John M Hilyard, 30, of West Branch passed away on Saturday, October 20th, 2007.
John was born in Pontiac, MI on August 18, 1977, the son of Michael and Agnes (Perez) Hilyard.
He graduated from Grayling High School in 1996.
He married his high school sweetheart, Monica Lawrence in June of 2000 in Saginaw, Michigan
John attended Calvary Baptist Church of West Branch.
John most enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing. boating, camping, the Detroit Lions, and coin collecting.
survived by his wife Monica of 7 years
Daughter: Valerie Marie Hilyard
Parents Michael and Agnes Hilyard.
Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: Armand and Lorraine Lawrence.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday October 23, 2007 between 12noon -3 p.m.
at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday October 23, 2007 at 3:00 p.m.Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, of Grayling, Michigan with Rev. Ronald Voellker officiating.

Alan Watros
October 18, 2007

Alan Harvey Watros, 57, of Grayling passed away on Thursday, October 18th, 2007.
Mr. Watros was born in Pontiac, Michigan on June 14, 1950, the son of the late Harvey and Joyce (Everett) Watros.
He served in the U.S. Army as a SP5 in the Korean War. National Defense Service Medal; Parachutist Badge; Good Conduct Medal (2d Award); Expert (Rifle); Army Commendation Medal. He also served in the U.S. Army as a SFC
He married the was the husband of Rose J. (Staph) Watros. 37
Daughter(s): Tammy Watros of Maple Valley, MI.
Joyce Watros of Alpena, MI.
Ellen (Calvin) Gossage of Mio, MI.
Brandi Watros of Grayling, MI.
Sister(s): Sherry, Elain, & Donna
Brother: Bill Watros
Preceded in death by parents, a sister, Ellen; brothers,Terry and Clint
and four neices
Visitation will be held on Saturday October 20, 2007 between 11:00 a.m.-2 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday October 20, 2007
Interment will be at Great Lakes National cemetery Holly, MI.

Howard T. Hatfield
October 16, 2007

Mr. Howard Thomas Hatfield, 80, of Grayling passed away on Tuesday, October 16th, 2007.
Mr. Hatfield was born in Detroit, MI on August 9, 1927,
the son of the late Harold James and Gertrude (Mathias) Hatfield.
He was an avid deer hunter and a trout fisherman. He had a passion for carpentry.
He served in the U.S. Marines as a Cpl in WW II.
He worked as Customer Service Manager at Bear Archery for several years, managed the fish hatchery.
He married the former Mae Louise Wilcox on November 8, 1947 in Grayling .

Son(s): Thomas (Margaret) Hatfield of Hudsonville, MI.,
George (Karen) Hatfield of Gainesville, FL.
He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
Brother(s): Harold Hatfield, Micky Hatfield, Warren Hatfield, Carl Hatfield
Preceded in death by his parents;
brothers: Hazen, James and Roger Hatfield.
and an infant sister.
Military Honors will be accorded at
Elmwood cemetery at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 27th, 2007.

October 13, 2007

Cecelia France, 87, of Grayling, passed away on Saturday, October 13th, 2007.
Mrs. France was born in Port Huron Township, MI on November 16, 1919,
the daughter of the late William and Marj (Moss) June.
She was the widow of Mahlon J France.
She moved to the Grayling area about 30 years ago.
She was a memeber of Calvary Baptist Church
Grayling Eagles, American Legion, VFW, Elks
Cecelia enjoyed Bingo, crocheting, and making pickles.
survived by:
Daughter: Sharon L. France of Grayling, MI.
Carol and Joe Head and family;
Jim and Barb France and family;
Curtis and Shirley France and family.
Granddaughter Sherry (Mike) Hambly and
Great grandson Jason Hambly.
Sister: Juanita Cross
Preceded in death by her husband Mahlon and a sister, Adair.
Funeral Service at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, Grayling, MI, with Pastor Robert Barnett officiating.

Interment will be in Kingston cemetery.

Opal J. Hunter
October 9, 2007

Opal (Corwin) Hunter, 89, of Grayling passed away on October 9th, 2007.
The funeral service was held Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Friday, October 12, 2007
with Dr. William Cargo officiating. Interment was at Elmwood cemetery.
Opal was born in Byron, Michigan on February 12, 1918, to parents Delbert J. and Minnie (Blount) Corwin.
Survivors include:
Brother: Robert J (Doris) Corwin of Durand, MI.
Nieces: Judy (David) Bristley of Morice, MI.
Darrene (Max) May of Standish, MI.
Edna Kay Thompson of Durand, MI.
Nephew: Leonard (Pam) Corwin of Durand, MI.
Robert B. (Laurie) Corwin of Durand, MI.
And many other neices, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, two brothers, and her husband William Hunter and many of his siblings
Opal was a war widow of 1940's, she worked for Vernon Bank (now Chase Bank) in Vernon, MI, and then for Kroger of Durand, MI. She was a pianist at the Durand United Methodist Church and was involoved with the Sunday School there. Opal enjoyed camping and fishing with her late husband Bill Hunter in Ocala, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crawford County Animal Shelter
or American Cancer Society.

Marty Bindschatel

Mr. Chester Martin (Marty) Bindschatel, 58, of Frederic passed away on Sunday, October 7th, 2007.
He was the husband of Marlene Bindschatel, they were married on Janaury 14, 1994.
Marty was proud of his family.
Marty enjoyed fishing, bird watching, outdoors, picking berries and mushrooms, and baseball.
survived by his wife, Marlene, of 13 years
Daughter(s): Erin (Terry) Sorenson of Chesterfield, MI.
Shannon (Rob) Wolcott of Frederic, MI.
Lynn (Mike Policht) Johnston of Frederic, MI.
Son(s): Chris (Colleen) Bindschatel of Mt. Pleasant, MI.,
Arthur (Betsy) Johnston of Roscommon, MI.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
Brothers: Lyle (Debra) Bindschatel of Tennessee
Kendall (Nancy) Bindschatel of Clio, MI.
Sisters: Carol Labo of Frederic
Mary Jo (Jan) Gauthier of Wisconsin
Preceded in death by brothers Maynard, Roger, & Neil Bindschatel.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Raymond L. Richie
October 5, 2007

Raymond L. Richie, 60, of Grayling, passed away on Friday, October 5th, 2007.
Ray was born in Detroit, MI on February 1, 1947, to
the late Culver and Gertrude (Campbell) Richie.
He married Mary Margaret Porter at Temple Baptist Church in Detroit on March 3, 1973.
Ray is survived by his wife, Mary Margaret; daughter, Lisa (Corey) Northrop of Lake Isabella, MI and three grandchildren; Taylor (5), Myah (4), and Logan (1).
Ray played football and earned a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education and Industrial Arts at Central Michigan University.
Ray served as a patrolman for the Detroit Police Department prior to moving to Grayling. He has resided in Grayling for the past 29 years and was employed at Fick & Sons.
Ray was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church Grayling, where he led the Golden Agers. Over the last 25 years of his Christian Life he has served as a teacher and Deacon at various churches in the community.
Visitation was held Monday October 8, 2007 at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
Funeral was held at Calvary Baptist Church , Grayling, MI, at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9th. The service was officiated by Dr. Robert Barnett and Dave Niederer.
Interment was at Elmwood cemetery in Grayling.

Mr. Clarence E. Strait, Sr., 72, of Grayling passed away on Friday, October 5th, 2007.
He was born in Midland, MI on September 3, 1935, the son of the late Floyd Dewey and Ellen May (Harmon) Strait.

Step Son(s): Dave (Sandy) Thompson of Alpena, MI.,
Ed Thompson of Birch Run, MI.
He is also survived by 34 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
Eagles Service of Remembrance at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, Grayling, MI, at 6:00 pm on Monday, October 8th, 2007 with visitation between 3-6pm .
