James P. Perry, 52, of Lapeer, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002.
He was born July 8, 1950, in Pontiac to James and Fannie Mae (Elliott) Perry.
He enjoyed electronics and loved to ride his bike.
He is survived by his good friend, Allen Ruth of Lapeer; sister, Christine (Roy S.) Pike of Harbor Springs; and step-nephew, Steve (Darlene) Pike of Harbor Springs.
A memorial service will be Friday (Dec. 27) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Lapeer.
Arrangements by Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer.

Emma Margaret Sawgle
Died: Saturday, December 14, 2002
Age: 91

Lapeer

Emma Margaret Sawgle, 91, of Lapeer, died Saturday (Dec. 14, 2002).
She was born Dec. 1, 1911, in Goodrich to Herkimer and Christina (Smith) Eineder. She married Fred Sawgle.
She was a member of the Davis Lake Cooperative Extension Club since 1932. She also was a member of the Suncrest Auxiliary, a member of the Royal Neighbors Club and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved to play bingo. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her children, Fred (Ethel) Sawgle of Lapeer, Eldora (Roy) Montgomery of Lapeer, Maryann (Delbert) Burnett of Pontiac, Janette (Richard) Jackson of North Branch, Robert (Annette) Sawgle of Lapeer, Jean McCallum of North Branch, Barb Haight of North Branch and Terry (Barbara) Sawgle of Lapeer; sisters, Ethel Peterson, Alice Tinsman, Jean Ferrier and Maude Milton; 35 grandchildren, 74 great grandchildren and 28 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Sawgle in 1977; daughter, Arlene Boyles in 1969; brothers, Delbert and John; and her parents.
Memorial contributions may be made to Suncrest Auxiliary, 1455 Suncrest Drive, Lapeer, MI 48446.
Funeral services wereWednesday (Dec. 18) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. The Rev. Michael Elliott will officiate. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Lapeer.

Paula Bowman
Died: Saturday, December 14, 2002
Age: 56

Davison

Paula Bowman, 56, of Davison, died Saturday (Dec. 14, 2002) at Hurley Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 30, 1946, in Detroit to Dominic and Mary Militello. She married Frederick John Bowman on May 15, 1965.
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Davison. Her family was the most important part of her life. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and they kept her going. She was a fighter who struggled for the past five years after a lung transplant.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; children, Allen (LeeAnne) Bowman, Holly (James) Wallington, Angela Bowman and Kristie (Kevin) Briggs; grandchildren, Mandy, Blaine, Jimmy, Brenden, Kaitlyn, Cassie, Gavin and Baby Briggs; father, Dominic; siblings, Joe, Linda, Sam and Don; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Militello.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Lung and Kidney Foundations of Michigan.
Visitation was Wednesday (Dec. 18) at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison.
Funeral Mass was Wednesday (Dec. 18) at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Davison. The Rev. Andrew Czajkowski will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Catholic cemetery.

Clayton E. Strohm
Died: Friday, December 13, 2002
Age: 92

Decker

Clayton E. Strohm, 92, of Decker (formerly of Lapeer), died Friday (Dec. 13, 2002).
He was born March 13, 1910, in Fostoria to Lloyd and Sybol E. (Bentley) Strohm. He married Dorothy Kimbell.
He worked for many years as the school crossing guard at the intersection of M-21 and M-24. He also worked at Lapeer Metal Products, the Barrett Hotel and the McDonald Funeral Home in Lapeer.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Shirley) Strohm of Decker, Richard Strohm of Deckerville and Janis (Chuck) Paschke of Lapeer; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Strohm; a brother, a sister and two infant children.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Baptist Church, 635 E. Forester Road, Sandusky, MI 48471.
Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m., Saturday (Dec. 28) at Emanuel Baptist Church. A Memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday (Dec. 28) at Emanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Samuel B. Combs will officiate.

Jeffrey C. Phillips
Died: Friday, December 13, 2002
Age: 48

Lapeer

Jeffery C. Phillips, 48, of Lapeer, died Friday (Dec. 13, 2002) in his home after a short illness.
He was born May 15, 1954, in Lapeer to Shirley and Leonard Phillips.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley; sisters, Linda Geisenhaver and Traci Eesley; aunts, uncles, one niece and four nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Phillips.
Memorial contributions may be made to McLaren Hospice of Lapeer or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services were Tuesday (Dec. 17) at Baird Newton Funeral Home, Lapeer.

Gertrude Marion, 91, of Brown City, died Friday (Dec. 13, 2002) in Sandusky.
She was born Sept. 24, 1911, in North Branch. She married Graham Marion in 1950.
She lived most of her life in Brown City and, along with her husband, was active in the community.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda (James) Miller and Kay (Richard) Comstock; and granddaughters, Sara and Jenna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Graham; three sisters and seven brothers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
Funeral services were Monday (Dec. 16) at Carmen Funeral Home, Brown City.

Estelle Ruth Crimm
Died: Thursday, December 12, 2002
Age: 87

Dryden

Estelle Ruth Crimm, 87, of Dryden, died Thursday (Dec. 12, 2002) at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility.
She was born in Clarksburg, W.Va., to Ernest and Dencie Davis Fittro. She was married to Chester Crimm for 64 years.
She operated a restaurant in downtown Dryden in the 1950s. She then operated the lunch room at Champion Industries in Dryden until her retirement.
She is survived by her sons, Chester "Tom" (Jo Ann) Crimm of Imlay City and Ed Crimm of Dryden; grandchildren, Gregory Crimm of Dearborn Heights, Tracy and Lisa Kaake of Attica and Denise (David) Delannoy of Shelby Township; great grandchildren, Christopher, Amanda, Philip Delannoy and Ronnie Kaake; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Crimm in 2000; brothers, Edison, Arthur, William, Daniel; and twin brother, Eugene.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Suncrest Auxiliary or the Dryden Veterans Auxiliary.
Graveside funeral services were Monday (Dec. 16) at Mount Pleasant cemetery in Dryden.

Martha L. Gardner
Died: Sunday, March 23, 2003
Age: 94

Zephyrhills, Florida

Martha L. (Francek) Gardner, 94, of Zephyrhills, Fla., died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City, Fla. after a short illness.
She was born March 21, 1908, in Anita, Pa.
She lived most of her life in Detroit and Lapeer County. She relocated to the Suncoast Florida area in 1968.
She is survived by her numerous nieces, great-nieces and great-great-nieces; nephews, great-nephews and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alex; sister, Lenore; and brothers, Sylvester and Albert.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hernando Pasco Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd., Hudson, Fla. 34667.
No services will be held. She was buried at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Largo, Fla.
