Mary S. Denski
Age 88, of Adrian, MI, formerly of Cleveland, OH, passed away, April 21, 2008, at Lynwood Manor. She was born August 10, 1919, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Joseph & Zofia (Zgnienwek) Drozdz. On June 2, 1945, she married, Edward Denski, he preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Ken (Rosmarie) Denski of California and Tina (Dwight) Lutsko of Adrian, MI, grandchildren; Emily Lutsko of Adrian and David (Colleen) Lutsko of Pensylvania, and her sister; Helen Jarzembak of Ohio along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, her parents, and one sister, Katherine Foley.
Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 25, 2008, at the Shrine of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church 3649 East 65th Street, Cleveland, OH. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, MI, and also on Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Memorial Contributions can be made to Hospice of Lenawee.

Van B. Maroney, Jr.
Age 54, of Britton, passed away April 26, 2008 at home with his family by his side. He was born June 15, 1953 in Cedartown, GA, the son of Van B. and Myrtle Maroney.
On July 24, 1989 he married Sheryl Gorham who survives. Van was retired from General Motors Powertrain, Ypsilanti, working as a millwright for over 30 years. Van spent his free time at home grilling and sharing his crab legs with favorite cat, Tattie. He enjoyed trips to Cancun with his wife. He also enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in Northern Michigan with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Sheryl, Van is survived by two daughters, Lisa Gunnels of Naples, FL; and Tressa Chastain of Salem, IN; two sons, Van B. (Jamie) Maroney III; Will (Colleen) Maroney of Belleville, MI; six grandchildren; and two sisters, Ellen Kerek, and Susan Avey both of Whitmore Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. May 1, 2008 at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Rev. Lloyd Jewett officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeway cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday at the at J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Clara M. Mondello
Age 89, of Warren, MI, passed away, April 28, 2008 at Oakland-St. John Hospital, Madison Heights, MI.
She was born September 5, 1918, in Monroe, MI, the daughter of Alfred & Rose Sconocchia.
Cremation will take place.
Burial of cremains will be in St. Joseph cemetery, Monroe, MI, at a later date.
Christopher Gallardo
Age 47, of Adrian, passed away, April 30, 2008. He was born August 31, 1960, the son of Gilbert & Helen (Rodriguez) Gallardo, Sr, in Adrian, MI. He graduated from Adrian High School & Washtenaw Community College with a degree in engineering. He worked for Tecumseh Products Company. Chris enjoyed playing softball and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a first degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.
He is survived by his father, Gilbert Gallardo, Sr., of Adrian, his children; Mario (Ashley) Mirelez of South Carolina, Amber Retan and Marisa Gallardo both of Adrian, grandchildren; Sammy and Braylon Hernandez, Manolo Velazquez and Adriana Mirelez, his sisters; Mary (Dave) Sanchez of Toledo, OH, Virgina (Rudy) Mirelez of Blissfield, Cathy (Danny) Alcorta, Rita (John) Ybarra, Liz (David) Soto, Monica (Gerald) Cosme` all of Adrian, and Connie (Don) Hubbard of Silver Springs, MD, his brothers; Jesse Gallardo of Las Vegas, NV and Gilbert (Patti) Gallardo, Jr. of Adrian,
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Gallardo on January 31, 2006, a niece, Veronica Flores, and brother in law, Rico Chapa.
Funeral Mass will held 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Adrian, with Rev. Fr. Bob Schramm as Presider. Interment will follow in St. Mary's cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 to 8:00 PM with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.
Kenneth Arthur Ruth
Age 63, of Blissfield passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at his home. He was born March 28, 1945, in Hudson, to Arthur and Esther F. (Elwood) Ruth-Sterling). He graduated from Hudson High School with the class of 1963. He had worked for Big “A” Auto parts, A&L Parts, retiring from Tecumseh Products in August 2007. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard.
Ken enjoyed family, friends, camping, golf, fishing and auctions. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blissfield.
In addition to his wife, Sandra, he is survived by two daughters, Richelle Ruth of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kendra Gannon and friend, Shawn Denham, of Wilmore, Ky.; grandchildren, Hunter, Samantha and Mallory Gannon of Kentucky; brother, Thomas E. (Lee) of Fountain, Mich.; sisters, Rosemary (Stanley) Best of Umatilla, Fla., and Karen Keesling of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Johnie Bangerter of Portage, Mich.; and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert, and his in-laws, Raymond and Mary Clark.
A memorial service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 306 E. Jefferson St., Blissfield. Visitation will precede the service from 2 p.m. until the service. Pastor Carey Mack will officiate. Burial of cremains will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Blissfield Fire Department or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Norman G. Peters
Norman G. Peters, 76, of Union City, passed away May 1, 2008, at Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI. He was born June 13, 1931, in Benton Harbor, MI, the son of Earl & Jenny (Knapp) Peters.
Cremation will take place. Burial of cremains will be in Ft. Custer National cemetery, Augusta, MI.
Emma Kabarowski
Age 82, of Brooklyn, passed away May 3, 2008. Emma is survived by her children, Bill (Sandy) Marquart of Brooklyn and Denise (Richard) Imperato of Northville, MI; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and brother Charles Daroci of New Boston, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 siblings; and daughter, Sharon Deneau.
Funeral services will be 5:00 P. M. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of service at 5:00 P. M. at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
Leona Anna Mark
Age 90, of Onsted, passed away May 4, 2008. Leona was born October 4, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Herman and Emma (Ellerholz) Priebe. On March 13, 1937 she married Allan Mark in Detroit. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2005.
She retired from the F. W. Woolworth Company. Leona was a member of the Brooklyn Eagles and Brooklyn Moose Auxiliary. Her enjoyments in life were playing cards, bingo, and most of all, her family.
Leona is survived by her daughter Karen (Gary) Olejniczak of Tipton and son Ray (Jackie) Mark of Harrison;
6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brothers, Arnold (Dottie) and Herman Priebe; sisters, Millie Fairgrieve, Ruth (Carl) Welton and Barbara (Ernie) Arthur, and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Allan she was preceded in death by a grandson Robert Olejniczak; her parents; brothers Harvey, Harold and Roland Priebe and one sister, Florence Atkinson.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A. M. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh with Carl "Uncle Bud" Welton officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin cemetery, Tipton. Visitation will be 2 - 8 P. M. Friday, May 9, 2008 at the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. A Lodge of Sorrow service will be conducted by the Brooklyn Eagles Aries #3689 Friday evening in the funeral home.
Dawn Marie Butler
Age 40, of Adrian, passed away, May 5, 2008. She was born February 29, 1968, in Harrison Twp., MI, the daughter of Wayne & Sylviane (Lorca) Butler. On September 30, 2000, she married Kevin Tate, he survives.
In addition to her husband Kevin, she is survived by, her son, Johnathan Tate of Adrian, her parents, Wayne and Sylviane Butler, two sisters, Sylvia Lorca and Michelle Butler, and two brothers, James Butler and Bill Evans.
She was preceded in death by, one brother, Keith Butler and one sister, Deborah Jean Butler.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, May 8, 2008, in the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Adrian. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery, Adrian. JoAnne M. McGonegal
Of Jackson, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 4, 2008, at the age of 70. Surviving are four children, Daniel (Tracy) Henney, Dallas (Kathryn) Henney, Daryl (Michelle) Henney and Marilyn (Scott Matteson) Henney; 15 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ginny (Al) Emard and Pat Holly; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Edna McGonegal and one brother, Glenn McGonegal. According to JoAnne's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Grand River Community Church, 2443 Olds Road, Leslie, MI, 49251 on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Bruce Crockett officiating. Harold Lee Austin, Jr.
Age 30, of Jackson, passed away May 5, 2008. He was born January 18, 1978, the son of Harold & Theresa Austin, Sr.
Harold was a loving father of three sons and one daughter, he is also survived by his father, Harold, his sister, Starla, two brothers, Clifton and Corey, his grandmother, Wynona, a host of aunts, uncles, cousins. and a special niece, Jaelynn.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2008, at The First Church of Christ-Christian, 2395 W. High Street, Jackson (Intersection of Rowan & W. High St.) (517) 782-1774. Wanda A. Nash
Age 65, of Marshall passed away Thursday, May 8th, 2008 at her home. She was born in Kalamazoo on March 1, 1943 to Frank and Wanda (Ziolkowski) Mendocha.
She graduated from Nazareth Academy High School in Kalamazoo, received her BA in pre-law from Western Michigan University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Cooley Law School in 1986.
She was the first female bailiff to serve in Kalamazoo County, worked for the Kalamazoo Community Action Agency, was a welfare worker for the Department of Social Services, a clerk and Assistant Prosecutor for the Calhoun County Prosecutor=s Office, served 5 years as Legislative Assistant to State Representative Bill Martin, taught some courses at Kellogg Community College, and was in private practice in family and animal law and mediation. She was active in animal welfare groups for 40 years including the Calhoun Area Humane Society, the Michigan Federation of Humane Societies, Committee to Amend the Dog Law, and many other organizations. She started a new organization in Michigan named Attorneys for Animals, and the Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She also served as the first chair and on the national board of the Animals and Society Institute.
She published three books: the Michigan Animal Law Handbook, Animal Rescue Sourcebook, and the Field Guide to Animal Care and Control, and wrote a weekly column for the Marshall Chronicle.
In 2006 the Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan created the Wanda Nash Award in her honor.
This award is given to a student in one of Michigan=s law schools each year for outstanding involvement in animal welfare and protection issues. Wanda was also active in Trinity Episcopal Church for 34 years, and at various times with the Battle Creek Boy Choir, RESOLVE of Calhoun County, Adoption Cradle, Guardian Inc., and the Marshall Exchange Club.
Surviving her are her husband James Nash of Marshall, whom she married in 1965; three children Will ADusty@ Nash of Marshall, Wendy Nash of Marshall, and Aaron Nash of Phoenix Arizona, and 7 grandchildren, her mother Wanda Mendocha of Vicksburg, sisters Carol Pollari of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Sally Mendocha of Vicksburg, and brothers Jack Mendocha of Battle Creek and James Mendocha of Fulton.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Marshall, Saturday May 17th at 11:00AM with Rector Leonard Brinkmoeller officiating.
Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church until 2:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Attorneys for Animals or the Animals and Society Institute through a member of the family. Arrangements by J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh, MI.
MARCIA ANN AMATO
Age 89, of Horton, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home on May 8, 2008, with loved ones by her side. She is survived by one sister, Marilyn Swanson; and two brothers, Nelson (Adeline) Wagg and Clark (Dorothy) Wagg; one daughter, Kathy (Curt) Butler; two grandchildren, Brian (Jolaine) Butler and Jennie (Dan) Gibson; one great-granddaughter, Giana Gibson. Marcia is also survived by two beloved and caring stepdaughters, Connie Kossak and Phyllis Hastings; along with eight stepgrandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, Sam; and one stepdaughter, Eleanor. Marcia enjoyed crocheting; but what she cherished the most was her family and precious relationship with her God, Jehovah. She was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1937.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 329 E. Main St., Addison, MI. In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall.
