Evelyn Schnitz
Evelyn J. Schnitz, 80, of Central Lake, died on Sunday, June 18, 2006, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
She was born on March 6, 1926, in Little Rock, Ark., the daughter of William and Magdaline Horner.
She and her husband owned and operated Bass Cove Cabins in Central Lake for many years and was a permanent resident of Central Lake for the past 20 years.
She is survived by two children, Theodore Schnitz Jr. of St. Clair Shores, Deborah Schnitz of Gaithersburg, Md., two grandchildren, Phillip and Robert Schnitz, and a sister Tiny Adams of S. C.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Mary.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Rev. Max Tracey will officiate. Visitation will take place on Friday, June 23 from 6-8 p.m. also at the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Southern cemetery in Central Lake.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Clara Lou Glenny
Clara Lou Glenny, 81, of Bellaire, beloved wife of Dr. Wilmer C. Glenny, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. The daughter of Charles and Gertrude Stiles, she was born July 3, 1924 in Rockford, Ill.
Clara Lou attended Rockford College and at age 19 became a World War II bride, working at home for the war effort while husband Bill was serving our country overseas. The couple celebrated their sixty-second wedding anniversary in March.
Clara Lou was an avid reader, world traveler, bridge player and concert cellist. She took an interest in genealogy and loved music. For years, Clara Lou handled the bookkeeping for Bill's medical practice. She was a dedicated member of the Bellaire United Methodist Church and Bellaire's Literary Club. She was a past member of the BPW, Meadowbrook Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star and Traverse City Symphony Orchestra. Clara Lou will be lovingly remembered for her great love of family and friends, her giving spirit, and wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to her husband Bill, Clara Lou leaves one brother Richard, daughters Karen (Bob) Joslyn, Barbara (Tom) Naumes, Mary Beth (Mark) Arwady and son Jeffrey (Kate) Glenny, grandchildren, Wendy (Derek) Pilling, Rob Joslyn, Bryan and Scott Naumes, Bethany Wissner, Grace and Charlie Glenny and great granddaughters Sophia and Anna Pilling.
She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Dorothy, Carolyn, and brother David.
A memorial service will be held at the Bellaire United Methodist Church on Sunday July 2, at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be sent to: The Bellaire United Methodist Church or the Antrim County Commission on Aging (COA), PO Box 614, Bellaire, Mich., 49615.

Dora Metcalf
Dora L. Metcalf, 84, of Mancelona, died on June 14, 2006, at her home.
She was born on September 26, 1921, in Detroit, the daughter of William and Hazel (McCollom) Dulyea.
She was a member of the Mancelona Baptist Church and enjoyed bird watching, ceramics, painting and singing in church choirs.
On December 28, 1945, in Detroit, she married Earl H. Metcalf who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Kimball (Patricia) Metcalf of Albuquerque, N. M., Arthur (Wilma) Metcalf of Ypsilanti, a daughter, Suzanne (Robert) Baldwin of Mancelona, 11 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Dulyea, and her parents.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at the Mancelona Baptist Church. Pastor Dave McCarthy officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Baptist Church Phone Ministry, 609 N. Jefferson St., Mancelona, Mich., 49659.
Arrangements were handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Robert Person
Robert B. Person, 80, of Torch Lake Village, died on June 18, 2006, at his home.
He was born on December 7, 1925, in Mankato, Minn. He was the son of Reuben and Violet (Minor) Person.
Bob worked as a deputy for the Antrim County Sheriff's Department from 1971 - 1991. He worked with his sons as a contractor and in lawn care. He also snow plowed since 1959.
He was a generous, caring man who was very active in kids activities, camping, boating and traveling.
He was fire chief for the Upper Torch Lake Fire Department and was instrumental in forming the Torch Bay ambulance.
On March 20, 1954, in Burlington, Iowa he married Sally Starkey who survives. Also surviving are three children, Robert "Bud"(Janet) Person of Ellsworth, David (Rebecca) Person of Central Lake, Donna (Neil) Rogers of Central Lake, eight grandchildren, Melissa Kincaid, Brad Rogers, Danny Person, Travis Rogers, Shelby, Ellen, Eric and Emma Person, a sister Lois (Bob) Dustin of Central Lake and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Starr Person and a sister, Linda Person.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Eastport Baptist Church. Pastor Jerry Troyer will officiate.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Central Lake chapel of the Mortensen Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Torch Lake Township day park or the Torch Bay ambulance.

Jack Schoof
Jack F. Schoof, 79, of Charlevoix, died on June 12, 2006, at Charlevoix Area Hospital.
He was born on July 30, 1926, in Plymouth, Mich., the son of Norman and Myrle (Greenman) Schoof.
Jack earned his bachelor's and masters degrees at Michigan State University then went on to earn his PH.D. at Ohio University. He was a college art professor at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for 25 years and also taught at SUNY in Plattsburg, N. Y.
After living in Wisconsin for many years he moved to Charlevoix in 1996.
He loved to travel, enjoyed fine arts, flower gardening, reading and quilting.
On June 14, 1958, in Villa Park, Ill., he married Alice (Thomas) Schoof who preceded him in death on March 23, 2006 .
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Robert Schoof and his parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Mark) Kwasny of Columbus, Ohio, and Martha (Stanley) Kupka of Charlevoix. Also surviving are a sister Helen (Max) Richards of Bellaire and three grandchildren, Samantha Kupka, Katie Kwasny and Michael Kwasny.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Nancy Rohde will officiate. Interment will take place in Lakeview cemetery in Bellaire.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Charlevoix Area Hospital.

Kenneth Snodgrass
Kenneth Snodgrass, 92, of Saline and formerly of Bellaire, died Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Evangelical Home in Saline.
No services are scheduled at this time.
Ken was born on March 13, 1914, in Valleyford, Wash.. On Aug. 30, 1982, in Bellaire, he married Lena Wilson Ritt.
He had worked for many years for the City of Portland, Ore. He enjoyed hiking and photography.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Snodgrass of Saline; three stepchildren, Elvin (Audrey) Ritt of Dexter, Robert (Kim) Ritt of Ore Valley, Ariz., and David Ritt of Milan; eight step grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.
The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.

Keith Davis
Keith A. Davis, 81, of Eastport, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at home.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Barbara Ann Polinski, 72, of Boyne City, passed away Wednesday morning, June 14, 2006, at Northern Michigan Hospital.
Barbara was born on June 25, 1933, in Detroit, the daughter of Phillip and Magdalen (Derwick) Loeffler. On May 10, 1968, she married John Polinski.
Barbara worked many years as a treasurer for Detroit Testing Machine Company before moving with John to Boyne City in the 1980s. It didn't take long for Barbara to find her niche and quickly became involved in the community, She helped establish the Boyne City Historical Society, Boyne City Yacht Club and Charlevoix County Hospice. Barbara and John opened the White Horse Antique store, a business venture that led to Barbara joining the Boyne City Chamber of Commerce and serving on its board. Barbara then assisted in starting Evenings At The Gazebo in the old park. Around this time, she also served as chairperson for the volunteers at Northern Michigan Hospital Hospitality House. Barbara was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and served on the building committee board.
She loved to travel and prepare fine dinners. She enjoyed attending Rotary conventions and helping her husband, John, with Rotary barbecues.
Barbara is survived by her husband, John; sister, Dorothy Karns, of Ohio; and several
cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Arthur Allport; brother, William Loeffler; and stepsister, Charolette.
As a close friend said, "Barbara was short on family and long on friends." Her warmth and smile will be missed by all.
A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, at St. Matthews Catholic Church with the Rev. Duane Wachowiak as celebrant.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Northwest Community Health Agency, Benjamin Blum Hospitality House in Petoskey, or St. Matthews Catholic Church Building Fund.

Allen Cross
Allen E. "Allie" Cross, 73, of Kalkaska, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2006, at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 17, 1933, in Kalkaska, he was the son of the late Elmer and Cora (Morris) Cross.
Allie was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Sharon Peck on Jan. 31, 1970, in Kalkaska.
Allie retired from Kalkaska County as the animal control officer in 1995, after 23 years of service.
He had a love for farming, was very active in the Kalkaska community, and was a friend to many. Allie was a past baseball pitcher, with a 90 mph fastball. He also enjoyed bear hunting, bobcat hunting and loved the outdoors. Allie was a member of the Rapid City Church of Christ. He will be missed by his family and the community.
Surviving Allie is his loved wife, Sharon, of 36 years; daughter, Ann Renee (Jeff) Mitchell of Kalkaska; grandsons, Nicholas and Nolan Mitchell; and brother, Ronald (Barrie) Cross of Kalkaska.
Preceding Allie in death were his sisters, Phyllis Smith and Helen Walter.
Visitation was June 18 at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was on Monday, June 19, at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Burial was at Evergreen cemetery, with VFW Post 8684 and Beebe-Sherwood Post 480 providing military honors.
Memorials may be given in remembrance of Allie Cross to the Kalkaska Youth Baseball 2180 Timber Trail NE, Kalkaska, Mich. 49646 or the Kalkaska Commission on Aging, 330 S. Coral Street, Kalkaska, Mich. 49646.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe-ONeill Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
