Harriet I. "Elma" McCann, 87, of Almont (formerly of East Dayton), died Monday (Oct. 28, 2002) at Bloomfield Hills Nursing Center.
She was born Aug. 2, 1915, in Caro to Vanis and Myrtle (Wilkins) Walters.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent most of her life in East Dayton until moving to Almont in 1987 where she lived with her daughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Beulah (Fred) Haddix of Almont; grandchildren, Paula (William) Simpson of Marlette, Pamela (Jose) Rivera of Virginia, William (Cindy) McCann of Sandusky, Bradley (Sandra) McCann of Decker, Vance McCann of Marlette and Laurie Armstrong of Flint; great-grandchildren, Maria, Joshua, Tonya, Jason, William James, Jonathan, Danielle and Alexander; and two special friends, Phyllis Earehart and Angie Potter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John McCann; brother, Thomas Walters; and sister, Elizabeth Walters.
Funeral services were Thursday (Nov. 7) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Almont. The Rev. Dale Nash of Dryden Wesleyan Church officiated. Burial was in Christian Memorial cemetery in Peck.

Catherine Walker

Catherine Walker, 39, of Imlay City, died Monday (Oct. 28, 2002) at St. John's Hospital.
She was born Nov. 16, 1962, in Lapeer.
She was a graduate of Imlay City High School and attended Michigan Christian Bible College in Rochester. She was a receptionist at West Goodland United Methodist Church. She was active in the West Goodland Youth Groups. She loved life, singing and traveling. As a youth, she participated in the Job's Daughters.
She is survived by her parents, Richard and Eleanor Walker of Imlay City; sisters, Cynthia (Sonny) Loggains of Attica, Cheryl (Bob) Bryan of North Branch, Charlene (Desi) Rosario of Lapeer; brother, Robert (Laurie) Walker of Imlay City; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Goodland United Methodist Church Youth Fund.
Visitation wasWednesday (Oct. 30) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 31) at the West Goodland Township United Methodist Church, Imlay City. The Revd. Jimmy Barnett and Pam Barnett will officiate. Burial will be in Goodland Township cemetery, Imlay City.

Helen L. Taylor, 59, of Lapeer (formerly of Kentucky), died Sunday (Oct. 27, 2002).
She was born June 25, 1943, in Fedscreek, Ky., to Clayton and Inez (Griffith) Abshire. She married Charles E. Taylor on June 10, 1961.
She was a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Taylor of Lapeer; daughters, Annette (Robert) Cane of Columbiaville, Josie (Gary) Easton of Lapeer and Melanie (Gary) Maples of Otter Lake; six grandsons, one great-grandson; and five brothers, Larry Abshire of Lapeer, Howard (Audrey) Abshire of Fedscreek, Ky., Eugene (Cathy) Abshire of Fedscreek, Ky., James Abshire of Fedscreek, Ky., and Raymond (Florence) Abshire of Fedscreek, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Inez Abshire.

Visitation was Wednesday (Oct. 30) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 31) at the Lighthouse Church of God, Lapeer. The Rev. Ed Chandler will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery, Lapeer.

James Edward Campbell

James Edward Campbell, 73, of Baton Rouge, La., died Sunday (Oct. 27, 2002).
He was born in Almont.
He served two tours of duty in the Korean War where he was highly decorated. He returned to the United States and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Miami, Fla., followed by a master's degree in business administration from Harvard University.
He is survived by his children, Carol Marie, Linda Gail, Diane Campbell Atashi, James Franklin, Russell Guy, Susan Campbell Samson, Jean Elizabeth and Patricia Ann; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Rosner; five brothers, Robert, Gerald, Gordon, George, Donald and Bruce; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Beardsley Campbell; his parents, Russell Guy and Bessie Darling Campbell; and a brother, Richard Nelson Campbell.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday (Nov. 2) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Burial will be in Imlay Township cemetery, North Fairgrounds Road.
William M. Miller

Lapeer
William M. Miller, 82, of Lapeer, died Friday (Oct. 25, 2002) at Genesys Convalescent Center in Grand Blanc.
He was born Sept. 13, 1920, in Detroit to Michael and Ida (Titus) Miller.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer. He had been a past member of the Lapeer Fraternal Order of Eagles. He had worked for the Lapeer State Home (Oakdale) for many years and also worked in real estate and advertising. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and he loved feeding the birds and squirrels.
He is survived by his children, Michael M. (LaDonna) Miller of Lapeer, Judith (Jack) Lamphere of Lapeer, Bernadette Cribb of Florida, Susan Moore of Ann Arbor, William J. Miller of Lapeer and Denise Hunt of Lapeer; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Margaret Seay of Warren; two step-sisters, Olga Bayne of Florida and Annie Sudomier of Detroit; two half-brothers, Earl Stanford Jr. and Robert Stanford; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette in 1991.
Funeral Mass was Monday (Oct. 28) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Douglas Terrien Officiated. Burial was in Hunters Creek cemetery.

Emily J. Chamberlin

Emily J. Chamberlin, 89, of Lapeer (formerly of Royal Oak), died Friday (Oct. 25, 2002) at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1913, in Pittsburg, Pa., to Homer and Grace (Miller) Simons. She married Norman Chamberlin in December 1931, in Toledo, Ohio.
She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak. She also belonged to the Royal Oak Women's Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of the Eastern Star in Royal Oak. She loved her bridge club and the friendships she shared.
She is survived by her children, Norman (Susan) Chamberlin of Bay City, Sue DeView of Greenbush and Sandra Mawer of Lapeer; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Harris of Sun City, Fla., and Dolores Chamberlin of Brutus; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Chamberlain in March; sons-in-law, Jim Hewson, George Mawer and Joseph DeView; three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 2) at the First Presbyterian Church in Lapeer. The Rev. Todd Smith will officiate. Cremation has taken place.

Thomas Krehel

Thomas Krehel, 61, of Attica, died Thursday (Oct. 24, 2002).
He was born on Feb. 6, 1941, in Spangler, Pa., to Vasil and Mary (Zumer) Krehel. He married Rita Colonna on Aug. 17, 1963, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Flint.
He opened the Villa Restaurant in Lapeer with his brother Bill and their wives over 35 years ago. After many years, he and his wife opened the Villa Restaurant in Imlay City and operated the restaurant there. He was a member of the St. Vladimir Ukrainian Church in Flint, Sons of Italy and Ukranian Club.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Krehel of Attica; children, Justin Krehel of Lapeer, Natalie (Eric) Gregg of Washington (Mich.) and Tom (Sue) Krehel of Clarkston; grandchildren, Michael, Jacob and Janelle; siblings, Olga (Russ) Collie of Irwin, Pa., Katherine (Sam) Zaliznock of New Kensington, Pa., Mary Jane (Richard) Sposito of Davison, Helen Hurey of Irwin, Pa., and Wiliam (Edith) Krehel Jr. of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Emma Colonna of Lapeer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vasil and Mary Krehel; a sister, Anne Hurey; and a brother, John Hurey.

Orson G. Hart

Columbiaville
Orson G. Hart, 85, of Columbiaville, died Thursday (Oct. 24, 2002).
He was born June 16, 1917, in Lennon, to Burt and Alice (Gibbson) Hart. He married Theresa Bauer on Sept. 2, 1953 in New Haven.
He was a truck driver for over 25 years and served in the Army Air Corps. He was also an avid fisherman and relished the chance to work around his yard, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa Bauer-Hart; son, William (Mari) Hart of South Carolina; daughters, Alice (Brock) Graves of Colorado, Ruth Ann Zelenko of Davison, Nancy (Rick) Rhan of Virginia, Sandy (Ed) McDonald of Lansing, Marilyn (Marve) Laveer of Avoca and Kay (Rich) Kendall of Port Huron; sister, Ethel Rich of Port Huron; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
