Lake Land, Fla.

Stephen F. Avram, 76, of Lakeland, Fla., died Sunday, March 16, 2003, after an extended illness.
He was born March 19, 1927, in Turner to George and Rose Avram.
He lived in Lapeer from 1953-1989. He was a retired self-employed businessman, who had lived in Lakeland, Fla., for the past 14 years. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and American Legion. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II. He was a devoted baseball fan, he was known to root tirelessly for both the Detroit Tigers and later, the Atlanta Braves.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Dorothy Potter Avram of Lakeland, Fla.; daughters, Midge Collie (Brian) of Jacksonville, Fla. and Amy Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla.; and grandsons, Andrew Anderson, Nicholas Anderson, Matthew Collie and Michael Collie, all of Jacksonville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice or Hospice of Jacksonville, 8130 Baymeadows Way, West, Suite 101, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
A memorial service will be held later this month in Lakeland, Fla. For more information please call Avram Funeral Home at (989) 843-5441.

Harold Weir
Died: Monday, December 09, 2002
Age: 83

Oxford

Harold "Squirrel" Weir, 83, of Metamora-Oxford (formerly of Lake Orion), died Monday (Dec. 9, 2002).
He was born Feb. 10, 1919, in Gagetown to Lyle and Mary (Comment) Weir. He married Betty Ann Carson.
He was a stock chaser leader in the materials department at General Motors Truck and Bus for 37 years, retiring in 1975. He served in the Army Air Corps as a member of the 98th Bomb Group, 344th Bomb Squad during World War II .
He is survived by his children, William (Sharon) Weir of Fraser, David (Nancy) Weir of Leonard and Linda (Dan) Athmer of Metamora; grandchildren, Douglas, H. Keith, Dale, Ryan, Michael, Stephen, Cristan, Brian and Clarissa; and great grandchildren, Kori and Cassandra.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Carson Weir in 1998; daughter, Judy Kay Weir in 1967; grandson, Darryl Weir in 1990; and nine siblings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of your choice.
Funeral services were Thursday (Dec. 12) at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lake Orion. The Rev. Bernard Mullen officiated. Burial was in East Lawn cemetery, Lake Orion.

Bennie Edward Jones
Died: Saturday, December 07, 2002

Otter Lake

Bennie Edward Jones, formerly of Otter Lake, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002).
He was born Dec. 27, 1946, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Ernest S. and Loretta (Robinson) Jones.
He earned his mechanic's license through the Lapeer County Vocational-Technical Center and worked at service stations in Columbiaville and Fostoria. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Louise Jones of Florida and Wendy Sue Jones of Florida; sons, Tim Jones of Otter Lake and Ernest Edward Jones of Imlay City; mother, Loretta Jones of Imlay City; brothers, Michael Jones of Imlay City, Barry (Donna) Jones of Minnesota and Leonard Jones of Imlay City; sisters, Floretta (Richard) Suida of Warren, Kimberly Higgason of Romeo, Sherry (Jerry) Eldridge of Romeo and Tammy (David) Sealey of North Branch; grandson, Dustin Jax Edward Jones.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest S. Jones; brothers, Ernest L. Jones, Anthony Leon Jones.
Funeral services were Thursday (Dec. 12) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. The Rev. Barry Jones officiated.

Virginia Theresa Schabel
Died: Saturday, December 07, 2002
Age: 59

Virginia Theresa "Ginny" Schabel, 59, of Lapeer, died Dec. 7, 2002.
She was born June 20, 1943, in Hamtramck to John and Sophie (Bienkowski) Chickonoski. She married Robert Schabel on Aug. 1, 1964, in North Branch.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was an artist. She was very proud to be president of the Blue Water Art Association, and was also a member of the Lapeer Art Association. She painted a mural at Elba Elementary. She was a very loving grandmother, mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. She truly enjoyed every minute with her grandsons.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Lapeer; sons, Stephen Schabel of Davison, Dennis (Maureen) Schabel of Clarkston, Timothy (Elizabeth) Schabel of Lapeer and Ronald (Patricia) Schabel of Lapeer; grandchildren, Greggory, Jeffrey, Jack and Joseph; mother, Sophie Chickonoski of North Branch; mother-in-law, Sylvia Schabel of Davison; and siblings, Robert (Barbara) Chickonoski of Florida, Christine (George) Johnson of Grayling and David (Deborah) Chickonoski of North Branch.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Chickonoski; father-in-law, Maurice Schabel.
The family requests Mass cards or a memorial contribution to the charity of your choice.
A Rosary service was Tuesday (Dec. 10) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. Funeral services were Wednesday (Dec. 11) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer. Burial was in Mount Loretto cemetery in Lapeer.

Berdie Larson

Berdie Larson, 90, of Lapeer, died Saturday (Dec. 7, 2002).
She was born Sept. 10, 1912, in Tecumseh, Okla., to Samuel and Cora (Farmer) Taylor. She married Burdette Larson in Flint on October 6, 1932.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. She and her late husband, Burdette, formerly owned and operated Larson's Furniture in Lapeer.
She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Traver of Columbiaville, Wilson (Charlotte) Taylor of Oscoda and Ruth (Creighton) Broecker of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdette in 1983; parents and siblings, Eva Taylor, Walter Taylor and Howard Taylor.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Christian Day School.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Dec. 10) at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lapeer. The Rev. Marvin Ramthun officiated. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Lapeer.

James C. Kimmel

James C. Kimmel, 68, of Lapeer (formerly of Royal Oak), died Dec. 6, 2002.
He was born July 14, 1934, in Detroit to Albert and Anna (Early) Kimmel.
He was a metal worker in several small shops. He enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his brothers, Albert (Virginia) Kimmel of Lapeer and Gerald (Debi) Kimmel of Clio; several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas Michael Kimmel and John Kimmel.
Yhe family requests Mass cards in his memory.
A Rosary service was Sunday (Dec. 8) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Funeral services were Monday (Dec. 9) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lapeer. The Rev. Douglas Terrien officiated. Burial was in Mount Loretto cemetery, Lapeer.

Marsha A. Scannell Scott

Marsha A. Scannell Scott, 47, of Lapeer, died Friday (Dec. 6, 2002).
She was born July 21, 1955, in Flint to Robert Scannell Sr. and Margie J. (Klee) Scannell.
She had been a member of Narctotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Alanon. She was employed by Pinnacle-Vlasic Foods, and had enjoyed camping and visits to the lake with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Carolee Scott of North Branch, Daniel Jon Scott of Lapeer and Christi Scott of North Branch; one grandchild, Nolan Vaughn of North Branch; parents, Margie Scannell of Millington and Robert (Ruth) Scannell of Genesee; sister, Sue (Harold) Vandercook of Millington; brothers, Robert (Sandy) Scannell of Burton and William (Lynette) Scannell of Millington; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving grandmother, Gertrude Scannell.
Funeral services were Monday (Dec. 9) at Baird Newton Funeral Home in Lapeer. The Rev. Dan Burger officiated.
