clyde Klauka, 64, of Lapeer, died July 31, 2002 surrounded by family and friends.
He was born Oct. 25, 1937, in North Branch, to Everett and Elsie (Pettit) Klauka.
He grew up in Columbiaville and served in the Navy from 1955-1958. He was retired with 30 years of service at General Motors in Flint. He was an avid out-doors-man and loved his northern get-away. He was a member of the Deerfield Church of Christ for the last 30 years where he served faithfully. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed giving to his family, friends, and church.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth (Fisher) Klauka; sons, Mike (Roxanne) of Holt, Ike (Traci) of Holt and Dan (Deb) of Holt; daughters, Linda Klauka of Kalamazoo, Diane (Wayne) Rives of North Branch, Leah (Dana) Garchow of Davison and Christine (Matt) Postma of Sparta; 15 grandchildren; mother, Elsie Klauka Laidler; and two brothers, James Klauka of Lapeer and Floyd (Shirley) Klauka of Columbiaville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Everett; brother, Larry; two infant brothers; sister, RosaLee; and sister-in-law, Ruby.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Lakes Christian College, Clyde Klauka Scholarship.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 3, 2002) at the Deerfield Church of Christ, Lapeer, with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard.

Lucy Jean Edgette

Otter Lake
Lucy Jean Edgette, 75, of Otter Lake (formerly of Lapeer), died July 31, 2002.
She was born July 16, 1927, in Waterford to Earl and Lucy (Hamilton) Milton. She married George Lee Edgette.
She was a bus driver for Lapeer Public Schools for 30 years, retiring in 1984. She was a bird watcher and enjoyed her gardening, especially her flowers. She did many crafts, including knitting and crocheting.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (David) Walker of Lapeer, Edward (Joni) Edgette of Deckerville, Kathy (George) Larson of Lapeer, David Edgette of Otter Lake and James (Tammy) Edgette of Otter Lake; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Lee Edgette, in 2001; and her parents.
Cremation has taken place.

Anastasios G. Korbas

Anastasios G. "Ernie" Korbas, 79, of Croswell, died Wednesday (July 31, 2002) at Port Huron Hospital.
He was born Aug. 21, 1922, in Lowell, Mass., to George and Marigo Korbas.
He was the former owner of the Harvest Table and Korby's Restaurant in Lapeer. He later worked with his son and daughter-in-law at Cheap Charlies in Port Huron until his retirement. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Troy. He loved shuffleboard, golf, cooking and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife, Mildren C. Korbas of Croswell; sons, Charles (Nancy) Peterson of Inverness, Fla., Steven Peterson of Ortonville and Keith (Darlene) Peterson of Port Huron; daughters, Laura Dean-Bonnell of Big Rapids and Gail (Tom) Kotsko of St. Louis, Mo.; siblings, twin sister Angeline "Chris" Ziogas, Pauline Korbas and John (Effie) Korbas; 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marigo Korbas; and one son, Kenneth Peterson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 3, 2002) at Karrer Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron. The Rev. George Hatz officiated. Burial was in Resurrection cemetery, Clinton Towmship.
