Floyd William West
Died: Thursday, November 14, 2002
Age: 84

Imlay City

Floyd William West, 84, of Imlay City, died Thursday (Nov. 14, 2002) at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
He was born October 27, 1918, in Fostoria, to Ernest and Blanche (Burns) West. He married Eleanor Louise Kahler on May 5, 1972, in Lapeer.
He graduated from Otter Lake High School, Central Michigan University and General Motors Institute, Flint. He served in the Army Infantry as a sergeant in the 41st Division during World War II in Australia and the Pacific Theater. He worked at Deckerville Schools from 1950-1963 and Imlay City High School from 1963-1975. He taught industrial arts, drafting and Shop, and was also a guidance counselor. He served on the Citizens Probationary Council in Lapeer and was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer. He also set up the Floyd West Memorial Scholarship, which is given annually to a graduating senior from Imlay City High School.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; daughter, Ellen (Robert) West Cuny of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; son, Wayne; grandchildren, Sean Cuny, Kathleen Cuny and Bryan Dylenski; sisters, Ada (Bill) Hoard of Otter Lake and Ruth Cottrell of Davison; and brother-in-law, Ralph Jenkins, previously of Otter Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Blanche West; brothers, Leo and Robert; sisters, Dorine Jenkins and Winnie Traver; brothers-in-law, Merton Cottrell, Leon Traver; and first wife, Anna Mae Hillman in 1960.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Four County Community Foundation-Floyd West Scholarship.
Funeral services were Monday (Nov. 18) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lapeer. Burial of ashes will take place at West Deerfield cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements by Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City.

Harvey Warner
Died: Thursday, November 14, 2002
Age: 57

Niles

Harvey Warner, 57, of Niles (formerly of Lapeer), died Thursday (Nov. 14, 2002) at Lakeland Medical Center, Niles.
He was born October 29, 1945, in Lapeer to Dale and Gladys (LaCroix) Warner. He married Colleen Lake on June 5, 1965 in Lapeer.
He was an Army veteran. He was the owner and operator of Oak Dairy Party Store in Niles.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen; daughters, Donna J. (James) Krueger of Pallatine, Ill., Debra A. (Ted) Niespodziany of South Bend, Ind., and Rebecca M. Gillis of Niles; three grandchildren; brothers, James (Helen) of Lapeer, Larry (Joan) of Lapeer, Art (Star) of Dearborn and Ralph (Jacqueline) of Lapeer; and sisters, Penny (Mike) Ables of Flint and Ann (David) Clark of Gadson, Ala.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Funeral services were Monday (Nov. 18) at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles. The Rev. Scott A. Goodman officiated. A veteran's flag presentation followed the committal service, presented by John McLaughlin, commander of American Legion Post 26. Burial was in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles.

Irene E. Zuhlke
Died: Wednesday, November 13, 2002
Age: 90

Lapeer

Irene E. (Skalecki) Zuhlke, 90, of Lapeer, died Wednesday (Nov. 13, 2002) at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
She was born June 2, 1912, to Julius and Mary Ann (Rogalski) Sulecki.
She had been a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer and a former member of the Lapeer Eagles. She had worked for Oakdale Regional Center from 1964 until retirement in 1972.
She is survived by her children, Sally Brown of Nevada, Frank (Sue) Skalecki of Washington, Ernest Skalecki of Florida, Kenneth (Sheila) Skalecki of Arizona, Phillip Skalecki of Nevada, Irene Seifferlein of Marlette, Mary (Rip) Beam of Lapeer, Timothy Skalecki of Clifford, Theresa Skalecki of Lapeer and Sylvia Newcombe of Nevada; step-children, Carolyn (Ron) Starking of Lapeer and Kathleen (Jerry) Doyl of Tennessee; 32 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Adele Sterling of Howell; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank A. Skalecki in 1967; second husband, Maxilian Johnson in 1971; third husband, Maitland Zuhlke in 1999; son, Anthony Skalecki; infant son, Peter Skalecki; daughters, Catherine (Kasha) Bliss and Nancy (Ami) Bonesteel; three brothers and five sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception's Bishop Kelley School Fund.
Funeral services were Friday (Nov. 15). The Rev. Janusz Iwan officiated.

Dorothea Luella Smith
Died: Wednesday, November 13, 2002
Age: 85

Lapeer

Dorothea Luella Smith, 85, of Lapeer (formerly of Ferndale), died Nov. 13, 2002.
She was born April 10, 1917, in Saginaw to David and Mabel (Burden) Cryderman. She married Rolland H. Smith on Jan. 25, 1935, in Ferndale.
She was a loving homemaker.
She is survived by her children, Ronie (Nancy) Smith of Idaho, JoAnn (Ken) Cameron of Lapeer, Jerry (Tari) Smith of Oxford and Tami (Richard) Beck of Almont; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Betty) Cryderman of Brown City; and sister, Sally (Leon) LeBlanc of Warren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland Smith in 1995; parents; grandson, Kenny Cameron; and siblings, Katheryn Lininger, Juanita Wilt, Richard Cryderman and Donna Brandt.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Paget Foundation.
Funeral services were Monday (Nov. 18) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. David Hill officiated. Burial was in Oak View cemetery in Royal Oak.

Jason Michael Nelson
Died: Tuesday, November 12, 2002
Age: 25

Imlay City

Jason Michael Nelson, 25, of Attica, died Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2002).
He was born June 22, 1977, in Flint to Donald W. and Gayle L. (Richards) Nelson.
He lived most of his life in Attica and Lapeer. He was a member of the Imlay City High School Class of 1996. He had been employed as a welder by Jas Steel since 1996.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Gayle Nelson of Attica; sister, Kari (Rock) Kuchenmeister of Washington Township; grandparents, Robert and Glenna Richards of Clearmont, Fla., and Donald B. and Luella Nelson of LeRoy; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were Saturday (Nov. 16) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The. Rev. Bruce Garner officiated.

Raymond H. Collins
Died: Tuesday, November 12, 2002
Age: 85

Bradenton, Fla.

Raymond H. Collins, 85, of Brandenton, Fla., died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Detroit, to Harry and Anna Collins. He married Betty Mann on April 12, 1941.
He and his family moved to Imlay City in 1945 where he helped to build the Collins Roller Rink. He was a businessman in Imlay City, active in the Lions and Masons. In 1964 he moved to Lapeer where he owned the Standard Oil Station. He moved to Bradenton, Fla. in 1970 where he owned several businesses. In 1982, at the age of 65, he became the dock master of the Bradenton Florida City Yacht Basin Marina, working there until he retired in 1997 at the age of 80. He spent the last five years enjoying his retirement in Florida near his son and sister, making frequent trips to Michigan to visit his children, family members and friends. On Labor Day of 2002, he walked in the Labor Day Mackinaw Bridge Walk with several of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his brother, Barney (Arlene) of Imlay City; sister, Rita Ann (Bowman) of Bradenton, Fla., mother of his children, Betty Collins of Lapeer; daughters, Marcia of Midland, Kathleen (Robert) Porter of Lapeer; sons, Jim (Teri) Collins of Palmetto, Fla., Kenneth (fiancee, Monica) of Clarkston, Richard (Judy) of Grand Blanc; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; aunt, Thelma of Akron, Ohio; cousins and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Vicki Brown.
Internment of his ashes will be Saturday (Nov. 30) at Greenwood cemetery, Sandusky.
A memorial celebration will be at 2 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 1) at Collins Roller Rink, Imlay City, with a luncheon to follow.

Joan Johnson
Died: Tuesday, November 12, 2002
Age: 68

Fostoria

Joan (Maxam) Johnson, 68, of Fostoria, died Tuesday (Nov. 12, 2002) at Heritage Manor in Flint.
She was born May 8, 1934, in Kingston to Carl and Edith (Harris) Maxam. She married Jack Johnson on Oct. 23, 1948.
She was a member of the Rich Bible Church and Fostoria Rebekah's Olive Branch 120. She loved crocheting, camping and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Shari) of Mayville, Bonnie (Jim) Mathews of Brown City, Connie (Ray) Garcia of Imlay City and Jeff (Holli) of Fostoria; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Roberta Devore of Pheonix, Ariz., and Gail (Robert) Kasper of Mayville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Johnson in 1996; parents; brother, Carl Maxam; sisters, Geraldine Maxam and Glenda Maxam; two grandsons, James Mathews Jr. and Edwin A. Mathews; and daughter-in-law, Meleny Johnson.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rich Bible Church or the Mayville Area Ambulance Service.
Funeral services were Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Rich Bible Church. The Rev. Stebbins officiated. Burial was in Watertown Township cemetery.

Marilyn McGuire
Died: Monday, November 11, 2002

California

Marilyn McGuire of California (formerly of Lapeer), died Friday, Nov. 11, 2002, in California.
She was married to Matthew McGuire.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew; daughters, Kristin and Erin, both of California; son, Forrest of California; and mother-in-law, Mary McGuire of Imlay City.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Ember McGuire.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Carolyn R. Kirk
Died: Monday, November 11, 2002
Age: 59

Lapeer

Carolyn R. Kirk, 59, of Lapeer, died Monday (Nov. 11, 2002) at Lapeer Regional Hospital.
She was born June 12, 1943, in West Virginia, to Harold and Nora Painter.
She lived in Lapeer for the past 26 years.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna Hect of Lapeer and Kristy Kirk of Lapeer; grandchildren, Christopher, Ashley, Samantha, Nathaniel, Briana, Zachary and Michael, all of Lapeer; father, Harold Painter of West Virginia; and two sisters, Linda Harding of West Virginia and Lee Bacus of West Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald in 1999; and her mother, Nora Painter in 1987.
Private interment has taken place and no services are planned.
Arrangements by O'Guinn Family Funeral Homes, Clio Chapel.
