Charlotte G. Kinney

Charlotte G. Kinney, 83, of Rapid City, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born in Racine, Wis., April 21, 1919, the daughter of George and Ruth (Dummer) Homan. On May 20, 1944, she married Alton C. Kinney in Flint.
A homemaker, Charlotte was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids. She enjoyed painting, quilting, decoupage and crafts. She loved to cook and bake. She especially loved her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Alton C. Kinney of Rapid City; daughters Kathleen MacMillan of Davison, Christine Pillman of Chico, Calif., Mary (Chuck) Erickson of South Boardman, and Amy (Roger) Bembeneck of Copemish; sons Alan (Diane) Kinney of Rapid City, Mark (Patricia) Kinney of Cordoba, Argentina, and Jeff (Donna) Kinney of Eastport; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister Mildred Miller.
Rosary was led by family and friends Monday evening, at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Mass for the Order of Christian Funerals was celebrated Oct. 8, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski as celebrant. Interment was in Sacred Heart cemetery, Kewadin.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.

Eunice E. Suboski

Eunice E. Suboski, 85, of Rapid City, passed away Sept. 30, 2002, at her home. She was born Nov. 26, 1916 in Gaylord, the daughter of William and Ida (Johnson) Wheeler.
Eunice married Victor V. Suboski. She retired from the State of Michigan in 1972 after 16 years of service. Eunice moved from Newberry in the Upper Peninsula in 1954 to Kalamazoo, and then spent 18 years in Carlsbad, N.M. She then moved to the Kalkaska area in 1990. Eunice enjoyed her flower garden, quilting and her grandchildren.
Eunice is survived by her children Larry Suboski of Mason, Milton (Winnie) Suboski of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, Thomas (Mary Ann) Suboski of Fosteria, Patrick (Barbara) Suboski of Rapid City, and Viki Joan (Clifford) Pedroncelli of Corraics, New Mexico; daughter-in-law Dortha Suboski of West Unity, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, and son, William Suboski.
The funeral service was conducted Oct. 4 at Wolfe Funeral Home with The Rev. Steve Shafer of the United Church of God officiating. Interment was at Clearwater Township cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.

Denise Marie Wells

Denise Marie Wells of Vermontville, Mich. went home to the arms of her loving Lord and Savior Jesus on Monday, Sept. 23, 2002. Funeral Services were held Friday, Sept. 27, at Pray Funeral Home. The Rev. Glenn Litchfield and the Rev. Don Roscoe officiated.
She was born March 10, 1952, in Detroit.
She moved to the Vermontville area in 1980 and proceeded to make the entire community her friend.
Helping others was her greatest pleasure, including Christmas baskets, Community Food Bank, Vermontville Fire and Ambulance as a First Responder, room mom, 4-H mom, baseball mom, and the list goes on.
She and her husband Nyle were owners of the Boyne Cinema.
She is survived by her best friend and husband Nyle; three children, Annie Wells of Lansing, Ryan (Michelle) Wells of Charlotte, and Dena Burton of Lansing; and the joy of her life, five grandchildren, Ravin, Kali, Brian, Austin and Cameron; her parents, Fred and Maryann Gagne; five sisters; two brothers; in-laws, Carroll and Phyllis Wells; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; 23 nieces and nephews, as well as an innumerable host of friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, David, in 1976.

Larry R. Feeser

Larry Richard Feeser, 64, of Rapid City, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002 at his home following an extended illness.
He was born June 14, 1938, the son of Robert and Mary Ellen Ruggles Feeser of Frederick, Md.
He is the husband of Maureen Hilliard Feeser.
Mr. Feeser earned his bachelor of engineering science at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. He was an engineer with Proctor & Gamble his entire career, working in both Baltimore and Cincinnati, Ohio.
He served on both the Helena Township Planning Commission and the Parks and Recreation Committee in Helena Township.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and parents, are daughter Wendy Feeser Jakszta, granddaughter Lindsay Morgan Jakszta and grandson Ryan Hunter Jakszta, all of Flemington, N.J. and brother Stephen Gregory Feeser of Frederick, Md.
Friends may call Thursday, Oct. 10, from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. at the Skiles Funeral Home, in Taneytown, Md. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery, Frederick.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Alden Depot in Alden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helena Township, c/o the Larry R. Feeser Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 233, Alden, MI 49612.

Charles W. Hallberg

Charles W. Hallberg, 79, of Grand Rapids, passed away Oct. 3, 2002, in Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine in 1997.
Surviving are children Jeffrey (Patricia) Hallberg of Bellaire, and Meredith (Paul) Warnicke of Portage; and grandchildren Whitney and Kristen Hallberg, and Megan and Jennifer Warnicke.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 7, in Metcalf and Jonkhoff Funeral Home Chapel, Grand Rapids, with his pastor, the Rev. John Tobian of Christ Community Church officiating. Interment is in Rest Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Ruth Veach

Ruth Veach, 81, of Hoyt, Kan., died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at the Lexington Park Care Center in Topeka, Kan.
She was born May 4, 1921, at Bellaire, the daughter of Leo and Emma Felgentenger Shumaker.
She was a member of the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Apache Junction, Ariz. and attended the Hoyt United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Chat and Sew Sewing Club, making quilts for nursing homes and needy families, and she did volunteer work for the American Association of Retired Persons, both in Apache Junction.
Mrs. Veach worked for Viking Corporation in Hastings, Mich. until her retirement in 1977. After retirement, she and her husband spent two winters in Corpus Christi, Texas, then moved to Apache Junction, in 1979. She moved to Hoyt in August 2001.
She married James Louis Veach July 3, 1939, in Bellaire. He died in March 1994. She was also preceded in death by granddaughter Julie Patten; brothers Otto Shumaker and Arthur Shumaker; and sister Mildred Tocco.
Survivors include daughter Barbara Ann Harrigan of Hoyt; son James Leo Veach of Lafayette, Tenn.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are Dec. 5 at Hoyt United Methodist Church. Interment will be later in the Epiphany Lutheran Church Memorial Garden in Apache Junction, Ariz. Memorials are suggested to the Hoyt United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hoyt.

Joan Turner (Openo) Millard

Joan Turner (Openo) Millard, 73, of Inman, S.C., died Nov. 25, 2002, at home.
She was born May 17, 1929, in Flint, the daughter of Percy and Ruth (Openo) Turner. She married Robert Millard Sept. 24, 1949. The couple moved to Spartanburg, S.C., from Flint in 1971, working for South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind.
She is survived by husband Robert; children Paul (Donna) Millard, Andy (Sharon) Millard, Jill (Chuck) Abernathy, and Nancy (Bobby) Norton; five grandchildren; brother Ralph "Tank" Turner; nephew Gary Turner; and niece Luanne Most.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Margaret Burghardt

Margaret Burghart, 84, of Alden died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. No services are scheduled at this time. Arrangements were handled by the Penzien Funeral Homes Inc. in Mancelona.

Crystal L. Berlin

Crystal Lynn Berlin of Kalkaska, passed away on Nov. 26, 2002, at her home. She was born Jan. 26,1957, in Vandalia, Ill., the daughter of Dorsey and Erma (Funk) Feller.
Crystal graduated from Vandalia High School in 1975. She was a resident of Kalkaska since moving from Neosho, Mo. in 1981. Crystal was employed by Northland Foods.
Crystal is survived by her children, Cari Jo Berlin of Kalkaska and Wesley Reece Berlin of Lansing; grandson Christopher Michael Boyd of Kalkaska; parents Dorsey and Erma Feller of Vandalia, Ill.; brother Ron Metzger of Ill.; sister Doris Wernsman of Raleigh, N.C.; and her dog Cruz.
Crystal was proceeded in death by her brother Tom Feller.
A memorial service honoring Crystal was held Nov. 30 at Wolfe Funeral Home.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral. Home, Kalkaska.

Robert B. Brannan

Robert Bernard Brannan, 72, of Gainesville, Fla., passed away at home Nov. 30, 2002, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Shirley; their children Daniel of Traverse City, Bethany (Dennis) McLimans of Sumter, S.C., David (Carol) of Grayling, Darrell (Suzanne) of Micanopy, Fla., and Susan Granade of Gainesville, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Connie) of Hemet, Calif. and sisters, Noma (Cid) Abraham of Burton, and Shirley Smith of Spencer, Ind.
Mr. Brannan was a long time member of the First Assembly of God Church of Gainesville, Fla., and Rapid City. He spent many hours working with the Royal Rangers programs at the churches and as a member of the church boards. He also was a long time board member of the Women's Resource Center of Gainesville, until his health would no longer allow him to continue his service.
He retired from Bear Archery after 31 years service. His hobbies included woodworking, candy making and gardening. His greatest interest was a close and loving relationship with his family.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 5 at Wolfe Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Lodi cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrances be directed to the Royal Rangers program, First Assembly of God Church, 2925 Northwest 39th Ave., Gainesville FL 32605, Attn: Royal Rangers or the Women's Resource Center, P.O. Box 357625, Gainesville FL 32635.
Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home of Kalkaska.
