Lapeer

Irene J. Jostock, 79, of Lapeer, died Monday (Aug. 19, 2002).
She was born Sept. 24, 1922 to Joseph and Anna Laclaff.
She was a teacher in Imlay City, North Branch, and Lapeer for over 27 years.
She is survived by her husband, John Jostock of Lapeer; daughters, Betty Borck of Knoxville, Tenn., Annie Butterfield of Sevierville, Tenn., and Jean (Ernie) Saltzman of Lapeer; sons, John (Carol) Jostock of Lapeer, Jim Jostock of Jacksonville, Fla., and Tim Jostock of Lapeer; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She has donated her body to Wayne State Body Bequest Program.
At her request there will be no memorial or funeral service.

Laurella Agnes Alberts
Died: Sunday, August 18, 2002
Age: 76

Attica

Laurella Agnes Alberts, 76, of Attica, died Aug. 18, 2002 at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
She was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Connellsville, Pa., to George and Anna (Kerns) Bauer. She married Michael Anthony Alberts in Leisenring, Pa., on July 4, 1945.
She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk in a shoe store in the 1940s.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Alberts of Attica; daughter, Marianne (Robert) McNary of Attica; grandchildren, Jordan, Nathan and Hannah McNary of Attica; brother, Eugene (Ardis) Bauer of Arizona; and sisters, Barbara (Bob) Mayson of California and Judy Gonzales of California.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Aug. 20) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Deacon Jerry DeShaw officiated. Burial was in Attica Township cemetery, Attica.

Ruth E. Smith
Died: Saturday, August 17, 2002
Age: 72

Florida

Ruth E. Smith, 72, of Florida (formerly of Columbiaville), died Aug. 17, 2002.
She was born Nov. 30, 1929, in Elsie to Alton and Ellen Mead. She married Howard N. Smith Jr. in 1952.
She died nearly two months after celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary. She earned her bachelo'rs degree from Adrian College in 1952. She was a teacher for over 30 years, first teaching for the LakeVille Public School system. In the early 1960s she received a master's degree from Eastern Michigan University. She then spent some years as a visiting teacher for the Lapeer County Intermediate School District. She finished her career in the Lapeer School District, first as a special education teacher and finally as an elementary school teacher. Later in life, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a constant bright spot in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Howard N. Smith Jr.; children, Howard A. (Zena Zumeta), Ellen E., Arthur K. (Louise), William R. (Debbie) and Carol S. (Robert) Skeirik; grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Patykowski, Sarah (Adrian Robles), Daniel Smith, Andrea and Emily Smith, Samuel, Stephen, Luke, Ian, David and Elijah Skeirik; two great-grandchildren, Hannah and Gabrielle Patykowski; sisters, Laura (Jacob) Zeeman of Lapeer and Janice (Larry Williams) McMahon of McHenry, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Ruth E. Smith's memory to the Lake Country Shrine Club, P.O. Box 1744, Tavares, Fla., 32778.
No funeral or memorial service is planned at this time.

Evanjelina Gomez Anthes
Died: Saturday, August 17, 2002
Age: 56

Lapeer

Evanjelina Gomez Anthes, 56, of Lapeer (formerly of Pontiac), died Aug. 17, 2002.
She was a published poet. Her faithful French poodle "Chulo" always wanted her lap and attention.
She is survived by her husband of 23 years, James E. Anthes; daughter, "Krystal" Raina Forbes; siblings, Mary Trevino (Ray), Epifanio ( Betty Robbins) Gomez, Jr., Erminia "Minnie" Davis, Edward Gomez and Elida Anderlie "Cokie" (Robert); many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Caral DuPerran Aguilera.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Epifanio and Lupe Gomez.
Funeral services were Wednesday (Aug. 21) at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home, Waterford. The Rev. John F. Clements officiated. Burial was in All Saints cemetery.

George Leon Saffell
Died: Thursday, August 15, 2002
Age: 80

Imlay City

George Leon Saffell, 80, of Imlay City (formerly of Oakland County), died Aug. 15, 2002.
He was born Jan. 4, 1922 in Oklahoma.
He was a loving grandfather, who will be missed. He retired as the groundskeeper at Addison Oaks County Park in Leonard. He served his in the Army. He was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge in Imlay City.
He is survived by his step-sons, Gary (Betty Russell) Winterton of Dryden and Darryl Winterton, Sr. of North Branch; grandchildren; Debra (Kenneth) Anderson of North Branch and Darryl (Shelly) Winterton Jr. of North Branch; and many good friends including June Saffell and Onalee Graham.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Leon Winterton; two brothers and his parents.
Funeral services were Aug. 17 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Todd Smith officiated. Burial was in Lakeville cemetery, Addison Township.

Robert Morris
Died: Thursday, August 15, 2002
Age: 74

Davison

Robert Morris, 74, of Davison, died Thursday (Aug. 15, 2002) at his home. He was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Davison, to Daniel and Maude Morris. He married Clara Robison in Lapeer on Oct. 14, 1946.
He lived in the Davison area all of his life. He was a member of Davison Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4087, Lapeer Post 16 of the American Legion, Genesee County Sheriff's Posse and Teamsters Local 332. He was a lifelong farmer. He was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; children, Daniel (Linn) Morris, Steven Morris, Susan (Dolf) Veit and Michael (Karen) Morris; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Fromwiller and Lorraine Weigersma.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Glenn Morris Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.
Visitation was Sunday (Aug. 18) and Monday (Aug. 19) at Allen Funeral Home, Davison.
Funeral services were Monday (Aug. 19, 2002) at Allen Funeral Home, Davison. The Rev. Michael P. Morris and Steven K. Morris officiated. Burial will be in Davison cemetery, with graveside services under the auspices of Davison VFW Post 4087.
Arrangements by Allen Funeral Home, Davison.

Rex Amon
Died: Wednesday, August 14, 2002
Age: 76

Dryden

Rex Amon, 76, of Dryden, died Wednesday (Aug. 14, 2002) at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills.
He was born Jan. 16, 1926, in Peck, to Otto and Jean (Wright) Amon. He married Thelma Hoopengarner in Ruby on Sept. 28, 1946.
He graduated from Yale High School in 1944 where he was the state champion wrestler. He served with the Marines in Okinawa during World War II. He retired as a district manager for State Farm Insurance Co. He was a charter member of the Dryden Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Dryden Masons and the Imlay City American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma; son, Lee (Gail) Amon of Camden; daughters, Lynn (John) Havens of Dryden, LouAnn (Charles) Reah of Dryden and Lana (Brian) Kent of Dryden; grandchildren, Matt and Melanie Amon, Jessica Plumb, Jennifer Spivy, Michelle Patterson, Lonnie Reah, Charlie Reah, Renee and Fay Kent; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jonah Plumb, Hunter and Logan Amon, Jacob Patterson and Joshua Spivy; and sisters, Joyce Barr of Marshall, Maxine Stamats of Tecumseh and Bernice Holmberg of Berlington, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Lon Amon in 1962.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 17, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Dale Nash of the Dryden Wesleyan Church officiated. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.

Edmund Watts Clark
Died: Tuesday, August 13, 2002
Age: 80

Peck

Edmund Watts Clark, 80, of Peck (formerly of Warren and Dryden), died Tuesday (Aug. 13, 2002) at home.
He was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Ferndale, to Albert and Nellie (Kendall) Clark.
He married Wanda Lou Wheeler in Royal Oak on May 24, 1980.
He graduated from Cooley High School. He served in the Army Air Corp and flew 51 missions in B-17s during World War II. He was an owner of Value Engineering in Warren doing tool and die designs for 25 years before retiring in 1984. He loved hunting, fishing and baseball and was active coaching Dryden Little League until he was in his 70s. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars' Imlay City Post .
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Clark of Peck; daughters, Linda (Lloyd) Roberts of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Terry (Michael) Notartomaso of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Laurie (Gary) Fons of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; step-children, Brian (Lori) Wheeler of Croswell, Jodi (Dave) Roth of Melvin and Deanna (Rod) Rider of Dryden; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jason Clark in 1998; brother, Albert Clark Jr. in 2001.
Funeral services were Friday (Aug. 16) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Michael Notartomaso officiated. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.
