Arlene Gagne
Arlene M. Gagne, 78, of East Jordan died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.
No services are scheduled at this time.
She was born on April 5, 1928 in Iron River, the daughter of Albert and Olga (Overby) Johnson. Arlene grew up in Iron River and graduated from Iron River High School. In 1948, she married her husband, Peter A. Gagne. During their 58 years of marriage, they raised two children in Mason. She had worked for a number of years at day care centers in East Lansing and Holt. Her life passions included her children, traveling, country music, playing cards, crossword puzzles and playing slot machines.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Peter A. Gagne of East Jordan; two children, Barbara (Bryan) Noirot of Charlevoix and Christopher Gagne of Chicago; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Noirot of Charlevoix; thirteen nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews; as well as the loving staff at Grandvue Medical Care Facility who cared for her like a second family. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Merle Shamion and Phyllis Juneau; and brother, Sonny Johnson.
Memorials may be directed to Grandvue Medical Care Facility. The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
George J. Tomi
George J. Tomi passed away on Feb. 13, 2006, in Elk Rapids.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids. The Rev. Kathy Kircher will officiate. Family will receive guests prior to the service.
Memorials may be given in George's name to a charity of choice.
Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
Mark Elandt
Mark B. Elandt, 37, of Kalkaska passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Nov. 24, 1968, in Gaylord, he was the son of Bernard and Diana (Thompson) Elandt.
Mark graduated from Kalkaska High School in 1987 and attended Northwestern Michigan College for two years. He was an avid snowmobile rider, NASCAR fan and enjoyed the "great outdoors." Mark enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving Mark are his parents, Bernard (Jean) Elandt of Kalkaska and Diana F. (Chris) Simmons of Delcambre, La.; siblings, Stacey (Michael) Wilkinson of Williamsburg and Steven M. (Anissa Bittner) Elandt of Bellaire; step-sisters, Christy (Todd) Rosinski and Kelly Mitchell, all of Traverse City, and Gloria Simmons of Louisana; step-brother, Josh (Keisha) Simmons of Louisiana; and nieces, Ashley Lunsford, Andrea Shull, Erica and Jenna Wilkinson; and nephew Clay Lunsford.
Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Stark of the Kalkaska United Methodist Church officiating.
Additional visitation will be on Wednesday from noon until the time of the service. The burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.

Patricia Clark
Patricia J. Clark, 70, of Kalkaska passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 14, 2006, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
She was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Hancock, daughter of the late Forbes and Frances (Croze) Winn.
Patricia married Floyd E. Clark on Feb. 15, 1958, in Lansing.
Patricia was a veteran, serving our country in the U.S. Army as a sergeant. Floyd and Patricia moved to Kalkaska in 1968 from Lansing. She was a member of the American Legion Post No. 480 in Kalkaska. She was also a past Cub Scout Leader and served on the Election Board for many years in Lansing. She was an avid cook and was known for her delicious pastries, baked goods and canned jellies.
She will be missed deeply by her family.
Surviving Patricia is her husband, Floyd of 48 years; children, Steven (Cathy) Clark of Bozeman, Mont., Jeffrey (Lori) Clark of Lansing, Mark (Kathy) Clark of Olivet, and Colleen Clark of Kalkaska; eight wonderful grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sister Mary Knight.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Suzanne Beaudrie.
A memorial mass celebrating Patricia's life will be held on June 16 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 3815 S. Cedar St., Lansing. Father Mike O'Brian will be officiating.
Memorials may be given in remembrance of Patricia Clark to the American Legion Post 480, 408 Hyde St., Kalkaska, Mich. 49646, or the Olivet Band Boosters, 3981 Hydon, Olivet, Mich. 49076.

William Pflum
William "Bill" A. Pflum, 88 of Kalkaska passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center's LTC.
Born on July 20, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was son of the late Andrew and Carrie (Zapf) Pflum.
Bill married Georgetta Wagonschutz on Dec. 28, 1940, in Mancelona. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. before his military service.
Bill joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was an honorable veteran. He worked at the Kalkaska County Road Commission and retired from there. Bill was a former road commissioner for Kalkaska County.
Bill was a member of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, the VFW Post No. 8684 in Kalkaska and a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus.
Bill was a former pilot, a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan and enjoyed watching all kinds of sports. He loved his family immensely and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving Bill is his daughters, Bonnie (Art) Grisham of Tucson, Ariz., Barbara (Chuck) Weinrick of Marquette, Judy (Dan) Prokup of Kalkaska, Sandra (Hoss) Hills of Farwell and Sue (John) Tanner of Kalkaska; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Frank (Rose) Pflum of Kalkaska, Mary (Herman) Koldstedt of Harrison, Ohio, and Betty (Charles) Elberts of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Georgetta; and his grandson, Kevin John Tanner.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25, rom 6 to 9:00 p.m., with an 8 p.m. scripture service followed by the Knights of Columbus Rosary at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary of the Woods, with the Rev. James Barrand officiating. Burial will be at Excelsior Township cemetery.
Memorials may be made in behalf of Bill Pflum to Kalkaska County Commission on Aging, 330 S. Coral St., Kalkaska, Mich. 49646.

Luewellon Holloway
Luewellon Holloway passed away peacefully Nov. 14, 2005, at the age of 88.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. at Coldsprings Township cemetery in Kalkaska County.
Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
Stella Clute
Stella B. (Shiotelis) Clute, 92 of Boyne City died Jan. 27, 2006, at the Grandvue Medical Facility in East Jordan.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City, with the Pastor Bob Faulman officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. There will be a luncheon following the service.
Inurnment will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday May18, at the Maple Lawn cemetery in Boyne City.
Stella was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Antrim County, the daughter of Arthur and Bertha M. (Demott) Cook. She was one of 10 children.
As a child, she and her siblings picked raspberries on the family farm, which her parents sold.
Stella graduated from Boyne City High School and moved to Detroit with her sister, Laura, to look for work. She was hired as a waitress by George Shiotelis Sr., who owned a restaurant in Dearborn.
Later, they married and eventually George sold his business and the couple moved to Boyne City. They had a son, George Jr., and a daughter, Nancy.
Stella was active in the Rebecca organization and the Evangeline Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church
Her husband, George Shiotelis Sr., passed away March 17, 1962.
On Nov. 4,1967, she married Victor Clute, who passed away Aug. 1, 1972, following an automobile accident.
She is survived by two children, George (Judy) Shiotelis Jr. of Boyne City and Nancy (Shiotelis) Whitaker of Lakeland, Fla.; five grandchildren, George, David, Kevin, Mark, and Paula; and eight great-grandchildren.
Stella's family would like to thank the staff at Grandvue for their wonderful care and love she received during her stay; to Stackus Funeral home for all their help; and to Pastor Faulman, who gave Mother communion every month at Grandvue. He made her continue to feel that she was a member of the church and that was important to her.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City.
Margaret Hammerstein
Margaret Hammerstein, 90, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006, at the Boulevard Hills Nursing Home. She was the loving mother to Richard (Lynda) of Clarkston, Mich., Bob (Debbie) of Clarksville, Tenn., and Thomas (Mary Jo) of Pinckney, Mich. She was the dear grandmother of Marc, Jennipher, Jeff, Jodi, Jackie and her step-granddaughter Sarrah and the great-grandmother to Gabriel and Owen. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Margaret. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006, 1 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor, Mich., with visitation at 11 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alano Club of Ann Arbor.
Marynell Williams
Marynell Anderson Williams, passed away suddenly on May 16, 2006. She was born in Peoria, Ill., May 15, 1932.
She was preceded in death by parents, Isabelle and Edwin J. Anderson (formerly of The Detroit Lions) and sister Suzanne A. Stenglein.
Raised in Bloomfield Hills, she attended Kingswood School Cranbrook and Finch College in New York City. She was a former member of Tau Beta Association, Junior League of Birmingham, Mich., Women's National Farm and GardenBloomfield Hills Branch, Oakland Hills Country Club and Christ Church Cranbrook.
While in school, she enjoyed acting and participating in plays, especially musicals. Majoring in opera, she played the part of Prince Orlofsky in "Die Fledermaus" in New York City. The author of "From Merny's Kitchen," her passion was cooking, cookbooks and family.
She is survived by her husband, Richard G. Williams, daughters, Isabelle (Steven) W. Clark, Martha (Ryan) W. Ross and one son, Edgar (Tracey) A. Williams II, and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Christ Church Cranbrook, Bloomfield Hills on Friday, May 19, 2006.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Children's Hospital of Michigan or Christ Church Cranbrook Altar Guild. Arrangements were by Wm. R. Hamilton Co.
Ina Vallance
Ina V. Vallance, 72, died Saturday, June 3, 2006, at her home in East Jordan.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at 11 a.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Pastor Mark Belanger of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Tabernacle in Central Lake will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Hill cemetery, East Jordan.
She was born on December 24, 1933, in Calvin Township, Nipissing District, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Dunn) McLaughlin. On Oct. 30, 1954, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, she married David G. Vallance. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1998.
Ina worked 38 years for Dura in East Jordan. She retired in 2001. She enjoyed knitting. She loved spending time with her great grandchildren.
She is survived by four children, Cheryl (Don) Clark of Central Lake, Brenda (Eric) Smith of Bellaire, Pamela (Richard) Stuart of Layton, Utah and David Vallance of Kincheloe; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Laura McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, Elaine (Ken) Brough of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada and Nancy Hutchinson of Woodstock, Ontario, Canada; two brothers, Clayton (Barbara) McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada and Vern (Joanne) McLaughlin of Niagara Falls, Ontario; one brother-in-law, Allan Dobratz of Daine, Ontario, Canada; one sister-in-law, Linda McLaughlin of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Norma Dobratz and one brother Wilbert McLaughlin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Tuesday, June 6, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of Little Traverse Bay.
