Bertha Vislosky

Peck
Bertha (Mahaffy) Vislosky, 84, of Peck (formerly of the Ormard area, near Brown City), died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at home.
She was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Ecorse, to Joseph and Frances (Koneska) Kusnirczak. She married Leonard Mahaffy on Feb. 18, 1935 in Lapeer. He died in 1986. She then married Mike Vislosky on April 24, 1986 in Peck.
She was a mother, a farmer's wife and loving grandmother. She attended St. John Catholic Church in Peck, and was at one time involved with the senior citizens group.
She is survived by her children, Raymond (Betty) Mahaffy of Gaylord and Rosalee (Gerald) Perdue of Columbiaville; step-son, Mike Vislosky; eight grandchildren, step-grandchildren, Michael, Jason and Rodney; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna Boots of Lapeer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Vislosky; one son, LaVerne; and brothers, Joseph and Stanley Swantak.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John Catholic Church or United Hospice in Marlette.
Funeral services were Monday (Aug. 26) at St. John Catholic Church. Burial was in Attica cemetery. Arrangements by Carman Funeral Home, Peck.
Nicholas J. Ruffolo
Died: Friday, August 23, 2002

Davison
Nicholas J. Ruffolo II, 15, of Davison, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) as the result of an auto accident.
He was born June 26, 1987, in Greenville, N.C., to Nicholas Ruffolo and Henadi Isaac.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a sophomore at Davison High School where he was on the honor roll, the football team and the robotics team.
He is survived by his father, Nicholas (Kimberly) Ruffolo; mother, Henadi Ruffolo; twin brother, Joseph; grandparents, Joseph (Ellie) Ruffolo of Pennsylvania; step-grandparents, John (Barb) Kirklin of North Branch; great-grandmother, Mary Ruffolo of Pennsylvania; uncles and aunts, Imad (Patrice) Isaac and Iyad (Tahgrid) Isaac; godparents, Robert (Janice) Ruffolo of Pennsylvania; many other aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Aug. 27) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Davison. The Rev. Randall P. Schultz officiated. Burial was in Davison cemetery.

Stanley Sr. C. Paling
Died: Friday, August 23, 2002
Age: 79
Elba
Stanley Clyde Paling Sr., 79, of Elba, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002).
He was born May 23, 1923, in Flint, to Stanley and Kathryn (Rexstrew) Paling. He married Hilda Maxwell in Lapeer on July 29, 1946. The Rev. Frank Hemingway performed the marriage ceremony.
He was an engineer at Chevrolet Manufacturing in Flint for over 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was an Elba Township volunteer fireman for many years and served as assistant fire chief. He was a charter member of the Elba Lions Club. He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda Paling of Elba; children, Stanley (Patsy) Paling Jr. of Lapeer, Steven (Laurie) Paling Sr. of Grand Blanc and Pamela Stimson of Lapeer; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, one sister, Ruthann (Marshall) Street of Imlay City; one sister-in-law, Olive Paling of Clio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Aug. 27, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Stephen Chaney officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, with a military graveside service under the auspices of the American Legion Post 16 Honor Guard.

Ruby Pifer

Farmington Hills
Ruby (Johnson) Pifer, 97, of Farmington Hills (formerly a long time Lapeer resident), died Aug. 22, 2002, at Charter House Nursing Home, Farmington Hills.
She was born May 18, 1905, in Indiana to Nathan and Ethel (Knee) Johnson. She married Earl Pifer in 1936.
She moved to Detroit shortly after her graduation from high school in Hartford City, Ind. Her husband was a real estate agent in the Lapeer County area. She was an executive secretary at Scrymgeour Ad Agency in Detroit. She was an avid mystery stories reader and loved to do crossword puzzles. She loved children and volunteered in her retirement years at an elementary school.
She is survived by her son, William Pifer of Silver Thorne, Colo.; grandchildren, Thomas (Linda) Pifer of Suttons Bay and Steve (Darby) Schlagneck of Haslett; great-grandchildren, Nathan (Hilary) Parker and Joshua Pifer; great-great-granddaughters, Grace and Morgan Parker; sister, Rosalie (Verlin) Eppert of Beverly Hills; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Pifer.
Burial was Aug. 26, 2002 in Attica Township cemetery, Attica.
Annabell J. Koyl

Lapeer
Annabell J. Koyl, 74, of Lapeer, died Thursday (Aug. 22, 2002).
She was born Nov. 9, 1927, in North Branch, to Carl and Christina (Keller) Schmidt. She married Allen J. Koyl on June 5, 1948.
She was a nurse's aid at Suncrest and Ferguson convalescent homes in Lapeer. She was a loving mother, sister, and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Dennis (Marcia) Koyl of Bellevue, Diane (Edward) Giza of Reese, Robert (Judy) Koyl of Millington, Ronald (Valerie) Koyl of Lapeer and Tina (John) Dunavant of Lapeer; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Lester of Clifford and Evelyn Gardner of North Branch; sister-in-law, Mary Schmidt of North Branch; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Koyl on March 24, 1992; brother, Arnold Schmidt; sister, Margaret Roberts; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Marvin Ramthum officiated. Burial was in Stiles cemetery.

William Gordon Forrest

William Gordon Forrest, 64, of Imlay City (formerly of Dryden), died Aug. 21, 2002 at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Davison, to Gordon and Martha (Shaw) Forrest. He married Faye Madison on Dec. 29, 1955 in Birch Run.
He owned and operated Bill Forrest and Sons Trucking for the past 25 years. He also farmed in Dryden.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Faye Forrest; daughters, Brenda (Ernie) Smiley of Washington, Peggy (Tim) Hagemeister of Lapeer, Bonnie (David) Waite of Lum, Debbie Cauchi of Sterling Heights and Janet (Kurt) Beyerchen of Armada; sons, William (Carolyn) Forrest Jr. of Dryden, Rodney (Becki) Forrest of Imlay City and Bradley (Yvonne) Forrest of Almont; 27 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brothers, Tom (Carol) Forrest of Warren and George (Barbara) Forrest of Clio; and sisters, Shirley (Terrel) Milton of Searcy, Ark., and Doris (Neil) McLain of Lansing.
He was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Jamie Waite and Gage Hagemeister; brother, John Forrest; and sisters, Betty Brown and Viola Curtis.
Funeral services were Saturday (Aug. 24) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Dale Nash officiated. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.

Donald J. O'Briant

Donald J. O'Briant, 60, of Flint (formerly of Lapeer), died Aug. 19, 2002.
He was born Feb. 21, 1942, in Lansing, to Donald and Irene (Coonrod) O'Briant.
He was a loving brother and uncle. He enjoyed target practice. He had been a janitor for many different companies in the Flint area.
He is survived by his siblings, Martha (George) Cook of East Jordan, Louis (Lorraine) O'Briant of Lansing, Gerald O'Briant of California, Leon (Victoria) O'Briant of Otisville, Douglas O'Briant of Missouri, Lawrence O'Briant of Lapeer, Diane Fick of East Jordan and Robert (Pamela) O'Briant of Flint; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Arthur Sr. Edgar Pederson

Vassar
Arthur Edgar Pederson Sr., 80, of Vassar (formerly of North Branch), died Monday (Aug. 19, 2002).
He was born Oct. 30, 1921 to Christ and Clara Pederson. He married his first wife, Sara Morse, on July 27, 1948. He then married Betty Fry on Oct. 15, 1988.
He retired from Huron Metal Products in North Branch. He served in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Vassar; sons, Arthur Jr. of Marlette, Alton Ray of Millington, Walter of Walker, Dale of Kimball, John of Millington and Eric of Vassar; daughters, Lucille of Sebewing, Margaret of Vassar and Donna of Texas; 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, brothers, Donald, Lloyd, Chris; and sisters, Alice and Adeline.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sara Morse in 1988; sons, Calvin and Edwin; daughter, Sally; his parents; brother, Norman; and sister, Hannah.

A memorial service was Thursday (Aug. 22) at the North Branch Masonic Temple. Cremation has already taken place.
