Michael Isaac James Williams, age 20 years, of Hudson, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2004 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born September 6, 1983 in Adrian, the son of Silas “Butch” Williams and Vivian (Porter) Aldrich. Michael graduated from Hudson Area High School, Class of 2001. He enjoyed motorcycles, snowmobiles, four-wheel drive trucks, fishing and rifle target shooting. He loved traveling with his grandparents. Michael had a special handshake with his Grandpa VanPelt. He worked for Borck's Body Shop in Clayton and he recently opened his own business, Michael Refurbishing in Hudson. He was a loving, kind young man who is going to be sadly missed by all. Michael is survived by his parents, Butch (Janet) Williams and Vivian Aldrich all of Hudson, sisters, Brenda (Joe) Burlew of Addison, Kathleen (Adam) Hatzer of Mansfield, Ohio, Cassie (Todd) Reasoner, and Artie Pierceall, and a brother, Kyle Aldrich all of Hudson, maternal grandparents, Linda (James) VanPelt of Hudson and Duane Porter of Adrian, maternal great grandmothers, Vivian Handy of Reading and Jessie VanPelt of Toledo, Ohio, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Isaac and Alice Williams, and maternal great grandfathers, Perry Handy and Frank VanPelt. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 19, 2004 at Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Dr. Samuel Wickard officiating. Interment will follow in North Dover cemetery in Clayton. Diana L. Beach

Diana Lynn Beach, age 57 years, of Hudson, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2004 at her home. She was born on October 24, 1946 in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Walter and Isabel (Baker) Kinsman. Diana was a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Adrian and an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her caretaker, Thomas LeRoy Beach, four sons, Wesley Keller, Richard Mills, Jeffrey Mills and Olin Mills II, step daughter, Anne Sales, six grandchildren, Bradley Mills, Jamie Sales, Danny Sales, Amber Sales, Kayla Sales, and Kristen Mills, mother, Isabel Kinsman, brother, Walter Kinsman, Jr., sisters, Debra Rose, Shelly Farless, Cathy McCollough, Theresa Stockford, Sharon Kline, and Vicki Turpening. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tonya Marie Mills in infancy and her father.
Private family services were held Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson. Cremation followed. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service is being planned for a later date in June.

Marvin L. Yager
December 18, 1930 - February 21, 2004
Resided in Onsted, MI
Marvin Lee Yager, age 73 years, of Onsted, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2004 at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. He was born December 18, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of William P. and Rosa (Museberger) Yager. Marvin graduated from Tech High School in 1949, and from Butler University in 1953 as a Registered Pharmacist. He lived in the Onsted area for 21 years. Marvin owned and operated Modern Pharmacy in Indianapolis, Indiana, Yager Pharmacy in Adrian, Michigan, and Sturgis Pharmacy in Sturgis, Michigan. He retired on March 15, 2003.
Marvin married Mary (Hudson) Odom on January 20, 1961 in Indianapolis. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Wanda (Chris) Woody of Clinton, four grandchildren, Matt Woody, Alec Woody, Brittney Reed, and Sam Yager, a sister Bonnie (Bill) Mead of Coatsville, Indiana, two nieces, Lynne Reed of Indianapolis and Debbie (Jim) Anderson of Coatsville, Indiana, and a nephew K.C. (Laura) Yager of Indianapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Melvin Yager, and a sister-in-law Jo Yager.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel located at 4565 E. 10th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46201-2710 on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 with Chaplin Roger Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park in Indianapolis. Local visitation will be held on Monday, February 23, 2004 at Dunn Chapel, Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home in Onsted, Michigan from 5-8 p.m. There will also be a visitation on Tuesday February 24 at Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel from noon until the service time.
Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.

Blanche E. Bruen
March 14, 1909 - February 8, 2006
Resided in Manitou Beach, MI
BLANCHE E. BRUEN, age 96 of Manitou Beach, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at her home.
She was born on March 14, 1909 in Payne, Ohio to Edward and Bertha E. (Carr) Rowe. She married Chester C. Bruen on December 22, 1928 in Jackson, and he preceded her in death on May 18, 1989.
Blanche lived in Lyons, Ohio then in Jackson, MI, before moving to the Manitou Beach area. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1927. She was employed at Sparks Withenton Company in Jackson for 15 years, then she was employed at Addison Products in Addison for 27 years. She was a member of the West Rome Baptist Church, and the Jolly 60's, the Onsted Rebekah Lodge, the U.A.W., the Addison Senior Citizens, she was a volunteer for the Department of Aging, she also was a volunteer for the Devils Lake Drive-In for the past 50 years. Blanche was a cake decorator, she enjoyed crocheting and she made rag rugs.
Surviving are three grandchildren, Debra Bruen, Pamela (Guy) Sparapani of Manitou Beach, Craig (Mary) Bruen of Iron Mountain, seven great-grandchildren, one sister in-law, Gertrude Snow of Jackson, one foster son, Calvin (Carol) Cobb of Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison, with Pastor E. Keith Corbin officiating. Burial will take place in Green's Lakeside cemetery in Manitou Beach. Visitation will be from 6-9 pm on Friday. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice or Lenawee or West Rome Baptist Church.

James G. Fletcher
June 26, 1935 - February 1, 2006
Resided in Cement City, MI
JAMES G. FLETCHER, age 70 of Cement City, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at Heartland Health Care Center in Jackson.
He was born on June 26, 1935 in Jackson, Michigan to Loren H. and Helen (Pelham) Fletcher. He married Shirley A. McEntire on May 21, 1954 in Angola, Indiana, and she survives.
James lived in the Cement City area all his life. He attended Jefferson Schools in Brooklyn. He was employed at Pittsburg Forging in Jackson for 35 years. James served in the United States Army from 1958-1961.
Surviving besides his wife Shirley are four sons, Dale G. Fletcher of Kalamazoo, Robert L. Fletcher, Gary Lynn Fletcher, Steven E. (Monica) Fletcher, one daughter, Sue A. (Gene) Rinehart all of Cement City, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Sally (Bernie) Demsey of Jackson, several nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Larry J. Fletcher.
Cremation will take place, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Addison.

Estill Shearer
November 22, 1923 - January 29, 2006

Estill Shearer, age 82 of Hillsdale, Michigan passed away on January 29, 2006 at Hillsdale Community Health Center. Services will be on Friday, February 3, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Brown-VanHemert Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.

Dennis W. Poling
November 21, 1961 - February 2, 2006
Resided in Hudson, MI
Dennis William Poling, age 44 years of Hudson, went to be with his Maker Thursday, February 2, 2006 after 13 months of fighting brain cancer. He went to Heaven to be reunited with his parents. During his final days his loving family and many friends surrounded him as he awaited his final journey. Dennis was born on November 21, 1961 in Hudson, the son of James and Patricia (Vanderpool) Poling. He was raised by his grandparents, Elwood and Ethel Vanderpool. Dennis was a lifelong Hudson area resident. Dennis graduated from Pittsford High School in 1979 and he attended Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dennis married Barbara E. Nichelson on July 18, 1981 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Adrian. She survives. He was employed at Schütte M.S.A. for 9 years. Dennis was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hudson. He enjoyed working in his garage as a handyman, camping, motorcycling, snowmobiling and restoring old vehicles.
Surviving Dennis is his wife, Barbara, their children, Christopher Poling and Ashley Poling, brother, Roger (Judith) Poling, grandmother, Ethel Vanderpool all of Hudson, father-in-law, Norris Nichelson of Adrian, several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Elwood Vanderpool, Pearly and Lenore Poling, uncle, Joe Vanderpool, niece, Kenzie Mae Butts, and nephew, Danny Nichelson. Funeral services for Dennis will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 6, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church in Hudson with Rev. Mark Johnston officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Corners cemetery in Pittsford. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 4, 2006 and Sunday, February 5, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to: First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, Christopher and Ashley Poling Education Fund or The Brain Research Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Merlen R. SeGraves
September 7, 1930 - February 6, 2006
Resided in Brooklyn, MI
MERLEN RICHARD “BUDD” SeGRAVES, age 75 of Brooklyn, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 6, 2006 at Foote Hospital in Jackson, MI after a long illness.
Budd was born on September 7, 1930 in Hudson, MI to Clarence R. and Margaret M. (Kushmaul) SeGraves. He attended and graduated from Hudson High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1948. He married Shirley Lou (Merrill) SeGraves on October 4, 1952, and she survives. He was a Boy Scout Explorer Leader for many years, and a past member of the Rollin Baptist Church. Budd received a Master Gardener Degree from Michigan State University at the age of 50. He owned/operated Budd's Live Bait on Devil's Lake from 1959-1964, and then he worked as a road builder and pond builder throughout Michigan, and a logger in Montana. He and his family started the first Devil's and Round Lake Tip-Up Festival in 1961. He married Madge “Pat” Crain on November 26, 1971 and she survives, and since has attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Budd was an avid hunter, fisherman, Master Gardener and joke teller and will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides his wife Pat are five children, Gloria (Ric) Knisel of Adrian, Nancy Bradish of Onsted, Peggy (John) Eaton, Tamara (Kevin) Doolittle and son Matthew (Roberta) SeGraves, all of Addison, four step-children, Pam (Roger) Perry of Erie, Mi, Jeanne (Ken) Watts of Jackson, MI, Don Crain of Grand Prairie, TX, Penny (Phil) Lewin of Boyne City, MI, twenty-four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister in-laws Mary SeGraves of Butte, MT, Barbara SeGraves of Shreveport, LA, and Lorraine Russ of Lake, MI, brother in-law, Ted Slane of Grand Rapids, MI.
Budd is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and David SeGraves, and sister Letha Slane.
Cremation will take place. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 10, 2006 at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, 122 N. Steer Street (U.S. 127) Addison, MI 49220, with Dennis Teeter officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday. A funeral dinner will be held afterwards at the Addison Wayne Gray Elementary School cafeteria.

Peggy D. Parkhurst

Age 63, of Onsted, passed away, May 25, 2005, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 29, 1941, in Adrian MI, the daughter of Samuel & Bonnie Snead. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Don, Boyd, Willard, and Cecil, and two sisters, Irene and Bertha.

She is survived by husband Ronald, her children; Kevin Bryant and Lloyd Bryant both of Onsted, Bonnie (Charles) Yeider of Jackson, her grandchildren; Kevin, Miranda, Breanna, Terry and Brittany, three great grandchildren, her brothers; Dewayne Snead, Lloyd Snead, Richard (Fay) Snead, and Doug (Vicki) Snead. Also surviving Peggy are several close friends in the Upper Peninsula.

A Memorial Gathering will held 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 5, 2005 at the Parkhurst Family's home on Brooks Hwy in Onsted. Following the Memorial Service a luncheon will be served. Arrangements by PURSE FUNERAL HOME, Adrian.

Walter Lane

Age 78, of Adrian, passed away May 23, 2005, at the home of his nephew and his wife, Lester and Beth Lane in Onsted. He was born July 15, 1926 the son of Melvin & Bertha (Baughey) Lane in Adrian, MI. On March 10, 1951, he married Wanda L. Longstreet in Blissfield, MI. She preceded him in death on January 13, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Floyd, Cliff, William, Leslie, Cloe, Claude and Ken.

Walter worked at many places including A & L Auto Parts and was a crossing guard at Garfield Elementary School for nine years.

Walter is survived by many nieces and nephews and his favorite dog "Rags" as well as many friends.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 28, 2005, at in the Purse Funeral Home, Adrian, with Rev. Larry Betz officiating. Interment will follow in Fairfield cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, and on Saturday prior to the service in the Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

William E. Sizemore

William “Billy” Elwood Sizemore, 39, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Tecumseh, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 23, 2005, at Glendale Memorial Hospital in Glendale, CA. He was born June 10, 1965 in Toledo, OH, the son of Elwood & Sandra S. (Frazier) Sizemore. He attended Tecumseh High School and then he traveled many places throughout the country. He started his own business training guard dogs in California and then moved to Ft. Lauderdale where he enjoyed landscaping.

Surviving Billy are, his mother; Sandra of Adrian, two sisters; Teresa Brown of Denton, TX and Kathy (Bill) Garland of Adrian, grandmother; Geneva Conley of Tecumseh, nieces; Jamie, Autumn and Alyssa, nephews; Justin, Jordan, Tylor, Austin, Brenden, and his puppy dog Rusty.

He was preceded in death by his dad; Elwood Sizemore, his natural father; Bill Reffitt, paternal grandparents; Floyd & Hessie Sizemore and Dee Dee and Pearl Reffitt.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday June 5, 2005 at Purse Funeral Home in Adrian. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service.

Robert E. Moore

Age, 88, of Adrian, passed away June 2, 2005, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility. He was born June 2, 1917, in Wheatland Twp., MI, the son of Vern & Selina (Bump) Moore. On July 22, 1967, he married Geraldine Munsell, she survives.

In addition to his wife Geraldine, he is survived by three daughters; Ruth O'Leary of Sand Creek, Violet (Larry) Waltz of North Adams, and Beverly Boss of Fairfield, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a son, David, a granddaughter, Brenda Jo Kuhn, and a great grandson, Cody.

At Robert's request, cremation will take place and no services will be held. Arrangements by Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

La Joyce Bilbo Harper Glascock

Departed this earthly world the first of June, 2005. She was born 21 December 1927 to James Oliver and Hazel Ruth Breland Bilbo in Rock Hill, Forrest County, Mississippi and spent her youth in the piney woods and on the Gulf Coast. She came to Tecumseh in 1948 to marry Harold Milburn Harper of Tecumseh with whom she had two children, Sherry (Rich) Harper Hamblen of Nashville, TN and Gary (Marilyn) Harper of Adrian.

La Joyce lived in Herrick Park since 1950 and was always happy taking care of her home and garden, delighting in many creative endeavors. She loved birds, butterflies and flowers. In 1963 she married Bob Glascock who preceded her in death. La Joyce was a Tecumseh Schools Bus Driver for many years and fondly remembered the many children who rode her bus.

Survivors include her children, Sherry and Gary, their spouses, three grandsons, Matt Harper of Tecumseh, Toby Harper of Ohio State University and Alex Hamblen of the University of Pennsylvania, three sisters, La Ruth (Billy Joe) Davis and Barbara (Tom) Rossetto, both of Mississippi and Patricia (Tom) Hamp of Houghton Lake, Michigan, as well as two brothers, Clifton (Martha) Hagerty and Harve Hagerty, both of Texas, several nieces, nephews, stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh on Friday, June 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and Saturday, June 4, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Graveside services will be held in Brookside cemetery on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Orin Daniels officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Catherine Cobb Domestic Violence Shelter or the American Diabetes Association.

Wavie Reeves

Age 77, of Adrian, passed away, June 2, 2005, at St. Vincent Hospital, Toledo, OH, following an auto accident. He was born on May 12, 1928, in Autauga County, AL, the son of Ersie & Alex Reeves. He married Virginia Collum on November 4, 1947, in Prattville, AL, she survives. He was in the U.S. Army in 1948. Wavie and Virginia had two children; Gloria and C. David Reeves both of Adrian. He is also survived by a daughter Diane Misch of Phoenix, AZ, and one brother Emsley Reeves of Prattville, AL, grandchildren; Ted Crockett, Tammy (Jamie) Sparrow, Jena and Lucas Reeves all of Adrian, Patricia and Billy Kelly both of Arizona, great grandchildren; Noah and Joshua Sparrow both of Adrian.

Wavie moved to Adrian in 1953 and he was employed at Tecumseh Products from then until 1993 when he retired. He was an avid coon hunter and hunted bear and pheasant.

He also enjoyed fishing. He entertained his family playing fiddle in his younger days. He was very active in his grandchildren’s lives and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 6, 2005, in the Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

Interment will follow in Lenawee Hills Memorial Gardens, Tecumseh. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM & 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday in the Purse Funeral Home, Adrian.

William Ray Starling

Age 58, of Tipton, died June 12, 2005. He was born September 6, 1946 in Monroe, MI, the son of Robert and Helen (Adams) Starling. He married Susan M. Van Doren on November 28, 1980. She survives.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Viet Nam era. He was retired from Ford Motor Company, Milan. He was the owner of Starling's Nest Restaurant and Driving Range. He was a longstanding member of Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department and served as Deputy Chief. He was also a part time resident of Aruba.

In addition to his wife, Susan, Bill is survived three daughters, Julie Daly, Kelly (Kevin) Marion, Melanie (Moses) Hensley; son, J.K. (Natasha) Vaillancourt,; three grandchildren, Kiara, Blake, and Makenzie; and loyal companion Maddie; mother Helen; two sisters, Sharon Heft, Nancy (Wayne) Ross; and two brothers; Robert (Katrene), Jack (Debbie).

He was preceded in death by his father.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at Starling's Nest Driving Range, Irish Hills with Fr. Russ Kohler officiaitng. Casual attire, please.

At the families request, no flowers, please.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Retreat or Sand Lake Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements by Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh.

Mary A. Hanna

Age, 86 of Tecumseh, died June 16, 2005, at Herrick Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born September 21, 1918 in Fostoria, OH, the son of E.T. and Cora (Ruth) Drake. She married Jack I. Hanna on August 23, 1942 in Tecumseh. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1990.

She is survived by her son Joe I. Hanna of Tecumseh; daughter, Melissa (Bill) Berry of Tipton; seven grandchildren; 4 3/4 great grandchildren; and brother; Dwight (Lucille) Drake of New York.

In addition to her husband Jack; she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Austin; and two sisters, Ruby and Aula.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. with Gail Blum officiating. Interment will follow in Brookside cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday and from 12 noon until time of services Saturday at Purse Funeral Home, Tecumseh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or a charity of the donor's choice.
