Helen Lucille North, 91, of Brown City, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Lapeer.
She was born Nov. 28, 1911, in Burnside Township on the McKillen Centennial Farm, to Silas and Elizabeth (Stokes) McKillen. She married William W. North on March 12, 1930, in Brown City. They farmed together for many years in Burnside Township.
She graduated from Brown City High School in 1929. At age 45, she earned her nursing degree and retired from the former Oakdale Regional Center after many years of service. She was a member of the Brown City United Methodist Church, Lapeer County Genealogical Society and the State Employees Retirees Association in Lapeer. She was a former member of Burnside Senior Citizens, Over 50 Club, the Michigan History Class and was a 4-H sewing leader at Deanville. She enjoyed her family, gardening, traveling, genealogy, area history and always lending a helping hand.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Helen (Richard) Ahlgren of Brown City; grandchildren, Cindy (Marlow) McCready of Melvin, Richard (Brenda) Ahlgren of Marlette, Cheryl (Jerome) Lewis of Marlette, Randall Ahlgren of Brown City and Kevin (Tami) North of Brown City; great-grandchildren, Adam and Alyssa Ahlgren, Nathan and Samantha North, and Brittany and Katelyn Lewis; sister-in-law, Thelma McKillen of North Port, Fla.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph Taylor of Lake Orion, Edwin (Amaryllis) North of Midland, Carl North of Morriston, Tenn., Irene (Dr. Gene) Bosca of Redford and Carol (James) Chapman of Lapeer; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; parents; son and daughter-in-law, Wilfred and Patricia North; grandson, Baron North; and brother, Addison McKillen.

Funeral services were Tuesday (Dec. 31) at Carman Funeral Home in Brown City. The Rev. Basel Curtiss, her cousin, officiated. The Rev. Arthur Stone assisted. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Brown City.

Leota Marie Spens, 79, of Lapeer, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002.
She was born June 11, 1923, in Lapeer to Peter and Helen (Bacon) Griffith. She married Howard Spens on June 21, 1952, in Lapeer.
She was a resident attendant at Oakdale Regional Center. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her sisters, Neta White of Lapeer, Betty Verbeke of Lapeer and Gwendolyn Clemen of Lapeer; brother, Roy (Pat) Griffith of Atlanta; several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Spens in 2000; father, Peter Griffith; mother, Helen Bacon Griffith; brothers, Richard Griffith, Howard Griffith and Duane Griffith; and a sister, Ila Griffith Brocker.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran or Suncrest Auxiliary.
Funeral services were Monday (Dec. 30) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lapeer. The Rev. John Kaiser officiated. Burial was in Dawn Memorial cemetery, Lapeer.

Charles Joseph Goentges

Livonia and Lapeer
The Rev. Charles Joseph Goentges, 87, of Livonia (formerly of Lapeer), died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002.
He was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Utica, N.Y., to Charles J. and Catherine (Morrisey) Goentges.
He was ordained a priest on May 18, 1940. He served as pastor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer from 1959 until he retired in 1985. After his retirement from the Archdiocese of Detroit, he took a position with the Diocese of Gaylord where he served another five years. After his retirement from Gaylord, He took residence in the Senior Clergy Village, where he has lived since.
He is survived by his sister, Josephine Simons of Annandale, Va.; nieces, Margaret Solomon of Sterling Heights, Catherine (Walter) Wrone of Westland, Barbara (William) Peters of Annandale, Va. and Dolores (Jose Rui) Januario of Brazil; and nephew, William (Barbara) Harry of Sterling Heights.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Catherine "Kay" Harry; and brothers-in-law, John Simons and William Harry.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Church Extension Society in Chicago or Marywood Nursing Home in Livonia.
A Rosary service was Sunday (Dec. 29) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer, conducted by the Rev. Janusz Iwan. A wake service was Monday (Dec. 30) at Immaculate Conception Catholci Church in Lapeer, conducted by the Rev. Douglas Terrien.
A Funeral Mass was Tuesday (Dec. 31) at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lapeer. Principal celebrant was Adam Cardinal Maida and the Rev. Francis Dietz was homilist.
Burial was in Mount Loretto cemetery, Lapeer.

Earl Robert Aupperle

Earl Robert Aupperle, 79, of Dryden (formerly of Shelby Township), died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, at home.
He was born Oct. 2, 1923, in Detroit to Albert and Henretta (Dady) Aupperle. He married Nellie Jane Gorseline on June 29, 1946, in Detroit.
He graduated from South Eastern High School, in Detroit, in 1942. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a tool and die maker for Chrysler and for General Dynamics at the Warren Tank Plant for 38 years, before retiring in 1989. He had lived in the Dryden area for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Aupperle of Dryden; daughter, Nancy (Kirk) Kibby of Dryden; sons, Kenneth (Louise) Aupperle of Silverlake, Ohio, Alan (Noot) Aupperle of Warren, and Duane (Terri) Aupperle of Bremerton, Wash.; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; brothers, Marvin Aupperle of Northport, Fla., Donald Aupperle of Fraser, Gordon Aupperle of Warren and Tom Aupperle of Warren; and a sister, Janette Hylander of Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Henretta Aupperle; and siblings, Harold Aupperle, Lucille Aupperle, James Aupperle.
Funeral services were Saturday (Dec. 28) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Imlay City. Burial was in Mount Pleasant cemetery, Dryden.

Wilma Schroeder

Wilma Schroeder, 85, of Yale (formerly of Almont), died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Port Huron Hospital.
She was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Rochester to William and Maude (Raduchel) Gottschling. She married Edward Schroeder in 1937.
She loved cooking and baking, and enjoyed having holiday dinners with her family.
She is survived by her sisters, Betty (Howard) Boomer of Almont and Shirley (Howard) Oswald of Imlay City; brother, William J.C. Gottschling of Imlay City; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, in 1989; and sisters, Marion Dombrowski and Doris Gottschling.
Funeral services were Friday (Dec. 27) at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Almont. The Rev. Hennessey of St. John's Lutheran Church in Capac officiated. Burial was in Ferguson cemetery in Almont.

Donald C. Perrin

Donald C. Perrin, 75, of Lapeer (formerly of Davison), died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002.
He was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Clarkston to Franklin and Winifred (Warden) Perrin. He married Marilyn Jones on May 22, 1948, in Pontiac.
He was a graduate of Pontiac High School, Michigan State University and Eastern Michigan University. He also served in the Army Air Corps. He was a band director and special education teacher in Ovid, Clarenceville, Waterford and West Bloomfield public schools. He was a life member of Michigan Education Association and National Education Association. He spent many summers working for the Marine Division of the Oakland County Sheriff's Department.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Perrin of Lapeer; children, Kathleen (Randy) Betts of Traverse City and Laurie (David) Dotson of New Castle, Pa.; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Cristen) Zeisler, Jennifer Zeisler, Heather Dotson (Mark) Walzer, Christopher (Jaime) Dotson and James Dotson; great-granddaughter, Erin Dotson; brother, Eugene Perrin of Linwood; one niece, three nephews, mother-in-law, Edythe Jones of Lapeer; step-mother, Irmgaard Perrin of Annapolis, Md.; step-sisters, Marlene (William) Schlielty of Seabrook, Md., and Ursula (William) Vosseller of Annapolis, Md.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Winifred Perrin; father, Franklin Perrin; brother, Stanley Perrin; andsister, Jean Hubbell.

Dorothy Mae Clark, 69, of Holly (formerly of Lapeer), died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002.
She was born April 13, 1933, in Seaforth, Ontario, Canada, to Harry and Jennie (Cline) Chesney.
She will be fondly remembered for her cooking, baking and entertaining. She worked many years as a medical assistant for Dr. House and Dr. Kiehler.
She is survived by her children, John (Teresa) Clark of Holly, Michael Clark of St. Louis, Patti (Tom) Johndro of Stevens Point, Wis., and Dane (Tamra) Clark of Lapeer; grandchildren, Ryan Johndro, Logan Johndro, Jesse Clark and special grandson, John Michael Piorunek; siblings, Peggy Lemon of Ontario, Canada, Marg (Art) MacKilligan of Ontario, Canada, and Bill (Joan) Chesney of Ontario, Canada; and sister-in-law, Fern Chesney of Ontario, Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Harold Chesney and Pearson Chesney.

Rodney Charles Klikna

Rodney Charles "Rod" Klikna, 46, of Rathdrum, Idaho, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at home.
He was born March 30, 1956, in Lapeer to John and Myrna (Anderson) Klikna. He married Colleen Griffin in 1981.
He lived in Imlay City until 1979, then moved west. After he married Colleen, he moved to Tonasket, Wash. and lived there for two years, then settled in Rathdrum, Idaho. He owned his own business, Homestead Excavation. He loved the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen; children, Heather, Heidi, Holly, Nathan, Hannah and Nicholas, all of Rathdrum, Idaho; mother, Myrna of Imlay City; brother, Don (Kerry) of Dublin, Ca.; sister, Linda (Jeff) Morgan of Imlay City; nephews, Donald, Darren, Josh and Jason; nieces, Crystal (Rich) Chapman, Apryl and Stephanie Morgan; parents-in-law, Bob and Sharon Schriber of Lum; and many in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
